I watched AO first without knowing anything about the original. And all I have to say is; the original is still better.

Yeah definitely. I mean the show wasn't bad but it needed more time to really develop the story and characters.
Not really. It didn’t need 50 episodes. First of all, it’s building off of context from a series that already had 50 episodes. And second, it’d have to go into “filler” territory in order to develop characters and “world building” pass what they already needed.

Actually that’s technically not true. AO takes place in its own universe in 2025. While the original took place in its universe in 12,000. They switch between the dimensions. And time travel is only done when Eureka jumps to the “2025” dimension. The one that AO is primarily in.
I watched it as a sequel and it pissed me off. I'm not going to spoil season 1 but it took the main goal of eureka 7 what they accomplished at the of it and in this they're doing the opposite
I am watching AO right now for the first time. I have seen The original along time ago and I just recently got finished watching it again. I am only a few episodes in and there is one thing that is bothering me. Why is AO the only Male pilot? Because in Eureka Seven there were both male and female Pilots. But for some reason, All of the IFO teams are female children? I googled it but there is nothing online to explain this. In one of the episodes, it says that only children can pilot the IFO but it didn't say only female children can pilot them. I don't really count AO since he is half Coralian. Are these girls like clones of Eureka or something? It doesn't make any sense that in the original it didn't matter what your sex was anyone can pilot an LFO no matter the age. Now it has to be a female child to pilot the IFO!
It seems like you hated the story I hope this one little issue is the only thing that weird about this anime!

@@wakewind4129 I finished the anime a few months ago and I don't remember them talking about why the majority of the pilots are female. Apparently, there are two males. But if it's because of the Coral then there should be a lot more than two males piloting Mechs. It says a lot about the show that after watching the entire series I don't remember a lot of it and I just saw it! But I remember almost everything from the original Eureka 7
Sonny Woods Not really. There’s no hard and fast rule that says “Only females” can be pilots. You just have to be a child that has been breathing trapars since being very young. In AO, most of the pilots just happened to be female.
While not a major character, Rajkumar was still a young male ifo pilot for team Harlequin.
As a fan of the original, I just finished AO and I loved it. It made me laugh and cry.

Surprisingly, I agree with the review! I hated AO when I finished it for the first time, why? I was expecting a story/characters like Eureka Seven who left a huge impact in my childhood, all I got were forgettable characters with a overly complicated storyline. But, when I watched it again, this week after a Eureka Seven marathon, I was able to appreciate much of it. But the sad thing is that AO is a good anime at best, not legendary

If the story was more fleshed out AO would have been more enjoyable but the direction they took was a odd one. Sad to know that the lead writer from the first series left during the AO's production.

The story was “fleshed” out enough already. Heck it’s context is already built off of a previous 50 episode series with it’s own 24-26. That’s basically 75-ish episodes already.
They should do a reboot to the series that takes place on Renton and Eureka's world.
Spoilers Alert (at my last sentence). In general I enjoyed the show, but what I killed it for me was precisely the lack of character development even among very central character. That combined with obvious anime-tropes and other marketing filler, trying to take on too large of a story for the time they had, and the not-so-smooth integration of Renton/the-previous-series'-world compounded the problem. That all said, I did enjoy the series in general, and was nerding-out when Renton arrived.
The Story of Ao is hard to get but if you rewatch the original you´ll get its not only linked. I didnt get what the fu.k happened, till i got what they wanted to tell me.
You deserve more views and subscribers! great reviews and I love how you dont hate on this anime I found it really good because It is in its own another anime !
Man is this review terrible. 2 Minutes in and I already know where this is going.
First mistake is treating Eureka Seven AO as if it is a separate entity from the original series. You can't really treat it as a "separate entity" when it has all these connections. Especially since all those "connections" literally make Eureka Seven AO a full fledged sequel to the original series.
Even though time travel is involved, the events of this series do in fact take place directly after the original E7. Those connections. Eureka and Renton being in the series, AO being their son, and the whole reason he was sent back in time being related to the original story... those aren't some write off ideas. They are the core of the later half of this 24 episode series.
Second mistake. Making a review of this series with out talking about "spoilers". Since those spoiler points are some of the biggest issues with the series. Not to mention the spoilers are all those "connections" you mentioned obviously. You can't review a show, say it's a separate entity, but then always acknowledge that those connections are so important that telling you about them would ruin the series.
That goes to show just how important those "connections" are to the plot line, as well how much the original anime in fact weighs in on this series story. E7 AO isn't a separate entity, the core of it's story is built on the original series and knowledge of it.
If someone hasn't watched the original series everything from episode 12 onward will be way way over there head cause they won't know the significance of many of the characters or references. Hell you call them "blatant throwbacks" but they aren't even throwbacks... they are key elements of this series plots. And you recognize they actually take away from the story of AO. This becomes one of the biggest issues with AO... it's not good enough on it's own merits, so the creators had to prop it up with those connections to the original series and those story points. In the process though they did a disservice to the original series while also causing a bit of a story telling mess to the tale of AO.
Also you can't say that the story was "pretty good" but only until the later half of a series. Especially when that later half is episode 12 onward (sorry but that's half the series). Even if the opening arc is pretty good, introducing characters and telling a somewhat cohesive story, all of that is meaningless if it falls apart half way through. The author of the video even recognizes that characters are developed in a rushed fashion and worse off dropped off at certain points.
Bottom line. Eureka Seven AO can't stand on it's own two legs. It wasn't created to be a stand alone. It was created for fans of the original series, but unfortunately the creators seemed to forget that and tried to create something unique from the original while still trying to cling to it's coat tails. And that is why it falls apart.
So it's confusing for newcomers to the franchise, and an insult to fans of the original. Simple.

The director Tomoki Kyoda had stated that The events of Eureka Seven: AO are now treated as being in an alternate universe from the first show. This is shown in the movie Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution, which is seen by many fans as being the true sequel to the original series.
Even as a stand alone, the characters and their actions frustrated me too often to recommend it as good. Too many convoluted situations, and the ending was lackluster. But I will agree that it had good things going for it, though much of that (music and art) could be found in Eureka 7. I actually rejected the idea that it was a sequel at the time because I didn't want one for Eureka 7, but I couldn't ignore the various references they kept making to it. There were a few other shows that season that I enjoyed more.
I'm halfway through the anime. The drawings, animations, and music is great. But this anime is not as nearly as good as E7 so far. This anime felt more like a side story than a sequel. If this was released as a side story than I'm sure people could brush it off as an okay anime, maybe.
It’s only a sequel by definition, in that it takes place after the og. But it mostly follows its own new characters. This doesn’t make it inferior to the original though.

Man Ao as a character has great potential. They could just start it with "Oh people still doubt humans and coralians can coexist? Look, we have a kid! Unlike the three siblings, we fucked our brains out for this one. We kinda sent him to school somewhere 10000 years in the past and I heard he's graduated and all grown up so we're gonna go and fetch him. Be right back.."

your comment is quit fair to be honest I kind of hated AO the plot was bad and the music was meh..... but i guess if i take a look at it from you point of view it was kind of passible, but to be honest I wouldn't tell people to go waist their time on it

I really loved the original E7 series but this one really not so much. I hate each of the characters, through the series they managed to twist them in really wierd ways. I felt the rushed desitions they took through all the series and the desperate attemps to make it work but they ruined more and more. The soundtrack, the openings, the backgrounds and some character designs were the few things that managed to almost reach the E7 standarts. But that's just my opinion. BTW just for curiosity, do you hate steins;gate, clannad or gintama? (It seems... because of the popularity picture)
People complain because they use the nirvash from the movie instead of the original series. The movie that was made basically just rewrote the story including the story of nirvash, which pissed me off. Other than that the review was nice
I was confused for like 60 percent of the story. Especially that pink hair pilot.
If they had just tried to make another mech show or set it a lot further after the original timeline I could have gotten more into it but I can’t help but compare it because I always think of inconsistency and where did this part of this world go.
I didn't want to watch the show because the drawing threw me off at first glance, but after I watched it, it has taken the spot of my all time favorite anime from code geass. Only anime that I've ever teared up at! It gets you so connected to the story and characters with left me with a void and nostalgic feeling after I finished it. I heard that the sequel AO will just ruin the show for me, so I decided not to watch it. I current have no idea what to watch because I feel like nothing will ever compare to this. If anyone has a suggestion, please tell me! Also I heard rumor that they're making a sequel to AO, is this true?! Thanks for reading and feel free to reply?
Eduardo Jr you're the exact same as meeeeee!!! My favorites are code geass and eureka seven!! I've watch fmab, death note, steins gate (so called masterpieces) but those doesnt have the feeling as the above two, try to watch AO, its quite enjoyable (at least for me) well it doesn't deserve that massive amount of dislikes imo, just think it as an alternative timeline, not a sequel

I thought this show was beautiful to look at. I was too inlove with Eureka Seven to give this a shot, after watching youre review i'll give this another chance.
Renton's and Eureka's voices, heard in unison, at the end of episode 50 as they are at the end of most episodes, should have been exactly that... "the end." 😊 a perfect signing off.
Why did they need to turn their happy ending into a tragedy? A lot of sequels seem to have not figured out a way of continuing the lore and story without undermining their predecessors.
Don't get me started on the movies.
The whole point of the original series is to show that humans and coralians can coexist but in AO it turns out the world denied them of their biological children. Like why? Seriously, why? Who thought it's a good idea?
Having watched AO I can't say I hated it. I save that emotion for the movie. AO was thoroughly disappointing though. It could work as a stand alone anime I suppose though it'd be fairly mediocre and basically have no ending. As a sequel though it was just crap. It has basically nothing to do with the original until right near the end, and then it actually goes so far as to retcon the original story to add conflict that a conflict that made no sense. I wouldn't have bothered watching it to the end if it hadn't been for the tie in to one of my favorite anime ever.

By the way could you watch and Review Code Geass please I want to know your opinions plus I think you'll like It I find it one of the best animes out there theres two seasons Code Geass R1 and Code Geass R2 both 25 episodes long to make up a total of 50 great story in my opinion you should watch!
AO is not a sequel. If it's set in a future in the same universe with a continuation of the plot, it would be a sequel. It is actually a spin-off sequel.

I never watched the original. But I love the eureka seven so. Since I was probably same age as them. I remember vividly eagerly waiting for 8pm to switch to animal channel. Honestly the story of eureka seven so story is really good. I don't understand the hate it garners.

I doubt that you will ever see this, but I had to thank you for this fair review. My favorite anime, even show, is Eureka Seven, and I enjoyed Eureka Seven AO just as much! It broke my heart to see all the hatred for it. AO was not the original show. I would say it is literally it's child. AO was an incredible new installment to the Eureka Seven series, and I will never be ashamed to say that. I am very picky with the anime I watch, and the original and AO are my favorites by far. I, of course, realize that everyone who enjoys AO might not love it as much as I do. I see something that most people will not. I have heard other critics talk about how AO basically ripped out the double seat in the Nirvash, which represented the love of the two pilots being what was necessary to help use the Nirvash, and just throw that away. I completely disagree. I am not going to get all religious, but I am a Christian and this is a beautiful way to show how love means becoming one. The way that AO allows the Nirvash to have one pilot indicated two things, 1. This Nirvash is AO's (Show and character) Nirvash and 2. It expressed the ending of Eureka Seven by showing that Eureka and Renton became one, and the result of that unity was AO. The Nirvash of both times was seen in the show at the exact same time, two seats for pre-unity Eureka and Renton's and AO's one seated Nirvash. I really enjoyed that detail, and I will always enjoy both shows. I am actually rewatching AO as I type this, haha!
Edit: I just wanted to say this before I forget. I am not watching the Hi Evolution shows, I do not always judge a show by its critics, but it seems like a reall mess, and it completely disregards the original series as a whole. So, I will not be watching it, and if I do watch it. I will never see it to have any ties or relations to the original series.
I usually don't complain about anime because i like all of them mostly, but trust me it was great at first but then truth came in and everything started going wrong from there
unlike most people from what I've seen I liked the ending it redeem it somewhat but it didn't do the show any favors my favorite part of it was Renton that's it I would not watch it again for fun only reason I would is to refresh my memory of the parts I liked which were few in far between not to mention the contradictory nature of it compared to the original series.
If you rewatch the series carefully you will realize it is a prequel.

eureka 7 is one of my favorite anime, but kinda disappointed in the ending part, i get the story why and how but but but, still the ending part or the first and the ao ending is ahmmm im so disappointing, i felt its incomplete ahmm cant get over it, wish they create a better ending which shows every character and what happened to them after, like capeta i hate the ending hehehe though its still one of my favorite anime.

I used to be disappointed didn't take after Renton much physically wise. Now i see that Ao and Naru relationship is supposed to mirror Renton and Eurekas relationship just gender swapped.

How eureka and Renton lost a child of the end of the last episode of eureka 7 AO, I really don't like AO but know that last scene from AO made me feel really bad for eureka and Renton making me wish I was there to help, it's really sad but I don't like AO so I'll leave it at that.

It would be everything fine if not the set in a completely new universe and time line :P In E7 we didn't even know to the very end that the action took place on Earth when in AO it's more less just a real earth with real countries. And after watching few first episodes it feels to childish, E7 was much more mature series.

If you have seen the original DON'T WATCH THIS SHOW!!! trust me this review is really lacking on how the show really is because he's afraid to give any negative comments on anything. Reviews like this are called 'Blindly Positive Reviews' beware of them because all shows, characters, and music are perfect to them. Its not a stand alone it's a sequel and it FUCKING SUCKS. Honestly wished i had never seen it because it ruined my look at the series as a whole.

Sequels or prequels should not ruin anything for anyone, since fiction does not exist. Al fictions are lies, and if I am not lied convincingly to, then I am not convinced and that piece of fiction does not exist for me.
If you do not like a sequel or a prequel, you can ignore its canonical existence, because you decide what is canon for you.

Normally I'd argue with you by asking whether or not it even matters that it's fiction which it shouldn't. But actually with this show i honestly pretend doesn't exist to keep my view on the first series in tack since it goes against the original in every type of way anyways.

I remember being so hyped about AO when it came out. But bacame so dissapointed by ep 3.
The first few episodes were good but when the Generation Blue story line kick in, the show became dull and generic.
I thought AO was alright. Not amazing, but alright.
I liked Ao probably better than the original until the stupid ass ending. Making it where nobody remembers the main character is always something that makes the entire story feel pointless for me. If he dies it can have purpose but this is plain dumb. What's the point of the relationships he builds with everyone else if in the end none of them matter in the slightest? Bumps the show way down for me. Terrible way to end
I would recommend to watch the movie of AO they change the ending there.

4 years later, but no he is not being “too generous” because it actually is very good. Definitely would recommend watching this especially after the original because of what it is.

The Aerohead Experience Okay, well then explain _How_ it’s bad. I’ve asked this question so many times to so many people, and every single one of their arguments were flawed or skewed. I have a feeling this will be no different.
My take: The first episode was good, the main character seemed interesting and he had a love interest, but the show lost me after the 3rd episode, by the end all I got was a headache from trying to pay attention. Every single character was lifeless and boring because their stories never really developed well, and there was no love relationship at all throughout the series. Action scenes were forgettable, and the main character isn't really an action bad ass, he's just a pussy that won't fight anyone throughout the whole show, the guy doesn't even want to kill the mass murderer antagonist who wants to be killed, instead the main character just flys around avoiding missiles. All I got out of this was the creators trying to make a smart time travel anime, but none of it was really that smart. This show was a massive waste of time, this was like watching some fan made cannon storyline. I don't consider it apart of the real eureka seven universe because the events in this series would mean eureka seven was a huge waste of time aswell.
It's because they tried to copy a lot of Evangelion... Seriously think about it. A pussy main character who's afraid to fight or kill and two chick side kicks in tight space suits (which look almost identical to Eva's). & The closer you get to the end of the series it just keeps making you feel like WTF? up until the end where you just question life. Don't care at all about Fleur but Fuck Ao fuck Truth and SERIOUSLY FUCK Naru and that stupid pink haired chick you know you are.
@@christianguerrero70 I Just started watching AO for the first time. Why are all the pilots Female except for AO? Is this also a Hareem Anime too? Whenever I watch and Anime and the only one male character that can fight and the only other people who can fight are female that is a red flag that this is a harem anime and I hate those.
In the original Eureka seven, it didn't matter the sex or the age anyone could pilot an LFO. In Ao, I remember someone saying only Children can pilot the IFO's but All of the children except for the main character are female! The main character is half Coralian so to me, he doesn't count. Why are there only female pilots? is this a Hareem?
Sorry to burst your bubble but as much as you don't want to admit it *Eureka Seven AO* is the sequel NOT a stand alone show. AO was a failed attempt for Bones to cash in on Eureka's success and it was HORRIBLE. Most convoluted garbage since Guilty Crown.
Even if we take your approach AO it still a shitty stand alone anime. I mean it rips off Eva, it have conflicting themes and a script that borderline stupid.

I personally felt that this show was a worthless waste of my time. Not only is it a terrible follow up to one of my favorite shows, it's a terrible show by itself. I mean, it's horrible as a sequel because I expect better quality, better characters, and better emotion out of something with the same name as Eureka Seven. But it's also horrible as a show by itself because it rewrites its own Canon, Ao is too much of a pansy to stay awake during battles, Naru was just fucking terrible,and none of the characters were interseting enough, the cast wasn't familial. Had this not had the E7 name on it, I would have dropped it. At least with the E7 name, I made the effort to finish it because of that. It was a mess that Im surprised that people are willing to defend, but to each his own. I'll just stick to Fafner.
I wouldn't say it was horrible, but I will admit it doesn't hold a candle to the original. I was content with it tho at least up until the end. Renton would never even attempt to do what he attempted to do.

The Renton Thurston I know wouldn't have tried to rewrite history so that the Scub Corals never existed. Doing so would effectively kill Eureka. The Renton I know would have done everything in his power to save her. To save Ao. Even going so far as to kill himself in her place, i.e. what Ao basically did. I understand that he's gotten older, but such a dramatic shift in character was unexpected, especially when Eureka is more or less the same as she was in the original. The hell happened?
Jupiter Ivan exactly!! What the hell they made out of Renton?!?! If he had managed to fulfil his plans he'd have lost eureka and ao.. Also I think that Renton should have been way more interested in his son
This no doubt is the worst sequel I have ever seen, as well as one of the very very worst Anime I have seen in general. One of the worst things period. I'd rather watch The Room and Twilight twice.
Hm, I don't like it. Honestly I don't really see a point of watching this. It really doesn't seem worth the time to dig into this gravestone and dig out a corpse just to hope it can be brought back to life. Wish they would have went a couple years after with Renton and Eureka and their future. Am I wrong to think and want this more so than this crap?

I just pretend AO never existed, as if I used my quartz gun on BONES when they decided to create this disaster.
It can be watched as a sub par mecha series. If you compare it to the original it becomes dreadfully terrible. Personally I think the worse thing about it is how much it destroys eureka and Renton's characters growth. They really want us to believe instead of Renton trying to find a way to live with Eureka and still have a kid, he instead fucking time travels by accident, abandons Eureka and starts commiting genocide. Like wtf

I hate Bones and the authors /writers that did the ending the way they did but I understand why they did it but F*** you still we wanted a better ending >_>
Like GOD DAMN IT! Soul Eaters ending was terrible. They referenced the ending in the intro, outros, and all but the ending was not the same compared to many parts when it is compared to the original story source from the manga.

The story just wasn't that good
Eureak Seven AO was a crash grab plain and simple and it sucked, if you see it as a sequel then it is a shit sequel and if you looks at it as a stand alone show it is a mediocre at best!!! The same thing happened to Last Exile: Fam, The Silver Wing.
