    Great review and I'm not just saying that because this is my favorite tv show but the presentation's good, it's easy to watch but not too flashy with gimmicks. This video's not too long either. You go into details as to why the show works without dragging on and on. You got serious potential, keep up the good work

    A couple of things:
    1. I personally wouldn't call Dragon Ball one of the founding pillars of anime. Manga? Yes, absolutely. Anime? Nah. It was a cash grab.
    2. Despite how fantastic it is, I don't really think Japan gives a shit about Bebop, which is a real shame.
    3. The eye thing is kiiiinda a spoiler, but whatever
    But I basically agree with everything else you said. Bebop will always be one of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite show.

      ***** I also don't understand how Cowboy Bebop is influential. It doesn't seem to be.

    • @AnimeEverydayYT
      @AnimeEverydayYT  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sir Christopher McFarlane Bebop is extremely influential, because of Bebop we've had loads of anime brought over to the west for TV & disc releases.

      AnimeEveryday
      Cowboy Bebop is probably the most influential animes to come into the west. For instance Adult Swim was largely established because Cartoon Network wanted to play Cowboy Bebop but couldn't due to its violence and mature themes. Additionally studios that went on to profit from Cowboy Bebop are now legendary names like Bones who've produced the amazing Eureka 7 (My personal favorite of all time), and some of the most beautiful and unique anime out there.

    Only something as good as Cowboy Bebop will have a comment section inundated with edgy weebs calling it overrated.

    Who new that someone can actually hand draw Cowboy Bebop. I mean who knew that someone can make art as good as our present machines that are supposed to be the best art work. I mean really you would probably never think this was made in 1990.

  • @SaintEaon
    @SaintEaon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fun fact, the animation team that did Cowboy Bebop are still the highest quality producers in anime in my opinion. They later created Bones which is responsible for the incredibly gorgeous Eureka 7.

    When I first watched Bebop recently I went into it knowing nothing, and I am still pretty new to anime. I did not expect or understand the episodic nature of it. I was more interested in the back story that was brought to a conclusion in the final episode. I guess that's what makes it great it leaves it open for interpretation. I absolutely LOVED the soundtrack though. One of the best opening and endings in my opinion. I downloaded them both and never get tired of listening to them. Also the characters were memorable, and usually I have a hard time remembering characters in most anime I watch. This anime definitely can be watched over and over from any episode. English dub is on point.

    this show was so good watching anime today just gets me depressed, the amount of good anime like this is too few and far between, moe shit has infested everything. "MOE" existed since the beginning of anime but by the mid 2000 every single anime genre adopted moe tropes and it just fucked everything, stories and characters went downhill because of moe tropes. I almost left anime but then stuff like Red Line brought me back.

    I tried watching Cowboy Bebop earlier this year and stopped after a few episodes. The characters didn't have enough personality for me to accept self contained episodes. I wished there was more story arch.

    I started watching this 2 years after it first came out and now it's like everyone is all of a sudden discovering it. This is literally the sexiest anime I've ever seen for a thousand reasons. Music, storyline, animation etc etc etc. I have the box set and for a while I was looking for it for years until they became more available. I love it so much

    While bebop has some great episodes, at least half don't stand a chance of living up to the shows own reputation. and some episodes go as far as to damage its cool atmosphere. Its not something someone would regard as a masterpiece until they finish it, and look back on all the adventures at hand. When it first aired, everyone was drawn in by its unmatched visuals, and would watch almost regardless of the story at hand. Slowly leading them to one of the strongest conclusions in all of anime history, and from an episodic show no less. Its harder for a new generation to get over the weaker episodes. Something everyone should watch, but some of the episodes definitely drag it down.

    • @cleverboysproductions4506
      @cleverboysproductions4506 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't finished the series yet, but I agree with you that some of the weaker episodes drag this series down. Some of the episodes are incredible but some are just tough to get through.

    Excellent review. I don't think Bebop is overrated, but I have a fairly strong distaste for episodic stories, so it's a shame that I wasn't able to enjoy Bebop to the fullest even though I can certainly acknowledge what makes it so special.

    This is an anime that has to be watched all the way through because of how old it is for people just starting to watch anime to really appreciate it. Also, still amazing. Love the soundtrack. Also, maybe doing a review of Code Geass in the future?

    @plasmatize8494 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only thing I'd really criticize in the show is that some of the episodes were better than others, but all of them were at least pretty good. Plus, each one adds depth and believability to the world and characters, so despite its semi-episodic structure, I don't think a single episode could be considered "unnecessary". I found that the second half of the show stood out more than the first because of this (and maybe because they seemed to save all the most interesting stories until then).

    Really like the review, especially seeing most reviewers on youtube kind of suck. I agree with most of what you said but id have to disagree about watching the dub over the sub. Not to be a sub-nazi but as someone who also enjoys Spike from a psychological point of view they are almost two complete different characters to me in terms of dub vs sub. In English he comes across as more of a corny action hero as opposed to the Japanese version where he is much more laid-back and easy going. The tonality is completely different and changes his character quite a bit. Im being a nitpicking douche though because this is my favorite series of all time but keep up the good vids

    Do you think anything has come close to Bebop in the last 15 years?

    • @watchingvids423
      @watchingvids423 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say. Cowboy Bebop gave a lot for only having 26 episodes, and despite having a simple plot throughout the series, this anime gave a lot to it's viewers in terms of atmosphere, visuals, philosophy, sociology, and symbolism that I don't think any anime series right now could match it if we gave it the same amount.
      I think it's an un-stated agreement that anime hit it's peak in the late 90's to early 2000's, then the writing quality began to dip in the 2010's. Most animations became sloppy and cheap or shiny and cute thanks to Japanese animation companies pandering "moe" or "ecchi" to the masses. It's slowly getting better now, but writing and soundtracks aren't top notch yet.
      Honestly, my taste in anime is very wide, but I've yet to found an anime that has left me with a sense of satisfaction, closure and awe as Cowboy Bebop did.

      Ghost in the shell stand alone complex, black lagoon, samurai champloo, steins gate, just to name my personal preferances. 90s may have been a fertile period, but it is unfair to say there was nothing good since

      Platypus-Books what about death note? That didnt come out in the late 90's and its still regarded as one of the best animes out there. Dont get me wrong its not NEARLY as good as bebop but its still very good nonetheless

    • @watchingvids423
      @watchingvids423 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I did enjoy Death Note, and I acknowledge it as a really good anime, it suffered from writing problems in the second half that made the drama to me a bit forced.
      If that problem was fixed then I would consider changing my opinion, but it's writing problems in that second half continued to bother me since it always closely linked to the drama and action.
      Though, I can't fault Death Note for what it is, and I shouldn't because it's an honest to good anime that isn't perfect. However, it's strengths aren't as top-notch to what I've experienced from Bebop. This is just my opinion though, so if you love Death Note then don't let what I say bring you down.

    I personally prefer Outlaw Star over Bebop because while Bebop has Spike, Ed, better art/animation and a great OST everything else is rather bland and forgettable because some of the episodic episodes were sleep inducing, the story wasn't all the great and I didn't like Jet and Faye that much because I found them to be uninteresting.
    I personally found bebop to be good but Overrated
    .
    .
    Outlaw Star in my opinion has a better written story with all the characters being memorable like Aisha, Gene, Hilda and my personal favourite Jim Hawking and I personally prefer the OST of Outlaw Star over Bebop.
    Outlaw Star is more addicting and fun to watch than Bebop in my opinion.
    Cowboy Bebop 7/10
    Outlaw Star 9/10

  • @TheVoltaire1
    @TheVoltaire1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This show is more style over substance when it comes to story. Soundtrack and art are brilliant of course. But the episodic story didnt cut it for me. At least in Champloo there is a goal - looking for the sunflower samurai. Bepop on the other hand is just going aimlessly. The characters aren't really on a mission. And it seemed silly to me when these so called pros cant get a single bounty job done. I thought these guys were supppsed to be really good at it.
    The last 4 episodes, along with the episode where a guy is trying to pay for his sisters eye surgery are my favorites.
    I'm really not a fan of the opening 2 episodes. Things got interesting when Faye came to them.

    • @SpikeJet2736
      @SpikeJet2736 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      When did they ever claim to be professional bounty hunters? They're good enough to get by but no one ever said they were the Leon The Professional of bounty hunters. The whole show is about characters trying to run away from their problems and no matter what they do they can't escape it, why would you have characters actively trying to go after goals they want nothing to do with?

  • @gilgamesh310
    @gilgamesh310 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    While I think CB is a great show it hardly has a great story. It tells its story better than most anime, in that it frequently shows rather than tells but there isn't really a great story in the show.

    • @SpikeJet2736
      @SpikeJet2736 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      "While I think CB is a great show it hardly has a great story. It tells its story better than most anime"
      Isn't that what matters most? The synopsis is hardly the most important thing

    • @gilgamesh310
      @gilgamesh310 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A synopsis should get things right. The story of a Bebop is not its strong point and it shouldn't be praised as such. Stuff like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Monster and Berserk destroy it in terms of actual story.

    • @SpikeJet2736
      @SpikeJet2736 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a saying I like to go by and that's this: A story is only as good as the person who tells it.
      You can have an interesting idea for a story but unless you tell it right then I don't care about what you're trying to tell me (not to sound like I'm bashing those other shows you mentioned). As long as the story isn't bad but told excellent then that's all I care about

    • @gilgamesh310
      @gilgamesh310 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Story and storytelling are still two separate things though. Sure if a story is told very poorly it may not matter how good it is, but they are two separate things that should be acknowledged. For what it's worth, I think LoGH suffers a little from poor storytelling.

    • @TheVoltaire1
      @TheVoltaire1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. In terms of pure story, Bepop suffers a little. Cool characters and great visuals can only take a show so far.
