You're right. I spent 27 years in prison for felony murder. It was accidental but 100% my fault bcuz I was committing an assault. I didn't understand how killing someone destroys their family. I am so regretful over what I did bcuz if one of my children got killed it would crush the life out of me. There's no way to make it up to the victim's family.

Heck there have been people that killed perpetrators’ family members that had nothing to do with the situation just because that’s how they handled their grief. My dad died last year of a heart attack so no one to really blame but as a daddy's girl who went through that and much more (yay trauma) I would def be this girl, and for some time her words were my thoughts to god. This is why our "Justice " system is a shame. Criminal shoots a man like an animal yet his daughter can even slap him once.
@Carol S Being slapped is just a term. When has the justice system worked? How many criminals go in and come out and commit the crime even worse? How and why do criminals get protected ? If a mass murderer kills innocent children , rapes little boys and girls, tortures someone and if ( only if) he gets death penalty he gets to leave this world in much less pain that a cancer victim or an innocent person that dies in excruciating pain because he doesn't have enough insurance to cover him at hospital. Nothing is going to bring the victim back if the family member "slaps" him or her. But if the "justice" system that you and I pay to defend these inhuman criminals protects him at all costs and does no justice at all.. then that is why criminals continue to do what they do . They laugh at you and me as taxpayers that we are going to feed them,clothe them and at the end of death row they will die a comfortable way ( by sleeping) . Its even illegal in most states to ask a doctor to administer an injection for you to die peacefully. If you have eye for an eye law I can almost assure you crime would be lower. It depends:
If you or I did that, it would definitely not be called self defense.
However
If police do it, it's ruled justified.
Nope. As a proponent of the second amendment, that was pure murder. Any decent self defense coach will tell you, fight to stop the threat, no more, otherwise you can get into all kinds of trouble. If you're still doing damage after the threat is over that stops being self defense and starts being revenge, and that's not kosher by anyone's definition.
If he puts one bullet into the guy, or two, or three, and that's not enough to put him down, and he's still coming, that's one thing. It can happen that way, adrenaline is a hell of a drug. Heck, I know of a few stories of guys hyped on PCPs that took a full mag and kept coming, and if the threat isn't over you're still allowed to do what you have to.
But if he's trying to flee/crawl away and you're unloading your magazine into him, that's clear murder in the second degree, 15 times out of 10. No excuse.

My dad passed away on August 28, 2019. His cousin robbed him and then beat him until he fell and lost consciousness- then his cousin left him laying on the side of the road. Ambulance arrived about 5 minutes too late. He laid there. Alone. For several minutes. (While at his own sisters wedding.) I think of him and pray that he’s in a better place. His cousin claims self defense but witnesses have stated that my father wasn’t fighting back (it’s his sisters wedding, duh) We are still fighting for justice for my dad. I doubt anyone will see this but it just feels good to relate to somebody & to talk about it.

My father was murdered almost 9 years ago and we had to sit in the courtroom with one of the people that murdered him. I was an adult but it was still hard. Our family chose for our mental sanity to not go to every trial and not to listen to all of the details of the murder from the murderer's mouths. We also chose not to see pictures of his body (he was shot and then they burned up his body beyond recognition) Plus murder trials normally take time so even after you bury your loved ones , it still has to be relived. Because of the complexity of our individual case because the killers had murdered multiple people, they told us the trial may take up to as long as 8 years, no lie to officially close the case on all the killers. However it took 3 1/2 years. My heart is with this family and may they find the peace they need to continue to live.

I feel your pain, love. My dad was shot four times. I wish I could face the people who killed him. They took the only person I had left. My brother killed himself, my mom died of alcoholism, and all of my grandparents died. They took all I had and I feel your pain completely. I didn't get justice. They got away with it.
