I hear ya'. Here in Southern Ontario, the amount of sand, grit and salt on the roads, even in a winter with very limited amounts of snow, is pretty depressing. I've learned my lesson on my daily (2021 Accord 2.0T Sport), don't use brush-activated automatic washes. My once stellar blue metallic has certainly been assaulted by the fine scratches. As for my summer toy, a 2023 WRX 6speed Sport-Tec (Limited in the US), she is sleeping quite peacefully and salt free in a garage bay. :)
Oh no! I learned the hard way on my Camry too but I was able to remove most of the swirl marks with some polish. Good thing your Subie won't have to endure that kind of pain :D
Not to mention most automatic car washes will rip the wing off the back. I was told that when I asked for a complementary wash at my dealer's service bay after an oil change, and they declined for that very reason. I only do what you do, hand wash, and yeah, saves paint, etc. Cheaper too. I'm in Pocono mountains northeast Pa, and the road salt is a necessary evil.
I know it's hard to keep the subies clean where you are brother. I'm in Oceanside CA and it's still hard to keep my Bluebaru STI really clean . A great video. Stay safe brother and happy 4th of July.
hey man! have you noticed the soapy water at these washes bleaches the black plastic trim? I swear the black trim got lighter after using one of these washes w/ the soap spray, now I just use water only
I've never really noticed before but a few times a year I apply some gel dressing to the black plastic and it gives it a nice darker look for about a month or two depending on the weather. Sometimes a little spray wax after the wash can also help wake it back up for a little bit to.
Theres no better feeling than to drive a nice fresh clean STi!!!
Couldn't agree more!

Wow I didn’t even think about the possibilities of losing the wing! 😮
