Hey there. Your method to get rid of foul smell is not the way to root out the core issue. Main cause of bad smell is coming from an evaporator. Not from your filter or a fan. The best way is to find water drain hose( when we run an AC you notice water dripping at the bottom of your car) and spray a heater core cleaner into the hose. This will clean and disinfect the evaporator. This will permanently remove foul smell.
Not heatercore but ac evaporator
Thanks!!!!
Yup you can clean that by shooting cleaner/disinfectant up the drain pipe under the car
Well you should make a you tube video showing the correct way to do it
@@towannahenson9157 No shit I’m thinking the same thing lol 😂 damn I need some help pointing that out and how to get it done
Change your cabin filter and then put baking soda in a container with holes in the lid. Hide it under your seat or in a cubby. All odors will be gone in a few days... and it lasts over a year.
I like your way sound about right thanks 🙏🏼
An old wise car salesman told me to push the fresh air vent button, next to the re-circulation button. It will dry out all of the "stuff". Do this every night or when the system smells funky. A shot a some kinda spray before all this when the car fan is on will probably do even more good. I was in disbelief but it works for me.
thank you for the instructions. a regular person who doesnt work on cars doesnt know this. I appreciate this tremendously.
I’m glad to hear! Have fun and be safe
Thank you. You demonstrated so well. On my way to do this.
I have improved the presented methodogy of using this product by adding a long hose and spraying it under pressure directly into a/c coil from both in and out sides. I have swamped the coil in it and kept a/c running for longer time.
This stuff helped to remove a musty smell just for few days. It temporary kills an odor but not that mold as pro foams do.
May work for little issue but not for serious one.
I watched scotty Kilmer on this
and the way he did it definitely worked on my car.. nothing but fresh air . Keep in mind it takes a few days for the LYSOl to go away till your only getting fresh air again.
What did Scotty do?
@@phackqu he sprayed the LYSO from the outside vent below the front windshield while you leave all windows down and the A/C on full max..
My nerves must be bad. When you slapped that Lysol up there I jumped 😂
LOL I thought I was the only one that did that It scared the bejeves out of me!!!
@@TishMclain 😂😂😂
Same here😂😂
Thanks for sharing. I sprayed that product through the front last year and the moldy smell came back this year. I learned to use foam applied through the air conditioning draining hose to target the evaporator and the foam turned into liquid rinsing and cleaning because the liquid drained down dark and the cabin smells really fresh. I used the kool that includes a hose which you can re use because it also fits on a foam can to clean the AC sold at Home D for about 6 dollars. Yes you have to get under the car, but I really like that it rinses the dark mold in the evaporator.
Do you mind sharing which product you used that fit the kool it hose?

Worked for me. Been a week and a half, and saved my date.
Think Sir it was a great video I appreciate your time and your effort I'm going to give it a shot thanks again
Dude you are a genius. Is 2023 with inflation the bottle is worth $ 6.00 and the job $150.00. It worked like magic I've never done this before, so I went to Costco and bought the 4 pack Lysol I did for my car, my wife's SUV and my daughter's car.
For easy access to the blower motor fan like yours , Use a professional hvac (a/c) condenser coil self rinsing foam spray after the lysol shot , Try to find one that comes with a small hose attachment for better coverage spraying , For those of you that can't get to the fan/ evaporator/ heater core easily you can locate your condensation drip line normally on the fire wall under the hood , Turn your a/c on low and look for the wet spot under the car to get an idea of the location, Put your windows down , stick the foam spray hose as far as possible & use the entire can , Now your bacteria/ mold is gone and the evaporator plus Heater core is clean with a more efficient working system for atleast a year, You can find the coil cleaning foam spray in H.D or Lowes or possibly a hardware store . Be safe
i wish i found this video earlier. I just replaced my cabin filter today and i did the spray thing but didn't switch the modes. I have a tesla which is a bit harder to do. I will do it next time when i change the filter again.
Fun deal! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much 🙏 I will do it but I will keep the engine off because I am scared to hurt my fingers and I will put it on after I spray 🙏
Hey man thanks a lot for this great technique, I tried buying chemicals in the past specifically for bad odor and didn't work, even taking the car the dealership and nothing!
This is a economical and effective way to reduce and eliminate bad odors.
Thanks happy holidays.
Thank you Joscelyn!
That begining part was MEEEE ASF EVERYDAY THIS WEEK BRUH
You saved me. Helping a friend with a Mustang that did run in 6 years and stank.. Did this and its amazing. Thanks for posting.
Is it back
At Tesla we use Kool it. Is like 10$ a can and it’s made specifically for HVAC cleaning. It’s also electric car safe.
Interesting
Thank you. Bro. God bless you for sharing.
Thank you!😎
Thank you...I need to do this to our 2016 Ford Fusion SE... both wifey and I be smelling a bad order coming out of the air vents of the car everytime we turn on the A/C or the heater
Did a very nice job... One pro tip.. Use 2 cans. 1st can, full speed ventilation... 2nd can, minimum speed. Cheers!
Thank you for this.👍🏽
Wow that was great thank you
This method will refresh the vents and cabin but so not solve the problem. The AC evaporator and lines must be cleaned out. The correct way is using a proper cleaner with an attached cleaning tube that is inserted through the AC drain line. The cleaner is sprayed upthrough the drain line back to the evaporator. The cleaner will break up and dissolve the moldy deposits and release them through the AC drain once the cleaning tube is removed.
That's a great idea and it works. I found out, through a mechanic because I am not smart enough to figure it out on my own...SMH, to leave the recirculation button off and the fresh air setting on when your car is parked. That let's the condenser dry out after you have been driving it with the a/c on.
Thank you very much. Awesome. A big help.
Useful tips. But beware of fire hazard when dealing with flammable spray nearby electrical blower circuit
is this safe
What can happen ? Everyony spraying dettol and lyson in the vents and even if u spray directly into the evap , its made to be water proof
Realistically, this will only mask the odor. Lysol spray won’t kill any organic mold or mildew. It might kill a little on surface contact but your just feeding the mildew and odor so that after the fragrance wears off, it’s going to stink even worse.
@@amgil475 nothing can happen
@@CZ-57 thanks
Very helpful! Thank You!
Thanks for this awesome tip.
Two weeks ago I sprayed the output vents under the hood. It lasted maybe a few days…I just tried it your way and I hope it works because getting access to the cabin air filter vent was not easy on my Cadillac haha 🥴
Sorry to hear that. But the good news is you now know how to replace your own air filter in your car when it’s time for changing. Yeah it should work, I did mine once and the stench went away. Best of luck 🤙
@@NuMBERNYC Hi , do you think it is the same as a Honda City 2020/Ballade 2020 , to be able to drop the cubby / glove box and then removing the filter cover and filter..... spraying in there? i am not sure if there is a fan there
@@NuMBERNYC i told my mechanic to change my cabin filter and he couldn't because he told me he needs tools that only ram has. And I think he also said they are expensive. He told me that im going to have to buy it. My truck is a 2009 ram and the cabin has prob never been changed because of that. The only reason my truck smells the way it does is because of the dirty carpet and seats not because of the vents which is crazy cuz the filter has never been changed.
@@juaquiqui-kun4333 I'm a mechanic and you do not need a "special tool" to change the cabin filter on a Ram. Get another mechanic or google it and do it yourself. It's not hard
Lol right most are right behind your glove box’ press in both sides of glove box and it falls down’ pull it out and then pull out old filter’
Not every car is that easy but 90% are
There are multiple reasons of causing bad smells in your car. It could be AC on or off. Intake or circulation. There are 4 or more possible air route that could have that smell. Just doing the cabin filter might not solve your problem.
Hi very informative video. I have a 2016 Corolla with strong fuel smell coming from AC vents first 1-2 min after being started in morning, then clear normal air and no engine codes. Any idea of what could be my issue?
Yeah, been doing that inside my car and just a spray glance at cabin filter but now will do half empty or more right inside that cabin filter holder. 😊 hey, i also subcribed to uf channel.
thank you for the great tip.
Thanks
You have to remember to first change the cabin air filter after several months or yearly, then run the A/C on full, spray the Lysol into the vents, run it on RECYCLE Air mode for several minutes, and then allow the cold recycled air to work itself into the A/C unit itself. Again this is a temporary fix, and unable to get cigar or cigarette smell out of any car.
Get the family dollar smoke spray remover for the household, I sprayed it inside on my hubby's hummer and it worked as for the seats I would not know, hubby's hummer has leather seats not fabric ones
Agreed there is a machine you can rent or buy you basically run the machine through the vents and that does remove everything I've seen a lot of detailers using it
@@ThaRealAbMajor thank you, that's the machine I was referring to
Iyk, this advice came from Scotty Kilmer
@@ThaRealAbMajor but does it go through the hvac system vents? because when you use lysol or spray they tell you to have the air come from outside, not recirculate
Okay, so what about the defrost cycle for the windshield and back window? Would you recommend also doing a spray for those settings separately cause that's another separate air flow. And thank you for sharing this very informative tutorial as well.
Does your car have actual Vents and that the back window? The rear defrost on every car I have owned only had the electric heating element embedded in the glass for the rear defrost.
Is it OK to spray liquid into an electrical fan though?
Great tip thanks
excellent video
Good tips!!! Thanks man!! Lysol! He stoled my idea 💡! I don't mind bro!! God bless!!
The best way still is use a flush and reconditioning A/C unit cleaner, but this requires one to lift up the car to locate the drainage plug for A/C water condensation. However, some of these A/C cleaners are also quite expensive on the market.
If your in the millionaires lifestyle bracket , changing a car every three years for new one is the best but this gets quite expensive.
🤣😂🤣😂
He's trying to save us money and here u come about changing car every 3 yrs😒😒
I have in-laws that are health food crazy. Their diet of pinto beans, black beans , red beans has caused them to lose tons of weight but now the whole family has a problem, an intestinal inflammatory sickness called flatulence or farting . They’ve had to invest in air cleaner products for their house, cabin, and cars. I know I clean their cars by my cleaning services business. But on a lighter side, I found that the best way to get rid of mostly bad smells for cars is to leave then in the sun with the doors wide open for a couple of hours, The Suns UV lighting kills most viruses and opening the doors wide open gets rid of the smell naturally. No really it works, and it’s free.💩
Thanks for sharing I'll give it a try to get a nice clean smell. By the way it looks like you have an iPad on your dash is that an iPad holder for vehicles? Where to find in what brand? 🙂 thanks
Thank you! I made fabricated a mount to hold my ipad. I made a video on how to do it, its somewhere in my channel.
Good stuff. Thanks!
Just one more comment if it's the summer time it could be mildew and mold in the condensate pan of the air conditioning evaporator coil. Or it's simply the upholstery in carpet stinks. Try ozone
Wow, thank you for this video!
Glad it was helpful!
I am 67 years old and have had many cars. Never have I experienced a rotten smell in any of my cars. I change the filters during the oil change if it is time. I live in California so maybe that is why I don't get a moldy smell.
LYSOL IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST THING YOU COULD LET YOUR CHILDREN BREATHE IN!!!! My daughter had Asthma growing up and many doctors told me never to use it. I would use a can of air for computers instead.
Hi Psychictammy, You are meant to use the Lysol to kill the bacteria and stentch that are lingering inside the car vents. After that, you need to let it all escape by opening the airways via window/vents
Thanks 🎉
BANG>>>!!! Just unloaded one full can of LYSOL into cabin filter area behind glove box, and the exterior intakes under the hood.. Follow instructions with whatever vehicle you own. This works well for killing bacteria, and irritating humans.. Much appreciated.. we may need to air out vehicle overnight...
There are topical solutions to lysol like vinger, breathing harsh chemicals is just as bad as the mold
If your dash plastic okay. But if you have leather never use lysol into you vent, it wii crack the material. Personal experience
What would you recommend to use instead of Lysol? Thank you in advance.
The A/C evaporator is a small heat exchanger located under the cabin filter and is no larger than the surface area of the cabin filter. So the only thing that needs to be cleaned is the evaporator. There is no need to switch the vents from top to middle to bottom as it does absolutely nothing. There is nothing in the ducting that can trap moisture nor odor as it is nothing more than an open pipe!!!
The Evap is what’s dirty n grimy and causing the odor. Not the vents. Or tubing. At this point your just covering the smell. Need to do a evap coil cleaner or replace the evap. Depending on how bad it is
@@pulpo.r7790 Show us how?
thanks!
Thanks for making the video. Also is that an iPad mounted to the dash? Is it permanently connected to power and the stereo? Please share the setup.
Thanks. The iPad is connected via Bluetooth. I made two videos of two separate iPad installation somewhere in my channel. Thanks for watching

I did it a few times and it helps, but a foam condenser cleaner does a more thorough job for anyone who wants to go to the next level. Good tips here though!
Need to clean the evaporator behind the blower fan.
Thank you for this video
I’m glad it was useful :)
😆my guy put the cheat code in, lady's love Lysol.
wondering if i could use this product
to clean a window ac unit
That I'm not sure of, sorry.
Thank you!
I believe in you.....that works
Thanks Sir
Thanks for this tip! On average, how often do you do this?
I only had to do it once. =)
But I change the fliters of the cabin and engine every once a year
My husband does it from the inside. He leaves engine running. Then he just sprays the vents 😉
Gotta clean the drain out too.
Although this will kill what's causing the smell, it wont clean the root cause. The smell will return, given time. Take down the blower fan, get a can of Klima cleaner and spray into the evaporator from the opening and the foam will remove trapped dirt and debris.
What’s the blower fan?
@@ministercarlos814 it pushes air through your evaporator coils. Usually located right behind the glove compartment. You want to spray down the coils since they are the culprit with trapped debris.
Best way to clean it is during winter time and it’s raining heavily turned on your ac and it will be cleaned
Use 100% vinegar and filtered water as a spray mixture. Not Lysol, dangerous.
Like does spraying Lysol directly into your fan, does that limit the life of the fan motor, just asking ,cause Lysol is not made for car hvac system!
So you use one bottle for each vent option
Correct
my car is old, you have to go through the cowel on the outside of the car, no air filter..
Hey do you have to also set it to heater mode?
yeh good question, i am not sure if u should use heater mode. I heard some people toggle, they go half blower and compressor on cold and then hot. So like 10/10 minutes
I just replaced the filter when i had all of them changed.
On your video, you pressed AC and the outside air circulate button. I'm confused. The comments say hit recirculate the air.
I don't recommend spraying an acidic vaporized liquid such as Lysol directly into electrical parts such as a fan motor, fan motor resistor and evaporator. (all are in close proximity to one another), electrical parts don't react well to liquids. i guess if you want to shell out $2000 plus for a new evaporator and fan motor and resistor this is the way to go. there are other safer alternatives for your cars a/c system such as coil cleaner for the evaporator, or just go see a pro that will have to fix it at his cost if he jacks it up.
Two years later and my motor, fan, evaporator, engine, etc. are running great!
Hey there....this method doesn't hit the AC evaporator core right? But if you do it from the exterior/engine, it goes through the evaporator core and then passes through the filter area. Is that correct?
Hi, doing it from cabin glove box fan as shown in the video is more efficient than doing it from the engine bay. Because doing it from the engine bay has to go through the metal or plastic vent, then the filter, then core. Hope this helps.
@@NuMBERNYC thanks. I'll give it a go this weekend using your method.
Gorgeous
would the Lysol clog anything up? Like WD - 40 does?
No Lysol won’t clog, It evaporates.
i have sonata hybrid 2020 my ac doesnt heat enogh would this method fix the problem
Hi Milot, I'm sorry, i think you have a heating problem and not a Mold/Mildew Stentch problem.
I tried this, it works for a day. It's better to buy an $8 cabin air filter and install it.
This method won’t work if you have an old cabin filter. You have to change your air filter and engine filter every year.
Just an idea but maybe you should change the cabin air filter. Clean is always the best smell I know.
Yes change the cabin filter every year
Isn't Lysol aerosol flammable?
I'm curious too. I blew up an old vacuum cleaner spraying WD-40 into the engine while it was running.
Left a car at a country spot and due to the weather change I’m assuming is why a mouse crawled into my Hyundai cabin air filter now it’s smells like ammonia pee terrible! Car is immaculate now this
Any recommendations
They want to charge me 200 minimum for the job and they sound unsure if it’s garunteed and not need to take things apart he said 🤦♂️
If you know how to remove the cabin air filter (if not, I made a video) and clean it yourself. Make sure the car if turned off and put some gloves and clean the hell out of that cabin filter location. Then put a new filter.
