The two elf factions have been at war for generations. We saw that the dark elves take no prisoners and just execute everyone. They even attack us visitors without provocation, unlike the light elves. I find it more likely that the light elves might be experimenting with draugr, and that the Dark Elf King is only telling us what he believes. As Mimir told us, both sides believe they're the rightful keepers of the light, and it is their moral duty to keep it from the other side.
I had a theory that The Dark Elves had teamed up with Odin and that's how they got control of the Light. The reason that Odin wanted the Light under control was that you would need the Light of Alfheim to get rid of the Black Breath on the mountain. The Black Breath is a corruption of magic and we know that, Odin took the magic he learned from Freya and used it to serve his own means. So Odin put the Black Breath on the mountain to prevent people from climbing it. Why would he do this? For two reasons, one so no one could get to the last known bridge to Jotunheim, perhaps if there were any Giants left hidden in Midgard, that they wouldn't be able to use the bridge and be stuck in Midgard and two, so no one could get to Mimir. So Odin allied himself with the Dark Elves to give them control of the realm and the Light. The only thing they would have to do is to keep someone from reaching the Light and keep it under control. Therefore keeping someone from being able to get rid of the Black Breath. Now that Kratos and Atreus have released the power of The Light and gotten rid of The Black Breath, Odin's wrath will be coming down on them and perhaps on The Dark Elves for failing in their job. So that is the "Grave mistake" that the Dark Elf spoke of. Odin's retribution.
I always thought it was interesting how the dark elf king kinda "talked" to us multiple times before we fought him. Maybe he was trying to tell us something.

Like kratos said when we entered Alfheim we don’t know what happen in the events before we only seen the end of the war so I think the dark elves where the good guys and we just didn’t know it but I could be wrong
The dark elves respect strength and bravery, in my opinion, the reason he told Kratos and Atreus that their making a mistake is because they were great enough warriors to defeat him, and the respect he gained for them is enough for him to tell Kratos and Atreus that killing him is indeed a mistake and that the light elves are deceivers.
So.... in the mythology, a Draugr is basically an undead body without a soul. In other words, the soul has already moved on, and the body is reanimated. This happens because the body was not buried with proper funeral rites. It’s the Hel Walkers that are souls returning to the body. Now, you might be right about the Light Elves sacrificing people to the light. It’s known that The Light is basically the deity of all the elves. In fact, one of the Lore Stones in Alfheim says “From the light we are born and to the light we return. The light is the river of souls, transforming us, consuming us, transcending life and death. The light is the truth. The light is all.” The way the Norse afterlife works, if a soul goes to Hel for a time, it’s not permanent. Eventually, they will complete trials within Hel, whereby they regain the right to live again. When this happens, it is the light of Alfheim that transports the soul back to Midgard, granting that person a new life. Basically, reincarnation. What the game insinuates is that Tyr (or maybe the Giants) figured out how to harness the Light of Alfheim and use it for travel, since it is, in fact, the light that transports souls from Hel back to Midgard to begin a new life.
@@KaptainKuba No, what I’m saying is that Tyr’s temple, which was built by pretty much everyone, harnesses the light. “The last great project of cooperation” or whatever it was Mimir said about the temple itself. Tyr’s temple uses the light to transport its inhabitants to other realms.
@@KaptainKuba I did a little more thinking about this theory.... you were right in that the elves all worshipped Freyr. Now I’m curious about WHY they seem so interested in the light.... you mentioned that Kratos was addicted... think maybe the elves are also addicted?
The fact that you’re still finding plausible theories so long after this games release is a testament to how much detail the devs at Santa Monica put in the game. Which leads me to believe that at this point you’ve definitely nailed some of these theories right on the head. I seriously hope you’re right when ragnarok finally comes around if that is the official title of the next god of war.
I feel there isn’t good or bad in this situation. Kratos tried to warn Atreus that they don’t know anything about the conflict between the elves and they only involved themselves because the dark elves were hostile and preventing them reaching the light of alfheim, the whole reason they were there. I personally think the King only tried to communicate with them after his defeat because he thought they were possibly allies to the light elves from the beginning. The truth actually being that they could’ve avoided conflict with the Dark elves altogether. Now the likely outcome is Kratos will cause both races to go extinct because he cannot avoid being involved against powerful forces.
Guess it fits within the story of GoW4: normally the Norse gods are protrayed as good and the giants as evil, but they turned that around. We also normally would assume light is good and dark is bad.
Hot take counter theory: what if the oppressors the dark elf kings refers to to are in fact the Aesir? We know already that Odin is mad obsessed with control and dominance, and as we see in-game the light elves are definitely not warriors. So what if by putting control of the light and rule of Alfheim in the hands of the light elves, we effectively hand over the realm to Odin on a silver platter? Makes more sense to me than some broad assumptions about light elves being sinister and secretly evil based entirely on conjecture jussaiyan.
its a very interesting theory, but i will say what i said to you last time about it, using your logic against you with the jails, when the dark elves are in control, the jails are SEALED when we give the light back to the light elves, they OPEN! you pointed out a while back that there are dark elves praying to the light, perhaps feeding off it, usually when you compress energy like that it makes it stronger imo or am i wrong? the light elves don't put up a fight and are seemingly worshipped in midgard by certain humans, its really open to how you view it i guess lol i have an entirely different view but i do agree in the sense the light elves could very well be the "more evil" side
Here are all the holes in this theory. 1. Of course the Dark Elf King is gonna say some shit like “you’ve made a mistake” he feels himself in the right why wouldn’t he think helping the light elves is a mistake? 2. Those prison cells are closed when the dark elves are in control and open with the light elves are in control. Seems when the light elves are in control those cells are open by default. Remember both groups take over the light all the time it’s not a far reach to say at one point the cells were added by the dark elves. 3. There are light elf bodies in some of the prison cells with the draugr. Obviously the dark elves put them in the cells with the draugr. 4. Alfhiem has draugr all over the place not just in prison cells maybe with the overflowing draugr problem they’re flowing through realm tears and entering Alfhiem. There’s literally a realm tear that 2 heavy draugr come out of in Alfhiem.
I remember the first time I heard the Dark Elf King’s last words and Artreus’s translation; I got chills - what If the whole time we thought the king was antagonising us by screaming at us and zipping off, for that matter ALL dark elves, were telling us to turn back. ‘You don’t understand!’ ‘We can stop it!’ Of course with the amount they push against us, IT being Ragnarok with all of the realms divided and some missing, it’s unlikely someone would need the light to make the temple transport. Ragnarok is also called ‘Twilight of the Gods’ meaning the last light of the Gods, the Dark Elves were protecting the light by covering the temple to ensure the light was sustained and controlled. Never in the adventure did I, at least, get the sense that they wanted to destroy the light at all. They nested around it and made sure all paths were cut off. AGAIN, Kratos fucks up by going headlong into death and destruction and we can’t blame him because we are holding the controller.
See I would believe that if they didn't attack us 1st After killing that light off they could have easily went into a guard duty position blocking the pathway And telling us no entering And since it was the end of the war they could have easily gone a high ranking official to talk to us and ask us what we were doing
I doubt this, they could very well have just taken some hellwalkers from midgard to study them. Who's to say the Dark Elves weren't doing that either. Based on the new trailer with Kratos fighting light elves. I have reason to believe the "Grave mistake" they made was that the light elves support the Aesir gods.
There is no good side. No matter how much you look at it, no side in the Elven Ranks is reasonable to be worthy of your combat support. They will just continue the eternal stalemate until the end of time anyways. What better to do to stop a war by just wiping out all of the opposition?
Wait there are humans left in midgar? I thought we fought the last few. My theory is that the light elves will refuse to play there part after ragnarok and kratos will have to figure out how to stop them from just hording all the souls from the end of the world before it happens.
I think he actually said that because the light elves having control of the light is one of the events that sets ragnarok in motion , when you return to alfheim with Mimir he says it’s changed control over 200 times , maybe a certain number was needed for ragnarok? Idk
The one detail that doesn't fit in my mind is that when the light is back to full strength in Alfheim, there are bodies of light elves, not humans in place of the draugir in the cells. When I was playing through the Alfheim I remember thinking, "Aha, so they've turned poor light elves into draugir somehow - or used the undead to torture/kill them!" This feels a bit off now. :)
Could be as simple as Kratos upsetting a great balance of life in the other realms and such, or perhaps you were right about the Light elves sapping other realms of life to fuel the growth of their own.
Nice theory! I always liked the theory that the reason the dark elves were covering the light, is to restrict the flow of souls. Since the Valkyries were corrupted and imprisoned, ALL dead were going to helheim! This overflow cause the dead to SPILL out into the surrounding realms(Especially Midguard), thus speeding up Ragnarok!!The dark elves realize this and try to stave off Ragnarok. We don’t really know if the light elves are EVIL or just fighting for control as they have done THOUSANDS of times before! Maybe this was ODIN’S plain to start Ragnarok early and get it on his timetable... We’ll just have to wait until GOW“ Ragnarok” for the TRUTH👍
What happened to attreus when he stabbed modi he was acting like a completely different person and later he said he didn't remember stabbing modi was atreus possessed or something else

My theory is that the Dark Elves thought Kratos was an Aesir or Einherjar aiding the Light Elves at first... I mean non-elves in Alfheim is super suspicious especially when Odin cut-off realm travel.
I think that Svartaljofurr said we made a mistake because the dark elves were trying to stop the light elves from searching for Freyr and that he's gonna be on the Aesir side and a major antagonist in the next game.
Just wanted to say when you go to break the chains so you can flip the temple, if you go to the right chain and get past the first death puzzle, there’s a ritual looking triangle of candles, blood, and human body parts.
This thing is one of my favorite things to do to players in DnD. Send them to a place. Let them kill the "bad guys". Then watch their horror as they uncover evidence that the people they killed were just defending themselves and/or were actually doing something good.
My theory is that the light and dark elves represent that balance in Ljosalfheimr (Alfheim). The light had just been turned to the dark side as Kratos kills Svartaljofurr. So Kratos, not only did he brought back the light once again. He also, by plot, got rid of the rightful rulers of both sides. Possibly drowning Ljosalfheimr in it's own light.
How about Mimir's dialogue if you bring him to Alfheim saying the Elf two factions have been fighting over the light for so long and changing ownership so often that they can't remember how the civil war started? Maybe the humans could of be outside help been brought in and who was captured, and the Dark Elf King dying words are in reference to how they were treated when the light elf's were last in power?
I believe the reason the LE were able to lure in humans was due to them understanding the effects of the Light. I think the Light show you your love one which make it easier to marketing to humans rather than the promise of a paradise And to support the idea that the DE is right, if I remember correctly they are one of the opponents you have to face at the last trial of Tyr. Which indicates Tyr’s trust in them.
5:40 what made you think days went by? You think Atreus fended off all those dark elves for days before finally having enough and pulling him out? I’d say those moments to kratos were like 10 to 20 mins to Atreus.
It is possible that someone is building their own army by sacrificing human beings and using their souls, they are trying to resurrect or awaken Freyr, the lord of light. The dark elves were simply trying to prevent that from happening... Whatever the reason may be can't wait to play the next game.
maybe the reason why the light elves didn’t defend themselves is because they saw kratos and pretended to act defenceless and look like the “good” elves . Tricking kratos to fight for them.
A lot of people miss that this section of the game has a lot to do with perspective, which is also why it seems all the puzzles of this area are perspective based. "line up the weird fungus stuff" That is also what Kratos is trying to teach Atreus. there are no good guys or bad guys in war, both sides want something, and both sides have something to lose. Survival and or Advantage.
I thought it would be related to the consequences of ragnarok. Obviously all of the nine realms are involved in the end times and the last dark elf you kill was the figurehead, most likely destined to lead the dark elf army into Ragnarok. Same as with magni and modi, and the accelerated fimbelwinter.
I think we all had a weird feeling leaving that places . I feel like the light was some kind super weapon the light elves had and used it on the dark elves .
I'm on the side of Kratos. He needs the light of Alfheim, the dark elves were in the way. Plus they weren't very nice themselves by attacking first without provocation. So yeah, 10/10 would murder my way in Alfheim again
What about freyr he’s obviously gonna fight Kratos and boy on the side that his sister is on i bet surtr has been the odd one out since he’s gonna kill freyr
I think that the dark elves should’ve tried to talk it out, but we can’t blame them for trying to kill us because we entered their space without permission.
I forgot where exactly but when you complete the game 100% you'll eventually found out that the white elves are slavers and from the previous missions it will mention the time you get to alfheim was actually a rebellion lead by the black elves fighting their slavers, the white elves and why Kratos attacked the black elves because they were hostile so indirectly helping the white elves. Kratos would also mention to Atreus that "things are not everything it seems to be".
Now I understand why the dark elves were trying to cover the light, to save the humans being sacrificed 😭❤️😖 Did not know light elves were the real wolves in sheeps clothing 🐺 🐑
In mythology dark elves were kind of oppressed and misunderstood due to where they came from and how they looked so eventually they became aggressive to other races.
On your way out from visiting the light of Alfheim you can find a lil lore scripture that says all of the light elves have been called to search for their lord Freyr which could explain why you find dead light elves in the other realms.
I figure that if we get any expansion to this elf war in Alfheim, it’ll shed more light that’ll make both factions seem morally dubious. Kratos _should_ be right in saying that we don’t know the circumstances and shouldn’t assume that light must mean ‘good’ while dark has to mean ‘bad.’ It still makes me question how they’re going to convince everyone that the dark elves have a justified reason to be fighting considering that they full on attacked Kratos and Artreus for merely walking around, while the light elves never tried to inflict any sort of harm on Kratos. The worst they did was ignored his presence like snobs, but that’s a far cry from outright trying to murder Kratos just for being in a region they believe is there’s
the light elves were on the verge of losing the current war, I doubt they're worried about fighting the strange man and child who happen to be killing the dark elves, I think we'll see the full might of the light elves after they recovered in the next game
@@333dae It's certainly possible. The God of War series has always featured entities that were once neutral towards, or even allied with, Kratos that eventually turned on him. On a side note, part of me has always hated the betrayals and having to kill characters like Gaia. I'd like to be buddies with the Light Elves, but I know that's not how Kratos rolls, and it's generally not how the God of War series has flowed. I could definitely see the Light Elves being a thorn in Kratos' side in the upcoming Ragnorak after directly being benefited by Kratos and Atreus' siege on the Dark Elves' hideout.
Already knew souls were gonna be mentioned in the video. The game has a lot to do with the souls of the dead it is mentioned a lot through out. We just need to put it all together.
I can't see why the Dark Elves didn't just say what was happening instead of attacking. Obviously they would be wary of anyone who isnt a dark elf but surely some sort of communication would've helped.
I think you or Jon had video about statue made from tree of snake in valkyrie chamber, was it in alfheim or helheim? I remember he had something to do with bringing people back to life. That might be somehow connected if they're trying to make narration that way
I think the Humans found a bridge to alfheim they made permanent to be able to invade and kill them. I think the Humans are the opressors as in the dark elf king calls Kratos the oppressor for being a human, and they believe the light of Alfheim is holy and would be tainted by human oppressors. The Draugr are probably POWs who invaded and got caught, because both elves and Dark elves repelled the human assault and just died in jail.
The way I see it, they attacked first completely unprovoked. They did not know Kratos and Atreus’s business there but chose to attack anyway. If the Dark Elves wanted, they could have at least spoke first with a warning. Also, I don’t think Kratos really cares. Faye intended for all of this to happen as we find out in the end. If the actions of Kratos and Atreus aided evil, then Faye knew this would happen and is evil herself. Ultimately, the side bickering between the Dark and Light Elves may just be that...a side story. Nothing of real consequence when it comes to the main story. Can’t wait for the next GoW!
I think the light elves are selfish and monopolize the power of the light for themselves. They see any race other than themselves as less than which would explain why they don't acknowledge Kratos or Atreus' presence when they open the door and they just float right pass them even though they just saved them.
Hey kuba I got a question if you can answer it. Do the gods, asir/greek, need worshipers to maintain their power or gain more power or does it not matter? Kratos doesn't have worshippers i believe and he's still very strong so it makes me wonder🤔

There goes kratos again doing something good only to have something bad happen afterwards
The road to hell is really paved with good intentions...
Bro predicted the next game
I mean the dark elf king should’ve just said that but noooooooooo…… he showed up wanting to throw hands 😂
its a very interesting theory, but i will say what i said to you last time about it, using your logic against you with the jails, when the dark elves are in control, the jails are SEALED when we give the light back to the light elves, they OPEN! you pointed out a while back that there are dark elves praying to the light, perhaps feeding off it, usually when you compress energy like that it makes it stronger imo or am i wrong? the light elves don't put up a fight and are seemingly worshipped in midgard by certain humans, its really open to how you view it i guess lol i have an entirely different view but i do agree in the sense the light elves could very well be the "more evil" side
Last time I was this early, Kuba was still signing off with "gooooodbye"
Lol I didn't remember that
Here are all the holes in this theory.
Your right
I always knew something wrong with light elves when the leader of dark elves said he's last word
Please continue with this type of content you’re the only TH-camr that has gone into the lore and unanswered questions of god of war
I'm glad you like the content man
I remember the first time I heard the Dark Elf King’s last words and Artreus’s translation; I got chills - what If the whole time we thought the king was antagonising us by screaming at us and zipping off, for that matter ALL dark elves, were telling us to turn back.
There is humans in Midgard, but apparently there just hiding. And the only humans you can actually see are the reavers
That "don't worry, its not raid shadow legends" comment was pure gold.
Really imaginative theory, I'm glad I can comback now knowing more details. Hope you make some more cool lore videos around this game and other sooon!
When Kratos lays down the law, there are no mistakes!💪☘
Could be as simple as Kratos upsetting a great balance of life in the other realms and such, or perhaps you were right about the Light elves sapping other realms of life to fuel the growth of their own.
Did you forget there’s a whole light elf outpost in Midgard
Dark elf: you made a grave mistake
Kratos, the god of war: war is *WAR*
@straightfromdamoon yepp Loki is the bad side of atreus
i think y’all keep forgetting that atreus literally drank with kratos wine from lemnos( this happened after Tyrs trials) which would explain the sudden flip of attitude going from good and caring to bad and selfish and then he forgets? says that it couldn’t have been him. Yup i think he was drunk, he would never disrespect mother
@@BostonsVeryOwn. a sip of wine? Got him drunk? He kept is good aim? Killed multiple draugr himself...talked normally without slipping up? He wasn't drunk, definitely not. He was acting like kratos in gow2
@@BostonsVeryOwn. a sip of wine? Got him drunk? He kept is good aim? Killed multiple draugr himself...talked normally without slipping up? He wasn't drunk, definitely not. He was acting like kratos in gow2
@@Alexander-pm3zx ok don’t take it as he isnt literally drunk but definitely affected by alcohol, there’s suden change in behavior and there’s no reason for him to be the way he acts, like sindri, talking down on your mom like she’s nothing, right gow 2 kratos vibes, kratos anger and rage came from revenge, what’s atreus? modi talking shit about mom just to insult later. just used the drunk concept because when ur drunk ur total opposite of what you are just like atreus acted.
My theory is that the Dark Elves thought Kratos was an Aesir or Einherjar aiding the Light Elves at first... I mean non-elves in Alfheim is super suspicious especially when Odin cut-off realm travel.
2:09 it’s called phototropsim
I think that Svartaljofurr said we made a mistake because the dark elves were trying to stop the light elves from searching for Freyr and that he's gonna be on the Aesir side and a major antagonist in the next game.
Just wanted to say when you go to break the chains so you can flip the temple, if you go to the right chain and get past the first death puzzle, there’s a ritual looking triangle of candles, blood, and human body parts.
Oh damn, you’re pregnant bro!!! Congratulations to you and the misses
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh What Tf
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, is that light Elves are nowhere near as virtuous as they’re always portrayed in lores, they can be quiet f*cked up
Nice to see that you finally got a sponsor
man after ragnarok its crazy you where right!
I think it's interesting how the Light Elves' eyes shine the same way Atreus' did when he called the World Serpent
I didn’t notice that until you brought it up, nice catch
This thing is one of my favorite things to do to players in DnD. Send them to a place. Let them kill the "bad guys". Then watch their horror as they uncover evidence that the people they killed were just defending themselves and/or were actually doing something good.
What’s dnd?
@@clarkdark2906 Dungeons and Dragons
Interesting theory but this is the first time I've fully watched a TH-camr's promotion
Same lol
They’re like 2 different types of moths fighting for control of the lamp lol
With the release of the god of war ragnarok trailer, it most definitely seems that the light elves are in the wrong
I believe the reason the LE were able to lure in humans was due to them understanding the effects of the Light. I think the Light show you your love one which make it easier to marketing to humans rather than the promise of a paradise
And to support the idea that the DE is right, if I remember correctly they are one of the opponents you have to face at the last trial of Tyr. Which indicates Tyr’s trust in them.
Whell in some mythology sone elves steals babys from humans also the monolits when druids make human sacrifice and rip off the skin of the victim..
5:40 what made you think days went by? You think Atreus fended off all those dark elves for days before finally having enough and pulling him out? I’d say those moments to kratos were like 10 to 20 mins to Atreus.
The novel confirms it was about 2 days
It is possible that someone is building their own army by sacrificing human beings and using their souls, they are trying to resurrect or awaken Freyr, the lord of light. The dark elves were simply trying to prevent that from happening... Whatever the reason may be can't wait to play the next game.
maybe the reason why the light elves didn’t defend themselves is because they saw kratos and pretended to act defenceless and look like the “good” elves . Tricking kratos to fight for them.
They would still have control of the light if they left you alone and didn't attack you so
A lot of people miss that this section of the game has a lot to do with perspective, which is also why it seems all the puzzles of this area are perspective based.
"line up the weird fungus stuff"
That is also what Kratos is trying to teach Atreus. there are no good guys or bad guys in war, both sides want something, and both sides have something to lose.
Survival and or Advantage.
Hmmm, how long were the dark elves in control? If they gained control before atreus was born was stopped him from dying at birth, Hel?
Thanks!
I thought it would be related to the consequences of ragnarok. Obviously all of the nine realms are involved in the end times and the last dark elf you kill was the figurehead, most likely destined to lead the dark elf army into Ragnarok. Same as with magni and modi, and the accelerated fimbelwinter.
kuba: please dont tell konaruhi
also kuba: puts it in his video
I think we all had a weird feeling leaving that places . I feel like the light was some kind super weapon the light elves had and used it on the dark elves .
That's crazy that into the am sponsored you I've loved their stuff for ages
I'm on the side of Kratos. He needs the light of Alfheim, the dark elves were in the way. Plus they weren't very nice themselves by attacking first without provocation. So yeah, 10/10 would murder my way in Alfheim again
I look back at this and I remember seeing a light elf attack you when you climb up to the light of alphiem
Not even really humans. He said the oppressors will enslave ALL.
Magni didn’t come back to life because a god killed him. The kid says “I thought only a god can kill a god” like immediately after you kill him.
The next game is going to be crazy! I don't think none of us are ready :p
The Dark Elves just wanted to drive the N’wahs away from Morrowind
@@333dae
It's certainly possible.
These light elves so mean they just walk away even there's a God of war
Already knew souls were gonna be mentioned in the video. The game has a lot to do with the souls of the dead it is mentioned a lot through out. We just need to put it all together.
I can't see why the Dark Elves didn't just say what was happening instead of attacking. Obviously they would be wary of anyone who isnt a dark elf but surely some sort of communication would've helped.
I think you or Jon had video about statue made from tree of snake in valkyrie chamber, was it in alfheim or helheim? I remember he had something to do with bringing people back to life. That might be somehow connected if they're trying to make narration that way
Yes the lindwyrm
Dark Elves being the good guys or not does not matter to me, cause those assholes were the most annoying enemies to fight against 😠
Kuba makes good theory’s and overall good content
Thank you so much man
I like the details that the tree point forward towards the light for photosynthesis, as in real life it does that as well

You and Jon Ford are directly helpful for Cory barlog for creating new stories for GOW 5
If any human army even took one fart's length into alfheim they would be defeated faster than Hermes was de-feeted.
"Do not assume. You are seeing the end of a war, boy. You do not know what led to this moment."
Kratos.
Hey kuba I got a question if you can answer it. Do the gods, asir/greek, need worshipers to maintain their power or gain more power or does it not matter? Kratos doesn't have worshippers i believe and he's still very strong so it makes me wonder🤔
Great question dude
Im pretty sure Kuba did a video on this topic. How to kill a God. Or smth like that. It explained what you're asking. Its either Kuba or Jon Ford, not sure now (video)
@@nedasv5300 thanks dude ill try to find that
The original novel of the first game alludes to that, but i don't think is the case
