    I got here by accident and I have to admit that your reviews are fantastic! Sound very objective, no pseudo-scientific bs. Finally I could learn something about DT 700 Pro X. I would be even more happy to watch and hear you comparing fresh DT770 Pro X LE with Stellar.45. It might be interesting compromise between analytical and little to bright 770 and veiled 700.

    I'm currently using the hd6xx's as my dailies and I'd say I enjoy them. My only gripe is that the open back design literally let's me hear everything. Do you think these would be a good substitute for music listening and gaming. A lot of what I hear about these is that they're only good for studio monitoring

    hi☺️
    first of all, nice review, I really like following your videos as I love how you explain and specify the various areas, without saying one or the other is better, (I don't always like a great sound stage, sometimes I prefer it tight in various uses, and you too see precisely that you describe it as it is in the headphones you are reviewing, with some comparisons but without dor and better because it is more or less, as more or less is not always better or worse )
    can I ask you for a small comparison with the rode nth 100 (apart from the construction and the obvious problem that the rode have)
    thanks and keep it up
    (sorry for the mistakes but I wrote with google translate, I hope everything is clear)

  • @WillCarterTech

    Honestly i’d rather replace the stock ear pads with a third party custom fit ear pad. There are a ton of options for the DT 770. I’m sure there will be third party options for the dt 700.
    Having an extra set of ear pads in the box would be wasteful.
    Great review!

  • @nikolaygramchev
    @nikolaygramchev 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Great review - all is clear! The comparisons say it all to me. It looks to me that Beyerdynamic did some trade offs trying to make the 700 more mass market product - they suppressed some of the 'contravercial' characteristics of the 770 but l think that made the 700 generic. Well, I accept the strive to make the 700 neutral, but killing the wide soundstage and loosing detail in exchange for neutrality is not a good trade off for me. And even worse, the beauty of the 770, 880, 990 was that the three were having well defined identity - 880 is neutral, 770 is more bass, 990 is more treble and the three have very good imaging and soundstage and decent quantity of detail retrieval. What happens now, according to me, is that 700 and 900 lost the main differentiating characteristics of the series, sounding quite similar. Yes, neutral is difficult, but going this way they betray the well appraised identity. I think the biggest mistake will be if Beyerdynamic stops producing the 770, 880, 900.

    • @peen2804
      @peen2804 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This isn’t a replacement. If you want a 770 buy a 770 for $150 less. literally all of your complaints are that’s it’s not a headphone that it isn’t. if it had the signatures you’re saying make the others unique then it wouldn’t really be unique anymore it would be a $150 more expensive clone. it being more neutral means it useful for the people they’re actually marketing it to… professionals that want a neutral sound, and they do a pretty good job of that for the price.

    • @nikolaygramchev
      @nikolaygramchev 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@peen2804 Well, since it is not a replacement, I wrote that I hope they will not stop 770. Second, I have no complaints, these are contemplations. Third, I really think they would have been better accepted if they went improving the 770 and the 990 - for example, a more tight bass for the 770 and a lower pick in treble for the the 990 plus better detail retrieval for both. Now they did a Harmanish signature. Last, I think, these headphones are for big production companies which buy dozens for the technicians, I think real production professionals use better ones that have better resolurion.

    • @mrnelsonius5631
      @mrnelsonius5631 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think Beyerdynamic purposely focused on folks like me with this line: producers/mix engineers/content creators. I’ve never been able to trust their previous models for mixing because of the high frequency bump and they got fatiguing fast for my ears. I just got a set of 900xs and the frequency response is like my studio monitors with room calibration: pretty neutral. That will likely sound “boring” to a lot of folks but it’s precisely what I need in headphones. So far I really like them, my only complaint is that detail retrieval in the midrange isn’t as strong as my 6xx. I’m hoping they open up there with some burn in. I LOVE the bass response and tuning which is something I’m really picky about with headphones.

      I had the same thoughts about the 770/880/990 trifecta and wished the new model numbers didn’t seem to be trying to take the thunder away from the classics. Though i do recall that there was at least one other 900 variant long ago in the early 90s, i believe? Maybe the 911 or 960? I forget the number, but i saw it in an old catalog PDF shared online

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The K371 follows the Harman Target, which means it has a very bassy signature. The 700 has less bass emphasis, a bit more clarity and soundstage. The 700 is likely closer to what you've described than the 371.

    Thanks for the review!! My concern about those headphones is their low-ish impedance and their pairing with audio interfaces that have some how not perfect output impedance like the SSL 2+ I own (10 Ohm output impedance). I also have the ADI-2 DAC fs to my main (speaker but not only) system. I’m in search for a full sized closed headphone mainly for the SSL to complement with my HD600 and HD25 Alum. Finnaly a review that exactly match what I think. I tried and compared all 3 ( Exept the Neumann) and I agree 100% with you. Thank you, I will subscribe. I am just wondering , if diassembling it (700 pro x) and change that thick filter in front of the driver to other one more thin, for example the ones that come with the 770, would bring back the Highs detail, as I think that is what is causing the muffled sound of them. I will actually try it soon by my self and I will let you know.

    • @brunovalente2077
      @brunovalente2077 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      well, I just did it, inow the 700 pro X sounds superb, I love it. Magically all the highs come out and also mids. Surprisily they have more High Spectrum then the 770, and still keeping the tigh and definided bass as with the original foams. What I did was removing completely that thick gray circle foam in the front of the drivers and replace it with other one thiner. When I compare AB with the 770, this ones are clearly more v shape, the 770 have more low mids but surprisely less highs, and in this ones the mid highs are superior and in general all frequencies are well defined and separated. Encorage everyone to try it, its very simple to dismount and replace. For my genre, Electronic music I love the signature and the kick and bass punch its so more satisfying to listen to, and now, why Beyerdynamics take this bussiness decision of shipping it originally that way, its still a mystery for me, because the drivers are littery a much more advanced and better technology then the 770 990 series. By the way I am using the dt 770 pro 80 ohms.

      They are night and day different. There's really no comparison. The x55 is significantly clearer, more detailed, has far more accurate placement, and wider soundstage. Great review as always. If you were to choose between the DT700 or Hi-X65 specifically for the musical listening pleasure which would you lean towards. I’m in my senior years so hearing is somewhat compromised do to the normal aging process. I do love my music. You’ve introduced me to many new options that I didn’t know existed. Have you listened to the soundtrack to “The Tourist”? It’s great for comparing headphones.

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They both do things very differently. If your hearing is less clear due to aging, then the DT700 or other similar headphones might sound muffled. In that case, depending on which frequency range you have difficulty hearing, you may want to find a headphone that accentuates that specific aspect. If you have a harder time hearing treble, then the DT990, Austrian Audio Hi-x55, x65, x15, and x25bt might be worth considering.
      As for which one I'd personally use...well...that depends on what I'm listening to. I'd probably use the DT700 or DT900 for daily tasks, casual listening, but for more analytical jobs, I grab the Austrian Audio headphones. Personally, I think they perform well with some genres like classical and orchestral. Not so much with pop and rock, or hip-hop. But everybody's different, so I can't say this is a general rule.

      @@NoThemeReviews thanks - yes, that’s what I meant. Honestly I tried both, I guess the 177x wins in the dynamic range department but the NDH sounded more detailed to me. For some tracks, I preferred the first, some others the latter. However, I couldn’t really put my finger in any of them in terms of value.

    How did you come to the decision of what "neutral" is? It's clear there is no actual reference for neutral, given Harman, Diffuse Field, Ollo's take etc... Is it a flat response? It seems there is a general consensus of around where neutral is, but specifics seem to differ quite a bit. You seem very confident that your neutral /is/ neutral. Is that from research or is it just your personal benchmark you use as reference?
    Just an FYI I'm not upset or anything either way, just genuinely curious

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Neutral is what you want it to be I suppose. I don’t promote the Harman target for a number of reasons, the principal of which is that it’s based on a limited study that seems totally at-odds with the studio monitors and headphones artists tend to use.
      To your specific question: I listened to a lot of headphones and tried to find tuning that doesn’t accentuate bass or treble. So, a flat FR is the ideal but it’s never going to happen in reality. I’ve found that the OLLO, Avantone, and others have similar ways of NOT accentuating bass and treble. Obviously the sound signatures aren’t identical but what I think is within my idea of neutral.
      My method is exclusionary. I have to assume that artists don’t intend to make music in which you struggle to hear the vocals or which have a sharp, piercing treble. A lot of reviewers have said similar things, and that’s another reason I think my idea of neutral isn’t unique.
      But because I don’t have an objective, universal standard, I use various headphones as my guidelines: the Avantone Planar, OLLO S4X, DT880, HD6XX, SRH-1540, Moondrop Quarks. To pick just one of these as the only benchmark would be problematic. Using all of them leaves enough room for some variation without materially deviating from the “neutral” category.

    After testing these headphones, I found them to be accurate and relatively neutral, with perhaps a little too much treble, but much less aggressive than the DT 770's treble, which my ears cannot stand... The only problem with these headphones is that they have almost no low-mids or high bass, and as their bass is not very deep, I could not use them as monitoring headphones, especially for tracking a bass guitar...

    • @NoThemeReviews
      @NoThemeReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, the HE400se might be better for that other person, not for everyone. Unfortunately, your question is only going to give you very personal, subjective responses. The DT900 and HD6xx are vastly different from each other. The DT900 is a fairly analytical headphone, and if you are sensitive to treble, then this headphone is probably not going to sound pleasant to you. The DT900 also has an emphasized bass--which might not suit movies and games that do rely on a lot of bass in their recordings. The HD6xx has a more neutral sound signature, more bass, but less clarity than the DT900. You'll have to decide what sound signature you're looking for to fit your requirements.
