Rebuilding Caterpillar 966D Dozer Transmission Due to Slow to Engage || Restoration Transmission

  • Discovering your dozer’s transmission is on the outs is not a great feeling. Here is a look at five common problems construction machine owners run into when the transmission is starting to go, what the likely culprit is, and what to look for.
    1. TRANSMISSION SLOW TO ENGAGE
    This usually happens due to transmission pump issues or oil leaks. If it’s happening to you, check the oil levels, look for oil leaks, and tighten all clamps. If oil leaks don’t seem to be the problem, your dozer’s transmission pump likely needs to be repaired or replaced.
    2. OVERHEATING
    First, make sure air flow isn’t restricted in the radiator or oil cooler. Airflow can become restricted by dirt and other debris. Next, check for oil leaks in the transmission clutch pack and torque converter. Overheating is often caused by clutch pack problems.
    3. LOSS OF DRIVE AND HYDRAULICS
    This is usually caused by a flex plate problem. Inspect the engine to see if there is any debris that may be causing issues too.
    4. ONLY ONE TRACK MOVES
    The root of this is almost always a broken plate in the clutch pack.
    5. TRACKS NOT ENGAGING AT THE SAME TIME
    The side that takes longer to engage probably has an oil leak. Sometimes shaft oil control rings are the problem. There could also be a problem with seal rings.

    Every time I see videos like this it strikes me that concrete and rebar must be like gold in these country’s.
    They are all working in the dirt, not even the simplest of workbenches as long as the eye can see.

      I take that back, there was a workbench in there 😅
      Concrete on the other hand, nope.

      It's intentional. You can drop heavy parts and tools all day long on a hard packed dirt floor and it wont do anything to the parts but try that on a cement floor and your gonna damage something and it much easier on the feet than a cement floor. The wester world just has a hard on for covering everything in Concreate.
      The Asian Squatting also means that they can get close to their work on the ground so they don't have to have a lot of work benches.

    I wouldn't have believed it, If I wouldn't have seen it. How these ambitious young men, where cleanliness is next to impossible, rebuild a sophisticated CAT transmission with basic hand tools and the ever present big hammers. Very good!! Thanks for showing us how it's done.

  • @akiko009
    @akiko009 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    That's pretty impressive. If I were doing it I would be very concerned about having a few parts left over at the end. And who needs torque wrenches when one has a calibrated elbow...
    Also goes to show that a bit of dust and grains of sand are no problem at least for some transmissions.
    Looking at that one bearing, it seems someone forgot to maintain fluid levels. That can get expensive.
    I'm surprised that it looks like they didn't replace more bearings, such as those on the planetary gears and on the clutch center gear.
    Someone should show them the trick for using the old bearing to install a new one. It's a lot easier on the bearing.

    Hammering on bearings. clutch packs in the dirt. Bearings in the dirt. Sanding next to bearings. Bearings worn flat. Torching bearings. Not even a toothbrush available to clean the grooves. No micrometers or feeler gauges. At least they have some compressed air! If it doesn't fit, get a bigger hammer! Oh, the backaches!

    You have the old bearings sat right there which are perfect for using to drive in the new ones, but instead you guys pound directly on the new bearings with a hammer. Suppose it keeps work coming into the shop...

    • @lo2740
      @lo2740 ปีที่แล้ว

      if it was the only problem, lol. Why all thse pakistan indian videos are always exactly the same, these guys have no clue and do everything wrong, they also have no tools, how could a shop have no tools in any part of the world, its not about money because they are a business, they necessary charge the parts, also sine the country is very poor the good are also cheap, they could certainly afford the proper tools and work correctly. SO the only conclusion is that, in some part of the world, with certain mentality, that is just how things are done, and it suits them.
