Thanks for the video always helpful , DAD !!!!Those (0) rings , anti vibe mounts and crank seals are all available here in Canada at good prices .There's no point in typing the company that has them because every time I do, my post gets deleted from youtube I suppose? Very good video. Good mechanical knowledge. I have the same habits when building anything. Learning to adapt and making your own tools. I would gladly have a saw that you built. Good to see someone who enjoys what they do.👍
I was just in the process of changing fuel hose on my 266/72 the other day and when you where talking about trimming the length so the filter end moved around easier within the tank. I thought to myself that I had better checked mine. Instead of trimming, try reversing the hose!
They make rubber guards that slide onto the ax handle and do almost the same thing as a wrap, we got some at work and I started throwing them on my wedge banger, splitting maul. And some sledge hammers. They're a real life saver if, like me, your accuracy leave something to be desired
Thank you so much for showing us how to do crank seals. I've been a little apprehensive about doing them because I haven't been that deep into a bottom end before. Now I feel much more confident. Thanks again!
Late to the party, but excellent content. It's what I need to see. New at working on saws, first project is an 056, then a Husky 61, 576 and a 365. Thanks!
Thanks for the content Tinman and congratulations on being a father, it's the best! I wanted to say that a maul definitely has it's place in the woodyard for those tough to split wood pieces. As much as I like using a splitting ax, the old maul and some iron wedges come in handy from time To time. I like a 6lb maul
i'm on the prairie, not a lot of softwood trees. just chunky old elm and ash impossible to split with one swipe. i've spent many hours pounding mushroomed out iron wedges
Hey Tinman, that was top Content. These Basics are very important for a good Saw. Crank seals could be such freaky Assh…! When you want a good Saw, you have to look at everything on it. You make a perfect Saw for Hogan that will last. Waiting for the next Part of this Rebuilt. Thanks for sharing!
thank you for this content. Bought a 266se localy because of your channel. it was quite slow, but with good porting numbers in a 272 cylinder it became a True ripper.
I'm glad to hear you got a bigger carburator on that 266xp, Because I took a carburator off of my 1320K railroad saw that had a 255 and replaced the stock 224 carburator and did an exaust mod on my Tomos Slavaina Yugoslavia 266XP and I was literally laughing today when the saw got into the power band! I have an awesome arborist around my area that dropped off some big Douglas fir logs in my driveway and it's just about the most fun a 55 year old man could have if you ask me! The saw is a hog slayer! The sound my 266XP has says it all! I don't even have to brag about how badass it is! It speaks for itself and boy does it got alot too say! I love the sound of a Husqvarna, So I figured I'd better get a couple more Husqvarna chainsaws and was fortunate enough to introduce two more two my chainsaw collection. I got ahold of a 61 300th anniversary edition and a 1974 L65 and just an exaust mod on the L65 and I am impressed with that thing for a 1974! And I hear nothing but stihl coming from every guy I talk to these days I like to tell them that they're is other brands besides a stihl and I have two Sachs-Dolmar super 120 and my 266XP that I think are just as good if not better than a stihl! 🤩
I could not agree with u more about the work saw concept, years past I would try and explain the "Total Saw" concept. You have a lathe right? Turn up a few seal drivers. I have for most of the "common" for me saws. 372,390 etc. Even 550's. Looks like that might be something I do for another 670--272 blend build. Details like 1184 on oil pump screws....critical. And one concept I heard u "hint" at then slide right past, is too much sometimes looks cool & runs cool for a while. Stress past the design limits of things like the case/crank and it's just a matter of time before things like bearing pockets get pounded out :) Not a work saw concept. Great video. Who ever gets that saw will be a fortunate person. :) Excellent video!
Any idears where a guy can get an oem 266xp cylinder ? Seems like they aren’t very plentiful - I came across some info that a 670 jonsereds cylinder (which I CAN get) will fit but the cylinder has a nipple vs the block - no big deal to swap but just asking , maybe someone has a secret stash of them and is willing to part for the right coin 🪙
G'day , If you come down under for a visit you may not pick up any tips and if that's the case I'll probably say OZ didn't give anything to the Tinman that he didn't already have 🤔😜anyway back in the early 80's when I first used huskies I can remember how easy they were on the operator compared to the Stihls that were hard on you to run but as it turned out the very thing that made the huskies a pleasure to run in the hardest wood also was its undoing those mounts would flog out in no time. Husky has worked hard to build saws that suite Australian standards and a lot of young blokes are running them now days, I also think Stihl has used similar concepts for their anti vibe on their medium size saws but I'm not certain about that and maybe incorrect 👍🇦🇺.
Many thanks from Sweden! I am a happy amateur.. have rebuild a small 242xpg. Have an old 260cd, that starts and run, but requires some love. It will be fun. Great channel !
I split all my firewood with heavy axes and mauls. The key to splitting this way is how you buck your logs up. Cut short and spit less. And have a solid base to split on. I do it in my garage on an old crane mat.
Hello , came across your channel by accident looking for parts for a stihl, and up popped a video from TH-cam, I have an 038 Magnum, was in a shop for repairs for over a year, got it back in a thousand pieces , the problem in this country is getting spare parts for this saw , like hens teeth rare , lot of after market on ebay, but OEM out of the question, decided to do the repairs myself, have watched all your 038 videos , I say THANK YOU , have learnt a lot , about assembling the beast , Peter 🇦🇺
Spot on video. Starting to tear down the carcass of an old 266xp. The 272xp I built cut another cord of wood today. Still running it a bit fat on the top end till it fully seats the ring. It was 10°C here today, virtually no wind, today, perfect cutting weather. After I was warmed up I was cutting in a t-shirt. Thanks again Tinman for all your sharing of knowledge. 200 series husky are my absolute favorite. The 55's are in my wheel house as well. Just good reliable saws. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

I find heat gun the case up a bit with heat gun, and push them in with vice and socket, also use retaining compound for the surface of the seal or case so that you don't get any leaking round that part.👍
The 200 series was always my favourite to work on. 266 was never that popular here. 254 out sold them 3-1. Firewood guys usually went 61 or 630 Jonsered.

I absolutely should've just pushed new ones in when I bought the old saw, but I couldn't be bothered with it. So yeah. It's in a box waiting for me. Got the new bearings in, just need to finish. Donny uses moto seal on the pump side around the o-ring too. I know he's smart doin that, but man it's a mess when ya pull that pump out next time. I dunno, I may just do it again because I'll get irate if I have to tear back into it after all that eh. Smh. Winter's coming, where us guys shimmy out to the ole barn & get out tinkering done. Whenever I do bearings like this with hand tools and tight fits, I put the female part in the oven on warm, just to expand it ever so slightly. Usually just enough to not mangle the bearing when installing. If all metal bearings I'll put female in the oven and bearing in freezer, and they slide together without a hammer.
Tinman, I've got what I think is a 268xp. Data plate and stickers are missing... Is there any reliable way of knowing what model I have?? Thanks and keep up the great videos!!!
For my start on urban tree felling or falling,I need a big saw. I only have a new Husky 445 x-torque ; not exactly a take-down saw. Would you please help me find one from your homeland. I like Huskies but I don't reject Stihl. I am a very experienced engine builder and I am well "tooled" up. Thank you for all you do. If I am feeling down, I come to you and, truthfully, I am sunny again. I am in Iowa, and, oddly enough, I cannot find a big saw. I understand it will be expensive to ship but I can handle it.
Hey was wondering if the brand bearings matter an if so what are you running? I’m building a 268 with a 272 top end so I want go threw the bottom and make sure she hold up
You should check out Florida. It's always warm most often humid and only 1/3 of the trees are native so you never know what your going to cut. And everyone just loves Ironwood trees....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hey Tinman O-rings might look a feel good but take them out. Check the inside of the ring but most importantly the condition of the groove because o-rings seal on three sides. Inside, outside and one of the edges of the groove
Just replaced my oil filter on my 266xp. Did as shown.... cut a collar from a pop can, did not overtighten the three bolts (put some thread lock on). But when I reassembled it, I could hardly pull the starter cord.... it was SO tight.... any thoughts anyone?
I enjoy learning but I get the feeling you are an election away from being a politician. I left nuclear egineering to work with my hands and to me nothing beats woods work. Maybe the better way to explain mods is to do what mods can be undone first then move on to risking the one way mods like cutting ports. Your notes could save a lot of experimenting . That is why I am here and you are honest to a fault.
Some great tips there tinman. Sometimes if housing is parallel i have used vice jaws carefully to press brgs in.

Hey tinman, will those husqvarna flippy gas caps fit your sachs dolmar 120? I've got a 120 and wouldn't mind using a flippy cap on it :)
Thanks
Thanks Paul
Thanks!
You're welcome buddy
My 266XP Saw is stock but refreshed with muffler mod, some big dogs. It pulls a 24" bar ok but not great. With a 24" it isnt ballanced well.
Hey was wondering if the brand bearings matter an if so what are you running? I’m building a 268 with a 272 top end so I want go threw the bottom and make sure she hold up
was your saw faulty , or was the other saw he had was more "interesting " to him at the time ?
Speaking of VI it’s sunny and 21 C here today
Love a good work saw don't have go be a race saw.
See if you can tell us where you got those o-rings from.
All my orings are husqvarna oem. I haven't bought any aftermarket ones.
I think you can get then from McMaster Carr
Bạn làm video nói về phần điện cửa câh cưa này nhé?
How much would you guys spend for a saw like this? Not mint but runs.
You should check out Florida. It's always warm most often humid and only 1/3 of the trees are native so you never know what your going to cut. And everyone just loves Ironwood trees....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've been to Florida several times, love it there
Hey Tinman O-rings might look a feel good but take them out. Check the inside of the ring but most importantly the condition of the groove because o-rings seal on three sides. Inside, outside and one of the edges of the groove
This is why I glue them. Never had a leak since I started doing that.
Hogan's 266 has more frequent flyer points than a Wall Street CEO.
Just replaced my oil filter on my 266xp. Did as shown.... cut a collar from a pop can, did not overtighten the three bolts (put some thread lock on). But when I reassembled it, I could hardly pull the starter cord.... it was SO tight.... any thoughts anyone?
What is your opinion on the 572 xp
I have a 570 is that the same as the 572
What is the difference between a 266se and a 266xp
Piston, carb and cylinder are different
Отличная пила, как бы поршневую группу на неё купить у нас в РБ нет ничего
There was snow on the ground this morning

Tôi có biết dùng gưa huqvanaz 266xpg
Idk man I have had really bad luck with the Chinese crank seals and most of there other stuff
Weird I've installed probably 100 of the Chinese seals and not one failure.
If you cut my wood we have a bigger problem
😆
Ok you
Cut that ash at 5 ft and split it into handle blanks
I enjoy learning but I get the feeling you are an election away from being a politician. I left nuclear egineering to work with my hands and to me nothing beats woods work. Maybe the better way to explain mods is to do what mods can be undone first then move on to risking the one way mods like cutting ports. Your notes could save a lot of experimenting . That is why I am here and you are honest to a fault.
Don't come to BC then, because you'll never want to go home 😊
