- How to zero an Ar 15 with a red dot is a straight forward and simple concept with an Ar 15. There are 2 easy methods to zero an ar 15 with a red dot. One method is very simple if you have traditional back up iron sights. The second method with an Ar 15 is a little more complicated but works well if you a running 45 degree offset back up sights or no back up iron sights with your red dot on your Ar 15.
I have to say out of all the technical videos I've watched and sighting in a red Dot this was the best explained video I've watched and this is the easiest way to do this
❤
Using a good bore sight laser is the easiest method. Just make the 2 red dots become one.
That will work too.
Wow dude you just made me understand it. Can I stick a kitty laser in the bore?
What’s the best bore sight laser?
That’s just to get it close, you still have to dial it in manually after. Bore sights don’t account for bullet drop. Laser comes out of the bore straight…bullets come out traveling in an arch shape, going up and then dropping back down by the time it gets to the target.
The laser method might get you on “paper”, (depending on the distance) but you’ll have to do some fine adjustments in the field to accurately sight-in the red dot/scope.
Well done. I have been instructing for years and your graphics and explanations are most excellent.
Very well explained and the simple paper props worked out perfect for visual aid!
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked it.
Ty for using the cut outs it really helped me understand
Sir, your visuals helped me understand method 1, ingenious! 🎉Thank you so much‼️
Thanks for watching
I seriously thought, "Why didn't I think of that?" when you showed the sightless zero technique. Awesome. And thank you.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching.
I love how you ended the Video. "God bless and guide America! Right on!!!
Thank you for watching and God Bless.
That was a great video! Did it with my ruger American ranch rifle took out the bolt and lined the dot with the barrel. Now off to the range to see where it hits thanks!!
Hope it works. I usually use at least 25 yards with this method. If you used a closer distance, I'd be curious if it works out for you.
Your idea with removing the bolt and charging handle is genius you Convinced me to subscribe by that alone Thank you very much
Thanks for sub and comment. more videos to come.
Thank You, this was very helpful to a new AR-15 owner.
Glad it was helpful
Done the first method, it was dead on!!
Awesome. Thanks for watching.
Good, simple, visual explanation. I used the second method yesterday. Good work🤙
Thanks for watching. Glad it worked for you.
Thanks! This will probably save me a few $ every time I zero in a new optic!
Another good video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
This channel should grow fast. Excellent content!
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed
Holy genius! That’s so easy!!
I use it even with my scopes at 100 yards. No need to buy a laser sight. Thanks.
I did it at night using a security light on a pole as the reference point. When you see the James Bond barrel rifling effect with your light at its center you center the dot on that same light.
Brilliant idea. I never heard of that before. Thanks for watching.
Great illustrations, good video, thanks
Thanks for watching. Hope it helped.
You've just made my life easier.
I'm glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
Great video man 👌🏽🎯🌎🇺🇸
Thank you. Hope it helped.
Good video. Helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video and thanks! How far away should the target be if I try the first method you mentioned?
I've done it from 25 yards to 100 yards, but I recommend 25 yards to start. It's a lot easier at that distance.
I do it the easy way bore lazer 50/200 target at ten yards in my house then hit the range. Also did u ever get a 1:7 upper to review if not I can send u my new fnh dmr II 18in upper and I also have a colt 16in carbine 1:7 upper as well so u can have a better comparison.
Working on a 1:7 and wow what a generous offer from you. I won't be able to get to the range for a few weeks, but if you email me, we might be able to work something out. Thanks for watching.
I like your videos very much!
Thank you. Subbed to your channel. I'll check your videos out.
@@PracticalAccuracy Thank you.
Lmfaooooooo love the PSA about the holographic red Dot 😂
Lol -thanks for watching
I want to have red dots and irons together. A flip up back up and fixed front. If I do a 1/3 should I zero the red dot and front sights only. Then turn of red dot to zero the back up and front?
Flip up the rear sight and then zero the iron sights. Then turn on the red dot and move the dot to the tip of the front sight. You can then fold down the rear sight and zero the red dot sight. Hope that helps.
Hey! You have a holographic sight in the thumbnail! (Just thought I'd point that out to you in the comments...)
*smirk😏
Love & appreciate your vids!!
Thanks, The Eotech sight picture just looked better for the Thumbnail.
@@PracticalAccuracy Agreed. Sometimes, "Sexy sells..." Lol
Great video, thanks
Thanks again.
Good video.
Thanks!
I had no idea about the sightless one thanks
Thank you! Excelent!
Thank you. I hope it helps.
Maybe I didn't understand but there's no way you put the bullseye through the barrel and the bullseye through the red dot together. You will get close to a correct windage alignment but vertical will be way off. The RED DOT should appear above the barrel image by the same amount as measured from center bore of rifle to center of optic. This will get you close if you have 25 yards of room at your house. Remember...gravity acts on the bullet once it leaves the barrel so the barrel has to be pointed somewhat "up". On an AR-15 with standard ammo, the bullet will hit the bullseye at 25 yards (going up) and at 100 yards (going down). This is a 25 yard zero. Many experts believe a "36 yard zero" is the most effective way to go.
The introooo though 💪
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
I got a red dot with a riser but the optic is slightly higher than my irons. How to fix that get a step smaller on the riser?
you can try or get 45 degree iron sights.
Could I use my laser pointer in Barrell align red dot take out laser ,shoot?
I haven't tried it, but would probably work.
💪🏼🔥💪🏼🔥 and i just got a sig romeo 5 💪🏼🔥💪🏼🔥
Awesome. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Am I crazy but shouldnt the distance be mentioned that the site was zeroed at? Is that paper on the wall 10, 25, 36 yds away?
it's 25 yards, but you can do it with whatever distance you like. The farther you go, the harder it gets to get close to your zero. Thanks for watching.
, I’ve used a RED dot and your right that and your thumbnail is not a red dot. 🔴. Still a good video though. Something went wrong with your at the beginning of the video. It S L O W E D way down. I thought initially my internet speed slowed again. Keep up the great work
Thanks for watching another video.
can I use this method for red dot sites on a gun that isnt AR 15?
You most certainly can. Thanks for watching
As long as you can pull the bolt and sight through the barrel. If you zero at further ranges do at 25 and then fine tune for your preferred range. Because the bullet travels in an arc and the red dot height over the bore you will have to adjust the elevation at longer ranges to make it perfect.
@@ErikS308 Good point. It would be hard to do on a lever action or shot gun. lol
Showed the same target for both methods.
I used the same target. One shot for one method. One shot for the second method. 2 shots total. both Methods close to each other.
You are 10 times welcome.
Thanks
25 yds seem a bit close, I always thought you were supposed to Zero at 75 to 100 yds
He showed us the exact same target twice. Compare 3:34 with 6:49. Did his second pair of shots go through the same holes made by his first pair? 😅
It is the same target. I took 1 shot with the first method, which landed closer to the middle of the target. I took 1 shot with the second method which landed further from the middle. 2 shots total, not 4 shots. Hopes this clarifies your confusion.

Easy way red lasser bore gage. now 5 feet from a wall. measure center to center of the bore to the red dot. Now were the lasser it pointing put a dot directly up the dimension you measured center to center. Now get red dot to align with that. Boom you will be on paper nothing flat. Now 100 yards you are going to have to make some adjustment.
