You shouldn't have to work around like this. Topaz needs to keep it simple. Life is too short.

The issue with the output being a TIFF versus a DNG was caused by TOPAZ deciding to add "color/lighting processing" for RAW files. For some reason with these features enabled the output cannot be a DNG. At this time these features cannot be disabled. This is supposed to be fixed in V3.0.2. I am at the last V2.x.x and waiting for this to be fixed.

I hate that they now put labels & processing status bars overlaid on my images - blocking content. The new UI settings panels are also too segregated and divided and requires too much clicking around. The old UI with its ease of moving between visible settings categories was better to work with; PAI is no longer efficient.

I find Topaz sharpening almost always does "too much" and looks unnatural. I usually cut the auto-pilot setting in half or so. Also, not a fan of upscaling as long as the image meets typical online size standards (2048 long edge for example).
The decision not to support raw/DNG from LR is a mystery and unfortunate!

Hi Anthony - Thanks! My usual workflow is that I do my editing in LRC first, than move the image over to Photo AI as a TIFF file. As of late, Photo AI running on autopilot, 7-8 times out of 10, Photo AI does not select Denoise, but only Sharpen, although there is a considerable amount of noise! How comes? Consequently, I have to manually select Denoise! I reached out to Topaz and have yet to hear back from them. Viewing your video just now, I just followed your workflow, i.e. open a NEF RAW in Photo AI, some cropping, upscaled, saved as a DNG. Then I imported that DNG into LRC, in order to do some editing as usual. To my surprise, if I want to apply lens correction (as usual) that is not possible. It did incorporate however, changes under structure and details. is that how it supposed to be, or? Yes, using Topaz has become cumbersome. Thanks again.

Thanks Anthony, this will help. Topaz Labs changes of late to Photo AI have been disappointing. The interface makes you hunt for options to do anything other than AutoPilot, the add/subtract brush is sticky and oh so slow. For me their product has fallen to a 5/10 simply for its usability.

Thanks for the video. Topaz made something simple more complicated. Although not as good LrC is now more appealing and finish off in Topaz Denoise. Definitely impacts on my M1 PRO’s performance. With this and other Ai updates in editing software it is making a Windows PC more attractive because of the ability to upgrade hardware. What RAM and specs generally should my next Mac choice be?

Thanks, Anthony for this video. I look forward to seeing your next video addressing portraits using Photo AI. For some reason, my portraits lose sharpening in the eyes / pupils. I have to select mask and then subtract from the mask. I'm not sure if you've noticed this on your end.

I just bought Topaz AI . I would like your opinion on, do you work on your photo first color correct ECT then go to AI to finish it. Crop then resize it. I remember you said if using Denoise don't crop it first but with AI 2024 it does it all ?? I use it as a stand-alone.

When I downloaded the latest version of Photoshop Beta (25.9) Generative Fill stopped working. Every time I tried to convert a picture to an Oil Painting or a Water Color, the three choices generated were blue swatches. I replaced that version with 25.8 and it is now working. Have others had the same problem?

Anthony, this isn’t about wildlife, but I’ve been trying to use onto photo ai for my recent eclipse photos but when I bring it from LR Classic, it automatically darkens the photo A LOT. If I do the noise reduction and/or sharpening and go back to LR, photo still very dark and I can’t get it back to original brightness no matter how much I play with exposure, highlights etc. Any ideas? Thanks.

To try and help here, more info is needed about what you're doing. How are you going from LrC to Photo AI? Are you using LrC's Edit In command, or opening the image directly in Photo AI (as Anthony suggests is the better way to go here with Raw images, to preserve the Raw format in DNG)? And what file format are you using in or sending to Photo AI? Camera Raw with no processing, Raw with LrC edits, or JPG, or other? Is any preset being applied when you import to LrC, or any preset or Basic adjustments being applied by you in LrC after import? (You can see this in the Develop > History section on the left in LrC; open that by clicking on the arrow if needed to show detailed History). If you Reply here, I or someone else will offer some suggestions, but right now, there are too many variables to give good guidance.

I'm going to file pug-in extras and process them with Topaz Photo Ai. Sometimes, I've done some LR editing, sometimes not. All files are Nikon NEF files. No preset seen in history. On my screen before importing, the lighting is perfect for what I want. Once in photo ai, it is almost dark as a coal mine and remains so after doing sharpening and/or noise reduction when it reappears in LR. Does the fact that much of the background is black since this is an eclipse photo, have anything to do with it? There's the sun, but the rest is black. I've tried using the exact same procedure on old NEF files and no problem.

    • @sounderdavis5446
      @sounderdavis5446 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@stephenkronwith9813 Possibly. I don't have a Raw image of an eclipse to try out, but eclipses represent extreme contrast, clearly, and it may be throwing Photo AI for a loop.
If in Photo AI you go in the top menu bar to Account > check for updates, it does say you are using the latest version, currently 3.01, yes?
I did try a couple of night sky Raw photos I'd taken, one an NEF and one a CRW (Canon Raw), going as you said above you did from LrC to Photo AI, and I didn't get your result. I didn't really like what Photo AI was doing with them (some odd color shifts others have complained about), but they weren't going pitch black in the background. I notice that after doing what you did, you get the chance in Photo AI to "Add Enhancements," one of which will "Adjust lighting." Are you using that? Can you try it? Does it help, hurt, no difference?
Does the same thing happen, getting pitch black background, if you Open the same NEF file in Photo AI, without coming from Lightroom first? (I suspect it will.) Topaz says they have not yet incorporated sending files from LrC to Photo AI with adjustments made in LrC; they say they're working on it, but not yet.

@@sounderdavis5446 I have the latest version. The funny thing is when I open Photo AI, it shows the before and after as it starts the initial processing, and the before is very dark. I don't see this on the partial phases of the eclipse, only the total, where so much is black, so that probably has something to do with it. But all coronal adjustments to make it brighter get lost. I tried to just run my sharpening and denoise before any LR edits, but when Photo Ai kicks it back to LR, the photo, with the Photo Ai edits, is darker and just doesn't brighten up as I'd like.
