@@muzikmanernie Old news now, but this inattention to detail is so typical, especially since most guys who do such jobs have truly horrendous communications skills. I'm about to replace the prop seals on a much smaller motor and have looked at several videos on the topic. Almost NO one says which way the seals should face, but in freezing the action and looking really closely at what different "experts" do (and for just a few of them, paying attention to what they say about this), it seems to be totally random. I looked at about ten different videos and saw three of the four possible arrangements of the seals being used by different people. I'm going to ask the guys at my local boat-repair shop.
seems like it skips a lot of details on the difficult parts - like removing the bearing carrier retainer, removing the seals from carrier. Do you really need to remove all those parts from the bearing carrier? Seems more geared to someone who wants to take it to mechanic rather than do it themself.
I have a 9.8 hp mercury outboard with way does the bearing carrier turn? Clockwise or counter clockwise? Also, when did you ge the special tool? Thanks RSVP TODAY
No wander some mechanics that took that class didn't learn anything.
for someone who DOES NOT KNOW,like me,an automotive mechanic,I DIDN?T SEE THE ALL IMPORTANT DETAILS; so,i moved on at 1:20...
this is professional terrible tutorial...i dont even know how the seals were facing

It would be nice if you had close up shots and something you could do in the backyard instead of in a shop

Why do you say that? I learnt how to put mercury oil on the seal and mercury grease on the shaft.

clockwise rotation
You just skipped right on past the part I needed to see.
Very easy to to work on hand tight, rust free components. Very little use from your video.
My gearbox is leaking from my Audi TT at the drive shaft and nearly DSG gearbox what can I change the seal someone help
Why can't I get the manual for my 3.2 V6 Audi TT mark 1
You CAN do this without special tools but.... which way do the seals FACE ?!?!? The only real questions NOT solved by a parts diagram.
Way too much work for the average person.
