- In this video we show you how to replace a Mercruiser Bravo 3 outdrive prop shaft seal. Our outdrive prop shaft seal lasted 19 years, and was leaking gear lube oil. In this video we'll show the problems we encountered changing our Mercruiser Bravo 3 prop shaft seal, and see what we found inside the Bearing Carrier! Our Mercruiser Bravo 3 outdrive has been very good to us, and it gave us 19 years of great service. Replacing our Mercruiser Bravo 3 outdrive Prop Shaft Seal was an 8 out of 10 in difficulty. We are not mechanics, and this is how we did it. Hope this video helps, and thanks for watching!

I’m about to try this on my 2000 bayliner 2855 with Bravo III. Thanks for making the video! Looks pretty straight forward, might spring for a new carrier assembly
Hi! Thanks so much for watching! Yes, its not too difficult, just take your time with it. Yes, I will probably replace my carrier next time I do this service. The last seal lasted 19 years..lol. Peace!

Hi Ramses! Thank you so much for your comment and support! We are happy to hear our videos helped you out. Brother Happy Boating! and Peace from the Keys!
Thanks so much for this video! Helped me right thru this job! Had issues like you did getting the seal carrier out of the thing! Man it took a lot of careful banging to get that thing out but I got it out and got the new one back in the same way you did! I would also recommend replacing the O-ring as well which I did. Thanks again great video!
Hi Chris! Glad this video helped! Yes, the o-ring should be changed also, just did not have it when I did the job. Thanks so much for watching Bro! Peace!
Great work and great video. Your Bravo 3 is in excellent shape as well as your bearing carrier. You're the exception not the rule. Obviously you took great care of it.....good to replace that rubber O ring in the aft section of the bearing carrier.
Hi Mark, Thanks Bro! Yes, I just did not have it, but I will be replacing it soon. Thanks so much for you comment and support! Blessings! Peace!
Awsome Video........ Well done!!!
Hi Michael, Thanks so much for watching our video! Thanks! Peace from the Keys!
Great job on your tutorial. I am tackling this repair next. I just keep adding gear lube for now, but at $20 a quart, it gets old fast!
Hi! Same thing with mine, since I did the replacement no more adding lube oil and monitor alarm going off. Thanks so much for watching our video! Happy Boating! Peace from the Keys!
Just did mine today!!
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching our video! It's been several months since I did mine, and it's working great. Peace from the Keys!

Fantastic channel brother...the Keys look amazing and I might just retire there after seeing your channel. I just purchased a 2006 Bayliner 285 so I've watched all of your maintenance vids. I'm in Chicago so I'll be cruising Lake Michigan. We don't have sandbars like you do :(
Hi Felix! Thanks so much for your support, Bro! After owning my 285 for 18 years, I still love it. Hope to have you as a neighbor in the Keys. Enjoy your 285 Brother, Happy Boating! Peace!
Good job captain
Thanks for watching! Peace!
Some heat helps to get the restrainer and bearing carrier off. Also so does soaking with Kroil or other better penetrating oil . The heat makes a huge difference
Hi! Thanks for watching! Yes, this is great info that can help everyone doing this service. Thanks for your comment. Peace from the Keys!

Hi Glenn, Thanks so much for watching our video! Thanks! Peace from the Keys!
Great Video. What is that metal bar on the side of the outdrive? is that to protect it?
It's a drive shower. Sprays water on the top side of the drive to cool it
Great video and instructions, did you have replace what looked like a o-ring on the outside of the seal carrier or is it unimportant?
Hi Michael, thanks for your comment. We reused the same one on there, but may change it on my next prop service. It looked in good
shape no nicks, or cracks, we did removed it to clean out all of the broken pieces of shells. So far its working great. Thanks for watching! Peace!
Its very important since it keeps the water out and oil in. I replaced mine its about $1.25 for the OEM O ring.
Did you have any issues with removing the screw at the bottom of drive to drain oil? Mine seems very stuck. Thanks for the video
Hi, thanks for your comment and watching our video! No never had any problems with the drain screw. But to make it easy to remove, just put a good size screwdriver and tap it a few times with a hammer and then try turning it... this always works for me. Thanks! Peace!
You can send tool part number oil seal removing tool
