May I ask what price range does one of these homes cost? I just retired from Ramstein and Sigonella. Loving Asia. Take care Joe & Gift.
At today’s exchange rate approximately $245K USD fully furnished. Unfurnished would be cheaper of course. IMO, all the counter tops need to be built higher 90cm would be a perfect height. I would also choose my own furnishings and also add more electrical outlets. Just my opinion, as we already had our home build in PKK by JJ and his team.

That is correct! Half of our electric bill is the cost of maintaining the pool 90% of the time.

Joe, can you tell me, how would it be for a single women to live in the area that you both live? I love Thailand visited once but did not see much due to having back surgery there. I was a US Diplomat at the time. But I want to come to your area with other expats.
Honestly, it would depend on your lifestyle and needs. I would say a good starting point would be $1,500 USD. Some people need more and some less. Recommend you come live in PKK for about 2 months and see if it is for you. The recommended $1,500 is for living purposes only, and is less than the Thai immigration financial requirements for visa purposes.

One month running 2 AC ‘s most the time and our pool pump 8 hours a day 7 days a week.
Nope don’t regret it no headaches now and you can travel anywhere you want. Pay as you go. Invest the money in the stock market it’s booming now. Collect dividends.

When are you to getting married?
Look on the bright side guys, you have friends and connections with JJ so you guys can always spend a weekend there from time to time. The modern cottage is cool 😎 👌. Jj and his crew did a hell of a job fixing up the joint 👏. Oh and Ms. Gift is cute as usual cause certain things she does mimic Ta in so many ways. They're absolutely adorable at times. Guess that's why we love our ladies so much !
Did you pay a dowry Sinsot? I'm not asking how much, that would be rude. Just curious, because many guys pay it, and I can't get my head around someone from the west doing so. You'll probably think this is a rude question, but Thais would literally ask your wife outright how much did you pay......Even most Thai guys are against this custom these days, or they get the money handed back to them the next day after the wedding.
No worries 😉 I don’t mind answering. Gift and I are not yet married. When we do marry, I will not be paying a dowry as Gift’s mom doesn’t want one. In saying this, dowry is an old Thai tradition and many still offer a dowry today. Some dowry’s are for symbolic purposes only and after the wedding the money is often returned to the groom and his family, as you stated in your comment. The reason for the dowry is often the daughter/s take care of their parents when they can no longer work, and for most, the social security system in Thailand may pay as little 1,000 baht ($30 USD) a month if that. When the daughter marries, that support for the elderly parent/s also goes away, hence the purpose of the dowry. In Thailand the family comes first in most cases, therefore, when marring a Thai one must understand and respect the responsibility that comes with marrying a Thai lady.
@@thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774some very good points raised re: western / partially funded social care system vs a more private based system. In UK the public sector, who provide some of the care, many are facing bankruptcy and having to take loans to stay afloat given the amount of Govt support made available. I’m not saying one or the other is right, but having strong family values and thinking about the future has some merit to it.
