No it's actually reall dumb. Cause if you know anything about knives you would know that the higher carbon content the softer it will be = more durabbility. But it will lose edge fast. While harder knives have more edge but break easier and are not as bendable. So all this test really shows is that cheap knives (which usually have cheaper carbon steel) will be more durable 🤣😂

Even people loathing Gerber for some obscure internet snobbery are forced to admit that the Prodidgy and the Strongarm are incredibly good knives at an affordable price. They cut well and they are tougher than far more expensive blades. In fact, they put many brands to shame 😅
I've owned 2 prodigies and that is souly because I lost the first one while drunk came back and bought a nothef one I'm not disappointed with it great knife and puts my damn Kabar to shame and I paid damn good money for it

I'm not even a halfway through the video and I'm shocked at how much punishment this thing is taking. I have a Strongarm, and while I would never subject it to this kind of abuse (because I can't afford to do that to my knives), it's really reassuring to know how strong it actually is.
Until it finally snapped I could've still fixed this knife, and when it did, I wished it hadn't. Makes me very confidant in the one I own myself. Awesome video!
That's Gerber's best knife, It feels cheap. the steel is very soft and the bevels both main (thick behind the edge bevel) and the (uneven)edge are really poorly made and the materials are cheap, however, the design is robust and the sheath, is suprisingly good and super versatile! Clever marketing, decent knife for it's purpose.
@@starpooper1681 I've seen Leathermans and both of my strongarms roll their edges, when I have never seen a steel roll that easy and I've bee through most soft steels, even suposedly softer than that. That's why they gave the Strongarm that super thick edge and geometry overall, it's too soft, to withstand any medium especially hard use. It's the softest steel I know on any knife. Gerber on the Strongarm, has a nitecably better heat treatment, than Leatherman, but it still is the same super soft steel. I didn't mention that I'm a metallurgist since 1995... because it's useless. Nowadays People have lost their logic to understand anything and egoism makes things even worse, on that matter/ That's not personal, that's a general observation..
This test changed my mind about some of the Gerber products. Thank you doing this. I decided to go with the Prodigy mainly for ergonomics. Great farm task knife.
Yea just watch out for it getting duller quicker, cause that's what ya do with a knife is cut not beat it to shit and in that regard a softer cheaper metal is always gonna lose sharpness quicker than these super steels but are more durable less brittle

With modern metallurgy and heat treat, the budget steels of today are pretty darn good. Hell, s30v D2, bg42 154cm, all were once supersteels. Now people call them budget. In 20 years, magnacut will be considered a mid to low choice. And 420HC will still be slicing away.
It is literally a sharpened pry bar. Glad i bought 5 (2 in BDZ1 steel) when it was on sale at walmart for $42/knife. Brought 1 with me in Iraq and Afghanistan while working as a military contractor and used it daily and it's awesome. You can never go wrong with this knife. I got knives in supersteel but when shit hits the fan and i can only bring 1 knife, this is definitely the one knife imma take with me
@@joex I got one in my truck and 1 in my go bag. Price for these things have gone up over the years especially BDZ1 version, it sells for premium at ebay so it's a good investment
Gerber strongarm is one of the most incredible in the industry of utility and survival military knives, light, compact, a simple but very well elaborated sheath, a very small price for extreme results than most survival knives several times its price can't compete with it...

As a kid I had the bear grylls knife, I think it was pretty much the same blade with a different grip. Was a Great knife and I beat the shit out of it for years. Never broke but I think my mom ended up donating my gear when I moved away for college.

Prodigy is great. I have a prodigy and a strongarm. The only real differences are the sheath and handle ergonomics, and partial serration. Other than that they're essentially the same knives. I'm actually more partial to my prodigy than my strongarm
I worked the edge of the blade with the worksharp just with the straps on all my strongarms and the convex obtained is magnificent on all they are all perfect for real boushcraft use...
Just got my knock off from Amazon. Didn't know Amazon sold knockoff knives. Sent back. Sucks. I've collected Gerbers from early 1980's through about 1993. I don't want a knockoff. My fault. $50. I should have known. They are getting better with this knock-off. Changed a few things but still easy to tell. Never again Amazon.
That gerber strong arm is the only other brand of knife I have other then cold steel. I carry it on my plate carrier. Bought it because of the sheath, glad to see how tough that knife is.
Gotta admit, the tip retention test u put this knife through and the knife not snapping was pretty impressive, sure it eventually bent and broke but definitely impressive overall. - I own the Gerber Prodigy and I love it.

I have such a knife, very durable, but after five years the handle became very sticky. I had to wrap it with duct tape. Good luck in the development of the channel!
I have this knife and tbh I was somewhat doubtful it would last super long against your seemingly unbeatable destruction test and I will humbly admit I apologize to gerber for the doubt and I am soooo happy I purchased this knife a while back and tbh I have never had a bad experience with my knife
Same here, other than the Strongarm, there's been nothing I've been interested in at all for years. Now if Gerber keeps making knives like the Strongarm and perhaps some different practical steel options as well, ((without over charging like most companies)) they'll definitely sell more and be in the mix at the top.

I have such a knife, very durable, but after five years the handle became very sticky. I had to wrap it with duct tape. Good luck in the development of the channel!

I have this knife and tbh I was somewhat doubtful it would last super long against your seemingly unbeatable destruction test and I will humbly admit I apologize to gerber for the doubt and I am soooo happy I purchased this knife a while back and tbh I have never had a bad experience with my knife

Same here, other than the Strongarm, there's been nothing I've been interested in at all for years. Now if Gerber keeps making knives like the Strongarm and perhaps some different practical steel options as well, ((without over charging like most companies)) they'll definitely sell more and be in the mix at the top.
I absolutely hate Gerber knives but this is impressive.

I have one of these too lol,,my only problem with this knife is the edge thickness,, I had to reshape it in order to get a good cutting edge.
but it is Zombie proofed!
