I dunno man, the results of this test are completely different than the older Mora Joe tested. Maybe they *were* the best knives for the money, but not any more.
Nothing can beat MORA. Cheap, light, strong, sharp and ergonomic. I respect spending money on a pretty knife. Everyone wants to own a beautiful thing. I also collect knives. But if someone asks for [the best knife], it's MORA. Never disappoints. It's not cost-effective. It's even better compared to a more expensive knife.
That tang bend easier than expected. Would there be a difference in the heat treat sometimes.. I know you did two video's on two Mora Companion's HD stainless. One black handle, the other, orange black. They 'acted' differently also under bending stress. Black bent , orange black broke at the blade. I still favor the Mora . It's excellent. I also notice that th Mora Companion HD 3.2mm thickness, is much more resilient, resisting bending, than the regular Mora Companion, carbon 2mm thickness also stainless 2.5mm thickness. The pro Robust 3.2mm, is most resistent to bending. It being shorter helps ofcourse. In the end all knives can be fu'ed up.
Not bad for 20 euros and does seem to hold an edge. Another good destruction test, done by a master of chaos. I must point out the lack of a water test. Dropping into water is high-point of the video.
any chance to review the bacho 2449 wrecking knife? 4mm sk5 steel marketed for wrecking and hard use construction knife...distribution seems spotty though
@@joex Sure....it was probably a viewer who thinks you actually have the time or will to want too just test any old arbitrary blade for minimal views......im sure you have better things to do with your time
Hi Joe X, great review as always. I've seen you break the tips off of blades that cost multiple times more than this Mora Companion. This one bent back and forth numerous times before it finally broke. It just goes to show that you can get great quality for not a ton of money. If you do "knife" things with a knife, even a rat tail tang is ok. I also just saw the short where you were almost crushed by a falling tree. Glad you're ok and thank you for these entertaining and informative videos!
I love your reviews just because we get to see how long these knives last under SERIOUS abuse (which i think is what a lot of people want to put their knives through but are too scared too) thanks for the great reviews!
On the bright side, the tang bending instead of breaking, will keep your hand out of the blades way. I have one in my woodworking kit. And now I feel a bit safer using it.
Hi! I haven't watched your movies for a long time. MORA's knives are very good, I have 5 different pieces, the main thing is sharp at once, otherwise you can buy a knife and it's blunt as a cleaver, although I sharpen the knives myself not badly. Well, thank the translator!!!
Nice little utility knife. Not a choper for sure. However I'd take the Hultafors heavy duty, over the Mora, anytime of the day. It's cheaper and way more durable at the handle.
Yo i have the MORA Garberg its a really exceptional knife its full tang in a way, still it does its job. Just keep it oiled up, i have no issues only spot rust but thats to be expected.
Joe x needs a sponsorship from mora knives. This is the best durability test ever. If you planned on buying a mora? The time is now. Companies normally send out a bad batch that will come out probably next year. Then raise the price. The time is now!!!!
I got the orange one and i loved it until i got my QSP Canary full size. The micarta is nicer and the Cr8Mo2VSi seems really great. It is chinese sleipner
Hello Joe, thank you for your hard work, you are great! About morakniv.... I don't think that this knife is bad... You need to test one more or another two carbon steel heavy duty companions knife to know for sure is it new generation of tempering failing process or it is just on e bad knife from other knives...
1095 and 1095 equivalent is the king of steel. It's the perfect steel. It's got everything, toughness, edge retention, affordability, availability, and ease of sharpening.
Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Virtuovice, the Japanese youtuber who knows a lot about knives, say that companion is a really good fisher knife? I have to admit that I have used a normal Companion as a kitchen knife for about a year now. It has needed one sharpening within that time period and has microchips visible by naked eye. I really like the handle and ergos, and have had no issues cutting meat, onions and other stuff with it, about as fast as if I used a normal kitchen knife. If anyone reads this I dare you to try one out for a week, it's more handy in kitchen than one would expect. And when it's time comes, I will think it was 8 euros well spent. If I go to cook by bonfire, I prefer Ahti Leuku + Terävä Skrama instead. Ahti is a lot better at feathersticking than Mora Companion and that's why I prefer it over Companion there.
They mass-produce these by the thousands. The design is good, as is the carbon steel and construction. So, the price is very low and the value received is excellent. But if you want a knife for more heavy-duty use, look elsewhere, and spend more. There are a lot of options which are not very expensive. The Mora is so inexpensive you can almost consider it to be a throw-away knife. Buy more than one and don't worry about breaking or losing it. But it would be wise to oil the blade regularly. But don't rely on it as your only knife for use in the wild.
Cody Lundin has the Mora #1 for 33 plus years, and is still going strong. Mora is plenty . You just need to use your most important survival tool well, your brain.
@@Ve-suvius There are some tasks for which the brain isn't a sufficient substitute for an appropriate knife. E.g. felling a tree (without an axe) or hollowing out a log to make a canoe. the plastic handle absorbe most of the shock from the the brick and iron rod test plus it was loose so it absorbe more . same steel real fuul tang would have broke
These cheap 1/8th inch thick, 3.5-4 inch long scandi knives seem to be in a really good sweet spot for toughness and functionality. One with a full tang would be nearly indestructible.
The strength of the tang is pretty disappointing. Clearly that's a differential heat treat, leading to a weak tang. Ideally they would either change the HT to put "some" hardness in the tang or make the tang a lot thicker.
It seems that this particular Mora is heat-treated softer. In the car stabbing the tip dulled where the other Mora's did not. It would be interesting to see another companion hd doing the same test. He also did test two Companion hd stainless. The results were also different.
