These controllers were definitely made with the intention for no one to ever open them up after they were sold. Tutorial much appreciated and definitely needed!
Imagine not being able to change your car tires without owning a wrench only the company itself sells for a lot of money. Corporate greed at its finest
@@doktorsljukex4174 the triggers are also designed very poorly. they often break because of a small millimeter long sponge pad getting pushed off a ledge. it's ridiculous.
yes i do agreed + i lose two motors bec of low quality wires.
@@doktorsljukex4174 are u troll ?? u will lose motors if u open xbox one controller bec of the wires are low quality
What are you even talking about, nothing's wrong with these controllers, If you've taken apart electronics for once in your life, you'd find this process to be pretty easy, only the plastic parts are a bit annoying, otherwise it's pretty simple stuff.
I think I'm gonna sit and cry for the next 72 hours now. Reassembled almost everything, got the hardest parts behind me. Just seen the Bluetooth connect button laying around.
😂 hang in there
I did the same exact thing
I forgot the d-pad
This video saved my butt, I has half way through taking my controller apart and tried pulling the buttons out. When they wouldn't come I decided to look it up and here I am. THANKS!
this is what youtube is supposed to be about
I disassembled mine in 10 seconds the floor is a really fast way
Real
Facts
Floor works just as good as the wall 😅
Source: trust me bro
@@ItsyourboyPenguinboytheir source is spiking it to the floor dude
Little component on the board where the wire connects to the other board broke off really easy, tried tugging hard on the other one to replicate and it stayed on. These companies cheap out on solder, use the least amount of solder as possible to save money and as soon as years go by they degrade and become weak. Ah well can't complain, had the controller for more than 2 years now with heavy use. Great tutorial by the way, straight to the point and clear
Yeah mine broke lol was brand new controller. Was tryna change buttons.
Do you know what they do?
I feel like the people who disliked this video ruined their control
Yeah I've messed my headphone jack after changing a few things. Can still hear the game when I plug headset into controller. But not able to talk to anyone anymore 😅
Or doesn’t have that security driver
My a and x button dont work its my last hope so idc
Probably Ponies that are mad cos their controllers aren't as simple
I cut 4 cables but the tutorial is good and i left a like
Extremely helpful! X button was sticking and a little cleaning did the trick. Feeling super self reliant right now, appreciate you.
Did you tear down the whole controller or is it enough to just remove the cover to clean the a x b y Buttons?
@@luisjunk5619 I was able to remove just the main cover and you have full access to the buttons - cleaned them with just a mini brush and it worked great after. No need for a full breakdown. Hope you got yours working. My X button was also sticking same with screen shot button. Cheers! 👍🍻
I also need to do this as my x is sticking too. Did you remove the palm pads and the 5 screws to get access to the buttons?
Good to hear! I spilled a little bit of soda over it and the B button is now sticky.. I don't want to break the whole thing open, just enough for the buttons.
Lol, my x button was sticking too. Almost made me delete one of my weapons on destiny on accident, so I figured I'd do this becsuse a bit of alcohol around the button itself didn't last. I took the whole thing apart for thr experience. Kinda fun, but definitely more intricate compared 5o previous versions. We'll see how long this lasts, as I just finished.
This is a fantastic tutorial. Incredibly useful. No vamping, great lighting, good video, clear explanations. My thumbstick is having issues so I wanted to open it up to take a look. I'm hopeful I can repair it.
stick drift?
@@fuglid1n041 probably the most likely issue he has
@@fuglid1n041 how can you fix that?

@@ptitserpent thank you
Bro I had went to my local hardware store (Home Depot) and bought a screw set and I had take apart my controller bc my son messed up the right stick 🤦🏾♂️ came across your video man thanks a lot
Sorry for messing up the stick dad

Same i messed mine up but it was easy to fix
This is why I’m not having kids...
Expertly explained! I bought a full cosmetic replacement kit for starfield and had no idea how to do this but you made it a piece of cake. Thank you!
Thank you! You saved me from buying a new controller. I had no issue disassembling, instructions are pretty clear
I've come back to this video about 5 times in the past month because I was swapping out parts in some broken limited edition controllers and put parts from new standard controllers in. Very good video!
Super useful. Had a trigger that was sticking and the tear down and rebuild in high quality came in clutch, thank you!
Just finished taking apart the whole controller and got a good cleaning done. Thanks alot for the video! It helped greatly and you were easy to follow. No more sticky buttons for me 😁
Same! Had to take it apart just to clean the darn X button just cleaned it all,
@@bassimprovjams3772 same haha I literally only needed to clean under the X button.
@@colesherman9060 lol the whole controller works like a charm now tho!
did you use the T8 security or FH and normal T8?
DUDE! Great tutorial! This is the first time I've taken an Xbox One controller apart for cleaning without having to repair it with a soldering iron. (Well, Xbox Series X controller but same thing really.)
Thank you so much! I was attempting to fix my right joystick and messed up my controller even worse then i saw this video and it fixed both problems.
Saved me the trouble of getting a new controller. Thank you for the effort you put into this.
I lacked those fancy schmancy tweezers & had to cheat on parts of it with the flat tip screwdriver part of my little skinny computer dual plus tip & flat tip screwdriver to compensate & at the part of the reassembly having to plug those 2 black wires with those seriously tiny heads back in, had only my big fat clumsy butterfingered sausage fingers & still managed to follow this Vid & thanks to you, get my Controller disassembled & reassembled enough to replace the padding for my A B X Y Start Select Screenshot xBox Buttons to fix a mushy A Button!
Thank you so much for this Vid! This was my first of your Vids I ever watched & ya already earned your Subscribe! :D
P.S. We TH-camrs are prone to Liking & Subscribing peeps & content we like & don't tend to need to be asked to first before we do it. :P
THANK YOU! My controller I working brand new again. Spilled some beer over it yesterday. Your tutorial saved me 60€ for a new one.
Required tools:
-Mini flat head screwdriver
-Security T8 screwdriver or regular T8 screwdriver
-T6 screwdriver
-Prying tool or can use mini flat head screwdriver
-Patience (more of a skill than a tool though)
I am terribly bad at fixing things that require micro tools and focus, but I did it, this video helped me a lot, you’re a legend!
I used your old guide and it worked just fine. I did have a lot harder time getting the top board unwedged. Thanks for updating it, just finished fixing mine and saw this.
How any anyone dislike this? Very informative and detailed. Spent his time to show us how to take it apart and some people have the audacity to dislike? Scummy people I swear
Fixed my controller thanks to your vid, saved me 80 euros. Thanks a lot dude!
This was such a useful tutorial, thank you! I'd been looking at other videos to try and get my controller apart to repair (spilt water on it and the Xbox button is firing without me pressing it) but this is the only video I could find that properly explains the steps. Unfortunately, my controller still isn't working properly, but I'm pretty sure I know what's causing the issue now so I'll definitely be coming back to this video when I try again to fix it :)
We're the 10% that has been lucky enough to get a series X already, and yet we all here because Mr. Controller had to meet Professor Wall😕
It took so long to find someone who covers the reassembly. Thanks.
What I found out is that if I take a flathead scewdriver and try to use it on those security screws it unscrews it, but if you try harder it rips the middle part out of the screw and makes those screws no longer security ones.
3 years and it's still helping, huge props brother this is the best teardown and reassemble video I have watched since TH-cam first went online , ur str8 to the point music playing in the background just at the right level and very informative on the tools , I subed and liked , thanks mate
This is a life saver i had 2 stick buttons and like you did i took it apparently and i cleaned them and i putted them back like you told me and nothing is broken everything is perfectly working thank you😁👍
Microsoft unfortunately made it impossible for me to fix my controller until I get money for Christmas yay me
did you use the T8 security or FH and normal T8?
Great video. I've seen some that go through too fast and don't tell you what they're doing .But I found this very easy to understand and a great step by step video. Thank you.
SUCCESS!! Thank you! This video helped me out so much!! My wife accidentally spilled wine all over my new Starfield controller and the buttons were so sticky I was forced to go inside and do a thorough cleaning!!!
Hey dude, thanks for the great video! I accidentally spilled some liquid on my controllers, and i was able to save them with this! you saved me a bunch of money. Great informative video, much better than the other ones out there! Keep it up!
Same here. I fixed my controller when I spilled tea on it. Whoops...
Electronics can be soaked in a tub full of water. As long as you do not turn them on while they can be salvaged. Too many people think "wet = death" and shell out money for replacements that they don't need to waste money on.
how did you fix it after spilling said liquid on?
yup just spilled coffee a lil on mine last night so im here
did you use the T8 security or FH and normal T8?
Thank you!!! My kid dropped his controller and the right stick popped off the internal control. Opened it up, slipped the stick back into place and closed it back up. Good as new. Thanks again.
Thank you for this! I wanted to swap white XYAB buttons from another controller and this got me there no problem. Shell, d pad and sticks are black, bumpers, triggers and XYAB buttons are white. Finally! It looks fantastic.
This really helped. I just needed to see how to pull it apart to the bumpers. I’m sure the rest of the video was great. I had “mush trigger” on my right bumper and I assumed because of occasional dropping along with having strong fingers, the small prong (that Xbox continues to use) snapped off into the controller. It wasn’t fun playing for honor and all of a sudden I couldn’t do light attacks. I took it apart, crazy glued the piece back on, and wrapped both prongs with a small cut piece of electric tape to strengthen them and it all works, you saved me a controller.
Much appreciated man, fully help my cause, I left the alkaline batteries in the controller stored for a few months unused and they spilled obviously causing it to think that both A, Y and right D pad were always engaged/pressed , I took it apart thanks to this video tutorial and cleaned it. Is working now. Cheers.
Thank you so much I really needed this to clean the buttons after I spilt something on it. Now it works good as new!
Thanks, helped alot. my kids spilled sirop on mine and had to open it to clean it all up. all good now.
Great... having to dismantle the entire device, and very carefully, just to clean a button that got slightly soiled, what a pleasure... I really hate those manufacturers who make the repair and maintenance of their devices so complicated, it’s unbearable. And don't tell me that it's easy, because it could be much, much easier ; They complicate it on purpose. /rant ( Thanks for the tuto, btw ! )
Thank you so much this helped me from getting a new controller
I bought two of these at a second hand store. One works and one doesn't. I have 4 more days to disassemble till I gotta try and return. Thanks!
Def gonna wait for Wednesday since my hands hurt a ton
Great video. Just one note, peeling back the sticker can be done with a plastic pry tool. Keep the tool flat, and push back the sticker slightly to lift the corner. Put the tool under the lifted corner, and pinch it against your thumb, etc. Pull it back just enough to reveal the screw.
Everything went back together great, and no real sign of opening the unit. Only a tiny bit of sticker was harmed. I doubt anyone would notice.
Cheers!
Thanks for the tutorial. I disassembled and cleaned a dark stain with modified alcohol which was on the printed cardboard as only the joysticks were still working. And now it works totally fine!
Thanks for making this video! I was changing out some of the buttons and needed to replace the small bumpers to. The right small bumper was not being picked up, it only read it when I pressed hard on it. But now it’s fixed thank god!
wow, ive had a controller for 9 years and finnaly got this after it broke and the insides look so fkn clean and very easy to disassemble
You're a lifesaver, bruh. I had a trigger sticking and you helped me with this video
Like an ass I dropped soda on the controller and the right bumper and three buttons were sticky but with ur video I took it apart fully and cleaned out the whole controller. Now its working like new. You got a sub and a thumbs up for me thank u so much
This was so helpful. I had no idea there was a screw under the battery sticker.
Be careful about the sticker though. Don't put your screwdriver through the sticker. Just peel it back. If you put the screwdriver through you'll void the warranty
@@VonJay If they also see broken screws, that’ll also void your warranty. I think…
@@VonJay warranty sticker's are illegal so you could fight that
@@Hellraiser988 they don't want you to open the controller so putting a screwdriver through the sticker is all they need. Idk if sticker warranties are illegal but if it is then they can claim anything outside of that with that proof alone
@@VonJay wrong in the US at a federal level it's not exactly legal and they can not restrict your right to your warranty something that an exception is adding LEDs for example but something like upgrading a HDD to an SSD isn't illegal at all and they can't and have no right to do as such if they try it you can bring your proof to court and chances are you will win
You're a life saver. This has got to be thje most complex controller breakdown i have ever done. i do not care to do it again anytime soon.
All of this work because my Squirrel dumped my OJ everywhere and i ended up with sticky buttons.
thanks, my RB button was malfunctioning.. and it was that pointy thing below your right thumb 6:50 it was broke on my controller, so I replaced it with a rolled paper to "simulate" it's function.. that thing worked like a charm 😆 no problems while gaming
Brand new controller and spilled a giant glass of coffee directly on it by accident. Thanks for this.
My original Xbox one controller that I’ve had for 9 or so years now is finally starting to get some decent wear but I didn’t wanna purchase a whole new controller, ordered a rebuild kit on Amazon to replace every part for sake of ease and I’m gonna tackle this on Tuesday. Thanks for the video
This video was invaluable at 11:30pm when I decided to drop my controller into a bowl of water. Managed to disassemble and reassemble without issue!!
To the person who made this video,
I hope you're alive and well, just used this video to fix my Xbox Controller. Thank you for your contribution 💯
I kind of left my controller sitting on top of the couch and my cat knocked it onto the baseboard heater and melted the front of it so the d-pad and guide button are jacked up. But just glancing through this video taught me how to take the controller apart. Excellent. Good thing I got a second white one lol
Thanks for this tutorial. My brother came to me with an entirely disassembled controller so I'm glad for an assembly guide.
Thanks so much for the amazing video! My kid spilled syrup all over the controller and this vid helped me save having to buy a whole new controller. Just bought a T8 security screwdriver and followed the video and cleaned it out. Put it back together and it works great! Thanks again!
I need to buy one aswell. What size did you buy or are they all the same?
@@jakepearce5128 I bought a set on amazon that included many sizes. It was actually the same price as buying a single screwdriver hehe.
I can't begin to express my gratitude for this vid. I would have never pushed on after unplugging the sticks board cause I was sure I broke it but it turned out fine! Thanks man 👍
This video helped one of my joysticks popped out of place and i popped it back juts by taking the screws out and taking the front cover off. Helped me so much!
Golly, I just woke up from sleepwalking again and found a disassembled Xbox Series X controller in front of me, luckly it just so happens that you have posted this video on reassembling the controller... Thx °~°
I bought the Electric Volt buttons, D pad and Thumb sticks - my white “S” controller now looks very green 😀, thanks for the tutorial.
when you put this back together it is simple after that I took mine apart 3 or 4 times to clean it properly because my buttons were getting stuck. works good now
After downing three cans of monster, drinking some ethyl alcohol and re-watching this tutorial for the third time I can confirm that this does not damage your controller if you are careful, I just performed a full clean of my controller and it works perfectly
Not even 4 minutes into your video and it’s already helped me immensely, thank you so much 🙏🏽
Thank you! Just made 1 working controller out of two broken ones :) all i needed haha. Now i have 3 controllers instead of 3 broken and 2 working
this video is so helpful. The Xbox controller is so much more difficult to mod than a PS4 controller so thank you.
Currently have a stick drift Issue. I have taken my controller apart thanks to this kinda mans video and replaced the little black piece that goes into the green pieces on the analog sticks. Unfortunately didnt work but thats to this video I could actually put my controller apart and back together without breaking anything so W video.
Thanks man my joystick just like came off somehow so this helped
Same
same
Same
Mine did too
Actually fixed it!
I can't tell you how useful this video was for me, thanks for making it. Have a good one.
Had a late night paddy at my controller thought I'd screwed it for good, followed the teardown n fixed it straight away. Many thanks!
Thank you so much . I open my controller and the mic fell off . With your help i was able to find the place and close it .
Got a series s used. The controller was gross and stained, so I put a third party transparent shell on it. This was very helpful, thank you!
Great video, my LB wasn't working so I wanted to see if I could fix it. When I took off the bumpers, the little plastic extension that presses the button fell out and I thought I broke something, but I was able to superglue it back and it works perfectly now. :)
Thats what im doing atm
This is literally what I’m doing.
@@henrydeluxe4051 how do you do it?
@@DylanHardwickkMusic mines broken so I’m ordering one on Amazon to put back in. I’ll use this video to remind myself. I’d do the same.
had the same issue. Just fixed it. Works fine now
I can’t believe I use to do this back on 360 controllers, I’ve watched this video because I do kinda need to take a couple controllers apart to fix one for the bumpers and maybe another for the dpad. But after watching this I just feel like I can’t be arsed lol.
Thanks for the help man! Was able to swap out my buttons and triggers, was going to pay to have someone do it, but with this video I was able to do it myself. Much appreciated!
Thank you! Brother had spilled some drink and buttons got sticky. This video helped me take care of it. 💯
I spilled some soda on my controller and got it all sticky, this really helped me to get it cleaned :D
Good video. Had a drift in my right stick (yes I tried rubbing alcohol) winded up taking the stick out to clean it more thoroughly and it's good now. Thanks again.
It showed a better way to remove and replace than other videos. Thanks!
Goo Gone and key board lubricant don't belong in the x button...... I've never had button stick on EVERY BUTTON. That's what I get for being lazy lol thank you 🙏
Bro same thing happened to me.... i put contact cleaner to clean inside lazily then the X and Y button jammed.... i followed the tutorial and Boom fixed... i think the liquid misaligned the button and padding somehow
Fun fact you can just align a small normal screwdriver on the pin of the security screw and whack the end of the screwdriver a few times and it should break the pin off, worked for me
Thanks for tutorial! Now my buttons work perfectly.
FR?
1 year later and you’re still helping people just put a colored sticker over my led light to make it purple it looks sick
Thanks! My kid spilled soda in his controller, now it's as good as new
Thank you so much, my controller had a sticky / spongey issue and I was able to find out the issue by opening it up, you da goat dog thank you once more ❤
Helpful video, thank you! Our dog knocked over a coke and a big drip of it went behind the B button, worked okay but very sticky and would occasionally stick down mid game. This tear down got me into it, got it cleaned and returned to working order in about 20 mins. Not bad for a first attempt I think!
did you use the T8 security or FH and normal T8?

Any chance I can just remove the front with a pry tool, I wanna clean my bumpers because they don’t click like they used to?? I don’t have the torq 8 security screwdriver
Thanks, the audio jack snapped and this was the only way to remove the broken bit stuck in the controller
Refer this video to replace sticks to metal ones very quickly. Thanks for sharing!
21:00 Thank you so much! I spent a bit of time trying to figure out why the left trigger was weird, it turns out the connector for the battery wasn’t lined up. Thank you!

Thank you very much, this helped me to fix my controller in no time. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you for this, I needed to get inside and clean it after spilling juice on my controller making the buttons sticky. This was very well explained and clear to watch!
Thanks for the video. I just swaped parts from a new controller that wasn’t working(which was the one that came with my xbox) so I swapped the part inside of it to my old one and made my old one be new now 😎
Buddy recently reskinned his controller and it made me want to (for cheaper than buying a new one) and this video is going to get me through that when my new shell and buttons arrive in. Excellent video.
Thank you, just needed the front face off. My child keeps running around the house with controller in hand knocking out the joysticks. And he wonders why he drifts in fortnite.
Thank you!! Once I seen you can take the two black wires off it made it so much easier!! 🙏
I sneezed whilst holding a soda can and some spilled into the A button and it kept getting stuck. Had to open up the controller and clean it.
Thanks for the video. I would have been in trouble without
