I smiled throughout this whole video. My grand-mere was born in Grenoble. She lived to be 100 and was sharp as a tack until the day she died. She lived alone in her house. She went to the beauty shop every Thursday to get her hair done. She wore red nail polish every day her whole life. She never owned a pair of pants. She wore a dress and stockings and sensible shoes and special jewelry that was sentimental to her. Her dressing table was magic - skin creams, scented sachets and powders, lipstick, powder and rouge, and lovely perfumes. When she passed, the funeral home called me and said I needed to correct her age on her death certificate. They couldn't believe she was 100 because her skin was so beautiful and smooth. She was indeed the epitome of a French woman!
Very nice!~ My Gram was born in Alsace and although she did not live as long as your Gram, she sounds so similar in behavior and appearance to yours. When she passed her skin was still porcelain-like and only had 3 visible lines across her forehead. Vive La France!

Enjoyed this video Alice. Would love you to share more about your own transformation between living in the US and France - you were 'tanned' with blonde hair and now paler with dark hair. Obviously the latter is more chic and it would be fascinating to hear your thoughts on the transformation, the advice you received to get rid of the blonde etc. And in particular, some more advice on French hair care. French women tend to have shinier healthier hair - do they blow dry/air dry, is it the French diet, the amount of water they drink, the fact they don't tend to lighten their hair much? All the tips to help us mere mortals with frizzy unruly hair would be a great video.

Alice, why do you always make some sort of demeaning comment about American women while comparing them with French women? Every country or nation has their own culture and beauty standards. For your country skinny might be considered attractive, but go to the Middle East…… for them a little fat on a woman’s body is healthy, beautiful, and attractive. Also, in most countries around the world, a natural hair style does not mean messy hair.
While monthly facials are optimal for maintaining healthy skin, you can increase the frequency during times of higher stress or environmental exposure, not to mention before holiday season 🙂
American women pay a lot of attention to skincare. The spend a lot of money on what classifies as "quality skincare." In fact,, the skincare industry is doing amazingly in the US. The average American woman does not wear a lot of makeup. People notice these trends like contouring in trendy and touristy places, but in other places, they were classic wardrobes and wear minimal makeup. I've seen it in New Jersey, New York, Florida, New Hampshire, the Carolinas, etc.
I’ve heard that a big reason the French way of eating is healthy is in part because people often eat together. I could see how this may relax the nervous system, and slow down mastication and a nice meal with those you care about could improve digestion.
Gel nails can look very natural and you don’t have to worry about damaging your nails. I was a purist for decades, weekly traditional manicures but then tried a natural looking gel manicure. I’ve never gone back.
I am German and I have the same lifestyle like you describe the French. Only point 9 is not my personal thing. Possibly it is not only a french lifestyle but more european then US.
So funny reading through the comments and seeing how so many people glommed onto the "no tap water on the face" thing and ignored your most important point about having beautiful skin: It's what you're putting in your mouth!! Actually, I'm wondering if the tip to not use tap water on the face comes from the fact that the tap water is so horrible in Paris; at least it was when I was there in the mid-80's. I was there as a student and I drank it for a few days not knowing no one does (or did) and by day 3 my mouth tasted like rust and soap. I quickly made the change to drinking bottled water!
Thank you for this insightful video. Do you ever use tretinoin or retin A? It is shocking, to me not using water and soap. Sometimes, foundations stays on my pores and I really need to insult my skin to remove it. I guess you solved that problem- no foundation!! What do you use to wash your beautiful looking skin?
yes since my 20s real retinoin prescribed by my doctor only on the counter and if I don't have any eyes side or cheek wrinkles it is because of that. I only use rose water ot evian water :)
As far as soap goes, it is indeed very harsh. I use water, but I have my own well. City water with chlorine... ewwww. Also, the worst water I have ever experienced for my skin and hair is in Paris! Full of chalk. Yuck.
I am French and I feel that I have to leave a comment... As I used to damage my skin with all these chemical products... My face was oily for example. I stopped using chemical products including sunscrean, I changed my French diet to a more natural diet, and I'm much healthier now. I'm 41 and I am proud of not being addicted to these industrial products that pretend to make us beautiful. Nature, joy and love make us beautiful :0)
@@libbycollins9349 I'm sorry for you. Yes I agree, when you can't avoid being exposed to the sun, a protection is required. The best to me is to cover with clothes or not to be exposed to the sun at warmest hours.
@@OpheliePlanckaert yes, that’s the best. I volunteer one day a week at a foodshelf in Florida and need to out in the sun for five hours. I wear a sunscreening long sleeve shirt and a cap, but the backs of my hands and ears and neck and lower face get sunscreen that day. I avoid the sun whenever I can.
As a french woman I can't get my head around the notion that the world think we are especially beautiful...some of us are obviously but the majority ? Nah.
It’s not so much that French women are more beautiful, but it’s that they’re “bien dans sa peau”. They’re more comfortable with their faces/bodies/sexuality than many other women.
Moved to france almost 2 months ago and I’m still blown away by the beauty, elegance and youthfulness of the older ladies here! They are stunning and makes me less scared of aging🩷
The Beauty is inside but having said so all European women (brits not really) are more focused in taking care of our skin. Then It's easy, very light CC or bb cream, blush, concealer, rimmel & Lipstick. Again all spplied very softly ❤❤❤
Best thing you can do is protect your skin from UV rays as young as possible. You can do quite a bit of damage in your 20s. No cream will reverse damage. Drinking water is also really important.😊
Tap in the states is full of chlorine fluoride. I stopped using anything but distilled water on me hair and wow what a diff- now I’m doing it on my face!!

I do aspire to learn, so thank you for the insight! Love from and American who has never contoured (and dont know anyone who does), puts a large emphasis on skincare and minimal makeup, and also doesn't self tan. To each their own! Whatever self care and style we choose, we're all beautiful in our own unique ways. ❤

I find it funny. I'm from Arizona and I'm part German, Icelandic, Estonian, Scottish. Not French. But I do all of these things already. I just hate contouring and fussing over fake looks. I feel like I'm just watching my own routines. I had a Kevin Aucoin book at 13 and tried contouring in 1998 but it was hard. I also looked more pale in photos. Kevin is great with makeup, but I gave up.

So much better, I have to say that I've never contoured in my life 😊 I love natural botanical skin products, vegan & cruelty free is vital! Also, I never use soap or tap water on my face either! I've just turned 52 and many people think I'm younger which is a lovely compliment. Loved this video, I'm from England ❤
Thanks for sharing! How do you avoid tap water, though? I use a clay cleanser that's applied to dry skyn and then rinsed off (very happy with it, btw) and the part that I enjoy most is using completely cold water to close off the pores & wake me up. Do you use other type of water to wash your face or just never wet it with water? Just trying to understand.
@@adelaova9868 I generally just use Micellar water with a muslin cloth. When the weather is warm, pop micellar water in the fridge, it's really refreshing on the face. Too many metals and chemicals in tap water, I also never drink it unless pre boiled. 😊
@@valeriepoulan9022 I use rosewater.
@rachelbrough8160 how do you shower?
Yes I saw her in the blonde tanned version. Is it like she just learned how to style herself in the "French" way?
She was very blonde and very tan a couple of years ago.
Delightful video full of French wisdom.Your mama and grandmama sound wonderful! Thank you, Alice. I used to live in the Franche-Comté and the tips you share take me back fondly. As you show in all the videos on your channel, the approach to beauty in France is so much bigger than self-care habits, it's in the art of living well.
Yes, it is the art of living well. That’s it exactly.
I can’t wait to try Typology! I love they have quality ingredients and are cruelty-free! Thank you for your tips, I’ll be trying all of these. Merci bien!
I'm Italian but I can 100% relate

Wonderful video! The pleasure in life is the best cosmetic❤
I’m Australian but I’m now wondering if I have French roots 🤷🏼♀️My beauty principles do seem very French 🇫🇷

and I haven't used soap on my face since the age 13, I am now 68 and have really good skin! I must be French!
Je suis française et je valide à 100% ce que tu as dit 😊
Love the lipstick in the white case ! Which one is it, may I ask ? You should do a video on your favorite lipstick shades 😊
Love all your insights and suggestions..a lot of it is universal, but, especially the keyed down makeup and hair is a great french aesthetic.
Alice, your videos are getting better and better. Thank you
Alice, why do you always make some sort of demeaning comment about American women while comparing them with French women? Every country or nation has their own culture and beauty standards. For your country skinny might be considered attractive, but go to the Middle East…… for them a little fat on a woman’s body is healthy, beautiful, and attractive. Also, in most countries around the world, a natural hair style does not mean messy hair.
French woman are no different from any other European women. In all European countries the natural look is the normal.
There is not such a thing as "european women" in a continent full of people from different cultures and nationalities... and that is great...
All European countries prefer the natural look? As someone who lives in Europe, this is NOT true.
I wash my face with tap water and Elemis rose cleansing balm , skin needs water ,tap or bottled whatever you fancy. 👍
I love this video and naturally gravitate to these my whole life especially the dress nice, simple makeup and healthy eating so important ❤
Lovely colour coat Alice. Bonne journée ✨
Unfortunately gel destroys my nails
@@izabelazajac574Me too! Tried it once, it was beautiful, but it took months for my nails to recover. Never again!
I am German and I have the same lifestyle like you describe the French. Only point 9 is not my personal thing. Possibly it is not only a french lifestyle but more european then US.
My favorite perfumes are Lalique and Hermes.
Please would you share info on the black jacket with gold buttons you are shown wearing in one part of video? Thank you!
Yuck.
Can you make video about what to wear at home please
I am French and I feel that I have to leave a comment... As I used to damage my skin with all these chemical products... My face was oily for example. I stopped using chemical products including sunscrean, I changed my French diet to a more natural diet, and I'm much healthier now. I'm 41 and I am proud of not being addicted to these industrial products that pretend to make us beautiful. Nature, joy and love make us beautiful :0)
All true, but sunscreen for easily burnt skin is essential. Skin cancer killed my loved brother.
So they're easy?
Moved to france almost 2 months ago and I’m still blown away by the beauty, elegance and youthfulness of the older ladies here! They are stunning and makes me less scared of aging🩷
French beauty is classy ❤
Great video! Love the outfit as well.❤❤❤
The Beauty is inside but having said so all European women (brits not really) are more focused in taking care of our skin. Then It's easy, very light CC or bb cream, blush, concealer, rimmel & Lipstick. Again all spplied very softly ❤❤❤
Love this video, thank you and you look very beautiful in your outfit💞
I am ordering the serum and moisturizer
@@Kimmy-rh1ry let me know what you think about it. I love their serum I also use by night
Oh how I miss that green bag!! Some of the best food I’ve ever had in my life for there!!
I think the accent makes the French beautiful.
Great video! Appreciate you sharing the products with us that really helps!!!
What do you rinse your face with if you don't use tap water?
rose water or evian water
Hi Alice, I have really enjoyed your channel and loved the latest info on Typology. I was looking for a new skin care regime and will give Typology a try. I am looking now looking for a good BB Cream and wondered if you would share the manufacture of yours? Thanks!

Love the brunette bob on you!!!❤️❤️🙌🏻
I learnt a new tip! No tap water on your face. I understand the miscellaneous water products now. I'm in New Zealand and we have Hard water also.
Love the video and your accent and style!!
BRAVO AS ALWAYS ALICE!!!!

What lipstick are you wearing in the clip of video on Lipstick?
TF indian rose
Thank you alot excellent video bendiciones
So do you wash your face with bottled or filtered water, if you don’t use tap? Very curious.
Probably with a cleansing milk and toner.
@ but you don’t rinse it off with anything? I’m genuinely curious.
I don’t think that the average American woman contours. I’m from New York City and don’t know anyone who would even have the time 😊.
Skin care is also huge where Im from. Though it’s true that we love French pharmacies.
Exactly! I'm a Canadian in Los Angeles and NEVER contour. Also, always always since I was a little girl SKINCARE first! I taught my daughters also, and SUNSCREEN is the most important skin care. Alice is somewhat harsh on Americans.
Very useful video! Could you please write the name of the sunscreen you use? Can't read. Thank you 🌸

Thanks for recommending a skin care brand. Like your videos a lot.

The french effortless ego is undeniable, that's true.
Greek women are very into skincare, makeup and are overall beautiful women.
I love the Greeks, Beautiful Beautiful Women!
I saw quite different kind of women in Paris...🤔🤔🤔
Exactly 👏
Love this ❤
So many stereotypes and assumptions made here.
I find women from every country and ethnicity attractive.
Honesty, never thought to "aspire to be like a French woman" to be more attractive.
As a french woman I agree with the message. There are attractive women everywhere and unattractive women everywhere (some french women are butt-ugly).
Just aspire to be the best version of who you are.
U have gorgeous skin! May I ask what is your age?
I find it funny. I'm from Arizona and I'm part German, Icelandic, Estonian, Scottish. Not French. But I do all of these things already. I just hate contouring and fussing over fake looks. I feel like I'm just watching my own routines. I had a Kevin Aucoin book at 13 and tried contouring in 1998 but it was hard. I also looked more pale in photos. Kevin is great with makeup, but I gave up.
I like Kevin Aucoin products which I discovered spending time in Sephora or saks in NY... used to be very high quaity
Alice i just subscribed and look the content, i love skincare ❤ especially natural skincare! Im woth u on that

Bonjour. Can you please share the name of your dermatologiest? When next time in Paris I would love to visit the French dermatologist.
It takes at least 6 months to have an appointment with a dermatologist in France and most of the time they don’t take new patient because we have a shortage. But our spas are excellent and if you pick a good one they will be able to advise you very well.
you can email me :)
Who is the gal at about 1 min in? Does anyone know? I'd like to watch her tutorial!
French women are beautiful because they wear make up, look after themselves and are elegant. Italian women are very beautiful too ❤
Happens in Spain also
Simple: they don’t mess with their faces with fillers and botox and sh*t, and they wear simple makeup that accentuates their best features. You’re welcome.
