I would imagine young American women are among the worst offenders. And I’m an American. They assume anything a Kardashian wears is appropriate. The fashion icons of this generation ? God help us. Where are the Jackies and Audreys?

Ani Merci: Exactly my thoughts. We used to have fashion icons, like you mentioned, Jacky, Audrey, Grace, Twiggy... and now it's the Kardashians?? I see EVERYTHING one of them wears appears sooner or later in HM or Zara or Primark or whatever.. those black jeans with 2 slits at the knees were first worn by Kylie or Kendall, whatev... then all those see-through shoes.. crop tops. Oh, and spandex all over. The latest abominations I see creeping into fast fashion stores: cycle pants and fanny packs!! I mean, even if one tried one could not have inventend something more lowly, ugly, self-loathing, lazy, i-gave-up-on-life pieces of garment! I blame their love for everything stretchy on their anatomical inability to wear anything but. :/ horrible fashion.....

Actually I love a lot of platform shoes. Ever worn any? When you do you'll understand the point - much more comfortable than standard heels (basically the more thickness you have between your foot and the pavement the more comfortable you are). If you wear shoes just to sit around and make your feet look good - go ahead and wear stilettos. If you have to walk from a to b - NOT a practical option!

Though I agree with you regarding ripped jeans, I think the idea is to give off the impression one doesn't care too much and doesn't try too hard about looking new and always put-together. Personally, I do admire some people who wear very old clothes even though they have some defects, but the ripped jeans trend is a parody of the sincere people who really don't care much about their style. Therefore they annoy me too, but for the lack of sincerity, rather than aesthetics.

    Greetings from the northern US.
I agree with your list and the ideas of your readers. I would add transparent clothing with no under garment. I wear classic clothes and cannot understand the crude dressing of more and more women today...are they that desperate for attention??? Many of them look like they belong in a brothel or on the street corner....Unfortunately many American women just follow the herd and try to dress like the Hollywood types. I prefer to dress like a lady. I was brought up to wear classics and to have manners...we need to start a movement to improve the image of the American woman by changing how we dress and not buy the degrading clothes that are in the stores today. If we don't buy it they won't sell it. Also add to your list: thong swim bottoms-ugh!

And don't forget Daisy Dukes, or however jeans cropped to the size of undies are called. I would agree it is desperation. Like they cease to exist when no man is drooling over them.
Many years ago, in the shop where I was fitted for my bridal gown there was another young woman trying on a bridal gown of such reduced dimensions that my mother, my mother-in-law and I just stared. There was a bit of white lace, a few strings of white beads and a bit of white fringe, that was it. My mother predicted that the pastor would send her home to cover herself before he would beginn the marriage service.

I admit I own a Michelin Man coat. I put on weight due to an illness and didn't want to invest in a bigger and bigger coat so it's a stop gap until I can lose weight and fit into my lovely wool coat again. Otherwise, this would never be in my closet. But I do agree, this is not a flattering or pulled together look. I so miss my old wardrobe : (

I NEVER thought I would purchase one, until I tried this one on in the store, of course I bought a very good quality coat, maybe what made the difference, but it doesn’t look like the Michelin Man... the hood is detachable too, which I liked

Get over it girls - this is NOT a practical article of clothing! And therefore should not have a place in our wardrobes. I've even heard them described as an article of torture designed purely to titillate men's fancy. Something to ponder
(Sure if you want to use them to spice up your love life with your man and never leave the house in them then you may be able to justify their existence to yourself - personally I'd never spend that much money on a shoe that never left the house)

Also, lighter shades of denim always look casual so you can't dress up a pair of pale denim jeans like you can a dark pair - I find that too limiting

I realize this was posted 3 yrs ago but, I have some pro comments for the cocoon coat. (Agree with everything else). In fall/ winter I love thick large sweaters and cardigans. If I wear a structured fitted coat, the coat becomes too tight overtop of the sweaters and it looks and feels wrong. I am also very petit, you might say I need a larger fitted coat be then the fitted shape is all wrong. Cue in the cocoon coat. If you get the right size (not too large) they save the winter, thick sweater / cardigan outfit (in Canada) and I no longer feel too restricted going out. I can go, and look good (I think) in outer wear too.

    Bonjour Marie-Anne,
Since you had a past video about disliking leggings, I have paid more attention when I see people in the streets or photos of models wearing them. Some women with absolutely stunning long slim legs don't have to worry about showing their legs off, and wearing them with lower in style boots, they look really good....I don't see them wearing tights, but these are well made leggings with long tunic tops or a long enough jacket. While I would wear leggings when I was thinner and younger, I don't think they are appropriate for me any longer. Tights are not made to be worn as leggings , and it's obvious that that is not what they were made for. It seems that when they are worn as leggings, well, those women, no matter what the age, definitely should not be even wearing slim fitted slacks. I've found that it is just a small number of women who can wear well made leggings and really look good. Even women who have skinny straight legs look awful wearing leggings !! IMO

Hi, from UK, your list was quite funny because we all accept such things as fast fashion items, some are not so fast and endure tho. I admit to wearing one or two of these things, like leggings (only for yoga), a onesie ( it's the only garment for when I'm unwell and feeling cold) my adult comfort babygro for indoors only, in sombre grey! As far a ripped jeans are concerned, some trendy designer has made a killing out this look and the sad females who embrace it, I think it started out as a joke! I have some ripped old ones for gardening with genuine holes! 😀 Also a couple more for the list, I know it's not clothing but it's something that is worn and that is - very very fake tan, yuk, coupled with the long fake hair extensions that resemble some sort of obscure 'curtaining' for the head, it's like a uniform for hair. Long hair is not for every grown up female, it has to be said.... in fact looking around the high street, females from 20 thru to 60+ have the same hairstyle, real or fake, it used to be blonde but it ranges now to all colours of the rainbow. Add to that nail extension with artwork on them. Most unhygienic! People are turning into living art installations care of the whacky designers who are clapping their hands with joy for all the money they are making of the back of fashion victims. Give me a mo and I'll think of some more😎

I do love some tie-dye clothes tho - depends on colors and the cut (i have a couple of tie-dye clothes in my wardrobe still - well loved and well cut pieces, always get compliments)

To this list I would add "belly shirts" . I wear leggings which are thick and always cover my bottom and are balanced by low boots. I believe when worn this way, they are an appropriate. I see way too many that are thin and worn as pants....which they are not ! Loved this video....you had me laughing Marie-Anne !

I wear leggings, too, but am sure to hide the upper part, using tunics or very long sweaters, etc., and never use the ones that are more like tights. But I also live in a very rural area. I find that tall boots help to reduce the legging look, and, as my legs are pretty thin, they are seldom form-fitting.

It's not the leggings that are so bad. The problem is not wearing a long top to cover the derriere.
Enjoy your leggings. Just wear a tunic length top over them which will cover your derriere. Some even wear short dresses over leggings.

I completely agree with your list, Marie Anne! I notice you had NONE of those items in your closet to show us! Of course not! You are chic❣ I'd add neoprene like bike shorts and scuba pants & tops! Yes, I've really seen those ... and not in a beach vacation setting! Also sports bras worn as tops! My cat shredded the thigh of my jeans , and I threw them away! Alas, I didn't know they were just "distressed" and would become "fashionable"!? 😖 Ha! As always, great video! 👍😊 💞💞

I totally agree. I would add elasticated trousers and skirts - not a good look as they bunch round the waist. Everything started going pear shaped if you'll excuse the pun when shell suits came out - way beyond sloppy especially as most people who wear them never have been to a gym!

When I saw this video come up, I decided to make a list of what I thought would be on your list, before I even watched it, and in this order. Honestly, I didn't cheat:
    1. Leggings
    2. Ripped jeans
    3. Sweatshirts or T-shirts with logos or "Super Heroes" on them
    4. Dungarees (or baggy overalls)
    5. Fake leather pants
I forgot about the harem pants and cocoon coats. Also, wearing your pyjamas outside! :)
    Great video, Marie-Anne! :)

Bonjour Marie Anne. Yes, I am in total agreement with your choices to avoid. I have wondered many times if people who wear those things have a full length mirror at home and look at themselves before going out. Everyone dresses as they wish of course but it is hard to understand some so called fashion garments. Less is more and definitely best.

    Another great video.
Oh my goodness, ripped jeans, horrible! Why, oh, why is this style so popular? I would add ripped denim shorts to this, though that may be the same category. Also, I would add tops that are cropped to just under the bra line and skirts and shorts that are way too short--especially when worn together. However I do wear leggings as tights since it's very cold here in Canada.

A funny story - I took my 11 year old twin granddaughters out shopping for jeans, trying to fit their long legs, yet still girlish bodies. They are not yet affected by style, play active games at recess at school, practice Judo, so not much interest in style and clothes yet. I informed them they had to try the clothes on, and we had quite a hilarious fashion show of sorts in the dressing rooms. While we were leaving we walked past the rack of clothes that women had tried on but not bought, and it was full of jeans with holes, ripped up, rather used looking jeans. One of the twins stopped and looked at the rack of jeans and I thought "finally a bit of interest in clothes!"
She turned to me and asked "Grandmum, why does everyone leave their old jeans here?"
We laughed the whole way home - she had no idea her whole drawer of knee-holed jeans that she had 'worn out' were popular - she was saving them for cutoffs!

I love your videos! I bought a Joules top before you posted your video on Joules clothing. I was so happy to see it! I live in Southern California where the culture is very laid back. Many people wear things that are unflattering. Some of the things I see people wear in public are flip-flops, pajama bottoms, ripped jeans, old T-shirts with faded logos, Ugg boots with shorts, and pants that are way too tight! I think it's fine to wear these things if you are at home cleaning, washing your car, or working in the garden. It's sad that people don't have more respect for themselves. How you look on the outside gives a big impression. I'm not saying that people should dress up every time they go out. You can at least wear things that are well fitted, ironed, stain free and don't have holes in them.

The baseball hat, gardening gloves and a scarf (if needed for warmth) are nice added practical touches. Leggings come in handy, however, I do get what you mean. 👍
