It's crazy to think how games was easier to make back then. GT2 lauched with 500 more cars than GT1 and two years later dropped GT3 with everything remodelled
Not necessarily. The developers slept in their offices during the development of Gran Turismo 1. They only left their offices a few times in a year. Kaz himself once talked about going outside one day to discover that it had been snowing. He basically spent so much time holed up in his office that he hadn't realised that months and even seasons had passed until he finally went outside.

I remember we kids gathered around the PS3 try- out consoles in an electronics store to play GT5 Prologue in 2008. It included the then brand new Nissan GTR R35 which seemed like magic :) Now 16 years later its rumored that the last R35 will be produced...
By the time the Nissan R35 GTR will finally end production it will be old enough to drive itself lol. It's funny to see how opinions differ on that car not just now but over the years it's been in production. When it came out there were people who loved it for punching well above it's weight by keeping up with far more expensive supercars while costing significantly less than them but there were also people who criticised how it felt to drive by calling it a "laptop on wheels". Nowadays there are people who call it one of the last analogue sports cars to drive while others criticise it for costing as much as the supercars it was supposed to beat.

Gran Turismo 1 was delayed because Sony didn't thought that a racing game with physics that are closer to realism and RPG elements will sell well, oh how wrong they were.

The crazy thing about the GT SPORT release date is that it was released on my 16th Birthday which was wild I saved up my money and pre ordered the collectors edition and when I got home there it was. I played the closed beta and all the demos leading up to it. So to have it released in my birthday it will always have a special place in my heart.
A public release date keeps the fire lit under the entire team to keep pushing themselves. This is done in business all the time. The delays can be annoying, however, I still stand by the opinion that Polyphony turns out the most polished games in the world. They may not be what you specifically want, but every one is high class, professional, polished. It's amazing to me with the amount of content in each game that there arent far more bugs in them. I remember buying GT when it released in the US, and I've been supporting them with every game since. GT7 is a masterpiece. Sure, there are things all of us would change. But its beautiful. That's my opinion. Great video as always, even if I dont agree personally with a few of your views on certain aspects.
Id actually argue GT6 needed a delay more than any other title - because it was simply released at the wrong time in the console generation. Delay GT6 for a few months, and make it a year 1 title for PS4 - and its amazing. On PS3, it felt more like GT5 v3.0 - on PS4, it could have stood by itself a lot more and benefitted hugely from that gap in the market.
Indeed the timing of the release was quite horrible, not to mention the box art with the blue color being almost if not identical to the blue color used for PS4’s banners and promos. It fooled me in fact who was desperate to find GT6 when I first received my PS4
I think the sad reality is that the developers have changed a lot over the years and are no longer interested in the career mode like how they used to be. At this point I feel like all we can do is hope that some other studio decides to create a game like Gran Turismo 4 but better instead of hoping for Polyphony Digital to do it.
@@the90degreerighthander At this point GT needs to be split between GT8 Classic (Single player/no online content/no network connection needed to race - but could have one for content updates) and GT 8 Sport which would be the online only version focused on competitive racing with larger grids and much more diverse races. The delays are what pushed me away from Gran Turismo for more than a decade and pushed me towards the Forza series. I finally returned to GT a couple years ago. And here we are with me thinking that maybe the latest Forza should have been delayed a bit since everything I hear about the latest iteration is bad.
I don't think a delay would have saved the FM reboot due to Microsoft's GENIUS idea to hire employees for 18 months each. What's even worse is that they did the same thing with Halo Infinite and you wonder why that game's launch was disappointing.
For those wondering, the reason PAL version is always released last is because that version needs to contain translations to various languages compared to NTSC versions where they can get away with including a single language Edit: it's actually mentioned in the video at around 13:40
i'll be honest, i feel like keeping GT6 on the PS3 was the right call. not everyone can afford to buy a brand new console at launch and having the game on PS3 fixed the same issue that co-releasing GT7 on PS4 also fixed: less fortunate gamers aren't locked out of the new game. HOWEVER, i 100% believe that GT6 SHOULD have gotten an updated PS4 port with smoother performance and slightly better graphics about six months to a year after its PS3 release.

In terms of the impact of a delay, some speculate that the reason Lotus was excluded from GTS was because the licence lapsed between its planned release date and its eventual release. No one can confirm this, of course, but still interesting to note nonetheless.

I remember waiting for GT5 and kept seeing it getting delayed, reading the articles in gaming mags (RIP the real ones) and even kept putting off getting a PS3 until it came out. I eventually relented when Sainsbury's had one on offer for £225. So at least I had the console ready for the game. Which didn't come out for a whole year after I got it. To little 14 year old me, it was agony, but when it came to Christmas 2010 I quite literally bought it as a present to myself and played it the rest of the Christmas Holidays. Good Times.
I still remember the hype i had during the long wait for GT5 until I was somewhat underwhelmed when i actually got my hands on the game. I actually quite liked it at the time but i also felt like it wasn't as good as GT4. Nowadays, i think of GT5 fondly despite all the flaws.
0:39 Looking up to Unbound's release sure was healthy for me and it did meet my expectations for being a well-priced narrative masterpiece and not being tied so hard to 2015's foundations 🌚 Art Of Rally on the other hand...

It honestly makes GT7 feel like a better game when you ignore the bad. I love doing the events in the game, even when I already won them. Just love using different cars, livery editor, etc. and everything becomes very nice.
With all those delays, I basically expected GT5 would be some sort of "2nd coming of Jesus himself". And even after all the time we had to wait, I still believe it was nowhere near what we all expected it to be.
Honestly the biggest mistake Kaz made with GT5 was trying to do too much at once, the smarter thing to do would have been to focus on making a smaller more focused game, then ramping up the content in GT6, probably would've been easier on development
I'm still amazed that they released games on the PS3/360 with DISGUSTING looking z-fighting, shimmer, and broken shadows. Games like GTA4 were absolutely wrecked by this phenomenon. Gran Turismo 5 is probably the biggest victim of this in GT land. Look at the shadows at 27:01 fighting with the white bumper of the Supra. 27:07 you can see the shadows clipping in and out of the white bodywork as it shimmers its way down the track. 25:15 you can see parts of the car just straight-up glitching its way around the track, shimmering, screen-tearing, and everything. Nasty.
44:55 I wouldn't really guarantee that, as public perception can affect the final result. Look at Fallout 76 and No Mans Sky as examples. Both launched with different problems, one having a laundry list of bugs and the other missing promised features at launch. Over time, updates have brought them to the point where they have become "good" (obviously a subjective assessment but there have been improvements at least). Despite the improvements made to both over the years, the public perception from launch still lingers and this has affected people choosing to play them regardless of the changes.
i think since GT2000 was initially announced as a launch title for the western release of the PS2, and the PS2 began its western rollout in October 2000, i think it's safe to assume that GT2000 was initially planned for a worldwide launch in October. so i think there's an argument to be made that November 2000 was actually the first delay, not the initial planned release, and that GT3 had 3 delays, not 2.
I'm always find with waiting if it means improvement in the quality of the product. Despite some of the disappointment from... well... 'any' given group. Gran Turismo rarely ever truly fails. Long Live Gran Turismo. \m/, (*o*) ,\m/
I've been playing a ton of older racing games lately including GT and I really don't understand wth was Polyphony cooking back then. GT5 literally has no content, the campaign is a joke some of the events have just one single race. GT6 was just a GT5 dlc but no car damage?? And the kicker for me, Enthusia on the PS2 has way better car physics than even GT7.
Thank god I got hold of GT5 and GT6 and Sport after years later because its so easy to find at my nearest pawn shop Because it was abit expensive to pre order to be honest
I really expect for rofl to do a collab with GT Electro one day, the Italian (Electro) and the English (Rofl) that come together to bring unknown infos about GT
Funny how both GT2 an GT4 are the biggest delays on the list, yet they are the most favored. Almost like the delays actually had work put into em. (Still wish GT4 had that online mode though lol, that would've been so cool)
I'm pretty sure the final GT5 delay was caused by the debug USBs allowing homebrew on PS3 they could bump the os version to one that didn't support the debug USBs
1:33 Morio Kishimoto (idk how to type that name) is one of the most important guys at Sonic Team/SEGA. He's developing/directing/deciding for the Sonic games since Yuji Naka left the company because of the terrible development cycle of Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) the anniversary reboot title. Btw it was Naka's terrible decisions making this game a failure. Then later in 2022, Sonic Frontiers had to be delayed. His argument for that was exactly that quote because Frontiers was some kind of a small reboot too. He wanted to clarify that something like Sonic The Hedgehog (2006)(or Sonic Next-Gen) will *never ever happen again*.
Games take time, and in todays world its a gift if devs get more time when realising the product isnt finished. And higher-ups and shareholders breath down their necks, thats how we got the Cyberpunk 1.0..... As a kid I was bummed when TestDrive Unlimited on PC didnt release at christmas 2006, but half a year later. The new TestDrive SC is delayed again but nowadays busy daily life makes waiting easier, also the old titles are always there to enjoy. However waiting for a new GranTurismo is a thing that as PC user I never had to endure :) And whatever happens: DONT PREORDER anything! Gran Turismo is like the racing game equivalent of Kingdom Hearts when it comes to delays. wild how those are also my two favourite video game franchises lmao ah yes, i LOVE games that keep teasing us only to pull the rug out from under us right when the date is about to arrive. this isn't a shot at either series btw. i understand that delays allow more time for devs to make a game better and im not asking anyone to rush development. just stop announcing the release date when it's too early lolol.
damn, you make such good content. I'd love to be a patron, but as a 16 year old in Poland I just can't rack up some funds for it. At least I'd want to make this comment and give you some praise rofl!
I'm ok with Gran Turismo delaying their games however long they need to. There will always be games to play in the meantime, especially when 5 was being developed, and we had two fantastic Forzas to play in the meantime.
I wonder if any delays could have helped GT5 with the whole premium/standard car division and how they decided to make a bigger deal out of it than it needed to be with the game's structure. Also the whole zoom button for the menus also really just is a massive UI design failure I wish they avoided.
GT6 is still broken. Why pre-2006 LMP cars have 30% more horsepower than their real life counterparts? Why C60 Hybride has around 600hp listed but after you buy it it goes over 900hp stock, while newer 2006+ LMP cars remain the same? Also why when I use Audi R18 TDi, a freaking LMP1 car in Arcade Mode, I go race against tuner cars and drift cars? Like the Amuse Fairlady Z? Or GT4 cars and GT3 cars like BMW Z4???
it’s now much worse today with the demand of the release of new games being high since the past game was a complete failure or disaster. and GT7 WAS delayed, and still incomplete
They should’ve released GT5 as soon as they could, any of these delays could’ve been apart of an update. PD should stop numbering their games, next should simply be called Gran Turismo. They should rerelease GT each time there’s a new console, on a consoles day one. They can add new features, cars, tracks just like they are today
This is what's wrong with modern gaming. Pay full price for a broken unfinished game with the slight hope that after 3 years of updates it will be a servicable game.

Good Times.
The gt3/prologue wait nearly killed me.
I still remember the hype i had during the long wait for GT5 until I was somewhat underwhelmed when i actually got my hands on the game. I actually quite liked it at the time but i also felt like it wasn't as good as GT4. Nowadays, i think of GT5 fondly despite all the flaws.
ValveTime
I prefer them delaying their games instead of releasing halfbaked stuff... unlike another Studio... *cough* Ubisoft *cough*
babe wake up roflwaffle uploaded
0:39 Looking up to Unbound's release sure was healthy for me and it did meet my expectations for being a well-priced narrative masterpiece and not being tied so hard to 2015's foundations 🌚
Art Of Rally on the other hand...
I was so unbelievably hyped for GT5! It felt like a lifetime for it to release!
i searcehd what was the most delayed game of all time was and i think i found it
it's beyond good and evil 2
it was first announced in 2008 and 16 years later still has not been released (i'm not kidding just search it on wikipedia the release date is still not confirmed)
I agree it's a step back from GT4, especially in terms of the campaign.
Honestly the biggest mistake Kaz made with GT5 was trying to do too much at once, the smarter thing to do would have been to focus on making a smaller more focused game, then ramping up the content in GT6, probably would've been easier on development
@@Alorso_ So basically how he did it with 3 and 4.
23:30 not even a what to go!?
I remember when my Sony refunded my pre order for GT sport twice because of the delays lol
Yeah Sony we still wait for GT7 on PC :)
i think since GT2000 was initially announced as a launch title for the western release of the PS2, and the PS2 began its western rollout in October 2000, i think it's safe to assume that GT2000 was initially planned for a worldwide launch in October. so i think there's an argument to be made that November 2000 was actually the first delay, not the initial planned release, and that GT3 had 3 delays, not 2.
I'm always find with waiting if it means improvement in the quality of the product. Despite some of the disappointment from... well... 'any' given group. Gran Turismo rarely ever truly fails.
Long Live Gran Turismo.
\m/, (*o*) ,\m/
now, lets talk about tdu freakin solar crown
Having been around for a lot of these releases, I don't bother paying attention to their release dates as the hype builds.
GT5 was more about the online aspect, same goes for GT6. Which ages them really poorly because those online services were shutdown long ago.
Most likely GT5 was 1 year delay somewhere right after GT PSP launched it because 140 employee were small at the time.
I as many others are a long time GT fan, And i really enjoy your videos! Thank you
Bruh I didn't even know the ps3 existed till 2010 when I saw the gt5 trailer and thought it was still a ps2 game
Thank god I got hold of GT5 and GT6 and Sport after years later because its so easy to find at my nearest pawn shop
Because it was abit expensive to pre order to be honest
1:30 CyberPunk 2077 has entered the chat
I wish they had delayed GT2, we could have had an actually finished game :(
I really expect for rofl to do a collab with GT Electro one day, the Italian (Electro) and the English (Rofl) that come together to bring unknown infos about GT
I still wanna know what car is under that purple cover Gran Turismo 1
LET'S GOOOOOOOO
Games take time, and in todays world its a gift if devs get more time when realising the product isnt finished. And higher-ups and shareholders breath down their necks, thats how we got the Cyberpunk 1.0.....
As a kid I was bummed when TestDrive Unlimited on PC didnt release at christmas 2006, but half a year later.
The new TestDrive SC is delayed again but nowadays busy daily life makes waiting easier, also the old titles are always there to enjoy.
However waiting for a new GranTurismo is a thing that as PC user I never had to endure :)
And whatever happens: DONT PREORDER anything!
I would wait as long as possible to market the game and keep guys like Todd Howard from spreading lies beforhand...
Gran Turismo is like the racing game equivalent of Kingdom Hearts when it comes to delays.
wild how those are also my two favourite video game franchises lmao
ah yes, i LOVE games that keep teasing us only to pull the rug out from under us right when the date is about to arrive.
this isn't a shot at either series btw. i understand that delays allow more time for devs to make a game better and im not asking anyone to rush development. just stop announcing the release date when it's too early lolol.
I am also a diagnosed gt3 simp
damn, you make such good content. I'd love to be a patron, but as a 16 year old in Poland I just can't rack up some funds for it. At least I'd want to make this comment and give you some praise rofl!
It's crazy how GT4 had over 700 cars and with nice models on the PS2! It's my beloved game! GT3 is my second favourite GT game in the series.
I'm ok with Gran Turismo delaying their games however long they need to.
There will always be games to play in the meantime, especially when 5 was being developed, and we had two fantastic Forzas to play in the meantime.
Wait, so GT5 came out in NA/EU before JP?
Bit of a question, but do you think B Spec mode will ever return to the series?
I wonder if any delays could have helped GT5 with the whole premium/standard car division and how they decided to make a bigger deal out of it than it needed to be with the game's structure. Also the whole zoom button for the menus also really just is a massive UI design failure I wish they avoided.
23:31 lol he said the thing... sorry i am dumb
you forgot the movie, I think it was meant to release on august 11 2023 but ended up releasing august 25th
1000 cars in gt4, that's alot of mx5s
❤
I think they should delay the release date trailer next when they announce gt8. it would just be too funny
TDU Solar Crown by Kryloton will beat GT by actually never releasing
damn thats crazy how did i get here 46 seconds early
it’s now much worse today with the demand of the release of new games being high since the past game was a complete failure or disaster. and GT7 WAS delayed, and still incomplete
23:31 FORTNITE MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯🗣🗣🗣🗣
Tbh I'd rather get GT6 as PS4's game. I always was curious how it would look like.
At least they GT7 is quality, even sounds are way better. FM8 and how long that garbage took is the real joke.
What about Mariokart 9
