@@Not_John30 doesn't change the fact that the entire game was built focusing on the online aspects. It's not like they decided to have a single player game and bring all the content dedicated to only you. At this state, if they bring offline mode the game will have nothing.
I will genuinely never understand how Driver San Francisco was able to populate their roads so heavily with both huge vehicle variety & dynamic pedestrian crowds when hardly any game engine after it could do it anywhere as well.
the main focus was vehicle density and being able to choose a car on the fly was apart of the plot. so therefore things like customization, garages and other beloved features in racing games aren't present and the focus on the density is heavy. simple as that
So tired of the roadmap approach, it just means your game is NOT bloody finished. I'll not be surprised if they'll pull the plug before the first anniversary.
I give it one Month before NACON cuts their Losses, Cancels the Roadmap, Shutters the Developers, Closes down the Servers and throws the Players to the Wolves :( I just, for the Players Sake, hope I am wrong!
@@simeonyves5940after this game I truly hope nacon goes under along with test drive. They obviously dont care at all about the player feedback which isn’t just from a few people but the entire community. It’s In the same direction as cod. Cod is gonna be dead soon (hopefully) because they dont listen to a single thing from the fanbase. This game need to crash and burn spectacularly so other game companies can have a slight chance at not making the same mistake. Ubisoft has already announced offline mode which is a HUGE blow to this game and I love every second of it.
@@sneakworldthe difference between this game and cod is, TDU has a cult fan base but not a large fan base, cod possesses both of those things people will buy cod every single year because they are under the impression nothing like it exist nor will they attempt to find something like it. TDU on the other hand unfortunately has competitors who’s games have been on the market and have large player bases already built forza,TCM, asseto corsa etc. Thus for the foreseeable future cod will continue its reign for better or for worse. If cod was gonna die it would’ve 1000% died after Vanguard but here we are.
test drive unlimited 1 & 2 felt so personal...the cars you bought and earned and houses you bought...they felt like they were actually yours.... TDU SC feels like nothing belongs to me...
There you go and the fact the game forces you to race get money and level rank you were not force to race they encouraged you to do other activities so you wouldn’t get bored it encouraged you to be a all around skilled driver whether being a good racer, good delivery driver or good convoy driver it had so many modes to play and all payed you and leveled you up the same as a race you were not forced to race unless you wanted to get a specific car locked behind a race or side mission
It seems like it's not a TDU Game. TDU isnt a racing game it's a driving game No garage limits, no houses, stores and the dealerships don't look anything like a dealership lol. Not to mention no quests or convoy missiona or uber ish missions.
That’s what I’m saying I remove in TEST DRIVE UNLIMITED 2 me and my 👩would drive around looking and more house and interiors to buy or go to car dealerships! This doesn’t have the interior or house buying options
I'm so tired of "ubisoftification" of racing game campaigns. they just lack objectivity, you don't have any long term goals other than buying the fastest cars possible. there's really not enough reason to play them other than casually driving around the map or racing with the same repetitive AI in the same boring locations all the time. At least solar crown has an interesting map but again, it's so lifeless. It's not even about NPC characters or other racers, i'm talking about the traffic. NPC cars always drive the same way whether it's a highway or a random street, and their numbers never change. One of the reasons i prefer driving around in GTA is that it's way more immersive and there are a lot more cars driving around you. The only game that gave me that immersion feeling of really driving on a road was NFS The Run, which was linear unfortunately.
@@thejusmar i know, it has a lot of limitations and problems. I think a combination of GTA's traffic and pedestrians with semi-realistic behaviour with the road and world design of nfs run would be perfect for a casual open world racing game. Driving in nfs run highways really felt realistic because of proper traffic density along with incredible environments

my issue is the lack of content the new TDU has. there's no hitchking, there's no licenese tests, no motorcycles, it's literally just races. the lifestyle elemnt is lost
As if the world needed any more generic live-service racing games. Those already exist and have the exact same things to offer. No one has any reason to choose this over any other game, making all this entirely pointless. @@vaclavjuracka9866 tbh it would be a sub-par mobile racing game compared to realistic games like grid autosport or real racing 3, Heck even some Unity based car games are better (at least performance wise they are) but I do praise the physics and graphics
The 2007 PS2 port of TDU1 had mansions and unique dealerships and you're telling me a game from 2024 doesn't have those at launch? Kind of a joke really.
“Don't let it die a second time'' Sadly, due to how far removed it is from the DNA of TDU2, it is fully DOA. It’s the dealerships for me; they feel so impersonal and unrealistic. no car dealer in the real world look like this, I hate the distorted futuristic look they’ve gone for-it's just a lazy design choice to save time.
In the old games, the car dealerships looked realistic, similar to how they looked in real life. What's more, luxury car dealerships are usually not such large empty halls. Most of the ones I know from the media have more of a boutique appearance.
The truth is that they created good handling for a game that doesn't resemble TDU's DNA at all. A small map that isn't a paradise island (that map would work much more like an NFS), no houses, no shops for clothing and hair stores scattered around the world to discover, futuristic design for some reason, dealerships that don't look real.... So many reasons that game has failed besides the internet connection
Yup you got it 100 percent right, bloody ridiculous TDU2 objectively is dozens of times better than a game made 15+ years after......inexcusable, I have to assume its activists bs combined with incompetence at this point if not some deliberate bs because nothing else makes sense. TDU 1 and 2 are so many times better and more content filled then solar crown it's ridiculous. And your right even the map choice was a red flag from the beginning and sadly I was correct, from fricking all of Oahu and Ibiza...to 300 square miles of fricking Hong Kong......with zero houses zero salons zero dealerships zero championships zero side quest missions etc. etc. etc. Heck you could even walkaround your house and back yards by the pool sides in TDU2 and change the furniture hang up pics you take in game on your house walls the works.
What’s crazy is they didn’t have this stuff in mind when making the game they really thought a hotel that gives you a room that’s not even customizable and you can’t invite friends was good enough and putting a clothing store plastic surgery place a hair salon all in the same squished place was going to be good enough they seen no problem with this until it was outrage saying we want all of this stuff across the map like the old games then they were like we will give it to you later like why didn’t you put small stores around the map it’s not hard to put in the game but the thing is they really thought this was sufficient enough because the game is just a racing game according to them these idiots have lost the plot completely that’s why the game feels like a Forza Horizon clone and not a TDU game you can simply play TDU and realize this game even though it looks better and more roads to drive on the personal connection is nonexistent it doesn’t feel like we are apart of the world it feels like we are just place into it their is no personal connection like he said everything from the old games is there but it’s in the most bland generic way possible like with dealerships and the house alternative a freaking hotel room you can’t invite players or decorate or invite people to your garage all that personal connection is gone no clothing stores to meet random people around the map no mechanics shop to fix your cars at around the map besides a workshop it’s so generic it’s fine I guess but being able to walk around and actually see the outside works as you’re picking your paint color was cool bro I just can’t rant enough about this game and the missions you could do they have turn this game into a full blown racing game and it never was that it had delivery missions and convoy missions that all paid you the same if not more money depending on how you stacked it up on top of FRIM or live events where you could get twice or triple money for higher stake requirements for bigger pay the game required you to be a skilled driver in all aspects not just a good racer you has to be all around good driver because each activity requires a different skillset
exactly who the FUCK wants to go to china?? nobody!!! thats who .. not to mention china is has the most polluted air in the world, so these clear skies in the game are just a lie too
I can't wrap my head around the fact that solar crown takes place in hongkong but it lacks Asian dealerships, they only have two nissan cars in the entire game
What's Even more shocking to me is that are they added a 2009 Nissan GTR R35 and a Nissan 370Z like we are living in the late 2010s , why they could not add a 2017 Nissan GTR Premium or a Nissan GTR 2024? The Crew 2 and Motorfest has cars from The Crew 1(RIP) but they added newer cars over its current lifespan to keep up with modern car culture Hell NFS unbound has cars which copied from Heat but added a few cars that were cut from Heat which was supposed to be added in a future update
@@priyeshboodhram8375Probably tough for a small studio reviving a dead IP with only a cult following to convince manufacturers to allow their cars in the game
I don’t even care about the server issues (it’s either getting fixed or everyone leaves), the optimization (the next gen of graphics cards and consoles may help to fix that issue), or the lack of new cars (~100 cars is more than enough for me). The biggest problem with this game is the lack of innovation. It’s like they took one step forward and three or four back. Sure physics is better (though it isn’t hard when we compare it to the botched physics of TDU 2), and the sounds improved, but really that’s about it. For example where are the customization?! Before anyone would throw virtual rocks at me for saying this, I didn’t meant like neon glows and spinners. There are so many exotic tuner companies out there like mansory, brabus or gemballa. Or what about just the manufacturers options when buying a car? It’s literally the same we already had back in 2007 in TDU 1. Pick a color, an interior color, and a wheel. Wow, what an upgrade compared to the old games. Or how about the cockpit cam? This game is supposed to be like a driving simulator, right? And yet, it has 45 degree wheel rotation, and your character’s legs are fixed on the pedals, and the gear lever is stuck in one position. Even NFS Shift had animated gearshifts 15 years ago!
@@hgmd3284 All thanks to the current state of AAA publishers thinking stockholders> gamers that buy their games, is why innovation is no longer a thing, not just for racing games, it's across the board fps, mobas. Etc. If you noticed after the 360/PS3/Wii era.
In TDU1 you could take your 350Z to be upgraded by NISMO so there was a small bit of extra customization beyond dealer option but that still exceeds what is here.
@@Brandon-hh8lx also TDU1's mod "platinum" had the cars that are available to the public as the purchasable one and if you wanted a different model of the same lineup, just head to the upgrade shops. And not just any shops. COUNTRY SPECIFIC tuning shops. If you want to tune luxury british cars, go to the uk tuner. Uk sports / supercars, british specialists. TDU1 and TDU2 gave you a reason to drive to a tuning shop because it's not for your car. Not all of them can specialize and that's the best thing. You're encouraged to explore and find the shops and after you did and someone asks, you can help them. Not only does it help exploration of the world roads, it also became a social event by interacting with someone and eventually getting a friend. They could've made the stock huracan be buyable and have the trim variants (performante, rwd, sto, super trofeo) or modified ones (rocket bunny, libertywalk, masonry, etc.) as tuning options. This way, you had more control on what kind of car do you want. This also fixes the "no customization waaah" issues somewhat. It might not be as extensive but atleast you get to have a modified variant of the stock huracan. The TDU1 devs were on to something when they added some trims for some cars (I think one of the alfa, ford and nissan cars had the trimmed variants). And it was a nice thing to have. I think I don't see any game where you can have a variant of the car you bought via upgrading it on the tuning shop.

Yep, it’s unbelievable, there’s not a single racing game franchise that is currently better than their predecessors from 10-15 years ago. Actually makes me feel kind of content that my favourite franchise, burnout, was laid to rest with a banger (paradise) in like 2013

This is NOT a TDU game, they are just using the TDU name for a quick cash grab. TDU was supposed to be a lifestyle focused game, not this Forza Horizon copy bs. Original TDU even inspired the Forza Horizon that we know today, and now they turned this game into an another Forza Horizon copy. Because of the way developers are ignoring their player base, I guarantee you that in a year, nobody will be playing this game no matter what updates they add

@@beardedmonkey1320 I’m aware of the potential “promise of an offline mode”. I’m not talking about that. Because, we’re not at that point yet - I’m talking about the ‘now’. I don’t understand the whole “The Crew doesn’t force/require online-lobbies generation” part. - If the game is 24/7 online ATM; how would it not, not require/force online lobbies? - because, afaia, you’re still in a ‘online session/lobby’ even if you’re strictly playing by yourself in a game that is operated to run 24/7 online ATM. - What is “generation” in this context? Because, that wording does not make any sense in this phrasing of your’s at all, whatsoever. Edit: The Stabillity here is irrelvent, imo. Pressure from investors and corporate greed is truly killing most AAA games nowadays. It's really crappy now that it's "normal" and accepted by gamers now for games to be released half baked. We can only hope this game follows Cyberpunk 2077 and turns out to be a fantastic game over time.
They wouldn't have got near as much hate as they did if they didn't take the Test Drive Unlimited names staple and put this game within its franchise. TDU and TDU2 were extremely ambitious and great in their own ways, like was stated, they separate themselves apart. But TDUSC has lost almost all of what made TDU different. As a result of taking the legacy name, ans failing in this sense is if all goes poorly, the TDU label is essentially as good as dead. We seen this a year ago with Saints Row. If they dont play their cards right, this will be the last TDU game and theyll go under.
To save this game, they need to make it an offline lifestyle game, above a racing game. Homes with limited garage spaces. Customisable homes. More detailed manufacture car options. Unique not generic dealerships. Unique clothing stores. They need to do more in the details to make the buying experience better, more like a configurator but obviously not all the details. Manufacturer exterior colours, interior colours, wheels, and interior trims is where the old game ended. TDU SC should add manufacture options that change the appearance of the car, such as different manufacture seat options like comfort seats or sport seats. They should add manufacture exterior trim options like instead of chrome window trim, you can choose black or carbon fibre. They should offer roof options like how some cars have normal roof, black roof, pan roof, etc. Actual manufacture packages that change the look of the car like Ghost package on Regera, Tempesta on Huayra, Aerokit on 911, or Weissach on 918. This would make the buying experience way more special and personal, and this after finding a unique not generic car dealer. The same for homes. Limited garage spaces but also changable decor and furniture like TDU2 to make it more personal. The homes should act as the only fast travel method, again creating a need to buy homes and also to explore/drive. Better life style events should be added like the previous games such as giving lifts to models, delivering packages, delivering cars, and more unique events. I get they cant add a big map, but they are going to add a second location? So why couldnt they choose a big map, but bring it out in smaller areas. Like for example release just 25% of a big map on launch. Then a few months later add another 25%, even as a paid dlc. Then another 25% etc, until after a year or 2 after release, you have a big area the size of Oahu or something.
Fun fact The crew 2 and motorfest has that option of picking trim options for specific car models which I something l love about the game like the wheels , interior colour NFS has that option but rarely have it
I get the impression that the unfinished game is directly tied to the economy. They don't want you buying all the cars you want before they get a chance to release more content. I hate these live service games that feel more like work (chores, grind) than entertainment.
They want shareholders to see extended engagement and grinding; and content walls force players to wait and stay on top of it. As if we have any more free time in this world... It's sad where it went from making quality games of passion, to cash grabs focused on "engagement"
@@MiDLiFECRYSiS Well. If they want me to grind, they have to give me a reason to grind. Just racing and triggering speed traps quickly becomes boring...
We need a tdu2 remaster Or in order to fulfil the mismatches in terms of the tdu name the devs could do the following 1. Expand the current map slowly to incorporate Hong Kong as a whole by adding extra districts in the mainland 2. Redesign dealerships along with houses to be more lifelike 3. End game championships that unlock at level 60 that work in a similar manner to the tdu2 championships 4. The introduction of more classes such as sports muscle and classics (or return to ABC) 5. Solar edition cars for beating clan members 6. Improve race payouts 7. Optimise space in dealerships by having special editions as a paint/trim option rather than individual spots on dealerships 8. Individual HUDs 9. Ai fixes 10. Separate stores for clothing and cosmetics (not necessarily the workshop but more detail inside regarding tuning and painting parts would be appreciated)
ULTRAVIOLET, they have all the feedback they needed. I played the beta and filled up their feed back questionnaire. I mentioned that the performance was unplayable[even on a mid to high end system with a 4070] and an offline mode was essential. Yet they launched it anyway. They arent going to sell significant numbers if these two big issues dont get addressed. Yes people want the life style system of tdu more than racing. [Im not a previous tdu player and personally I dont mind] But they should'nt be thinking about that without optimisation and featuring an offline mode. Those are enough to make the customer refund the game within an hour.
They had the feedback for sure, but now they have cold hard sales data, hard for them to refute the fact that due to their mistakes it’s selling terribly. Will it change anything? I hope so, but I’m not betting money on it
@@UltraViolet_Moses I hope they take your critique seriously. Because even in the latest developer update video they seem like they do no want to make it offline. And they mention the AI difficulty system based on chess ELO system. Which I don't think would be good for everyone. ELO system is incredibly competitive and was designed for one vs one in chess but rating points comparable to other peers. In a racing game where you compete with 6 to 8 opponents at the same time, against similar elo player , you have to be incredibly lucky to even secure a podium. And you will get there really fast ( reaching a plateau elo rating ). That is why people are frustrated by the AI in game. And nerfing it won't solve its problems. They should add custom difficulty based on the ( elo ) level data they have in the game.[the losing 30 events is called sandbagging in chess , yes it's a technique to lower difficulty].
4:49 something so minor but impactful they missed with the dealerships is the ability to spec a vehicle the way you want it to be, and back out of the configuration to see the spec you want in walk around mode. Just really can’t appreciate the car when you’re outside the dealership testing or after buying in the same way. Also, hopefully they will fix the avatar seating position in convertibles specifically, my back hurts seeing how they sit lol
Another thing that's really off about the HK setting is that, where's chinese cars? How come a game set in HK don't have BYD, Geely, Lynk & Co, MG, GWM, Chery etc?
Well, I travel to Hong Kong regularly. In terms of everyday normal cars, yes you can see those cars you mentioned on the roads. But when it comes to luxurious or sports cars, people of Hong Kong really dig European cars. You can see also an insane amount of Teslas on the streets. Can't remember any BYD or Geely sports cars.
I live in Hong Kong. Chinese cars are surprisingly rare here, to the point of basically never seeing them. It could be down to the fact we drive on the other side of the road, but I ultimately don’t know why. They just don’t get bought here.
this game feels like its devs never played tdu 1 or 2 and just were told to make the third game based off something like "yeah make a 1:1 map of whatever you want, add some dealerships, a hotel and expensive cars"
To all comments not understanding why they made such choices, why it was so buggy and the likes... Well here is insight coming from someone who had an internship there. To give context KT is the company behind a lot of the WRC games, which almost all had iffy physics and and car animation, which stemmed from the company's culture. Their goal is to make super crisp AA games with their own engine when they either didn't have the team size, or the required skills. TDUSC was worked on by 150 people for 6-8 years with a reboot between 2018 and 2020 (year in which I had my internship), and too my opinion, they were reaching too far beyond heir reach, which is also a mentality pushed by their long term publisher Nacon who by the way, want to become this AA publisher, but only being a rebrand of Bigben, litered with bad releases ranging from all of Cyanide's games to Gollum passing by KT games which was most probably pushed to compete with Codemasters. Now from my experience, when I came in, I never felt at home, everything felt like you needed to work and your integration only came through your achievements. I never felt helped and looked after. The technical director was my first point of contact and only gave off full of himself vibes, while understandably being overworked. The in house engine is Visual studio created and compiled, and was way far off what I had learned in video game programming school from Unity or Unreal, which contributed to my poor acclimatation to the company. I saw the game in its 2020 iteration, and it was hella bad, it was arguably still in pre production, looking super bad, running atrociously, with minimal interaction and dogshit in house online playests, all the while a super crisp teaser came out for the Nacon showcase video coming in parallel of the first summer game fest. I honestly think there are too many people at KT, working without proper skills for polished, pushed by a greedy publisher, AA releases. My internship ended wihout a contract offer because I was "too rookie with C++ fundamental issues and they didn't have time to coninue my formation as a junior", which was fair because I mainly developped in Unity C# a the time, but also which was not since they did nothing to help me or even point it out when they saw those issues. Now though I own my own development studio so take that info as you wish.
Great information, as I feel there should be more transparency with the inner workings of game studios nowadays. You don't really get to experience passion anymore outside of indie game studios imo. The capitalizing of gaming has unfortunately led to these debacles since there is obviously widespread disconnect with the vision and final products. Games would release finished, sure there were bugs, but they had an end goal in mind. Release day would be 85-99% of the vision and what couldn't be accomplished was rolled into DLC. This new era has yet to have me excited for an upcoming release.
If this is in fact a true story, I’m not very surprised at all. Just takes one look at this end product to clue into the fact that there were serious issues throughout the production pipeline
@@UltraViolet_Moses It is a true story, and I hope I was able to give you my most objective view on the situation being only an intern in the immediate post covid era.
They need to make the game offline ,make the ai easier or put a easy normal and hard choice and also more cars. This would make the game so much better
They tried so hard not to “copy the old games” that they created a generic mess that has almost nothing over established racing games. The pursuit of the big racing games audience really backfired, since they’re not able to pull them because of the lack of content, and they can’t retain the long time fans of the franchise because this game doesn’t have the lifestyle part of a TDU game. They were given two turtles to watch over and both of them managed escape.
Yes, that's really weird. They always insist that they listen to our feedback. What have we been trying to tell them all these years? We wanted a game in the style of TDU 1 and 2 with improved physics and graphics. But that's exactly what the developers don't seem to understand or don't want to understand. In their last video they even said that they don't want to make a new TDU 2.
@@benn87 they wanted to reinvent the wheel so bad they actually shot themselfs on the foot. Had they sticked with the original formula, this game would’ve been a success (if the launch wasn’t this poor either). But they just had to make TDU this competitive multiplayer game, as if we don’t have enough of those already, and then it just became one in the crowd, instead of setting it self apart from every other game in the genere.
Am I the only one who wants the simpler art styles back. I don’t care about every single game being the most realistic looking game. I want detail in variety and depth not the detail in the light scattering that scorches my gpu.
To be fair, most racing games of the past aimed for a realistic art style. This game genuinely looks terrible and far worse than all of the competition. NFS Unbound, Crew Motorsport, Horizon 5, Motorsport 8, GT7, and F1 2024 all look significantly better and run significantly better. Unique and more simplistic looking racing games were always the exception not the rule
This isn't a TDU title at all, plain and simple... It's a Forza Horizon/The Crew mishmash (that fails horribly at both by the way) with some TDU elements to it. While in a conversion with friends I mentioned how it's okay to venture into newer territory with your game, but you shouldn't do so at the expense of disappointing your core audience which is exactly what KT has done here. Who knows, the devs have apologized and made a bunch of promises, so maybe they'll pull a No Man's Sky?
@@benn87 holy.. you're actually right 💀 It's a stretch and I know it, but you could call the devs addressing the community a "form of apologizing". Nevertheless, I rewatched the video and it really is pretty much a nothing burger with the added bonus of the devs patting themselves on the back for doing the absolute bare minimum while gloating for making so many promises to the public lol
Let's be real, you can't pull a No Man's Sky if no one is playing your game, if it has less than 1000 online players. No Man's Sky devs continued to work on their game, because tons of players believed their and Sony's PR bullshit and actually bought it, actually played it each day (devs words), because they had a small team, small financial overhead, etc. it was reasonable to improve the situation.
I don’t tolerate new racing games. I only play Need For Speed Most Wanted (2012) everyone clowned on it when it came out, understandably, but now it feels like a breath of fresh air. Even after 11 years, it never gets old to me. The dirty, untextured map, early 2010s (amazing) soundtrack and the small yet character-rich selection of cars will never shift the game from its seat close to my heart.
I was turned off by the online. A game like this should be singleplayer with a chance of multiplayer if the player want it. It is sad, that games are online.
im so glad i didn't pre-order this game but sad it released in its current state, the tdu series was a cornerstone of my childhood and was one of the most unique racing games of its time. SC just feels likea half assed attempt at being tdu

And that's also the reason I still like Forza Horizon 4 & 5 and even newer NFS games - at the very least Forza is still PERFECTLY FUNCTIONAL even if you have potato connection, and NFS servers are always stable. In short, KT Racing bit more than they could chew, and they absolutely REFUSE to admit it even until now; 300 bugs fixed in the newest patch? Well how about I tell you that NONE of those bugs should've existed from the get-go!? Them as developer of a game belongs to Test Drive IP is a total DISGRACE to the franchise.
thing is NFS and Forza allows you to play the game completely offline, so you still get to play these games despite of poor or nonexistent internet connection, which isn't the case with Test Drive Limited Solar Fraud
one of the reasons this happens is the company underpaying the developers, such as Overwatch 2 devs, who were paid a really small ammount to get everything done; this may have happened to the developers of "solar clown", while i do agree 300 bugs is excessive, i will state that whenever a game releases, there is always bugs, glitches, gamebreaking stuff, the only reason the game has come to an early release is for players to test out the game and give feedback about bugs, how the game feels etc, "solar clown" sure fell off, but might be able to come back if they do the right choice to start listening to community feedback and make the game feel like its old counterpart, except the big map thing.
I waited for this game for so long, but still didn't buy it because it is unfinished. I will keep it on my radar though, if the developers listen to the fans and fix it, I WILL buy it.
Don't even think about it. It's a shameful scam, it's not just unfinished. Also the game design and graphics feel cheap, like a mobile game of some sort.
With how bad the economy is, it feels like they're setting up for a (surprise!) introduction of microtransations to help "satiate" those who want to get through the grind faster.. Maybe things such as paying to get rid of the half payout system, or for straight up money...
And it's such a shame that this the ONLY game (to my knowledge) that is 100% arcade, which is rare to see on a flood of simcade/sim racing games lately. We need arcade race games back.
To be fair, releasing games of dubious quality and putting it on hiatus is pretty much a tradition of the series since the 90s. That's how Test Drive originally has lost the title of THE exotic car racing game series to Need For Speed during the Windows - PSX era. .
I'm glad you broguth up the map in the way you did. As much as the game has a ton of other issues, the map isn't one. I keep seeing people complain about the map getting smaller, but it's still huge, first of all, and second it's so dense. With the Horizon titles or even Need for Speeds, the cities are kinda extremely small. Those games only have like 12 blocks of city total which is pretty pitiful and doesn't give me the proper street racing fantasy. This game has huge city portions, and most of the coast portions of the map are city. Unfortunately, that fantasy ends there considering how many problems the rest of the game has
Test Drive Solar Crown is like a cake made out of baking soda, oil and flour. On the outside it’s decorated in the sweetest icing with cool designs and looks like a cake. Then you cut into it and at first it taste like one but then you starting chewing and you realize really quickly this is not a real cake. It has a bunch of key ingredients you can taste that are missing. Same goes for TDUSC it looks like a TDU game it has some of its DNA but you get to actually playing the game. Then realize this is not a real TDU game it has a bunch of core elements that are missing.
The best way I can sum up TDU right now is that its discount forza. The forgot the social aspect which was huge. TDU2 didnt have the best handling and racing but the social aspect, the cruising, shopping, houses casinos etc made up for it. When you bought a car in TDU2 it felt rewarding, now they just set random arbitrary non grounded prices. I dont mind them focusing on the racing part so much, as having a tdu game with good racing would be great, but its core it still gone.
I was really excited for this game because i loved TDU2 and really wanted a modern experience, but when I realized that wasn't what we were gonna get I didn't even bother buying it. Them stating that something as important as housing is years away from happening is just not a good sign.
car list is kinda mid to me (even though they added most cars from tdu2, there are still some iconic ones that are missing) they didn’t add there isn’t any one-77 which is the cover car of TDU2 (I guess) no pagani zondas no ccxrs not even the special versions of the Bugattis from tdu not to hate or anything but I just hoped for them to add atleast these cars at launch

All they could have done to get me to buy the game, was not make it a forced online game. Just sayin. Edit: I'm glad they didn't, cause wow, that game is bad.
Ultraviolet, you nailed it-Solar Crown is definitely a charming disaster! 😅🚗 It’s wild to see such a highly anticipated revival fall short in key areas, but your deep analysis perfectly captures both its potential and its flaws. It’s tough when a game doesn't live up to its legacy, but your critique offers hope for improvement. Here's to seeing Solar Crown evolve into the game we all dreamed it could be! 🌅🎮
I knew this game would be a disaster when I've played the very first playtest in late July last year and then gave the demo a try during Steam Next Fest before summer this year, there was a small improvement, but not justifiable for nearly a year of difference. The core of the game is pretty good, but everything around is just atrociously neglected or simply missing. Graphics are subpar and along with the optimization, the technical aspects of the game really don't justify it running this poorly even on PCs with way better GPUs and CPUs than the consoles. If we are comparing this to the closed and insider program of The Crew 2 and Motorfest respectively, in case of 2 I ran it on a GTX 1070 at 1080p and a quite a weak i5 4440 even at that time and managed to get good performance without dips below 60, Motorfest on a Zen 2 R7 3700X ran ok-ish with a 3080 yet the full game runs quite well. This game barely gave me 60fps at 1440p with medium settings and DLSS set to quality and most of the post process either turned off or set to low. Truly don't know how they thought that this graphics and performance combo will be well received on the PC, but it needs another year of polishing before I'll give this game a try. I was hyped for it when they've shown the pre-rendered trailer, but after that my hype was turning into a worry. And rightly so... To add my final point, I knew that the always online nature would be hurting the game a lot and I expressed my worry on the playtest discord, though mine and many other's worries fell on deaf ears with some defending it if we don't want anti-cheat and DRM on the PC. I understood their POV, but limiting the game fully to always online without giving the players a bit more freedom or design the game more carefully with always online in mind was a terrible move from KT/Nacon.
And their excuse for "we wanted anti-cheat" was pure bs, there are cheaters on the game. Lots of them. The world record times for certain races are a proof of that. So they ruined the whole architecture of the game for literally no reasons whatsoever
The online only design philosophy ruined what could have been an underdog breakout success story this year. Imagine if this game blew up and the next Forza Horizon adopts some of what makes TDU special. Honestly the bones of the game is still TDU and still great, but there is the disease of forced online integrations embedded within it.
This is a shame really, I was excited for this game after TDU2. My favorite thing about that game was starting it up, going to one house to start the day nice and early in one of my simple fun cruisers, drive out to one of the houses I had where my absolute favorite cars were at. One a small house holding a beautiful few classic cars fit the bill, small place nothing special beautiful muscle car in the garage type deal. The other a super high end place with some of the worlds rarest and fanciest cars on display. Then I'd meet up with another friend somewhere, usually rolling the windows down when we'd finally arrive and discuss where on the map might have a good photo location. We would take a "normal" drive out of town (if we lined up at a light, usually a bit of a rev and a quick inch forward, meant it was time for an impromptu drag race) followed by a spirited drive there on the back roads. Grab some photos, then maybe they'd say they got something new, and we'd cruise back to their place where they'd show me their new car or change to their house setup on the walk to the garage, we'd walk around and admire it, then I would grab something comparable to take the cars out and tear it up. They would wait to drive it further than home from the dealership until we got together to go have fun EXPERIENCING the new machine, that was the best part. That was the best thing, if that's not here, I am not playing until it is. I will wait. That feeling is worth it. One of the most wholesome digital driving experiences ever. That "This is what it would be like" feeling.
This game got a lot of hate and maybe rightfully so. But I see big things from it in a year if it gets supported that long with an offline mode. There are plenty of solid things to build on even with the many flaws.
The offline mode is not planned until the ‘End of Life’. If they carry on like this, the game won't even last a year. And then the offline mode will be a thing of the past...
I haven't played it but once I seen the LIMITED AMOUNT OF CARS FELT LIKE PLAYING MIDNIGHT CLUB LOS ANGELES. IT WAS SO MANY CARS THEY COULD BUY LICENSE WISE
at least you can customize your ride in Midnight Club LA to your heart's content (sorta) to make up for it's small car list, which unfortunately it wasn't the case Test Drive Limited Solar Fraud
People have been vocal to the devs since the initial reveal to not go the online-only path, they had a year or two to revert that decision, but nope deaf ears apparently.
I'm really interested in playing this game, but I'm completely over unnecessary always online games, everything to end like The Crew 1, imagine if TDU was a always online game, it would never became a classic
This game is designed with focus on multiplayer aspects and yet you barely ever encounter or interact with any random players, and you cant even play against players all over the world! Online-only with awful servers that dont have the capacity for a relatively small playerbase. A car list that is outdated. You get like 10 story related cutscenes the entire game. The graphics are so broken there are instances where even modded TDU2 looks better. The only positive things are the map and car sounds. Thats it. The physics are ok but honestly Horizon physics is leagues better. Theres not nearly enough going on for me to see potential to be honest. I predict the playerbase will dwindle, and sooner than later the game will be barren. What a massive shame for long time fans.
Theres two games that is not gonna be up to its hype, Night Runners and Paralives. Both games have Patreon support, so they will likely not get it finished for years on.
I don't have a strong attachment to the Test Drive IP, however, this entry sure seems like the definition of yet another modern racing game, with a lot of dorito sized asterisks to it, where the new iteration of a racing franchise jumps one or 2 steps forwards, and rolls back double the amount of them backwards What really cracks me up, and this is probably beating a dead elephant in the room, but it really seems like gaming companies are this tone deaf to what the consumer wants in regards to the always only DRM debacle, as well as everything associated with it, because it's pretty much the pure definition of insanity, ever since 2010 with something like the release of Assassin's Creed 2 on PC, a game that also had this exact issue in regards to server stability in order to let the people, who bought this product with their hard earned money, be able to launch and play it in the first place I don't want to be a negative nancy here, but this game makes yet another good case for those who claim that the gaming medium probably needs to crash, and this piece of entertainment media, made with tangible negligence, is possibly enough proof of it
@@adlibbed2138 I'm starting to doubt that game companies even need to sell us games anymore. They are just going to operate much like crypto where people are buying and trading just on a speculation of what "could be" without any actual tangible value ever being created. Journalists will continue to pretend like everything is fine, and that's all the shareholders need to see. All they care about are the shareholders anyway, so why would we continue giving them hundreds of dollars for unfinished live-service slop? I'm afraid even if we completely boycott these companies and they don't make a single profit on another game again, they will continue to exist just on the faith of shareholders alone. The shareholders only care about short-term profits like buying when it is low and selling when it is high, so they don't need the company to be successful long-term. These publishers will just continue to release terrible game after terrible game just so they have something to show for it. It's not like another game company is going to fill the void, because they already bought them all up and liquidated them. The whole market is just so far gone, I don't have much hope. It's really sad everything we've been robbed of by corporate greed.
And with money being scarce and hard to earn a decent amount of until level 55, KT thought it’d be funny to increase the prices of all Special Edition cars by ** 300% **
It makes you wonder why KT Racing butchered Solar Crown when the devs mention their competition is not just Forza Horizon, but a fucking GTA, is delulu
>GTA 6 not even Ian Bell of ex Slightly Mad Studios we're this deluded when his ill fated F&F game starring Vin Diesel is gonna murder NFS for 6 years straight
Modern car culture is horrible so i like they didnt go all in on it. We lost so much stuff irreversibly. When TDU1 came out you could spec out good chunk of ferraris and all Lamborghinis with manual transmissions. Bad souding 2.0L fartbox suvs and hatchbacks in same dullness thousand indistinguishible "flavours" didnt ruin the market, and manufacturers tried to be truly unique, Alfa Romeo still made models with V6 Busso. I'm glad they didnt focus on what we have now as only thing. Sensation of speed and sound is paramount and i love the fact they focused on it especially when TDU1 and 2 sucked so horribly at both.
Truly a sad thing to have happened. We were all hoping for the return of the king. The fact nobody ever since TDU managed to be inspired from it or build upon it is nothing but a proof how out of touch game developers are. We are doing nothing but shout out loud what we want and we are ignored.
Very good review, I agree on almost everything. I was an hardcore fan of TDU 1 and 2, and I'm very disapointed. Not a bad game, but not a great game, and not so much a TDU. And hearing the last Dev Diary is not making me very optimistic...
What nobody discussed about TDU games is what it meant and what could mean to the players. I've spoken to a handful of players who played TDU1/2 and there was a returning arch: it was an escape from reality. In TDU you were rich, drove your dream cars, bought beautiful houses, cruised around wonderful scenery. Yes, there were challenges, like licensing, doing dozens of races to buy one car, climbing up the ranks... But it was the perfect ammount of grind that gave a satisfactory pleasure when you finally bought THAT car and could just shift up and cruise. I literally have memories tied to locations and events in real life tied to TDU2. I know exactly what part of Honolulu I was when my crush texted me, what license was I doing when discovering my now favourite music artist, etc... And I'm not alone. In this game you could have a dream home with dream cars, even if irl you were living in a cramped apartment with almost no personal space, you could escape to Ibiza or Honolulu and take shelter in this world. TDUSC has none of that to offer. The world is empty, every corner in the city screams its a videogame. This is supposed to be a busy city, yet it feels more like a post-apocalyptic scenery. In Ibiza it made sense that there wasn't any traffic jam, as most of its roads are basically backroads on the island and there isn't a big city like in Hongkong Island. Honolulu has something similar, but for most of the map it did not feel out of place. Another aspect is that the styling of the interiors in TDUSC are unhinged. Humongous empty spaces with a few non-interactive animated models of humans, very few cars and even those are repeating. You can't connect to this, you don't feel like you're in a real hotel or a dealership. These places are so detached you can't immerse in there. The starting caravan felt personal and real, and it made you savour the purchuase of your first home more than anything. They should've gone with a more grounded approach.
When any beloved series gets get the reboot treatment by an unrelated company (especially if it was shelved), I am extremely skeptical if they don't name their reboot as a numbered entry to the series like before, for example: Grand Turismo Sport, EA Sports WRC, Watch Dogs Legion, Fallout 76, Battlefield Hardline, just to name games that fell way below the standards of their series. Numbered entries means the series itself has all the recognition the game needs, people know how good it is and every game lives up to the name of the series, in addition, each game is different enough that people don't need fancy names to differential between them (everyone knows how GTA 4 is different from GTA 5). If your reboot suddenly needs a fancy name, you are doing it because you know it is very mediocre, so you add separation from the rest of the series to avoid comparisons, and make it more noticeable to general gamers who stumble upon it (fans of the series certainly won't be making them take notice).

The run having a massive map that contained all of it's scenery and biomes would've made it such an immersive place to spend time.
Yes I definitely agree! Still to this day, I find myself playing and appreciating The Run for those reasons too.
The issue with GTA is that the absolute fastest car in the game goes like 140 MPH, driving at 240+ MPH would be basically impossible with the density.
@@thejusmar i know, it has a lot of limitations and problems. I think a combination of GTA's traffic and pedestrians with semi-realistic behaviour with the road and world design of nfs run would be perfect for a casual open world racing game.
The only thing they actually got spot on was the Covid filled city with no people walking around

Even NFS Shift had animated gearshifts 15 years ago!
the lack of innovation is plauging all sorts of racing game franchises.
@@hgmd3284 All thanks to the current state of AAA publishers thinking stockholders> gamers that buy their games, is why innovation is no longer a thing, not just for racing games, it's across the board fps, mobas. Etc. If you noticed after the 360/PS3/Wii era.
100 cars is enough? Lmaooooo 😂🤡
You’re an idiot.

Because if anyone wants to play just another generic live-service racing game, other games have already done it "better" anyway. There's no reason to play this if it has nothing more to offer.
Makes you wonder why they would bother using the name of a more niche title if they were just trying to compete with every other racing game anyway.
I'd atleast give Forza Horizon props for not being online 24/7. TDUSC is more akin to The Crew than it is to FH.
@@CGGS_0 but even the crew doesnt force/require online lobbie generation pre race excluding the actual grand race, sure tcmf is 24/7 online but it's been promised to get an offline mode but even with 24/7 online its signifficantly more stable than tdu sc and more importantly it more enjoyable the tdu sc, if fh6 launches in 2025 along with gta6 tdu sc will pretty much be dead in the water.

No dealerships
No houses
No garages
No social areas

Exactly. If you release a game from an established franchise without its unique features, don't be surprised if people get upset.
Fun fact The crew 2 and motorfest has that option of picking trim options for specific car models which I something l love about the game like the wheels , interior colour
NFS has that option but rarely have it
What Solar Crown should have been was a GTA Online without any weapons. Just fast cars, expensive properties and many illegal races.

Or in order to fulfil the mismatches in terms of the tdu name the devs could do the following

2. Redesign dealerships along with houses to be more lifelike
3. End game championships that unlock at level 60 that work in a similar manner to the tdu2 championships
4. The introduction of more classes such as sports muscle and classics (or return to ABC)
5. Solar edition cars for beating clan members

I want good singleplayer experiences I can enjoy forever.
Test Drive has always been a social online game lol

Honestly all TDU solar crown has done is make me want to play TDU2 more
The final nail in the coffin that is the genre known as Racing Game
Where did the devs apologize? All I've seen in their latest video is excuses and glossing over and downplaying problems. There were no apologies...
@@benn87 holy.. you're actually right 💀
It's a stretch and I know it, but you could call the devs addressing the community a "form of apologizing".
You could say that about TDU1&2 as well. Test Drive was known to be a closed track circuit game before TDU came out.

"The Always Online Curse" is why I DESPISE Solar Clown (yes, ☀🤡 ) and KT Racing as a whole.

Anti-Grinding measures are stupid. On NFS Heat, I had to mod my game to reset race payouts so my friends could grind faster.
What game designer thought we wanted crazy inflation and unaffordable luxuries in the game too?
So all this time and it STILL comes out in pre alpha with online only. It kinda deserves to crash and burn.

8:36 making FOV 140 will increase fake sense of speed but will make your card into a sausage.

Well said
And their excuse for "we wanted anti-cheat" was pure bs, there are cheaters on the game. Lots of them. The world record times for certain races are a proof of that. So they ruined the whole architecture of the game for literally no reasons whatsoever
Live service games literally don't work or make money, but companies keep doing it.
I bought it, It's ok, just a little.....weird.
After playing “Car Driving Indonesia” on Roblox I realised what a missed opportunity TDUSC was.
Glad this game is flopping always online games are shit as we’ve been shown by Ubisoft robbing people of the crew 1
TDU 1 was simply groundbreaking. It’s physics were some of the most realistic at that point and it lead the way for FH.
I miss charming disasters. None of the disasters these days are charming, they're just depressing and/or sinister
WAIT no Pagani? This is outrageous (not really just disheartening)
I have somewhat lost hope since I heard the lead developer say the game is focussed on 'racing' and they want it to be that kind of game.
sometimes its better to let things die.
and this is exactly one such cases along with Ubisoft, which will give an example of how not to run a company right
I'm really interested in playing this game, but I'm completely over unnecessary always online games, everything to end like The Crew 1, imagine if TDU was a always online game, it would never became a classic
Kudos for mentioning Night Runners, willing to see a video on this one in the future.
Theres two games that is not gonna be up to its hype, Night Runners and Paralives. Both games have Patreon support, so they will likely not get it finished for years on.
@PandaTruenoo the nightrunners dev said its supposed to hit 1.0 next year ( i do not believe that for a second )
I don't have a strong attachment to the Test Drive IP, however, this entry sure seems like the definition of yet another modern racing game, with a lot of dorito sized asterisks to it, where the new iteration of a racing franchise jumps one or 2 steps forwards, and rolls back double the amount of them backwards
What really cracks me up, and this is probably beating a dead elephant in the room, but it really seems like gaming companies are this tone deaf to what the consumer wants in regards to the always only DRM debacle, as well as everything associated with it, because it's pretty much the pure definition of insanity, ever since 2010 with something like the release of Assassin's Creed 2 on PC, a game that also had this exact issue in regards to server stability in order to let the people, who bought this product with their hard earned money, be able to launch and play it in the first place
I don't want to be a negative nancy here, but this game makes yet another good case for those who claim that the gaming medium probably needs to crash, and this piece of entertainment media, made with tangible negligence, is possibly enough proof of it
the gaming industry at this rate, desperately needs a hard reset, the Kyoto Animation way
@@adlibbed2138 I'm starting to doubt that game companies even need to sell us games anymore.
Because KT are Incompetent sadly :(
>GTA 6
not even Ian Bell of ex Slightly Mad Studios we're this deluded when his ill fated F&F game starring Vin Diesel is gonna murder NFS for 6 years straight
They focused so hard on pvp that they failed to put a story part in
Truly a sad thing to have happened.
Game should never be online only
This is by far the best review of TDUSC. Good job.
Thank you
What nobody discussed about TDU games is what it meant and what could mean to the players.
52 min review is gonna be an amazing one to watch I do hope this game can get fixed and work at it's full potential
Better than ign
Don't set the bar so low. We're not playing competence limbo.
