The WRX TR is finally out and about in the world and I got my hands on one. I have to say its definitely what i expected it to be and a bit more. When it was first revealed in Florida last year I heard the sadness in the audience. To be fair what was changed wasnt visual so its hard to tell how youll FEEL about the car until you drive it. I encourage all of you test drive a TR before buying a Limited, at the very least. It was already a great car made even better.

Also, the TR gets the recaro seats everyone was asking for with the manual. Honestly a pretty good deal from the factory
For some reason, reviewers like to hate on this generation of WRX. Yet they'll give Honda all the passes with their $44k-52k FWD only cars

@@HeavyMetalWRX Yeah, they say they want a mechanical feeling shifter, and that's literally what you get with a Subaru. When I test drove an Integra, the shifter did feel high quality, but it didn't really feel mechanical. No clunk feeling going into gear. It made me think it was meant for like a video game.

Thanks so much! I felt like I kind of whisper talked. I'm not too accustomed to making videos in public and didn't want to bother anyone 😂. The TR is really good but tbh our 22s are good as well. I don't know if it's worth it to upgrade from a 22 or 23. But if you don't have a WRX then TR all the way.
@@HeavyMetalWRX You did fantastic my friend. Never had an issue hearing anything you were saying. Was crystal clear and very informative! It looked like you were having lots of fun driving the TR so I know it would be a good buy. I am not too concerned with keeping my 23 instead of the TR(even though the upgrades would be super nice) just gonna wait till the warranty runs out then do some tuning. As for now, gonna put a wing on it and maybe some newer Brembos just for the mountain driving. Thanks again for all your hard work and awesome videos.

Fun fact Awais! The wheels on the TR are the wheels from the concept Viziv we got for the VB STI many years ago. Also a lot of these dealerships are already letting go of the TR's for UNDER MSRP. I've seen 1-2k already off of these things. At 39-40k I think its solid deal.

Go for the TR save yourself time and money and have it all under warranty right out of dealership. Just Aftermarket parts Wheels Tires Brakes going to cost + $5-6k at least if your not going used.

I have more questions on the brembos that need some answering... I myself like you and many other VB owners don't want to or are unable to trade in to the TR. I want to, but for what I have done already, plus losing $ is not worth it. Might as well keep my build going and enjoy the process.
So I have been waiting for these instead of going the Rotora route or other mix/match setups. I am not seeing these brembos/rotors to buy on aftermarket sites or even subaru sites, so is the only way to get hands on these purchasing/ordering directly through a dealer? Would these fit with 18s? Stock 18s with no spacers?
Had an '11 WRX hatch and then a '21 STI....so tempting to get my third (hopefully, a TR)!!

Agreed it's amazing, I just traded my 22' for a 24' TR soo good, the break modulation is fantastic and so natural the balance and weight control is very rewarding. I just drive with a smile on my face. I don't think people realize how good it is.
Thanks for making this video and your contribution to the vb community. I truly think the vb chassis is a special one that is overlooked due to its initial release and disappointment from some die hards. BUT I test drove a TR and it’s amazing with the suspension improvement! I’d actually love to replace my base with a TR sometime in the near future. I think Subaru did a great job and makes very confidence inspiring cars.
I really appreciate the kind words. When I originally started this journey I figured I'd run out of content and only be able to out out a video a month or something. I am surprised by how much stuff is going on still around this one car. It seems like it just keeps getting new parts, new updates, new trims. It is quite exciting.
I was looking at the subaru website and it says the max boost pressure is 12psi on the comparison chart for the '24 WRX. I own a bone stock '23 and my peak amount of boost that I've reached reads 13.7psi. I keep hearing that nothing has changed engine-wise but I wonder if you've heard of any other cases like this with vb owners surpassing the 12psi "limit" with the stock/factory tune, or if you can remember having surpassed it yourself before you started modding yours?
Thoughts on a gtg at Sunset Hills to see the new TR? I usually got to Fusz but would be cool to see other Subies from the channel
I know people complain about the cost, but when you look at the cost of parts and the price of the other trims, to me this is a very value packed trim.
Which is why I decided to order a red tr model with the sti short throw shifter.
People aren't understanding that they can still get a base or premium. But if youw err gonna buy the parts why not get it from Subaru already built? Also grats!
The one complaint I have with my 2023 premium is the steering. I dont feel the road at all compared to cars I've owned. I'm also used to the signals. My mini had the bmw signals.
This TR have only have short throw shifter STI and transmission STI or is same to wrx 22-23

Awais, have you driven a VB with the Perrin steering dampener lockdown installed? I’m interested in your perspective on it and whether it approaches the improvement you felt with the TR.
I have actually but it's been a minute. My buddy has one so I'm gonna go back and drive it again and see. I think the TR still feels better.
I live in Canada I get lots of snow. The tr are 19 inch wheels. I'm guessing I can't get 18 inches because the brembo brakes won't fit??
Just got a 2023 WRB WRX Limited six speed that was BUILT December 2023 for 6 GRAND UNDER msrp. The key fob even says 2024 WRX LMTD model lol and I got 1.9% financing. The MSRP on my Limited WRB WRX was 39k with a few accessories and I got her for 33k!!! I was about to build a 24 Premium but I got this Limited WRB WRX for much less at 6 GRAND UNDER msrp. This is my sixth brand new WRX. I actually also have a 2022 Premium Ignition Red but that one I’m selling soon since the New WRB WRX Limited is perfect!!! The Alcantara Seats really feel so much better than the ones on the Premium. Getting 15% Llumar Ceramic tint all around next week. Then adding my 12” Kicker Comp R sub and possibly paint matching the fenders and rear number.

I absolutely love my WRX, but I kinda regret not waiting for the TR/RS but I love my 22. And my sunroof and my SOP color as well

Honestly; I do like this car. But not at this price point. I'm sure you saved a boat load of money vs this unit. Take that and get your brakes and suspension done and essentially you have the same car and I'm sure you got a sunroof. I can't get over the fact that this car doesn't have one. I can tell you from experience that my 21 came with Brembos.... no charge; there is a huge huge difference when you compare to the regular brakes. I would not spend the money on this. Subaru should have made this a special edition car by actually factory tuning it to be comparable to the competition.
In terms of eyesight you can leave the lane keeping off and just leave the warnings. I live in the mountains so I prefer not to have eyesight push me off the side lol.
Awais could you please tell me how you got Android Auto to use more of the head unit's screen? I have been asking Subaru since I bought my 2023 WRX about six months ago, and everybody claims to have heard about the complaints, but not about a solution. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. And yeah, getting a 2024 head unit with wireless connectivity to swap out the 2023 version would be great if not too expensive (and it was compatible!)

I actually have talked to two different dealerships, face-to-face with the techs, and Subaru of America over the phone, and all claimed ignorance of any TSB regarding the Android Auto issue. I don't really know what to believe except that thank goodness there's a whole community out there providing support beyond the lame efforts of dealership employees!

Haha it's actually Phrygian dominant scale. In my guitar scale learning I have only committed this one scale to full memory so almost everything I write is in this scale. Very Egyptian/Arabian and I love it. I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🤘
do we know if the steering is mechanically different from a normal wrx or is it just software, wondering if i can get that on my 23 base
As far as I know it's the same system just electronically adjusted. I do need to get confirmation on that, though.
I think the TR looks amazing, as with any car theres one or two things i dont like but if i could afford it and wasnt a couple grand deep in mods id trade in for it

Counting the days until my lease ends and I can start seriously looking at this one. And, I know I’m in the very small minority, but I love the looks and think this is the best looking WRX they’ve sold in America (which, I know, is a pretty low bar to clear, but still…)

I love the VB. Its like a trend now to hate on it, i find it amazing. 10-15% more horse power would have made it perfect.

I doubt it. OEM 18inch premium wheels are about 26lb where as the 19inch on the VA STi were 28lb. I imagine the weight would be similar as the specs are identical (19x8.5+55).
Did it have the STI solid steering linkage, rather than the rubber connected version?
It's the same electric steering as the 22-23. Just retuned.

@@matthewwain9958 tbh I don't know what id be looking for. As soon as the big Dawgs with lifts and mechanics shops get TRs lifted up idk if we'll find both. I'll make sure I ask around for these answers. I'm also curious.
@@HeavyMetalWRX the STI solid linkage is around a 200 dollar part, so I am kinda doubting they did, but it would be awesome if so. It goes where the Perrin steering stiffener would go basically. Will give minor feel and direct steering response feel.
I NEED a sunroof. So I think my best route will be to buy a barely used premium WRX with the sunroof, and then buy all of the TR parts.
That could be a way to go. I imagine eventually TR suspension will end up on the marketplace. I'm really interested in the steering and infotainment as well. If I can get these parts in gonna do a swap.

@@HeavyMetalWRX I think the issue with the stock (non-TR) suspension is that the damping is harsh (i.e. a little crashy). I've been in way stiffer setups that were more forgiving and a better ride.
Can you fit 18” wheels on this? Seems like the brakes might not clear

I have a 2019 STI with the 6pot Brembos, and I use 2016 WRX limited 18in wheel and it clears the Brembos
Does Subaru give the remote start with the TR?
It does not. Only the auto gets remote start.

It’s a little expensive next to the Elantra N. The Elantra N will run away from the wrx tr on track. The best wrx to buy is the base model, cheapest and lightest.
What does track performance matter on the street? 99% of owners of both cars will never see a track day. Also if you go back and look at what held the WRX back it was brakes. Also when you are comparing the EN you aren't cross shopping it for the TR. It would be against a base or premium. If you're looking at the TR you've already decided you want the WRX, and money isn't an issue.
Think I’ll keep my limited. I got it under invoice and I’m not even at 1000 miles yet. I’ll mod it to my taste
Idk if it makes sense for a lot of new owners to trade. Mine is a 22 with 33k miles. I would consider trading it if I could afford the payment. If you don't own a WRX then getting a TR is a really great option. People already like the limited. If you can get a TR for the same price how could you say no?

I want to like this car but I think its too much sizzle and not enough steak for the money. IMO it should have maybe 20 more HP and at least one exclusive paint color available that other WRXs don't have. There's a nice orange/red color on the Outback that would have looked good on this car. Maybe a yellow? Something to set it apart as a special model.
I like the wheels. Besides the brakes the one thing I'd really like to have the most on my '22 Premium would be the "Normal" turn signal switch 😆
Yea in surprised they didn't do a special color. You know that khaki green the Outbacks get is pretty badass. Imagine a WRX in that.
@@HeavyMetalWRX That's funny you say that - I was thinking the same thing. I mostly pick silver but that or a darker green would have made me seriously reconsider my default color of choice when I bought my '22 WRX.

In my ‘23 I can turn the one touch feature of the turn signal off and it acts like a regular switch. Have you looked in the vehicle settings?
@@dualsportPNW Your right- in the menu on my '22 I was able to change the goofy turn signal into a more normal operating one. You loose the three quick flash signal but that's ok. I like how it works now better.

If you missed out on a VA STI, maybe consider one of these. As a 2019 STI owner, I would never trade it for any new WRX.
If someone wants an EJ it's a totally valid vehicle. I just don't understand why people want to hate what they wouldn't buy? It's a fact that Subaru sold fair more WRX than STI. It's possible that over time Subarus creation of the VA WRX is in fact what killed the STI in the long run. I love the STI and I always wanted one. However discounting the new WRX just because it's not a STI doesn't make sense. For a WRX ( which is what it's meant to be, it's not meant to be a STI) it's still the best WRX that's been built.

Really wish I could justify trading mine in for one, but restarting my warranty countdown and redoing all my mods is a good enough reason to stop me lol
Yea I think this is more for people who don't own a WRX yet. We can still get some of these Katya for our Subaru through OEM anyway, for the most part.
not a subaru fan, personally i'd rather get the 'elantra n' but this subaru is actually pretty good, cant go wrong with getting it!
It comes down to what car you need. If you need AWD then you get a Subaru. If you don't you could get an Elantra N. When it comes to FWD cars there's far more competition. I think Elantra N needs at least another generation to get through the growing pains and for the aftermarket to grow. Its not fair to co oare it to a WRX which and been around for decades but that's really what holds the EN back tbh. I have done a race video against one. Stock for what it is it's great but it hasn't been without issue AND in my area it's subject to a lot of markup.
@@HeavyMetalWRX fair enough, i think realistically thats why i haven't bought the elantra n yet and im waiting for the next generation, (coming in next 3-4 years) hopefully by then the aftermarket becomes good and it gets the rumoured 2.5L or maybe the Htrac awd system, but here where i live (Australia) we don't get any markups only a few hundred dollar difference due to each 'state' tax which is basically nothing and since we get the elantra n straight from korea we get the more reliable version, unlike america with there alabama plant elantra n's, and these cars are really the underdog, beating GTI's and others in the similar class in drag races (depends on driver mostly) and tracks (not by much but still beats them) but again subaru just doesn't fit my specific requirements, nothing wrong with the car its a really good car i would recommend it for those looking at them but its just not for me!

You should do a race with WRX TR vs STI.
It wouldn't be any different than a bad or premium vs a STI. Nothing in the new car has affected it's straight line speed. Now what would be fun is seeing both cars go around autocross track in stock form.

I bought a 2023 Premium 2 weeks ago and the only complaint I have with the car is the steering wheel feel. It just feels too twitchy and light. I had a Civic Si and the steering wheel feel was perfect. But, I wouldn't want to spend the money to get the TR just for the steering wheel feel.
I'm actually looking forward to doing some part numbers research. See how much it'll cost to switch a few things. I think having the steering column and blinker would be kind of nice 👀👀
@@HeavyMetalWRX Cool. If I do any mods on my WRX, I think it will be the steering to make it heavier and maybe a rear sway bar upgrade to increase rigidity and decrease body roll. I'm perfectly happy with the engine and feel that it is more than adequate for a daily.
One question that keeps me from pulling the trigger is: Does it have an upgraded transmission or clutch?
No. None of the WRXs ever get a transmission upgrade. However my transmission is at 33k at 424tq.
Does this car come with an lsd ?
It is still open differentials with electronic brake torque vectoring Subaru calls VCD.
Damn man why you gotta call out us 40yo. I'm 40 and I'm doing all my install work, lol. Granted it takes so much longer to do the installs these days, and I'm taking long ass breaks, lol.
Hahaha my man, I'm with you. I'm 39 and every time I look at a new part to install my back starts hurting preemptively 😂😂 also I get vertigo form laying on my back and looking up at the car for too long. I legit have to take Dramamine when I work under it.

i'm 14-15 years older than you, thinking about a downgrade to this (the TR) from a '21 Cayman T simply due to practicality, ground clearance and the fact that i live in the SLC valley with an actual winter. i also want to mod it to at least Stg 2 and would be doing all of that myself because frankly, i miss that aspect of ownership. i don't dare touch the Cayman under warranty.
i've done two BBKs in the past, and it doesn't matter if you're old, young, somewhere in between, it CAN be a pain in the ass and will chew through a day if you run into any issues. time is money, and paying up front for a warrantied item like big brakes is just a sensible decision, IMO. my body can handle the work, but my sanity would suffer if something goes sideways.
i've optioned my version of the perfect TR up to $47.8K and can expect (per dealer) to purchase closer to invoice.
P.S. i'm a metalhead too. whatcha running these days? me, i'm in a mesa badlander 100H paired with a marshall jvm 210H in a stereo setup. primary gits are two ibanez prestige, hardtail RGs. 🤘
Yo that's awesome!! What I love about the WRX is you add practicality but you don't lose any of the fun. As for parts installs yea man, people don't truly realize how much time it takes. I have to redo my whole suspension this week to add the lift kit. For me that's going to be a whole day process, IF everything goes right lol. I think a lot of TRs will go under MSRP just like VBs have been. Just need to shop around. As for the metal, I wish I had a legit amount. I haven't had one in years since my daughter was born. I sold a lot of things to keep up with family life, money wasn't really flowing a few years ago 😭. So I've been using Neural DSP, bias fx2, and ezdrumner. I have a Jackson JS2 bass and Schecter C6 hellraiser. I really don't okay enough and have never been particularly good but I enjoy getting my own music. One day I hope to one an orange rockerverb amp and cab.

I should also say that i've had four STIs in the past, an '04 GD, '08 GR hatch, '12 GR sedan and lastly a '19 Series Grey. i'm intimately familiar with subarus and WRXs, even had two foresters and an '06 Legacy GT 5MT.

Base for life. Nothing beats buying a base and using the extra money to build it however you'd like. All the extra features on the higher trims are meh at best.

So glad I bought my 2019 STi 5 years ago…these are cool, but SOOOOOOO expensive and no Sti transmission and no hydraulic steering. And it’s about 6k more than I paid for a brand new STi. Not hating, just saying…they’ve gotten too expensive imo for what you get.
It's not considering all the prices of cars today. A new STI was 36k from 2015-2021 and that era just isn't anymore. When a new STI comes out it won't be 36k. So a lot of people have grief with the WRX but what you are actually getting is on par with what they had been getting even with older WRX performance packages. Majority of the hate is coming from people being upset that the STI was canceled and taking it out on the WRX. Even if you don't buy a TR there is no other brand new car on the market like the WRX. 🤷♂️

Did that TR have the STI short throw? Impressions? I got mine equipped with the above and its not the smoothest into 1st. Granted still need to put some miles on it. @@HeavyMetalWRX
@@williamholmes5796 it did have the sti short throw throw. Tbh I have it in my car as well and it's a waste of $300. Just getting an aftermarket copper bushing and shifter plate will do more for this transmission than the STI STS kit.

TR is same as STI with less HP.
TR was never meant to be a STI. It's just a new WRX, period.

I understand looks are hard for some people but if you haven't driven one you're doing yourself a massive disservice. Especially if you like WRX and Subaru. It's worth at least opening your mind to a test drive. Also the love and support that's in the community and aftermarket is, I feel as high as it's ever been if not higher.

The VB is all around, a decent platform. But Subaru is really losing its way with the WRX. There are better ways to spend 41k.
Tbh what is there? Golf R starts at $45k MSRP, Corolla Circuits sell for 50k in STL which is dumb, Civic type R are selling for $46k here. This TR I reviewed my dealer is willing to selling it for under MSRP. They don't sell much WRX here so they don't mind letting it go to an enthusiast. So when you see that 41k price when it comes to Subaru it's super negotiable unlike all the other cars. Sure you COULD hunt one of the others but tbh some people just love WRX and this one really is incredible. The tuning potential has been beyond what we expected. You get a TR throw a Cobb ap on it with some E and tbh I'd keep it that way as a daily forever. It really isn't always about "what else can I buy?". Sometimes people like what they like and money isn't the motivator.
@@HeavyMetalWRX I wouldn't compare it to anything like a Civic or Golf R. All of these cars are at a point it's so over priced it's laughable. I just finished a road trip with a GTI and yeah, it's a nice car. Handles amazing and has some great features...but the price? Lol okay.
You could spend a fraction of the price on an older Subaru which feels more true to an enthusiast car. Hell, you could buy a new BRZ for 10k less which is a true drivers car for what it is. Or a 2016-18 Mustang 5.0. A 135i, Mini Cooper, ND Miata, Focus RS...Is it new? No. But they have a more "enthusiast" feel than a VB. *Insert well you're going to have problems with it*...yeah that's part of building cars.
Yes, the VB money to power is cheap. But it's over-designed and the TR falls short as a "enthusiasts" car...IMO.

Can’t talk about mods add a Cobb etc.. some people value their warranty.. they don’t want a broken gearbox or engine knock. We need to judge the car as it’s released from factory not if you mod this or tune that.

HONESTLY, I THINK ITS STRANGE HOW YOU SAY YOUR STEERING WHEEL FELT LOOSE..NEVER HAD ISSUES AND MY BUDDY TALKED ABOUT HOW RESPONSIVE THE STEERING WAS WHICH LED ME TO LOOK AT A VB....BUT EACH CAR HAS A SLIGHTLY UNIQUE CHARACTHER..IT WILL EXTREMELY EASY TO SWAP OUT THE SEATS, BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, FACTORY BREMBOS..I GOT MY CAR FOR 34K AND CAN EASILY DO THESE MODS AND EVEN GET BIGGER BRAKES, BETTER SEATS ETC FOR WAY CHEAPER PLUS I KIND OF LIKE THE SUNROOF. PLUS IF I WANTED TO AUTOCROSS OR RACE BALLS OUT JUST DO A SUNROOF DELETE..DONE IT ON CIVICS,CRX AND GSR INTEGRAS PLUS NISSANS AND MY OLD AUTO X GC8. IM MORE OF A BUILD MY OWN BUT FOR THE NON MECHANICAL GUYS GO GET IT AND AT LEAST SUBARU GAVE US SOMETHING I GUESS.
You know, people always say "I can easily do those mods" and it's true you can but that's a good 6-8k out of pocket. It's actually more digestible when you buy the car and just worry about the payments. The steering and always been a bit loose, not bad but it could have used a bit more refinement.
This WRX can suck my cack, Subaru has ruined the WRX. Bring back the STI. Give it 400 or more HP and make it look more aggressive.

This car is so disappointing. It's basically the STI without the extra power and STI drivetrain.
Idk why everyone keeps expecting them to put a STI transmission in this. It's a WRX. They have never done that in the past so this expectation will always be met with disappointment. The car is fantastic. It's just like when the VA got the power package with the brembos. It was meant to be a WRX, not a STI, and it does that incredibly well.

I noticed no one was making content for the VB so I took a chance. Turns out the tmmmvb is a beast and I've loved every minute of it. There's nothing to cope for. It's like that's the only thing people like you can say because people like me are ACTUALLY ENJOYING and people like you just wanna hate. It's cool. I'm not stressed at all. Car makes 380whp , handles great, comfortable for my family. What else more could I ask for.
Subaru lost a whole generation by killing the STI. Nobody wants to pay for a WRX anymore, it’s boring. I’m bout to put in my order for my Corolla GR and I’m going to be very very happy.
Subaru has sold 44k WRX worldwide since the release of the 2022. Their sales figures are public so I'm particularly unsure where you are getting your information from. I understand if people don't like the model but I have spoken to a lot of Subaru folks. The reason they stop producing cars is because not enough people buy them. Believe it or not, as awesome as the STI was it wasn't particularly popular and the reason that was the case was more people opted for the cheaper WRX. The STI IS coming back. It needed a serious rework after 30 years. The problem is it won't be under 50k. So if you don't like a more performance oriented WRX you may not like where the STI is going.
Good luck ordering a gr corolla. Low production numbers, limited availability, waiting lists, dealer mark ups. A lucky few have managed to get one for msrp, however they have to get what's available. Meaning it may not be the color, trim, or options you want.
A gr corolla was my first choice. I do believe it is a more solid car from the factory than the wrx, but... I got tired of mark ups and unavailability.
With subaru, so much more availability.

Subaru cares more about selling bland Mom cars than supporting car enthusiasts. The TR package is an afterthought to them. It’s basically like throwing food scraps and a man dog and saying “be happy with it.”

Where as the WRX evolved every generation the STI stayed the same. It doesn't matter if you're in your 20s or 60s you're objective reasoning still tells you that a LOT of people still buy WRX just like they did last generation, and the generation prior. This whole entitlement about "omg they didn't make a STI f them" is kind of weird. STI owners were in the minority. This is a fact. Im Not saying there shouldn't be a STI. I would love a new STI, but shitting on a car because it's not the one YOU wanted is pretty ignorant. Also I'm sure when a new STI comes out most people won't even buy it because it's not going to be $36k. There's a lot of emotions right now because of the cancelation of the STI.
