I agree with Mason. it's a good movie but not a magnum opus. I found Aladdin eons better. I don't like disney songs in general either but in Aladdin I actually do like few songs, that's a feat
It's so weird, because Mason is usually so positive and tries to give everything the benefit of the doubt, but his heart is just frozen to this charming movie lol
I don't think he was criticising it for being sincere, he says it's sincerity didn't land with him. Maybe if the movie took a more tounge in cheek approach to those scenes, they would have been funnier. He is talking particularly about jokes with that comment. Sincere jokes are very funny if you like them and very unfunny if you don't. Tounge in cheek jokes are less funny because their being lampshaded but they're easier to laugh at because they're less serious. Take Rick and Morty for example, they rarely tell a joke without one of the characters making fun of the joke. The jokes are insincere so if the audience thinks the jokes are obvious then they get to laugh at the response to the joke instead. Ultimately though, the show has hardly anything to say about anything, and the jokes usually result in a long exhale from the nose rather than a sincere chuckle. As a kid I tended to agree with Mason, Disney's humour rarely landed with me. By contrast DreamWorks had a bit more edge to it and I used to find them funnier. I remember going to see Disney animated movies at the cinema with my Grandad and he'd be laughing a deep belly laugh at every single joke. Seeing him laugh at things I thought were "too easy" made me realise that I was taking these things (and by extension, myself) a bit too seriously and then I'd laugh along too. We're all much funnier and cleverer these days but sometimes I miss sincerity in humour. These days things are so drenched in irony you can have your cake and eat it to, but somehow that's just less satisfying.

The scene is symbolic.
Ah someone other than my family that doesn’t like the lion king
A more accurate title: “Millions Of People Hate Mason”
this was painful to watch..
@super salty
Or because he genuinely didn't like it?
Is it compulsory or something?
"this was painful to watch.."
So don't watch?
@@stickiedmin6508 man this was a year ago

It's never too late to revive an old argument.
This is what TH-cam is *_for_* . . .
@@stickiedmin6508 you caught me too late I don’t even know why I watched it anymore
Have Mason try old Disney. My favorite Disney movie ever was Robin Hood. Easily the best version of Robin Hood besides Errol Flynn.
Mason clearly has heard so much hype for the film for so long he's letting that effect his views on the film. Like you don't have to think it's great but you can at least admit it was well crafted and better than the average animated movie
No, actually you do have to admit it's great
Haha I can't accept that he's being serious
I think you're going through cognitive dissonance, friend
Actual Realistic Lion King: Simba returns, defeats Scar, then slaughters Scar's cubs to bring his lioness harem into estrus
You guys are the funniest TH-camrs to me you crack me up every video, any topic it just doesn't matter you guys crack me up every time. thank you so much!
Ben, this is some of your best work! Really fckin funny edits :)
You guys are the BEST movie reviewers EVER..
“Be Prepared” is the greatest Disney villain song of all time. There, I said it.
"Hellfire" would like a word with you.
I agree
5:52 When you put it that way 😂😂😂😂
The guy watching this 5 years later is crazy
Now I know Mason is completely heartless and also crazy, I'm not sure I'll be able to continue listening to the podcast. Well, it was a good run, I'll miss it. 😂
Good for you. You don't want Mason to rub off on you, or you may find yourself on a baby punching spree.
PLEASE DO “Who Killed Captain Alex”
"but that's not how it WORKS in Lion King society!" 😂😂😂
4:18 gotta love how hard James is trying to sell Mason on _something_ in this movie
the editors of ur videos are very good, good job editing team!
The lion king is one of the greatest archetypical stories of all time
But this video is hilarious 😂
Caleb Ford it’s aight
It is basically Hamlet with lions.
More like one of the worst
the lion king is a rip off of kimba
@@literallyvergil1686 yes, but people don't get that idea
Forget Area 51, we’re storming Mason’s home after this video
Ragerodracir oh
im with mason on this one, but its my secret that i never say out loud. i don't want people to think i'm a sociopath lmfao
Mason was 100% right! I'd say he was 150% right, but that's not how math works. Thank you Mason, for representing!
I've come to the conclusion that Mason might be a alien
I thought Mason would've been more balanced with his analysis. My reaction was similiar to the GOAT.
Mr. Grab that gem and Mr where's my pasghetti..YOU GUYS MADE MY DAY... was having a crappy morning but the classic mason doesn't like any Disney movies in the 90s before or after so they're going to watch them individually video is great thanks guys
I love The Lion King because I grew up with it and nostalgia and all that and I still very much enjoy it but seeing it through the eyes of an adult I completely understand Mason and respect his viewpoints BUT James' complete befuddlement is so fucking amazing
Mason, I like the Lion King well enough. But to make you feel better about not liking it, remember Simba is happily singing "Oh I just can't wait to be king!" and then... his father dies. Simba is a little shit.
So when Elton sings “Can you FEEL, the LOVE, TONIGHT???”
Mason’s response is “Nope”.
I think a lot of people get so wrapped up in the music and animation (and nostalgia) that they forget how fucking boring and pointless the actual story is. The characters also leave a lot to be desired in my opinion as-well.
I'm with Mason; The film is fine but over-rated as hell.
This comment can be applied to most Disney "Renaissance" movies lol. I love the one where the girl has to get a guy to fall in love with her in 3 days without being able to talk
Kudos, not many devils are quite so affront.
Even as a kid, when this came out, i thought it was shit. Never understood why it was so popular
I still agree with me
Mason, you’re a squidward. That’s all I have to say
Can we all agree that James’s grandpa is a badass
Don't show him Hamlet, because Lion King is literally the plot to Hamlet but with characters as animals
