    If you have a bike built in the last 15 years or so then you probably have a fuel injected machine. Which often begs the question - do I need a fuel injection controller ? And that isn't exactly a yes or no question. Its a nuanced answer that depends on certain factors of modification and what state of tune you desire. No matter what the FI controller you choose it as only as good as its O2 sensor, we break that down for you to give you the base knowledge o get you started on your way to a decision.

    During this description a key piece of information was left out.
    Why do they use narrow band sensors if they're not as good at determining the error in the exhaust mixture.
    The answer is that narrow band sensors are faster at producing a result.
    But the viewers would prefer at least some reason why there's two distinct types.

    Narrow band, don't sniff. As they get hotter they produce a voltage, that tells the ECU that the bike is running rich or lean. ECU then switches between a lean and rich map.

    NICE VID EVEN THOUGH I PUT SHOT SHOT V&H PIPES I DEBAFFLED THOSE SUCKERS AND IT FEELS FINE BUT AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AND IT READS THE CODE FOR THE O2 SENSORS . SO MY QUESTIONS ARE IS THE WIDE BAND O2 SENSOR SHOULD FIX IT? AND WUT BRAND DO THE J&P GUYS RECOMEND FOR A 2019 SPORTSTER 48?🤔

      Most likely not unless you’ve done major modifications (past stage 2). The FP3 isn’t set up to read wide band sensors without an additional piggyback V&H module anyway.

    Thanks Patrick. If you want to use your stock headers is it common practice to simply re-tap the stock 12mm bung for the 18mm wideband sensors? I ask because I've heard that a new bung should be welded and the stock one plugged, but re-tapping should be far easier and cheaper (and it looks like that what the HD 'M18 Oxygen Sensor Installation Tool' is for?)

    Running a Slim with a stage 3 and big shots. V & H do not produce a canned map for this so am looking at the autotune function...I'm also thinking wideband would give the ability to extract more all round performance from this set up...Interested in any thoughts you may have....Thank you

      I think a wide band system would definitely help your bike run at its best. I have found that the fp3 struggles at stage 2 and higher. I ended up switching to a Power Vision and couldn't be happier.

    I just bought FLFBS 22, the O2 sensors are attached to the end of the mufflers.
    I want to change the mufflers to get a better sound, is it OK to change it at home or do I need to do it at the dealership? Also, do I need to change the full exhaust system or I can change only the mufflers? What if I took the sensors out are the gonna effect the engine performance?

    If I install wide band sensors on my fully stock 2019 Heritage 114 will my stock system correct itself for the differences between lean and rich running?

    • @lamella64
      @lamella64 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sadly, no. Wideband sensors operate between 0 and 5 volts, where as nearrow band sensors can only go up to 1 volt. this means that even if you manage to hook up a wideband, it could just fry your input on the ecu. On top of that, the computer wouldn't know what to do with these voltages. between its full range of 0 and 1 volts, a wideband sensor reads in the ballpark of 14 to 15 AFR, while 0-1 volts on a wideband's 5 volt range is usually around 10.5 to 12 AFR.

    I have a 08 buell XB12 and when I purchased the bike it appeared to be running lean. Even the old Harley mechanic I had change the oil (wanted him to be familiar with the bike in case I ever needed something above my head) felt like it was running lean. Cracking a bit, kinda starving. I switched to a barometric sensor and open loop and it ran A LOT better. However, I have fouled two brand new plugs in less than 100 miles. It didn’t do that before. Did I make a mistake? Should I purchase a wide band sensor abs go back to closes loop? Still learning and exploring options but any advice.

    • @jaredpavatt4122
      @jaredpavatt4122 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jpcycles when i got the bike, just the stock exhaust/intake mechanism was removed and a “race” ECM installed. From what I’ve learned, moving to any aftermarket muffler requires this because only the Buell stock muffler and Buell race muffler has this mechanism installed. I added the barometric sensor and tune from a site called revision Moto because I felt like it was running very lean. There seemed to be several people against the barometric move and several people who loved it. I tried it and I think it’s better, maybe, than what it was. I simply want the bike in the best tuning shape possible. I don’t need any more horsepower than that monster 1200 will give me.

That doesn't sound right. They say that they make the adjustments in the ecm that's why it can run on the narrow band sensors. I have a pretty aggressive cam so, I'm confused
