. I have a question. About a year ago I took my 2005 Chevy Silverado 5.3 four-wheel drive truck to a mechanic to have new head gasket put in. Prior to that the truck ran great no smog problems whatsoever. When I picked the truck up from the mechanic he told me that it would run rough for a few miles but then it would be fine. Since then it never was fine. Runs really rough it gets really bad gas mileage, and a blinking check engine light when I hit the gas too hard. I bought a scanner that comes up with 4 codes. The first being the O2 sensor, the second being 4 misfires, another one is something to do with exhaust or something like that, and I can't really remember the last but it seems like it was all related to the same general issue with exhaust. I haven't taken it back to the mechanic who did the head job primarily because I take issue with a mechanic who takes no pride in his workmanship and would give a customer back a vehicle in worse condition than it had been before the head blew. Anyways just wanted to ask your opinion on the matter. I really like your videos you seem really knowledgeable where cars are concerned. I know you helped me out a lot. I'm a single woman and I don't have anybody to help me with a lot of things so I Rely on TH-cam videos a lot. I basically have like five different TH-cam master's degrees now! Would love to hear your opinion. Thanks
You should take it back to that mechanic and order him to rectify the situation. If the fault is something which the mechanic should've noticed and or repaired first time around, then negotiate a price (on parts) But if the fault is due to their poor workmanship, then don't pay them. I'm not sure which country you are in, although here in Australia, regardless of what the mechanics policies are with payment and pick up of vehicle. They cannot withhold your car pending payment. Tell them they will have to bill you. If they attempt to obstruct you from collecting your vehicle. Call the cops

I own a 2014 buick enclave 100k miles. I just replaced the oil and cleaned the throttlebody as usual every 4,500-5,000 miles. A day after the check engine light comes on, and P0174 codes is present, I have been looking for air leaks, cleaned the MAF sensor, replaced the PCV valve and checked the evap valve with out any good luck. The RPM continues up and down periodically on idle I just wondering if you have any idea what can be the reason for this code.
Your Buick prob has an electronic throttle body and you screwed it up by manually opening it but yah also check your intake for cracks do a smoke test or spray with very soapy water
What do you think of this. I had a turbo go, broke the shaft. I believe the wheel assembly was never balance right. So it broke and started burning oil. I replaced the cartridge and the waste gate was sticky. I had nothing with me to clean it as I was broken dn. I tried to manual free it up and installed it. Then on driving it was going into over boost, limp mode. Then on acceleration it started throwing diesel fuel and smoking. Then it threw a low voltage on the the O2 sensor. What do you think?
I replaced the upper O2 air sensor on my 03 Buick LeSabre. Code read Left Bank 1 too lean. So, replaced the sensor, no code now but when starting I have to pump the gas like crazy. Somewhere I've heard that resetting the sensor to the computer needs to be done. If so how? Like your video advice.

Just a random thought. If you put it in a cup of gasoline or carb cleaner and then put that cup in a ultrasonic cleaner. Would that be a better way to clean it
Using gasoline or carb cleaner in an ultrasonic cleaner is not recommended due to safety concerns-it’s highly flammable and could cause a fire. Instead, use a non-flammable, sensor-safe cleaning solution specifically designed for ultrasonic cleaners. I have the engine light and it threw a P00031 code. Mentioned something about a heater something Bank One. Looks like I need a new sensor. It is a Toyota so I might want to maybe pay extra for a Denso sensor ?
Yes, the P0031 code refers to a heater control circuit low for the O2 sensor in Bank 1. Yes mine (the post cat o2s) goes to zero when going fast downhill and no throttle. Your code is for pre cat o2. Your pre cat o2s go to zero?
@@yogamon precat. real strange the guy I bought the car from changer it when I picked it up he thought it would clear a p0421. he was wrong. I'm thinking he threw in the cheapest he could find and it was about 20k miles ago
@@dereckc9469 probably, depending on the car they can be picky on o2 sensors. Usually you have to use oem. May have been some Chinese cheap crap

Paint Strippers??
Best explanation on TH-cam.
I give my O2 sensors an Epsom salts bath every 30k miles. Then I take them out for dinner and drinks.
That's exactly how to do it.
@@domingodeanda233 but I heard that after every 15k mileage Oxygen sensor should be wash... Joe is washing after 30k... Plz advise ...

You guys are too funny!!
Excellent description
Danny, thank you. As always, super high quality content!
I got a cylinder one misfire code, I replaced valve cover gasket because oil was going into the spark plug and I thought that was fouling the plug, then I replaced the spark plugs, then I replaced the coils, turned out to be a bad injector, by the time I figured out the misfiring problem and fixed it, now I’m getting a bank one sensor one voltage low code, would the month of driving with a misfiring cylinder cause gunk to build up on the sensor?????
Drove car after fixing the cylinder misfire for two days and the bad sensor check engine code disappeared I hope it'll be good because the Toyota OEM cost almost $200
Like the way u fully explain ur knowledge teacher respect
Real good video 👍
Explained so many questions before I went ahead and cleaned when I needed to replace TY
Sir, Do you think soaking in gas over night might work?
Hello very nice video I have a 1999 LHS and I'm having problems with rough idle I found that the number five plug is not working change the spark plug change the coil pack still the same I have spark check the fuel injector it works did a compression check vacuum check all good don't know what the problem is what do you think
With current $6-7 gas prices and seing the price of replacing these on my 90's cars I think I'll replace them both, even if it doent fix the shake the 95 Camry has, IF it does fix the shake that will be UUGE! Didn't have Me till the last half. Liked and subd
Save your self 10 minutes of him trying to tell you to replace it yet his video is titled how to clean one. Just spray carb cleaner in the holes at the bottom, let it sit for a few shake it around and do that a few times. Mine the truck was running rich due the wiring with the back o2 wich is now fix. so going to try to clean it. A bath in seafoam might help. I love to run that in the tank every few months just cause. 5:05
With these 4 wire sensors two of them should have 12 volts for the heated circuit when ignition is on. If you don't check the fuses for them and then the wiring. So no 12 volts this cleaning won't help.
Hi, could u make a vid on fuel pumps and fuel regulator ..? Thanks, great vids as always !!
Thanks for keeping it real
Hello good day. If I'm buying new oxygen sensors for my 05 honda civic does the color code on the wires have to be the same? I have 2 blk 1 wht and 1 grn
Very thorough video and great advice as always! Keep up the good work man! Looking forward to seeing you hit a mil subscribers🤘
Is it also true that a failing oxygen sensor could cause “Cat System Efficiency Below Threshold” codes on Hondas? Alongside bad gas mileage of course.
And cause a very, very rough starting engine when it’s extremely cold? 20F
Thanks for any responses!
Hi I had a heated 02 sensor trigger cel after the battery died and my airbag light as well. Is it suggested to clean or try clearing code a few times and see if it corrects both issues?
Pls advice my KIA shortage 2015 have encountered rough idling what may he the issue O2 /?
Thank you bro. I’ll just replace it. 👍👍
I’m getting p0430 help?
Great video! Very comprehensive explanation! Thanks!
I keep getting p0175 on my 2017 Honda Ridgeline. OBD scanner says fuel is to rich. Bank 2. Honda front bank (bank 2). I cleaned out MAF sensor but code came back. I guess checking oxygen sensor is next. Is bank 2 sensor the one upstream of catalytic converter?
If the fault is something which the mechanic should've noticed and or repaired first time around, then negotiate a price (on parts)
But if the fault is due to their poor workmanship, then don't pay them.
I'm not sure which country you are in, although here in Australia, regardless of what the mechanics policies are with payment and pick up of vehicle. They cannot withhold your car pending payment.
Tell them they will have to bill you. If they attempt to obstruct you from collecting your vehicle. Call the cops
Iam one more in your list - im hooping that you hit the 1 million subs.
Help I just bought a 1997 Honda Civic with engine d16y8 . That came with code P0141 code . I’ve checked my vehicle and I’m missing the bank 2 . Is capped on the exhaust and I don’t see a connector anywhere . Any help to correct this issue ?
PO13A O2 sensor slow response, rich to lean bank1 sensor 2. Could that be bad or dirty O2 sensor
So if both lights on (check engine/trac off) should be able to change or clean both sensors.?
Strippers I’m in!!
You dropped this , .

Can I install an Oxigen sensor on a crossthread port?
I was wondering if it would work properly if the sensor goes all the way a bit sideway.
When installing the old sensor do you use anti seize?
Yes
Bosh Lambda sensors already have anti seize on the threads.
I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier- v6, 3.3L and i replaced the oxygen sensors 2 upstream and 2 downstream a few years ago. It monitored and passed smog last year. I tried to take it into smog this year, and they told me that the oxygen sensor were not monitored. the heated oxygen sensors are monitored, but the only thing left not monitored is the oxygen sensors. I do have a small exhaust leak at the exhaust manifold on the driver's side. My Catalytic convertor, evap are all monitored. I have new spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor, distributor cap, and rotor. I have driven the vehicle roughly 100 miles and only thing left to monitor is the oxygen sensor. Is there anything i can check? any guidance would be appreciated.
so what if I replace the DPF since it had been tampered with, and there are no fault codes. The sensors are pitch black. Replace or clean?
Hi sir, quick question. Mine had the code p0135. And i notided the harness is really warm after driving the car around the block. I would say 10 mins at the most.. i came back popped the hood check it and i touched the harness (plug) it was hot to touch. Not so much as the other harness. This one i touched was hot to the point where ypu can’t even hold it at all. Could you tell what could be the reason?
can you explain @1:53 or so.... sealed and locked inside the sensor ?
How did or does the surrounding air/reference air get in there ?
What if my denzo sensors are only a year and a half old but im getting a slew of heated o2 sensor and closed loop bank 1 and 2 codes?
Mine are coming up "Stuck"! 3 of 4. Can they be cleaned? Thanks.
I had a bad power steering fluid leak and both of my downstream sensor connectors were covered with power steering fluid when I changed them. I’m still getting an o2 sensor code. How do I clean the connector parts?
I have a Jeep Compass 2016 and I am getting very poor gas mileage now. I've done everything except clean or replace the oxygen sensors. I am not receiving any errors but what are your thoughts on this possibly being my issue?
Cheers for the video-god bless you: can someone help me. A dealership recently overfilled my engine oil for the second time and the bike is misfiring and someone suggested to check the lambda 02 sensor. Could I try cleaning the sensor with some WD-40 please and a tooth brush or something?
I'm in a situation where essentially no amount of money can help me due to time constraints. I simply have to wait for the new sensor. BUT, for the hell of it I'm gonna drop my current o2 sensor in the Ultrasonic Cleaner & see what we end up with! (assuming it isn't properly broken).
How did your sensor work out in the ultrasonic cleaner?
Also curious
@@kingrory9613 IIRC; The new sensor ended up arriving in time & when I removed the old one it was damaged (rattling) anyways. This was a $25/10 Minute job so, in MY case, UltraSonicCleaning wouldn't be worth the time.
Good luck on making it to 1 million! I know I've got a long way to go, to get 3 zeros, let alone 6 of them!!!
Hi, I have Peugeot 307 2003 that does not start but crank. There is no warning light. Any suggestions please where to start, I have checked spark plugs, fuses, and fuel pumps that sound well at the time of turning off the key.

the sensor you explained about being a sealed unit may be the one on my car, the actual oxygen is drawn in at the where the wires enter the back of the sensor, they do not contain sealed oxygen.
How long do 02 sensors last? When you replace them or clean them do you have to delete the code or does it just dissapear?
I have a 98 camry 2.2 i Just replaced the o2 sensor and i got a code popping up now p1135 manufacturer control. Would u be able to tell what that means
Super detailed with all the different things that could go wrong! I got the heater circuit code so just need to figure out which sensor it is now out of the 2
2011 ford fusion I just had accident on it after that. I got code on cynder 4 misfire. Also code on bank 1 oxygen sensor high voltage high voltage. Not sure what couse yet am down. Mph or lesser. Missed hood passengers finder and light done replaced all that ...
Love your videos my man !!! question off topic...what type of camera and mic do you use in your videos? love the sound and video quality
congrats on 1 mil, mate. keep up the helpful videos. You should do a restauration of a Crown Victoria. I would watch the shit out of that! :P
Where on the vehicle is the pre cateroptic sensor located, please?
I'm having problem with my vehicle I just took it to AutoZone and it showing on the machine under the dashboard it showed the 02 sensor and Catalytic converter ..
the person that was helping me told me one of them has to be the problem.
This morning I saw oil under the car
I look under the Toyota I don't see no leaking but there was another car before me the person left their car there for 4 months and did not work so I might be confusing their problem with my car.
Any advice😓😞😭😫
Just buy a obd scan tool for 20$ + An research any codes you may acc across on the scanner and fix it yourself saves you lots of money. An dont take it to Autozone without checking under the car for leaks..so you know next time that it wasn't you that was leaking oil.
Hi my car has 145,000 miles I don't have any check engine light do you think I should go ahead and replace my o2 sensors?
Can i clean it whith maf sensor cleaner
I have a heater element error on my 2003 Mits Montero. Could I unplug the sensor and just run a resistance test to look for a short in the sensor before testing the signal from the rest of the car?

Idk if your still checking comments in here but ive got a 98 ranger 3.0 and when im driving say stomp on the gas my truck feels like it hits an air pocket , like no fuel and then it kicks back in again. Could that be o2 sensors ? Going to do a code check tomorrow "
Could be o2, MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) / MAF (Mass Airflow) depending on which one your Ranger has or TPS (Throttle Position sensor) The TPS was an issue on my Dakota and caused a similar issue to what you're describing. Hopefully its been sorted in the month since this comment.
i replaced my o2 sensor (cleaning didnt work due to broken heating element) in my 2002 sienna le
but now i get error p0171 and p0174 (engine running lean) , i replaced pcv valve , gas filter and mass airflow sensor .. the problem still exists .. im afraid my gas injectors are broken/full of crap

Ok I have a 99 Dodge Ram 1500 and my odometer reader says (No Bus) can u explain to me what that means and why it’s sayin it
I'm not getting an engine light, but after a cold start and 5 minutes of driving my engine is having trouble with pulling through every gear. The first 5 minutes it rides perfect and throttle respons is powerfull.
I got code p0420 and my car has 68,000 miles so it can’t be the catalic converter... right? What do you suggest clean it or change it?
i had an O2 sensor code ten years ago on my Geo.
i burned the soot off with a propane torch. still works fine.
Replacing it with a high-quality Denso sensor is a great choice for a Toyota, as it ensures compatibility and long-term reliability.
