Despite the controversy of replacing Roth, the album was their first to top the Billboard 200. It was also Hagar's first #1, as stated by him on the Live Without a Net concert video. The album went to number one on April 26, 1986 and 2x Multi-Platinum on May 28, 1986.
A live video created during the tour for this album was released as Live Without a Net, which has since been released on DVD. The tour was a significant change from previous tours. Where Van Halen previously had years of material to work with, even on tour supporting the first album, Hagar was uncomfortable performing a large number of songs from the original lineup. Therefore, most of the band's back catalog was dropped from the set lists. Instead, the shows consisted of almost the entire 5150 album, a few Hagar solo hits ("I Can't Drive 55" and "There's Only One Way to Rock"), and a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll"; the band also played a humorous verse of Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" as part of "Best of Both Worlds." Of the Roth-era tracks, "You Really Got Me", "Panama", and "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love" were performed with regularity. Unlike Roth, Hagar was an established guitarist, allowing Eddie to play keyboards on some songs. - บันเทิง
The world NEEDS Live Without a Net in 4K!!!
It was shot on film, they could easily re-scan it to 4K or 8K.
@@rossland7097 💯 what are chances they shot it on film? 50/50? I know TV shows around that time like Family Ties shot on video tape 😭
@@volt8ge Live without a net was shot on film. It's on 16mm film. Two songs (Love Walks In and Best of Both Worlds) were broadcast live to the MTV awards on one of the 2 nights of filming, that was on video and looks like video. The VHS and DVD are from the 16mm film prints.
@@rossland7097 Ah, if only I had access to that print lol
The world and …me:)
Michael Anthony harmonizing with Sammy, amazing
Michaels harmonies were Van Halens secret ingredient!
And still doing it.
Back when life and the world was simply better, because this was the music we had ☺️. RIP Eddie 😔
Скорее наоборот. Музыка была качественней и добрее, от того, что времена были лучше
watching these are like collecting the infinty stones
From vinyl in the late 80s to 4k today ... feels like no time. This song describes everything I love about (live) music 🤍
That is not 4k...and it was released on VHS and DVD....it was shot on 16mm film. I still have the DVD.
It's like we're all watching it for the first time. . .
AMAZING work!
i played this so much on vhs when it came out i had to buy a 2nd copy.
So did i😂😂
Same
Before I wore mine out, went to the local video store and rented it for as long as I could. Then talked my parents into renting it again, and again... Finally saved the money to purchase it!
Yep, wore out two VHS copies.
I watched this concert video more than porn VHS back then
I wish I could travel back in time to New Haven 1986.
Went to this tour …epic!!
I seen them in San Diego with my Girlfriend Stacey and we hung out at Ocean Beach after that. One of my best Summers ever..
Oooh, me, too.
I hated 86 at the time. Full of Bon Jovi Europe Mr. Mister and Whitney Houston CRAP.
If I could pull a Ground Hog day .. I would choose this day and spend infinity as a 13 year old in the Midwest figuring out how to get to this concert!
Eddie was on fire on this song!! He was 5150!!!!!! RIP Mr. EVH, gone but never ever forgotten!!
Please don't call him Mr. EVH --- his name was "King of Six Strings"
incredible to play and dancing as that !!!!!!!!! never forget my first heroe !!!
Man they were such a tight band.. just magical!
They all looked like they were having a blast!!!!!
Three times Eddie looked back to his brother Alex for timing and the "wink." This cannot be duplicated by anyone else.
Stunning amount of energy.
This tour was awesome 🤘!!
Hell yeah it was!
Such a great performance
The energy, the joy, is as infectious as it is stunning. Like I'm a Van Halen fan, I like all the eras of the band. But this one, especially this tour, was just such unbridled joy permeating every millimeter of the stage and screen
I remember being so pissed off that VH had split up. Left us high and dry and I was very reluctant about Sammy coming in and the big change. I bought the album and loved the music. But it took 2 albums to accept the fact that’s what it was. But Sammy came in and did a helluva job and this live performance had alit to do with winning me over. Great times RIP Edward!
Always hilarious seeing Sammy bust out a wide grin after he sees someone has thrown a David Lee Roth shirt onstage.
I always get excited when Eddie solo is about to start man just like seeing it for the first time I'm now 50 years old but it reminds me back when I was just 13 watching this awesome man Eddie forever
This is probably the only time that everyone in Van Halen got along with each other lol
I’d like everyone to know Sammy was pushing 40 when this was filmed. Almost 40 years later and he’s barely aged.
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!! Can't thank you enough! 🤘😎🤘
If you see this comment, we need a super scaled version of Ed’s live solo of donnington 84 and the Oakland 81’ pro shots.
Joyous, just joyous, this song never fails to bring a big cheesey grin to my face. Looks great too...
Amazing amazing amazing!!!!!!! So crisp. They are so happy
I love that song and album so much. It' so very different from everything else
They put in work
This looks fantastic! Thank you so much for this... I would totally purchase this again if released in 4K.
What an amazing time they are having. Best song on the 5150 album.
That delay sequence at the beginning of Ed’s solo. 😍
Best live solo Ed ever did imo
Wow !!! What a high energy show that was in the 80’s !!
GREAT QUALITY !!! NOSTALGIA !!!
I remember buying this concert on VHS in 1988 --- but I never had quality like this on my old CRT TV !!
Lol the old CRT TVs were 480i resolution but we all thought it was great 😃
@@CrosscutFilmsSask Well, depending on the TV and the seating distance a flat screen CRT TV had/has a great picture. I just sold one of the best 32" flat screen CRTs ever made...A Toshiba 32AF43 and replaced it with a cheap Insignia 32" LED. The Toshiba had a better picture from 4 feet away. Gotta trash it and get something better. BTW, the first HDTVs were CRTs.
My 18 year old self was at this concert. My 56 year old self remembers it like it was yesterday. Good times.
I was 15 at the time --- I woulda been high-fiving you during this concert
Saw them in Philly for that tour. Only time I ever saw them. Great show. Great energy. They were having so much fun.
I was stationed in Subic Bay at the time and 5150 will always be the fershizzle to me and shout out to all my fellow vets who were there
This track is an easy favorite of mine. 5150 as a whole was a great opening Salvo to the Hagar era VH.
💯 percent!
DUDE!!! RE RELEASE this video... I want to watch this in high def on amazing speakers on a sick Theather SCREEN!.
Yep a 4K release would be Great
Recorded (VHS tape) this off MTV when I was kid
Amazing VH performance ❤🤘👍!!
This is fantastic! Like so many others, I wore that VHS out! Looking forward to more. Thank you!!
Coffee purchased, great job with these vids man, thank you!
Thank you - much appreciated!!
♥Seth Rogen with bass is awesome! ♥
Rad! Anytime I see EVH rip it live I'm always amazed with how he has total control over such a hot guitar rig.
Nice!! Thanks, and keep 'em coming!!
I’m much more of a Dave guy but this songb is awesome
Can anyone else see the sparks with all of them. I know everyone has their own opinion. But Sammy made them special. Can’t tell you how better they look with him. Van Hagar was always my fave. The electricity in the air and on the stage is just so impressive.
Totally agree! What great times!!
Michale Anthony is Van Halen’s sound! His background vocals are it
Beautiful! I saw them live on this tour in Pullman, WA, BTO opened, excellent show!
Excellent!! 😎👍
He lives forever....🤘
Brilliant stuff - also EVH lots of Townsend and Page stage moves
Wow this looks and sounds amazing thank you!
I got this all on a playlist for myself. Until this ever comes out officially. :p
this is official while Lee Roth is still connected.
Classic. Love it. My favourite version of VH.
God, I wish I had been there. Amazing show.
Yep it was Great, caught the show up in Detroit
I rewound it back to this song alone more times that I could fathom.. everything is so much better in 4k..
I actually heard Live without a Net before buying the 51/50 album so it took a bit of adjustment going from the life format to the album format.
Thank you! One of their most underrated songs and I think EVH's best live solo. This looks and sounds great.
Love watching these without all the 80's blur. Thank you for this. How can you no miss the 80's after watching this?
Who the hell did this? You are the MVP. Perfection. Thank you
You're welcome
this is wonderful!
Cool! Thanks for posting
Forgot how much I loved that video
Greatest live VCR ever
nice, thanks for sharing
This song is the best miss you eddie
My favorite song by them!
Van Halen - Love Walks In plssssssssssssss
doesnt get any better then this. amazing footage and audio. damn miss these guys
Van Halen at its best here 🤘
One of the best tours
One hell of an arrangement. Damn.
I remember renting this VHS from Blockbuster ! =)
I first sww this when i was like 15 I think, in like 86/87? I still love this solo. Amazing imo. Good memories. Live without a net:) boo ya
THE band!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Remarkable….what a band wow:). Yep, I played the heck out of this vhs too! Looking forward to catching the best of both worlds tour in Nashville this year, will be fun to hear them recapture some of this energy
But Eddie, what a force, one in a billion!!
They were a well oiled machine of devastation during this time. The sleeper on this concert for me, as a guitarist, is Ed’s solo on summer nights. He got into a zone and went off.
JESUS THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for doing this. This song really took me out of a years long depression, some time back. Eddie shined like the brightest star.
Am I the only one who thinks that when they super scaled the song to 4K that somehow it sped up the music a little bit?
I miss my friend
Van Helen rocks!
Michael Anthony's backing vocals were just as important as Eddie's guitar and whichever lead singer is out front.
Long live the first six records.
How can you love electric guitar and not know about the song 5150. Monster guitar playing by ed. Summer nights and get up are my favorite of live with out a net....but damm...2days music doesn't even scratch the surface of this stuff/ era
I don't know why I get emotional every time I see Eddie Van Halen. He seems like one of the most lovable rack stars ever. His playing is the most amazing combination of innovation, shredding, and musicality. There were many incredible guitarists in that era, but Eddie was special. I honestly love DLR era as much as the Hagar Era. One thing I had forgotten was how physical these guys are. They make Lindsay Sterling look lazy. haha.
A prime example as to why they were often billed as "THE MIGHTY" Van Halen.
Sammy and Michael Anthony/ Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell. Wow
I completely understand what you're going through with monetization of concert videos. I went through the process of creating a channel around remastering the audio for vintage shows and TH-cam didn't feel that was worthy. Funny how a "reaction" video is though... SMH. I have deleted almost all of mine (sans the US Festival show Van Halen Remaster). It's too important for my channel. LOL I may never get monetized at this rate!
I don't even attempt to monetize any of these. Any money generated should rightfully go to the artist and/or songwriter. It's why I have the Buy Me a Coffee link added. It ain't much but it's completely voluntary for viewers to shoot me a couple bucks for their appreciation of the work I put in.
Subbed to you BTW 😎
@@CrosscutFilmsSaskyeah. I wasn’t trying to monetize them. They actually refused to monetize any of my channel. Not just the handful of remasters. That’s what has me upset.
@@CrosscutFilmsSaskthank you!!
I tried the Buy Me a Coffee thing too... I have received exactly ZERO after 107k views on that one video. LOL
People think they went more pop with Sam I Am on the Mike. But there is no shortage of thumpers in the Hagar days
"Dreams" next?
Thanks for doing these Live Without A Net videos. Killer work. 👍

Need this to forget problems😂❤
Love walks in next!!!! That’s my favorite:)
I saw this tour in San Francisco in November of 1986. Stunning show.
5150, the song is probably Ed and Al's masterpiece. The syncopation and tightness of that groove will always be fucking untouchable, particularly with this version of the tune.
Been watching this VHS/DVD/UTUBE 4K thing my entire life…….. good timing in the grand scheme of things 😂
Had the VHS of this waay back in the day...wore it out. Eddie's whole solo....goddamn....THE KING!!

Fuuuuuuuuuantastic \m/
well, THAT just gave me enough energy to do two of me for the next week
Holy shitballs
@06:03 That right there says it all! King Edward! The King of Strings! RIP EVH! Love and Miss YOU!
Video looks great. Audio is horrible. Ed’s guitar sounds like it’s in another room. Can you remaster/remix the audio, too?
It's the audio that accompanies the track on the DVD. You'll have to take it up with Warner Bros lol
Who's Van Helen?
Was waiting for someone to point that out.
My favorite Van Hagar era song
