This was the first song Sammy Hagar recorded with Van Halen when he joined the band in 1985. Hagar recounts in his memoir Red: My Uncensored Life In Rock: "We started playing, and the engineer Donn Landee recorded everything we did. I made up the first line on the spot: 'Summer nights and my radio.' It just popped into my head the first time I heard that riff. The rest of the song I scatted my way through. I really had my scat together. Eddie couldn't believe it. Dave apparently didn't have good rhythm and wasn't a great singer, didn't have any range. I was singing Eddie's guitar licks with him."
From the Live Without a Net live concert video of Van Halen recorded in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1986, and released later that year. It was of their performance on August 27, 1986 at New Haven's Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The 90-minute release removed a few songs from the full performance. While the band attempted to record the previous night, audio problems prevented it from being used, although some video footage from that night would later surface in music videos. The concerts were part of the 5150 Tour, supporting the album of the same name, Van Halen's first with lead singer Sammy Hagar.
The tour was a major high for the band, albeit with a couple of low points. The first was when their new manager Ed Leffler was hospitalized in Texas after an altercation in a hotel elevator. The second was when Eddie's wife Valerie Bertinelli suffered a miscarriage; she didn't reveal to Eddie that she was pregnant at the time, until it was too late. - บันเทิง

The stuff with Gary Cherone didn't impress me. Gary sounded great but Mike Post should not have produced that album. Eddie was heavily drinking at the time and it showed.

WRONG. VH III sucked. I love VH and I love Gary - but that never shoulda happened.
@@noneyerbidnessAgreed, I bought the CD and didn't even listen to the whole thing more than once, whereas I had every other record memorised. I'm an even bigger Extreme fan but that crossover just didn't work.

He was HIGH. Always high. I knew him for 4 years too long. He was a drama queen, was a problem in all personal & professional relationships. The only person he got along with was his brother. He was always drunk & high until his Vegas show, when he began a relationship with Janie. He had a bad trip when his coke dealer gave him product laced with meth, he told me. He became hooked on meth, lost the rest of his teeth.
I absolutely love his music though, with SH. I saw the band 3 times in high school, one of my favorites.

We met at Sushi Roku Santa Monica CA at a business dinner held by my friend & business associate in abouts 2002. I sold Edward's titanium handmade guitar pick that he gifted to me on Ebay in 2016 to a collector in Iowa.
@@user-zk4yi2ff2b you definitely knew him at almost the lowest point in his life, and from what i understand his personal life was filled with just as many high's as Low's and that is common for an alcoholic and drug addicted musician, i remember i think in 2005-2007 there was a guitar world edition i forgot which month which featured him on the cover behind a white backdrop, the person taking the pictures during the photoshoot said Edward looked so bad they had to do airbrush work on the pic just for it to make the cover the original photo was so unflattering, he lived the life of 20 men easily.....he had no regrets upon that death bed,.....
I miss the 80's so damn much --- just me and my friends hanging out on a summer night having laughs and listening to VH on our boom box!

When Eddie uses the "tapping" technique he's sort of playing it like a piano. Makes sense since he started on piano. We're so used to his greatness, that we tend to forget how unreal he was. And I can't even imagine what he would have been if he had EVER been sober while he played......lol

He was always such a key pillar in their whole sound. Backing vocals can add so much and bring a unique quality to a band. VH, Def Leppard, Queen are just a few that had that going for them and MA was the guy for VH.
And a really deep funky line holding below the solo. That rhythm section was ridiculous on top of having a generational player like EVH.

Got LWOAN on VHS when it came out. Played that thing to death. This version of Summer Nights is the best IMO. Ed's solo is incredible!
Awesome job man. I think I wore out my VHS tape back during the day. Loved this show. You can tell the band is having fun and just enjoying the fans and each other. I also seen this tour in my hometown and it was the same as in the Live Without a Net video. I think I remember Wolfie has said that once his own thing dies down a bit and he can emotionally handle it, He will go through the 5150 studio and go through all the content that his Dad has. And man, What a time that will be!

I just wish copyright holders were as happy with some upscales. Sometimes, they allow it. Sometimes, it'll just get blocked. On rare occasions, I'll get a copyright strike which expire in 90 days - three of those and TH-cam terminates my channel. I'm currently at two so I'm quite nervous to be uploading upscales right now lol

Interesting to watch the videos from this show. Sammy and Micheal don’t seem to interact much on stage. Whereas Sammy and Ed are, yet all these years later Mike and Sammy are probably as close as two guys can be.

At 2:50 you can hear how important EVH's backing vocals are to the VH sound that so many whine about only Anthony being able to do. When he takes a drag on the cig and it's only MA's vocal, it sounds half as good. The backing vocals in the studio were a combination of ALL of them singing. Including Dave on the early stuff and probably sammy on the later but I'm not a huge sammy fan so I don't know for sure. Not just MA.

The render would tie up my machine for a couple days so I'd have to plan it. I do these in my spare time as I have paying clients that keep my lights on so as of right now, it's a "we'll see".

Beautiful video quality! I’m curious, what was your source material on? Is this upscaled VOB files? Or, is this upscaled from a videotape format? Thanks!
Depends entirely on the source video I can find. Sometimes I have to go rooting around on Russian and Romanian sites lol - Shutter Encoder to download the webm file then uncompressed with SE as well. Then depending on the source, there's some bouncing back and forth between DaVinci Resolve Studio and Topaz Video AI to clean up and upscale the tracks. Sometimes I can't go 4K if the source is too muddy so 1080 is the best I can do.
If the original video has some issues like poor exposure or white balance issues, I'll tweak it a bit in Resolve Studio to slightly correct it without drastically changing the look of the video.
This is my favorite song since they changed to Sammy Haggard as their lead singer.

These upscaled videos on this channel just, strangely sound like they're playing fractionally too fast. Like perhaps 0.05x faster. Not sure it's the frame rate being upscaled but it just doesn't quite sound right.
Odd. I make absolutely no changes on the audio side unless I'm subbing in a better quality audio track, whether it's (depending on the original audio) the single version, the album version or a video version of the song that was originally produced by the record company with added dialogue or sound effects.

Cigarette smoking was not his cause of cancer or his cause of death. Look at the coroner's report. He was in a motorcycle accident which caused brain hemorrhage and ultimately he developed a brain tumor. Just because a person smoked cigarettes doesnt mean that's their cause of death. I know a 96 year old woman who's alive and well who's been smoking since 14. I also know a 53 year old who died from drinking beer.
