VAN HAGAR: The term used by Van Halen fans who came of age during the David Lee Roth-era of the bands career, since it was their way of showing how different they thought the band sounded from the first incarnation.. Whereas , fans like me who came of age during the Sammy Hagar era , this is Van Halen, though for me, all incarnations of the band were Van Halen, even with Gary.
I was at this show. I wasn't big Hagar fan at the time, didn't know what to expect. The mix was superb. (Roth came to town about 2 weeks later, may have been 2 weeks prior, I remember the mix wasn't as good, although Vai and Sheehan raised the bar to "Deadly") Let me tell you, they could have walked off the stage when they finished One Way To Rock and still would have made it atop Mt. Rushmore. They blew the doors off the fucking place. I thought the roof was going to collapse when Ed and Sam traded solo's. By the end of the tune I, along with everyone else, was fucking stunned.. I have a strong suspicion that Wolfgang is going to encourage his uncle to join him to gather a 4 man group to legitimately do a tribute for dad, backed by a pre concert LP, and after the tour. A second LP. Wolfgang can just about duplicate his father’s sound, and tone. Without The Alex/Ludwig addition. It does not sound correct at all. The latest Hagar experiment was a great shot at it, but for many reasons. It fell very short. I was screwd by Sammy, by not having Joe play His Vegas dates at the end of the tour. I paid good money to see Joe pay tribute to Edward. I did not buy the ticket to listen to Sammy. That is for sure. I give Sammy credit, for his efforts. I also saw the show in Concord,Ca.
