    Despite its small engine size my love of the r3 overshadowed by a damaged back that doesn’t care for the riding position is now happily going to get one of these to add to the garage. A few tweaks here and there. Full exhaust change that anemic can has to leave, power commander, better brake pads, tire upgrade, adjustable levers, small screen. I have no idea who though to place the horn where they did but are deserving of a slap. Will make a great backroads carver for me. Maybe change the for oil to stiffen it up a bit

    Getting myself a 2020 MT03 for my first bike in May! Super keen for it 😁 I test rode the 2020 Z400 and a 2016 MT03 and I still prefered the feel of the MT despite it being beaten up as a learner cours bike - seems to just suit me best!

  • @OddBallPerformance
    @OddBallPerformance 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only thing that would have made the MT03 better would have been a 270 degree crank on that little twin instead of the more traditional 180. Nice to have an alternative to the Z400 at least, and the USD forks are a nice touch on an entry level bike. I hope more manufacturers take note of that.

    • @Matt-dd1zr
      @Matt-dd1zr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @brickson98m

      Maxwell Murphy MT-03 will be a better commuter bike. If you plan on riding for shorter durations and more aggressively, I’d say the R3. But if you’re mostly commuting and going on longer cruises, I’d say the MT-03.

    • @Dylba91
      @Dylba91 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mt-03 is a great commuter bike. I've had one for 3 years, it has 40 thousand kilometers or 25k miles on it so far. Super fun, light and nimble. Doesn't use much petrol. I get about 320ks or 200 miles to the tank.

      Dynamically Divine I had an MT-07. Loved it, but I got hit and it was totaled. Just picked up another one today, so I’ll continue to enjoy an MT-07. My only complaint is the seat isn’t comfy after a few hours of riding. But a cheap seat pad or a nicer comfort seat can solve that!

    • @HuangHangLo
      @HuangHangLo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The FZ/MT-07 is an amazing bike. The only drawback in my opinion was the suspension. I wouldn't call the suspension terrible but when it comes to twisties, an adjustable suspension would be great.
      Needless to say, I traded my FZ-07 in this past weekend for a 2020 Husqvarna 701 Supermoto. In my opinion, it's everything the FZ-07 wanted to be.

    • @brickson98m
      @brickson98m 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Knee Knockers not sure how the suspension is on the MT-03, but yes, the suspension on the MT-07 is lacking. It’s worse for heavier riders, not so bad for myself since I’m shorter which makes me lighter. That’s what drew me to the MT-07. It’s the closest thing to what I want that I can still fit on without messing with the suspension geometry

    • @HuangHangLo
      @HuangHangLo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brickson98m My favorite attribute of the 07 was its weight for sure! Wish Yamaha would make a Supermoto with an FZ/MT-07 engine.
      I'm 5'5 and weigh 145. The 07 is PERFECT for anyone that is short and light. Wouldn't call it a "beginner bike" as Chase would. But it's definitely a good bike to start on and stay on. I had mine for 3 years.
      Only reason I traded it was because I realized I was tall "enough" to handle a sumo 😆.

    • @brickson98m
      @brickson98m 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Knee Knockers yeah it’s too torquey to be a good beginner bike. I don’t think it’s quite forgiving enough for a new rider

    since this is basically an r3 with different skin, doesn't it make it easier for new riders to get better insurance rates with it? I have an r3 and while i was looking for insurance some places were gonna charge 1-2k a year because it was in the same class and the r6 and r1. Since this is classified as a naked bike it should get better insurance rates with some of the places that were asking a lot. (Im assuming)

    I own my '17 R3 for almost 2 years now. I have always loved the FZ series. Should I make the switch to the FZ-03 or FZ-07?

      Kev Kix mt07 or else you are just buying the same bike without fairings pretty much.

    I would relocate the horn out of view. That's all I can see when I look at the front.
    I like the look of the CB300R over this MT03.

      300r definitely looks more mature, but engine wise I'd choose the 03 due to being parallel twin against the single cylinder 300r.

    Please compare this to the Duke 390 when you do your first ride. Torn between the two for my first bike. Same price.

    • @OriginalCapt
      @OriginalCapt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Get the MT-03, the Duke isn't nearly as reliable

    • @lthemanl
      @lthemanl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OriginalCapt I would normally agree with you, although in my personal case I have a giant KTM dealer 10 minutes away from me with a huge service department and friendly staff. Compare that to the Yamaha and I'd have to drive an hour just to get to a small dealer let alone knowing their staff. As a first time buyer and overall noob when it comes to wrenching that's really important to me.

      @@lthemanl Ah, then the Duke might suit you, however I personally prefer the smoothness of the twin cylinder in the Yamaha versus the aggressive nature of the single in Duke 390

    • @lthemanl
      @lthemanl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could see that. I’m seeing a lot about how smooth the engine is in the Yamaha. Idk. I’m torn. The Yamaha comes in an all black color too which I prefer.

    I think Yamaha screwed up by making it a 300 they should of at least put it in the duke390 and ninja400 category they would of sold a shit ton of them and it would just make more sense giving the mt line up reputation
