This has been up for a week and I keep re-watching because it is SO HELPFUL. Thank you for being a true inspiration for all of us who love outdoor adventures and fine tuning our crafts. Bravo! 🤗🤩🤸♂️
Yep my wheels are 30lbs and my Falken 35s weight 74lbs. I didn't notice a big difference, but still there is some difference. My tires stick out 2". Luckily my JT has the heavy duty brakes and 4.10 gears. I have lifted 2" with Mopar lift. Wheels are 17" x 8.5" Tactik T-742 with 5" backspace +6 offset. Thank's for the video!
2020 JLUR - 3.5" Metalcloak Game Changer, STOCK wheels, BFG 35x12.5x17. Chalk tested the tires and run them at 34psi. Rotate them every 3k miles. Contact patch is perfect. Smaller wheel is the poor mans beadlock, I have never lost a bead and go down to 15psi on trail. Will be putting Nitto 37's on the stock wheel soon. Only worry is rub on control arms at full turn. Weight is a serious consideration, braking, mileage, etc. Get a Tazer. Just my experience so far. Good details!!!
Bigger tires/wheels increase rolling weight and mass, makes your brakes work harder, changes your inclination angle and steering scrub radius. It also adds pressure on different components within your front end (tie rods, ball joints). Lots of stuff people don't think about.
@@smarterthanyou2674 I didn't say it wasn't robust enough, the vehicle was engineered with something completely different. Larger tires increase rolling mass which changes quite a bit.
I have a very similar approach to you when it comes to wheels and tires. I ran OE wheels on my last vehicle for 15 years because there was just no reason to swap them. With the Gladiator I find the rim size to be very limiting; thank you for the detailed breakdown. I've been looking at Method wheels but trying to figure out exactly what backspacing and offset to run.
Sock Danna 44 axels "maybe" for 37's. Your the 1st person I've ever heard say that. Just watched a guy 'wheeling' on 40's & stock axels waiting to see when they brake. It's been almost 2 years and their still running. He knows it's not recommended but still going. Got to watch out when you dispense such knowledge-you never know someone might just believe that.
I've spent 6 months researching and learning...everything you share here! lol. I even came to same conclusions on unsprung weight and went MRW 703 and the Cooper's ! I did go with an EVO lift..and regear (doing 37's) as well as beefier axle shafts, new driveshafts (over a 3" lift need it) and some new tie rods and drag links. thanks!
Just put Toyo MT 35 x 12.5 x 17 with a set of the QuadraTec ‘41 wheels which are 8.5” wide with a +10 offset on my Sport S Max Tow along with the 2” Mopar lift. It is also Hydro Blue and it changes the look dramatically! It actually looks like a Jeep and my smile gets bigger every time I drive it. Since I will be adding air lockers soon, I’ll likely go ahead and re-gear to 4.56, but with the 4.10’s I am not in any hurry. Thanks for the information.
Superb wheels and tires are a must in the mountains of Europe! I learned that while exiling across the French alps, towing animals for my productions. I love the dramatic music at the beginning of the video! A true artiste knows the value of sonic ambience. 🎼🎨🎭
@wirsindheldenowns I haven’t yet made it to Africa. I stopped traveling after I made it to the US when exiling. Such great outdoor adventure and artistic scenes here!
Ian, great video & research - really well done. Thank you for sharing! I am assuming you used the 0/4.75" wheels from Method? Now that you have had them on the Gladiator for 6 months, have you experienced any rubbing or other problems? I am thinking about the exact same set up for my '21 Gladiator Mojave. Thank you!
This is an excellent video with a ton of well thought out advice. I appreciate your research and study. However, I heard you mention the Sport, the Sport S, the Willys, the Overland and the Rubicon. As a Mojave owner..........I'm not feeling much love here, ha, ha, ha. Seriously, good job.
I have the rubicon gladiator, terraflex 1.5 in front and daystar. 75 in the rear. I had 35s going to 37s tomorrow on stock jl rubicon wheels with 1.5 wheel spacers. I ran the same wheels and tires and wheel spacers on my Sahara jlu. With a 3 in lift. The 35s look small on the gladiator. If I don't like it I'll put the 35s back on.
I have a '21 Glad Rubi Diesel on 37s, 17x9 w/ 3.75" backspace, it pokes out just a bit more than yours, but with 37s it gives me that clearance so no rubbing in the front lock to lock. Its on a 3.5" Metalcloak lift and I've swapped the front driveshaft to an Adams 1350. My wheel / tire combo is on the heavier side (beadlocks), but with the diesel it's not a huge deal.
Love the setup and thanks for the well made and researched video. I'm thinking of a very similar setup on my Rubi, but noticed those same Method 703's also come with a +25mm offset. Would you anticipate any interior rubbing with those wheels, versus the 0 offset wheels you elected to mount? Running a +25 mm offset might result in the exterior of the tire lying in-line with the fender, and prevent potential damage from debris kick-up. Thanks.
PSA... you don't need to buy a rubicon if you already plan on doing this. More likely than not you plan on gearing above a 4.10:1 gearing ratio, meaning no need to spend extra money on the rubicon badging. Save that cash and buy a better lift kit and go ahead and re gear to 4.5 or whatever your preference is. No reason to hate on the "lower" packages.
You must like those 2:1 t cases lol. My trail rig started as a rubi and not one single rubi part is left. But my gladiator which is my daily it’s nice having the rubi features when needed
It's not just gearing. Rubicon has electronic swaybar disconnect and wider axles. Seems like a bunch more work for a weekend warrior to swap out axles, swaybars, fenders and everything else
Put 37x12.5/17 on my 2023 Rubicon with only a 1.5" front lift with not scrubbing onroad. Offset is Zero on 9" rim and only times touches the fenders are if you were offroad so thats when you go to a 2.5"
Great video with great details. Question for you, how do you like the Cooper tires and what's your take on comfort and road nice compared to the falkens that came with the Rubicon. I plan on mirroring your setup on my 22 Jeep Mojave.
One thing most people forget when lifting their car is that the gravity point of the car gets up as well. This is why many Jeeps roll over in critical situations. It has to be a well balanced decision to lift a car.
Looks Amazing!!! Looks like you leveled your Gladiator (if so what did you do). Also what tire and rim specs did you use? Can you give a link of you exact tires and wheels (to make sure I’m getting the right size as I do not want to lift my Gladiator.
Really like the setup, wheels and tires are next for me. I kind of have the same goals as you have with your setup, after getting these wheels what kind of mileage did you go down to?
I would like to thank you for this video. I seytup my Gladiatgor wiuth the exact Wheels and Tires you show, and I love it ❤. Furthermore, I got to show my dealership that they were dead wrong in their OPINION that I needed a lift. THANK YOU AGAIN.
Awesome video! Detailed and well explained. I picked up a Sahara 4xe and want to go keep the stock 20 X 8 wheels -I plan on using it as a daily driver with occasional driving through gravel paths and wooded areas during the winter (no rock climbing). Any suggestions? Since I do live in a area with heavy snow falls and ice build up -I will sticks with an all terrain tire as you suggested. Thanks again.
Thank you for explaining things in such a good simple way. I like what you put out on you tube. I am also looking for a camper that I can pull with my Gladiator and I like your Lance. Do you really think the Gladiator can tow that one you have comfortably. I also have 4:10 gears on 37 in tires and I would think going to 4:88 is a must for towing that trailer.
I really liked your post. I recently just tried to purchase those exact rims with a different tire combination. The retailer told me that the hub bore on the Gladiator was 71.60 and the wheel opening for the rims were 71.50. They said they would not fit the Gladiator??? What Gives?
Hey Bud. Just started watching your videos. Nice informative information. I just purchased my 2020 Rubicon Gladiator on 4/17/022. What is the ground height from floor to top of your Jeep. I want to do same wheel and tire set up but need to fit in my parking space. Thank you sir.
Hey thanks for the video and info. I’m looking into my first off roader type vehicle, looking into a 23 gladiator Mojave. For the Mojave would I be able to get the same rim and tire combo as your 35s in the video? Or is there more of a downfall for Mojave compared to rubicon? Any advice helps thanks
Best informative video i have viewed , great info. I am buying a Mojave which has a 1" higher lift and I want to put 35's. Thanks for covering the fact that the stock wheels are too narrow for 35's. Do I need to add any lift to put 35's on the mojave (maybe spacers). I am mostly looking for looks and just light off road. Can you give reccomendations for AT tire and rims for me and where you bought your set up. thanks.

You can run those stock wheels with the milestar 12.5” wide Patagonia because it’s designed to run on the crown of the tire. They’re garbage tires though
Want to see a video of your camp setup out in the woods. Think that would be a good video. Also how are you going to carry your trail bike and; mountain bike.
Hello. I just came across your channel and I have a question. I am considering purchasing a Jeep Gladiator Sport. I don't plan on doing any off roading and I want to know if the 35 tire will fit on the Sport model without any modifications?
A lot of Gladiator owners will disagree with his limitations of tires on the OEM rim/wheel. A 12.5" wide 35" tire on the OEM is not unreasonable and of lot of owners runs this set-up.
What setup would I need to fit 35x12.5 tires on a jeep gladiator and still keep tires from sticking out, if much at all. is that possible on a tire that wide? Would it require a big lift?
I’m new to jeep looking to get a gladiator. I am wondering what’s going to be the best trim. My plan is to go with 4” lift and 37 tires. Re gear to 4:88. I wanted to go with a rubicon but if I do all I have plan do I lose what makes it a rubicon? Do you think getting for example a Willy will be better? I’m planing to do some nice trails but not rock climbing
I have the sport with max tow, keeping in mind that I’m trying to keep my towing capacity high, would 34s with a leveling kit in the front and possibly a small one in the rear be a good idea? I’m not trying to absolutely murder my mpg either since I do get around 22.5mpg average in the summer with the A/T stock tires I have right now. 35s would be cool but I don’t want to possibly run into problems rubbing. Any idea on how much “X” tire size will effect towing?
You will feel any increase in tire size when towing - it feels less powerful. I noticed a big drop going to the 35;s from my stock 33's, and my mpg went from 19 to 16. 34's might be OK, watch your wheel weight as well. a one or two inch lift won't kill you.
What did you do with your max towing package jeep and tires/lift/etc?? And how well does that version with max towing perform ? How much can you pull?!
Very informative video! Thank you for posting. I'm a new Gladiator owner and have been researching tires/rims for a couple weeks. Coincidentally, I picked the same tire you have with a slightly different rim. Anyway, my Gladiator is just a Sport and not the Rubicon. I was also planning on going with the Mopar 2" lift, and these 35" tires. Do you think there'd be any issues with the stock gearing? I'm doing this more for looks than offroading.
Whatever people say and drive with stock rims and larger tires it will one day cause issue simple because the bead of tyre in too narrow rim will seat in the rim at angular position because the air push the tyre out. That could be in highway some one life not necessary owner of the rim but 3rd party like in most accident cases.
Have a 2 inch lift on my Mojave, will be putting 37 inch tires on it this weekend. What’s the truest verdict on leaving the gears as is or does it need to be regeared?

I was also planning on going with the Mopar 2" lift, and these 35" tires. Do you think there'd be any issues with the stock gearing? I'm doing this more for looks than offroading.
I think you'll be OK if you're not towing much.
Very informative thnks!
No problem
Whatever people say and drive with stock rims and larger tires it will one day cause issue simple because the bead of tyre in too narrow rim will seat in the rim at angular position because the air push the tyre out. That could be in highway some one life not necessary owner of the rim but 3rd party like in most accident cases.
Can you post the wheel and tire combination you are talking about in this video? Thanks.
Listed in the video. Method MR703 and Cooper STT pro.
@@BigRockMoto I wish you posted these on a video description :)
Great video 👍
Hello - Did you put any lift or leveling on your Gladiator? Thanks!
Nope
Have you noticed mud and water getting slung up on you windows?
I have a 22 Gladiator Sport S with the 44's without the Max tow pkg. Does this have the bigger fenders?
Have a 2 inch lift on my Mojave, will be putting 37 inch tires on it this weekend. What’s the truest verdict on leaving the gears as is or does it need to be regeared?
35's no re-gear, 37's need re-gear
Love the look, perfect 👍
If weight is the main thing then why not go with the Goodyear Wrangler MTR’s? They weigh 64 lbs a tire…
Good useful info thanx 👍🏻
No problem
