I just done 8 different varieties, agar transfers are the only way to isolate the dominant genetics you want. Thanks for sharing, this will help a lot of beginners!
I just started Agar work myself. And the speed in which the spawn bag has colonized is absolutely incredible. I don't think I could go back to just innoculating with mss. It's been 2 weeks since transferring Agar to spawn bag and almost fully colonized.
Rhizo or tomentose, it makes no difference as far as potency all cubes have both. The difference is rhizo grows faster because it is looking for nutrients. Tomentose is happy to stay put because it is finding lots of nutrients. One can become the other if conditions are right. Don't get caught up in the importance of rhizo, it grows faster, that's it. You can prove this yourself in experiments
Ryzomorohic and tomentos are from the same sample but the ryzomorohic is the more solid branching? Don't want to look dumb here but it's the only way to learn. You are an excellent teacher by the way! Lol I e learned quite a bit from your vids.
Is this step necessary to cut out a small piece and transfer to a new agar dish at 1:05? What will happen if I just cut out everything into small pieces with a diversified genetics and large quantity, and then transfer to a spawn bag?
Mold and bacteria look different in color and consistency, and they all grow faster than mycelium too so if you have a contam that still looks like it could be mycelium, it will still grow much quicker.
Hi. Sorry for the stupid question, but where do you buy these bags??? I can't find them anywhere with a square in the middle for poking spores out of a syringe.🤔😯
You can use a hair straightener if you cover the bag with a piece of computer paper first. (Dont put the straightener directly on the plastic). Theres a guy on youtube who did it if you search it lmfao
I put them in the basement. You could put them in the fridge but then you have to let them come back to room temp before you use them. Just a cool place will be fine.
@@BoomerShroomer I kind of over complicated the question, but yes.. When do you take the seal off of the patch for gas exchange.. Right after inoculation, or do you let the mycelium get established.
@@BoomerShroomer thanks for reply! Its condensating on ceiling of petri dish but seems to be slowing in growth? Used 3 micron micropore tape was all pearly and clean bright white for a while and looks like slowely spreading through agar now looks like the mycellium might be urinating and possibly using energy to grow into agar as its dulled a bit in color and lost its beautiful white fur somewhat? i tipped it to try and drain to no avail so a tiny bit of puddling on agar happened but that seemed to condensate back to the ceiling of jar by next day idk if its cause i used cheap agar maybe why its slow to spread out been like a month lol in constant light seems to be alive slowely spreading though no green at all or grey mold hair the drops seem to stay on ceiling of petri dish so idk lol its surely not a thick sample like yours i might have to try to go to another petri with a sample of what little mycelium i got from it i guess
Hi im a student from Media Art , so I have no idea on Biology background. I just love the shape texture and I would like to do an uni project to grow some mold/ fungi and took some closeup photo from it. I wonder how can I find those sample and put on the petri dish at the first place? (From start) Or is there any searching “keyword” how to get this sample from a first place? Can I get it from supermarket? Thank you so much in advance
It will continue to grow and grow.. usually a few months and then they start to bruise. I would recommend using them as soon as they are fully colonized.
I see that you place the agar "mycelium side" facing down on the new plate. Is there a specific reason or does it grow better? My agar seems to have uneven growth, but no contamination. Could the placement differ the results vs placing it mycelium side up
@@BoomerShroomer Awesome! I don’t have some of the supplies or the time at the moment. I am interested in making my own just not now. Most expensive product that I don’t have is the pressure cooker. What are a couple of sites that you think would be ok to buy from? Thank you!

You gotta try liquid culture. You can go from injecting the bag to putting mushrooms in your mouth in 30 days @@JT-ck1sg

thank you!!!!!! I've been wondering on the sealing of the bag and a lot of people skip over that step so thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!

Iron could do it, I think, if a fabric or a paper sheet is put between the iron surface and the plastic.
a very informative video on agar preparation.. now i know i should choose 'little ropes' over 'fluffy clouds' :)
Yep! I just transferred a bunch today!
I love the way you keep everything simple. Your videos have helped me alot. Thank you
So happy you did this episode; was wondering what to do when agar was ready. Ty 🙂🍄
Sweet! Just transfer to grain!
How did it go? I have 6 full agar plates to transfer to grain bags
Thank you for both the how to make agar selections and your time laps work is so great to watch! Thank you for your hard work. I know it isn’t easy
My pleasure! Thank you! ❤️🍄❤️
I feel like I took the red pill today. How deep down the shroom rabbit hole will we go??!
Hahaha

All the way! Once you start down the rabbit hole it’s only a matter of time before you’re spawning

I’d always be interested in seeing a Time-lapse for anything that you do. I don’t see any sports syringes on here. Do you always use agar?
What about when mycelium all turns into overlay immediately?
Great video: thanks. What is the weight of your grain bag? Just trying to get a feel of the ratio of agar to grain. Any advice would be great! Thanks
Great video, thank you. I wanted to know the media you used. Is it pda or mea ?
I didn’t disinfect my hand and I put it threw a block and it did better than it was doing before it had no contamination after either
I've learned so much from you and Willy. Thx so much!
Fyi, tomintose usually happens when it has more nutrient rich food. When it doesn't, it streches further to look for it, and that is ribomorphic.
What is in the spray bottle your using
Is this step necessary to cut out a small piece and transfer to a new agar dish at 1:05?
What will happen if I just cut out everything into small pieces with a diversified genetics and large quantity, and then transfer to a spawn bag?
Which type of spray are you using, H2O2 or alcohol, etc?
is agar to agar transfer better than spore to agar? I'm just curious which one is better.
More creators should use time laps. Nice touch !
Love that time lapse!
Thank you!
How do you tell the difference between the desired mycelium and any number of other moulds and things that may grow?
Mold and bacteria look different in color and consistency, and they all grow faster than mycelium too so if you have a contam that still looks like it could be mycelium, it will still grow much quicker.
Rhizo has no bearing on fruits, yield, potency etc. Just looks cool
Hi. Sorry for the stupid question, but where do you buy these bags??? I can't find them anywhere with a square in the middle for poking spores out of a syringe.🤔😯
Amazon.. or any of the mushroom selling internet sites.
Hello are them from cloning mushrooms?
Perfect duration
Thanks.
Love all of your videos! Thank you!
You are a natural at sectional !Congrats on your blow up tote
Thank you so much!!
Does agar mycelium need to be transferred to grain or can I transfer it the all in one growing kit: coco quir and manure and all that good stuff?
Grain first then bulk.
Where do you store the plates?
Can i put agar into an all in one bag?
Omg ash. Killing it. ThNks my girl
Thank you!
Think I'm going to try to do this whole process
what is the other type of mycelium for?
Flow hood? Gloves?
But once you transfer I start to see black spots on my agar from contamination. Is there a safer way?
For the spore prints in aluminum foil, do you refrigerate those or keep them at room temperature?
Ive been keeping them at room temp. They are in a drawer in my office.
I have a scrapbook lol
What if I don’t have anything to heat snd seal bag? Do I just fold and duck tape?
Yep, fold it over and tape it up.
You can use a hair straightener if you cover the bag with a piece of computer paper first. (Dont put the straightener directly on the plastic). Theres a guy on youtube who did it if you search it lmfao
If my agar plates are filled 3 weeks in and don’t need yet , should I put in fridge?
I put them in the basement. You could put them in the fridge but then you have to let them come back to room temp before you use them. Just a cool place will be fine.
how long does the mycelium in the agar keep?
Why do spore prints to regrow a mushroom versus a culture of a mushroom to regrow a mushroom
They both grow.
Thanks 👍
isnt mean... that the mycelium grow weaker?.. pda to pda..thanx
Hi! Does one have to add all 8 wedges to one bag or can one put in two or three wedges in a bag? Putting the rest in multiple bags. Thanks!
Yep you could put a couple in one and a couple in another. Just will take them longer to colonize.
How many agar slices would you recommend for a 1 pound spawn bag inoculation?
Maybe 2 triangles.
When do you pop open the GE patch? or is the latent air inside the bag enough after inoculating?
I don't under you question? What is the GE Patch? the filter on the bag?
@@BoomerShroomer I kind of over complicated the question, but yes.. When do you take the seal off of the patch for gas exchange.. Right after inoculation, or do you let the mycelium get established.

Which size of petri dishes do u recommend?
100 mm/15 mm
How did you sterilize the knife you used to cut into the agar? _
I used 70% isopropyl. But flame sterilization is best.
Thanks vor the video❤
Do you need a vacuum sealer?
No, you need a bag sealer or you can tape the top too.
Awesome thank you!
You’re welcome! 🙂

It grows faster because the mycelium covered side has direct contact with the new agar and can directly grow on that.
