    I am in North East Ontario Canada and have used Tremclad/Rustoleum since the 80's. Cars, trucks, boats, snowmobiles, tractors, etc. It works quite well when diluted properly for spraying.

    Rustoluem works great on beater trucks used as work or farm trucks. Super cheap and you really don’t get upset WHEN it gets scratched or dinged. A little John Deere green, Allis Chalmers orange or Caterpillar yellow and call it a day. Lol

    I suppose one advantage to the Rustoleum is the ability to just run into any box hardware or discount department store at 10 pm and pickup more product; as long as you are content with basic colors. These days, however, you can also purchase oil based alkyd enamel base colors at the box hardware store that the paint department can mix to pretty much any color available on the wall of color chips. Even though that still doesn’t allow for metallics, it does open up a lot of choices.

    I have an 03 Tahoe. Thanks to your video, I figured out that it’s cheaper to go base coat clear coat vs single stage. I can mix the base coat 1:1 and get 2 gallons.

    • @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS
      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yea a lot of all this stuff really depends on brands and the mix ratios vary a lot as well between products so sometimes you are better off with the base clear vs single stage. Ultimately you really just have to do you research to find the best deals and I'm glad you did. Thanks for your comment and watching

    I bought a gallon of armor coat on clearance and still have most. I love the colour. Was thinking of getting an air gun. I may eventually get a car that needs painting. I have my eye on one but it’s a faded red and looks terrible. The shutter green armor coat would look way better but wouldn’t want it to look like a roll-on paint job which is where my current tools and skills are at. I also only have a single car garage with not enough room to walk all around.

    Thanks for this video. You know what you are talking about, and I hate to throw a curve, but Rustoleum does make auto enamel. The same price in rattle cans. I have only seen it in white on the shelf in HD. I used it to paint a guitar I built and it came out great. I did a clear coat but, It was glossy enough without it. IMO, if it is a car that has a decent value, use auto paint, like you said, if it is a beat up jalopy that you just want to look more presentable, Rustoleum is great. I had an old truck years ago I painted with rustoleum red rattle cans, and it came out pretty dang good, I was happy.

    I spent around 600 for what did on my car, the paint came in a gallon kit for around 200, primer sealer was around 100 bucks, the clear was the most expensive but what I wanted, ppg euro clear high solids. I got a deal on it, I will say the spray Maxx clear is a good way to go if you don't feel comfortable with the spray gun doing clear, and it comes out good and durable.

    I started painting cars in the early seventy's my brother in-law worked for a company painting caskets and about every three months we would go repaint his Camaro with a different casket color and that's how i learned to paint. but the more you can afford to spend on paint the better the paint job will be. if you put a lot of work into prep then its worth it to spend the money.

    • @Steven1Cicero
      @Steven1Cicero 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You hit the nail on the head there with that statement If you put a lot of work into prep then its worth it to spend the money. this I think is where you gain your value in spending a little more for better quality paints, Now a days with all of these youtube painters out there they don't always show the amount of work that goes into the preparation for obtaining a nice paint job, After all of that work that goes into correctly preparing something for a quality paint job do you rally want to cheap out, Just how much is your time and hard work really worth?

    I went to my local auto paint supplier and was quoted about $1000 for my small pickup. the paint code is R529p, it's a dark cherry pearl from Honda. I found a gallon of paint on Amazon for $320 for the base alone (no reducer, no clearcoat). My truck has over 250k miles, and burns oil, I am not paying 1000 bucks for paint for it, but if I can spray it over for 300-400 bucks, I would do it. the clear is peeling on the roof of the truck, and it looks awful, that is my motivation for the paint job. I don't think I can color match with rustoleum, but if I find a close alternative, I will try it.

    • @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS
      @WHITLEYAUTOWORKS  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I just looked it up myself I work at a Napa paint store and yes with everything absolute cheapest we sell it for in fast dry Nason with reducer it's around $400. I would say the only other option would be a custom mix done yourself with Rust-Oleum red with a quart of black added in to get burgundy and then some pearls added in with clear for around $200. About the best I know but thanks for watching I'll be glad to answer any other questions as well

      @@WHITLEYAUTOWORKSI found Black Cherry Pearl from KP Pigments. I think I will use the rustoleum matte black base, and the Black cherry pearl in a clear base, then clearcoat it. About 60 bucks for the base, 40 bucks for the pearls, 100 bucks for the clear, and I have to check on the clear base, I might just use the clear coat with the pearls to save cash. it would total about 200 bucks if I do that! A suggestion for your next pearl/flake videos, maybe try a Rustoleum Blue, like the Top Coat Marine Finish Navy Blue and add a silver pearl and/or flame. I thinking it would likely lighten the Navy a bit. I checked on KP after watching one of you vids and a small pack to test is only $5 so if I get some time I may try it myself. Thanks for the vids, I've learned a lot that I've always wanted to know about but there is no place to find out.
