@@redsflyshop Thanks. Sorry that should be 7126 of course. I have a 7133 VXP and I wouldn't want to go any longer for the smaller rivers I'm fishing on Vancouver Island.
Looking a new rod, starting to fish for redfish, black drum and speckled trout. I fish inlet water that come off the gulf of mexico, wind is a major factor and im wanting to get away from my single hand 8wt. 2-4 hrs in the summer in southwest louisiana exhausting at times.
If you are blind casting, a two hander can provide some serious distance with ease. These shooting lines will really hit the water hard and are not very accurate - so there are some downsides. If I were getting a rod specifically for that it would be 11'6" or shorter, and I would do a "one line bump" with a RIO Outbound Short floating line. I think a 7 weight would be ideal. If have a budget in mind, I'll certainly suggest some specific rods. The Sage SONIC 7116-4 is a fast rod and would gobble up line. An 8 weight Tropical Outbound would hum on that rod. redsflyfishing.com/products/sage-sonic-two-handed-rods-spey-and-switch?variant=37909632581831
Just awesome 6 piece normally get stiff feeling! Sage is good rank up the grain weight at there rods. I look forward to test this rod good have in the truck and travel stick. The swed 🇸🇪
Hi Tim, that is a Sage Spectrum MAX. Good reel, old reel but here is the updated version of it. redsflyfishing.com/products/sage-enforcer-reel?variant=42971646591175
I think the 4 piece is softer and more pleasant to cast and load. You need to be a fairly aggressive caster to make the 6 piece hum. Once per year.... that's a tough call there.
I believe so, I haven't put them side by side but they are both built with Konetic Technology. The wraps, reel seat, finish, I believe was a bit more posh on the Sage ONE however. Sonic is still very nice, just not "exquisite".
I would get the 7+ Lamson Speedster. That reel is very light, and the additional arbor size will increase your retrieve rate along with a smoother outgoing drag. These reels are so light anymore, that a larger reel will aid in balance and performance. The 6 wt. 9'6" SONIC is more of a 7 weight, so this reel is a great match. US built, super quality. redsflyfishing.com/products/waterworks-lamson-speedster-s-series-reels-and-spools?_pos=2&_sid=a3012baf8&_ss=r
@@lhays2770 YES, actually that is the first destination I think of when that rod comes up. You'll want the "697-4" to insure that you get the one with a fighting butt!
great rod....take it across to NZ smashing large trout etc...I also use these in a 3 and 5 wt...great rods
Good to know! Love these comments.
Was hoping for more choice out of this line of rods. 7125 and 5120 for winter and summer respectively. Hoping those come later.
Yes, maybe later. You are right, there are limited number of size/weight runs of the SONIC.

@@redsflyshop are the sage sonic more soft actioned than the x ?
Is the casting feel any different between 7136-4 and 7136-6 especially for scandi usage? Any benefit to choose 6piece if only travel once a while?

Is that the Sage One in disguise?

What's the price for this rod combo?
Oh it's about $1.2k all in. It depends on the reel, you can go big on that or small.
Very nice appreciate the response
What would you recommend for reels on a 6wt 9 1/2 sage sonic

@@redsflyshop what make you say it’s more of a 7 weight
@@lhays2770 It's a very fast rod, built strong all the way through the 9'6" length. It will play heavier than most 9' 7 weight rods.

Snake.
