    Nice to hear comments on Cabeles, rod. I purchased a 4wt vector, lined it with laser line, OPST, 225 gr skagit, and 96 gr. 12' tips. It casts effortless. Great setup for the littler guys. After watching your videos,one thing has improved my casting dramatically, your emphasis on " power "... Thx, for all the great info..!!!!!

      Great to hear Robert. I appreciate the feedback and the Cabelas Rod and line recommendation! Its great to know the emphasis on power has been helpful. Love hearing the details! Thank you!

    Was it me but the last rod he showed didn't have the line thru the rod ring. Oh well is still did its work. I went all out and picked up a Gaelforce equalizer 14ft as my first Spey rod. Love it. Now looking to purchase another in graphene or mayby a 13ft also. Expensive as hell but superb rods. This is gonna be awsome to learn more and more in this beautiful world in Spey casting

    I 'm starting out and learning on a 12-6 LOOP from Leland and they helped with the lining. So far so good. Price was right for my budget.

    The rod I got is a redington dually 13 6 and I tell you what that warranty is fantastic no repair fee if it’s a manufacture defect and not a obvious break (like running it over has to be pretty severe for them to make u pay a repair fee) my rod broke in salmon season and I’ll be honest it was my fault but I sent it in 15$ shipping and they sent a new one back best warranty I’ve ever used

      I feel that I should add I had a super low budget at the time (poor college student lol) and my fly shop sold me the previous generation of the rod for 50% off of the previous retail price so basically at cost I’d assume so talk to a few shops if you are in a pinch and they most likely will do their best to help you out

    Lots of good info and a fun video Tim. As a beginner I could recommend the echo swing spey rods. I did get a great deal on it at $150 Canadian dollars so hard to pass up, Great warranty.It bends deep which is good for the new caster to get the feel of the load and comes with airflo head weight for the rage and fist heads, so easy. I will invest in a much better rod in a few years, when my casting improves and I find my style. Thanks for the great video again.

      Lots of guys start with Echo rods and stay with Echo rods. They may be less money but they make some nice rods for sure. If you want a nice casting rod that will last you a life time look at the Echo glass rods.

    type B...….tearing shit up.....great vid thanks man...…..my first was an echo spey, gotta say not a huge fan but for the first spey it was ok, I now have a G loomis NRX and I love it but boy has it taken a beating

    Totally agree on B&W and I fish sinking lines never mind sinking heads or sinking tips. I grew up on B&W, I think the first Spey rod I ever cast was a Glass B&W Cordon Bleu 14'. I would say though, never over look Mackenzie DTX. Mackenzie DTX rods have been very good I've found, not cheap, but very durable and a very nice feel.
    I think though the 15' or 16' is one of those rods thats dying out, as it's only useful on the biggest of rivers. That's always the biggest error most beginners make here anyway, they buy a 15' rod, and then find it completely impractical. Don't get me wrong I own a couple of 15+, however I can count on one hand how many times I've used them in the last few years.

    • @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
      @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree Gordon. Thanks for the tip on the DTX and great feedback! I love taking the confusion out of the Spey game for new comers but I also love hearing from guys like you who have been in the Spey game a long time!

    If you're in Oregon I would call Gary Anderson. He will let you go over and cast his rods. The Nova 2 is better than any Sage, made by hand in Oregon and it costs half as much. Also you might just make a friend and when you snap your two Anderson rods in half he will fix one and send you a brand new completely different rod for the cost of repair...

    Tim... I always miss going to Poppy's when I'm down on the CW.. I'm sure that's the reason why I haven't caught a brun 😂 can you fish skagit on that river?
    Tim also you missed a loop😂 and hit the tree

    • @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
      @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Nick! Im always hitting trees!!! Absolutely you can fish a Skagit on the Clearwater. Its a great river for all lines!!! Skagit will certainly bust through the wind too! It's a great experience to go to the Red Shed for sure!

    Hi Tim, I’ve own a Loomis pro4X 13’ 8/9 wt for the last 6 years and had my ups and downs with it, I’m sure you know what that’s like. So I’m about to buy a B&W from Poppy in hopes it helps making my casting journey easier, it’s a big purchase for me as I don’t have a ton of cash but my passion runs deep into my pocket.

      Interesting. I have not tried that rod. Feel free to give me a call at 541 588 0505 if I can be of any help. Poppy can get you in touch with Gene Oswald who is a prince of a guy to work with and the north American distributor.

    I bought my spey rod without trying it, got it mostly because it was dirt cheap (Guideline Elevate, it was discontinued so the shop was aiming to get rid of them)! I think I spent almost three times as much on the reel and line as I did on the rod. 🤣

      @@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins I can happily say it is quite lovely. It was a cheap model even at full price, and I think it is largely because it feels like a fairly heavy rod and not the most sensitive/accurate out there, but hot dam it shoots line like a catapult! It is so forgiving that the only way of not getting at least a half decent cast is to actively try to fail.
      And I absolutely love the light blue colour of the blank. 😍

    What kind of knot (loop etc.) would you recommend in between
    spey/skagit/scandi heads only
    to mono running lines for long distance casting ?!

    • @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
      @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a loop to loop handshake knot. I usually loop the mono long enough so I can fit the reel through it with a double surgeons knot. A smaller loop might be more efficient but I opt for the larger loop for convenience sake.

      Galeforce 15 meter is about 59 feet, about the same as the 54' Equalizer head. Lovely to cast and high linespeed with tight loops!
