One of the best progressive metal songs of all time. I know I'll get a bunch of nerds that dispute that, but idgaf. Tells such a crazy story and the musicianship is top notch. I really couldn't ask more from a band.

    • @mlowe787

@@paulsanchez1031 check this spencer video out if you haven't already. Every now and then I revisit and I'm just like, holy fuck. There's like 4 or 5 different kinds of reverb, layers everywhere, intentional clipping, tons of harmonies and octaves... it's just insane how much you don't hear because it's blended in the mix. That channel also has some vocal stems from Bieber (who I like a lot tbh) and other modern pop musicians for comparison. It's just miles apart in skill and execution from what Spencer is doing. He's underrated as hell.

Some things to reply to some of your comments:
1- it's a mix of live and vst strings. For prominent/solo parts it's emphasis on the live ones
2- the ostinato/pattern thing in 7/8 was written before the guitar part had been figured out. Watching a playthrough of that is crazy. Lots of movement.
3- they have producer packs that give you the stems from their more recent albums they self-produced. I think you'd really enjoy them. In this song, it reveals a creepy monologue that Spencer reads leading into the crazy riff solo thing.

I'm still super eager to see you listen to some Between The Buried And Me. Probably something from the album Alaska or The Great Misdirect. Their other albums (aside from earlier stuff) all flow between songs and it can be jarring to listen to a song picked from the middle of the mix. If you're willing to commit to a 18 minute song for a video I'd highly recommend Swim To the Moon off of The Great Misdirect. It's one hell of a journey.

Geebz, you are fantastic. Would LOVE to see your reaction to any of the following:
    Car Bomb - "Gratitude"

Destrage - "Are You Kidding Me? No."

Not sure if anyone else has commented, but the orchestral is live. It's written by Misha on a module, then recorded live by a full orchestra!

Much prefer the one by Caligula's Horse. I wanted to like Periphery but it's a bit too clinical... and I just can't hang with the 'emo vocals. 🤷‍♂️

Something you should check out because you liked Opeth and Karnivool is the Australian prog rock band CALIGULA'S HORSE - go for the song "Into the White" - it's beautiful.

"And the bass sound! I love tha bass sound in this one!". That's Adam Nolly for you 🙃 If there's one thing he's known for is his PHAT bass tone.

Please check out anything by The Dear Hunter - they're not as technical as some of the other bands often featured on your channel, but the composing and engineering on their albums, specifically Act IV and Act V, are just absolutely stellar and I would love to see a breakdown from your channel!

I normally wouldn't suggest a death metal band on this channel, but I'd love to see you take a look at anything from Ulcerate's new album Stare Into Death and Be Still! They use dissonance, very complex songstructure, and an overall crushing atmosphere that is really unique to them, but it's somehow really beautiful. It's like the musical equivalent of falling into a black hole, if that makes any sense. It managed to enter a lot of album lists last year, including my top 10!

You should take a look at Prayermonger or Abomasum by Toska, the soundscapes they create with their music are just incredible.

You should really checkout "Remain Indoors" , Periphery4 "Hail Stan" on your own time. (Documentaries)Periphery does a great job at self marketing and always has a documentary of the making of their latest album. The strings are synth and live. Their former bass player is a sought after producer in the industry now and yes his bass sound is amazing. He still plays bass for them even though not "in" the band. He is also a drum tone recording expert. Checkout more from them for sure even if 9n your own time. Mahalo🤙

Also, I'd love to see your take on any song by Starset. Maybe Monster or Ricochet to start, but really anything they do is good. ❤❤✌🏻✌🏻
