    • @DocturNull

If I'm not mistaken, there was a track that Bulb(Misha solo project before periphery if you didn't know, it's like 50/50 with people so I get it) called Absolomb. And I think this song was built off the bones of that later on, and basically brought back and modified for the progression of Misha, and it being a full band. So that might be where the early Periphery vibes come from, possibly. Regardless I definitely agree with you, and it's a favorite of mine

It was almost 3 years ago when Rick Beato broke this song down and got me into metal. I still don't know any more about musical theory and composition, but I understand a lot of the more intuitive things you describe about this track.
What's special to me about this song is how orchestral it is. The ending is beautiful, of course, and probably a key reason I kept giving it a chance until I decided I liked it, but there is more depth in the rest of the song too. I saw a comment one time describing the sound in the final verse, and it's hard to hear over Spencer's insane vocals, but there's a very grand, epic orchestral sound mixed in with the metal. I don't know if this is one of my true favorite Periphery songs, but I'm glad it was my first.
I kinda feel like he should do Ragnarok next 😁

I was already into a good bit of prog, but had been skirting around Periphery with this weird idea that they were more mainstream than actually prog, but Beato doing this song broke the ice for me and I fucking love the band now. I don't know if someone already pointed it out, but the arrangement at the end is actually a foreshadow of what's to come in the context of the album. The end here is actually the main hook for the song "Lune" of that same album. It's just played with guitars in Lune. The song "The way the news goes" of that same album has a piano arrangement of that part at the end, too. So it's a recurring theme of the album.

The fact that you mentioned the ambient guitar parts they often utilize at 8:30 is cool because it does go under appreciated by some amongst all the chugging riffs/solo's & leadwork sometimes. It is actually kind of as you described in their live sound because that they typically have 2 guitars chugging the rhythm parts hard L/R and then the ambient clean parts usually down the centre, one of the cool capabilities with having 3 guitarists for sure. This whole record is quite varied & interesting, you can tell Misha definitely upped the cinematic/triumphant aspects with all the orchestral arrangements & such. Interesting tidbit the section at 10:15 is a call back to an older track of theirs (I forget the name though haha)

Here is a request as per your new video for the 30 day countdown. Try out "Satellites" I recommend the Drum playthrough version because it plays the track with the added benefit of seeing the insanity of the drummer Matt Halpern! Enjoy man! Thanks for the content!

Kia Ora Geebz! I can't thank you enough for continuing on with Periphery, they are forever my number one favourite artists, consistently making music and evolving, I just flippin love them so much 🖤 And to watch you enjoying and peeling back the much loved layers of their songs, that I've already listened to hundreds of who knows of times, is such a delight for me being a fan of your work and theirs. I've paused it 2 seconds in to pour my heart out here, time to make a large coffee, sink into the couch and savour this one haha 🥰
Love your work Geebz, please keep it up as long as you love it too 💕 Aloha 🤙🏼

One super awesome thing with this song, particularly the orchestral part at the end. The melody and chord changes are kind of like a preview to Lune, the album's closing track (and one of my all time favorites). I think there's a few other parts in this album that have these motifs that preview other parts in other songs.

if you like periphery's heavier stuff you absolutely have to listen to fallujah's "dreamless" album. "the void alone" and "abandon" are such insanely good songs. they're not as djenty as periphery but theyre insanely good with the atomspheric metal and the prog sections. plus theyre nowhere near as popular as periphery so you get "underground" points ;)

      Been digging it here!
I was late to Leprous, only started listening to Pitfalls about 2 months ago and it's been on repeat, and now Aphelion has taken its spot.
Personally I'd love to see Geebz do "Distant Bells", that is genuinely one of the most captivating songs I've ever heard, Einars voice is truly magnificent.
