I have to say that when my wife and I decide some evenings on what to watch (stream), we sometimes just throw up our hands when we can't find a good movie or series and just say "I'll watch my TH-cam channels".... So much more informative, entertaining and positive. I'd say most evenings it's YT content and maybe 1 or 2 nights with streaming. Haven't watched anything network related in years.... (and don't miss it!)
I usually spend as long trying to find something I consider decent enough to watch on Netflix as it would take to watch a movie. So, yes, I often TH-cam instead. However, I do get a bit frustrated with the algorithm. I might want to watch a few sports highlights, but soon enough, that's the only choice I have, except for the videos that I have spent months not looking at that just keep reappearing day after day, month after month, year after year... for ice ages, in fact. Please, Mr David Gilmour, do an interview with Rick and also with Adam Reader (Professor of Rock) so that we get a full rounded interview.
Yeah, in our house, we gave up on broadcast tv/cable a number of years ago, except to watch an occasional hockey game. For the last three years, we don't even watch the hockey. So no tv/cable at all. I'd say I go to YT 70% of the time and streaming the other 30%. No ads, no schedules, vastly more informative and entertaining, and cheaper than our last mid tier cable company bill.
It's been more than a decade for me. The networks are going the way of the dodo. As they should. Corrupting uselessness never helped anyone. It's such a different world now. Wholesome has bizarrely become a target for ridicule. Depravity is being promoted over anything with substance because of the children of the misanthropes born to absentee parents who's most outstanding traits are apathy, cowardice, and self loathing. The collective soul of humanity is in real trouble.
This is what I can’t believe. So of all the musicians you’ve interviewed, none of them know David Gilmour and/or Jimmy Page enough to pick up the phone, call them directly and say, “hey Dave/Jimmy, there’s this guy named Rick trying to get in touch with you for an interview. I did it myself and honestly, it was great. Better than any interview I’ve given. You’d honestly enjoy the experience. Give your publicist a call and tell them to schedule it. You won’t regret it.”
The last thing these guys want to chat about is the business when they get a chance to talk... Nothing fishy at all. I have a friend who's in a major heavy metal band, he likes to discuss fishing and family. Not the business
I don’t know, that might be kind of annoying to them. I really think it’s probably people like Jimmy Page just want to be left alone and out of the limelight.
@@scttbull You seem to be missing the point. Beato doesn't interview them about 'the business'. He interviews them on their music. Musicians who are passionate about their music actually love to talk about it. Not the business, but their music. So it's kind of odd that he's interviewed all these greats but is unable to reach David Gilmour. I don't buy that. That's what's fishy.
A big reason I think TH-cam destroys everything else is because I can pick and choose exactly what I want to watch, when I want to watch it and can exit out anytime I want to. Terrible for mental health but great for a dopamine hit
It also has a wealth of content from people competing with each other forcing them to be better. This is real capitalism in action. Huge mainstream media became a horrible anti-competitive monopoly long ago. That's why it has no chance and is getting whipped. Rick here is an extremely talented person. Most people in Hollywood are not.
@@BaronVonMunchTH-cam doesn't practice Capitalism. It's techno-fascism. I don't even think they make a profit but it doesn't matter because Google makes so much money. The rules they set are enforced ambiguously and arbitrarily. They also unsub people and throttle videos that don't fit their narrative.
Or in-depth conversation. (Not criticizing your comment. I agree with it. It's just what my brain was expected to read. And it would work.)

Try getting Guy Pratt first. He's not only a terrific bass player with great stories but he is also part of Pink Floyd since the 80s. He is currently touring with Gilmour, by the way.
That's actually the perfect idea. Guy Pratt is well accustomed to TH-cam. I've seen him on some really good interviews. I think he was posting his own content at one point. He definitely has some sort of influence with David Gilmour. And it would be awesome just to listen to him talk to Rick for an hour. Then the next thing you know, David Gilmour is on Rick's channel! 😲
Guy would be such an awesome guest! I was thinking the same thing just last week. Would love to see Rick interview him. Guy was a guest on a music quiz show here in Australia a while back and he’s got such a great sense of humour and is an awesome storyteller
I am not a musician but I thoroughly enjoy your channel. From the “what makes this song great”, to the “spotify top 10”, and the interviews … everything is authentic, real, and rich with content. No fluff. No forced laughter. No meaningless “banter” (as one gets on some podcasts). Oh and the sound quality is ace! Well done Mr. Beato. Well done!
Plus his perspective would be interesting because he seems to get along with both Roger and Dave. Plus he was in the band at the beginning, more than we can say for Dave.
TH-cam knows me now. After years of faithfully watching Rick Beato, Otis Gibbs, Michael Palmisano, WAF, Daddy Stovepipe, and others, my musical world has expanded into previously unknown universes of wonderful musicians and people I now follow and listen to. My 70-year-old life has grown musically richer in the last ten years than all the years before, combined. The TH-cam algorithms pretty much get it right with the suggestions thrown my way when I open my funny little electronic device. It’s weird, but it’s beautiful. Above all, I thank Rick Beato for his hard work and incredible sharing!
I couldn't agree more with the statement about how Rick's video's have enriched the music in your life. I used to listen to a little jazz in between the rock I usually listen to. Rick has introduced me to a whole new world of musicians in the jazz world I really didn't know about before. Ron Carter, Jaco and Weather Report and Pat Martino, just to name a few. Prior to watching Rick's videos, my jazz collection was some Coltrane, Pat Metheny and Dave Brubeck's 'Time Out'. Not very wide of a selection.
Hang in there Rick.. Paul McCartny , David Gilmor, Mick Jagger and all these legends of music they will come around. They don’t need the money or the publicity , but will want to leave their story. Just keep doing interviews
This the best forum for legendary musicians to talk about music, for the love of music. Rick is an chill guy that's been around the block, and isn't bitter or gossipy. He just loves music.
FABULOUS idea! Tom Scholz's contribution to rock music in general, to rock guitar, to rock songwriting, and to rock music production renders him as important to the genre as Hendrix, The Beatles and Van Halen. Scholz is a genuine inventor in the mode of Edison and Graham Bell; a veritable genius. His inventions and inventiveness singlehandedly changed the face of rock music, and his influence remains as strong today as it was nearly a half century ago. Bring him on.
Rick, you do an awesome job! As a 52 yr old who didn't get to enjoy as much of the classic rock scene as I wished, your channel is my #1 go to for my rock deep dive fix. Thank you for what you do.
For sure, the best interviews with musicians on TH-cam. I look forward to meeting some absolutely legends for the first time, and really digging in deep with some of my heroes. Thank you.
Have you done :- Just a suggestion Brian Ferry or Brian Eno ? Roxy not the biggest band in the world : but avant-garde for their time. Eno being an early electronic music wallah.

Your interview's with both Maynard and Danny were great... is there any chance of closing the loop in the future with Justin and Adam? 🤷♂️ If anyone can get an interview with Adam, its you Rick! Give this this a thumbs up if you agree 😎👍🤘
I feel like Ed O’Brien would be the most comfortable out of the Radiohead members to do an interview. Either him or Phil Selway are the 2 best to do an interview
I'm 65 years old, and your interviews are so in depth and very entertaining. I just watched your interview with Alan Parsons and learned so much I was blown away. My son records, plays, and loves these kind of technical discussions and he loved it. Keep trying, maybe more will realize that they can go into an interview and talk all about music, and only music. Fascinating. Keep it up. Oh, I play violin and am classically trained so no matter if you just like to listen or play any instrument these videos are great.
Rick, I don't know you, I have nothing invested in you. But your interviews are interesting. I learn a bit more about music and the musicians I enjoy. Even when you talk way over my head I enjoy what you're saying. You're a communicator, and that's a fact.
Your channel is incredible because your content is organic. It's not prefabbed, and it's not some stupid silly topic for a laugh. It's an honest interview you never know where it's going to go or how it's going to turn out and that's beautiful.
@@attunementtarot Yes, David Byrne is a legend and Rick would bring out the best in him by his music- and production-focused style (versus personal stuff and chit chat, which, as a person on the Spectrum is not DB's comfort zone).

The dynamic of the channel stays relatively the same so we know what to expect. Very professional and kind, The information we receive from your videos is extremely valuable. No time for fluff, keep making great content. Lol, i can write a whole essay on the pro's of your channel, from music education to the informative interviews. By the way, the fact you are very "tactfully candid" and truthful the way you talk to viewers, is a huge draw to the channel. I know it makes me feel like your're just talking to me one on one if that makes any sense lol,
_"I know it makes me feel like your're just talking to me one on one if that makes any sense"_ Oh. it makes perfect sense to this Elvis aficionado 'cause he was famous for making the audience members feel like he was singing to them, individually.
Rick... You NEED to get Paul McCartney on. The universe has aligned and you have one of the most important jobs in music history and you need to interview the man who started it all. I mean cmon, Hendrix covered his songs!!!
OMG, that would be awesome. If you would permit me to make a suggestion, you could try to get a producer or engineer on the various sessions and have that person comment on how they tried to capture and complement the unbelievable and wonderful drumming of Professor Peart, may he RIP.
The in-depth interviews are greatly appreciated (so much so that I listened all the way through this video even though you didn't mention David Gilmour until the last 30 seconds....you managed to keep me interested). My favorite moment this year though, was when you got shut down by the keyboardist for Procol Harum after snarking at him about how one should REALLY play the organ part of Whiter Shade of Pale and then realizing to your horror that you were lecturing the actual songwriter. Internet sensation Rick Beato eating humble pie? Instant classic!
Would love to have you interview Tom Scholz. Many of us know his story, but I know you would get more out of him from a music perspective. The guy is literally a genius and unafraid at that. Van Halen was a genius without the degree from M.I.T. They both tinkered and chased tone. Amazing.
Those mainstream media guys are just fake people reading lines their staff wrote. You're a real person with genuine talent and passion. I love your channel and have turned many friends on to it who all love it as well. You've earned our loyalty Rick! ❤
You are doing an awesome service for musicians like me, raised on 80's metal and played guitar ever since. I am so glad to hear these musicians speak there mind , telling one of a kind stories, and sharing the process of how it all happens in the music industry. Keep up the good, no, fantastic work and pretty soon we will hear from Dave Gilmour and Jimmy Page. cheers
Somebody else in the comments suggested reaching out to Guy Pratt to do an interview. I think that's a fantastic idea. That right there would be the gateway to connecting with David Gilmore. Please consider it Rick. And Guy Pratt would be an amazing interview also in itself. He seems like a pretty tech-savvy guy who already has a presence on TH-cam. Go for it!

Such a true statement. I have learned from this channel more than my ex=teachers (no offense). I teach now and still point my students to a lot of Rick's videos (for more education).
Hello Rick, without a doubt you are the most appropriate interviewer for a musician invited to your program... for the simple reason that you know what you're talking about, you're a great musician and producer, and you have the best music channel in the world! I would love for you to listen to our music. A hug from Santiago, Chile.
Thank you for sharing not only your in-depth knowledge of music theory and music industry reality with all of us. But thank you also, for bringing high quality and useful interviews with real well known musical heroes. It’s really nice to hear it straight from those who lived and created the works of art we all wish to know. Playing by ear, even well trained ears such as yours, gets the job done. But seeing how the ones who created our beloved favorites actually did/do it themselves is always a treat. The stories being kept strictly to do with the music, as you point out, is also a welcomed change from the mainstream. Thank you for all you do, Rick!
Honestly, it takes some people a lifetime in music to even think of asking questions like "How far apart did you stand?", and others still a lifetime in music to fully appreciate the answers. With such a specific niche, you'd think audiences would be smaller. But somehow going truly in-depth into a topic, to the point where you completely "master" it, reveals certain universal truths that remain consistent across any and all domains. Gilmour is an amazing guitarist. He might even be my favorite, and I'd love to hear what he has to say. But mostly, I'm just interested in hearing HOW he'd say those deep nuggets of true wisdom that only come with mastery. That kind of thing really, really inspires me to create my own art, and I feel like it connects me to the amazing artists who came before me in some small way. You're a true master in your own right Rick, and I respect you in your striving to be a deep river in a world of shallow pools.
There is no comparison between your interviews and interviews by guys like Fallon, Colbert and Kimmel! Music is obviously a huge part of your life... your ability to go deep is crazy. This is the beauty of TH-cam (and certain long form podcast). Fallon, Colbert and Kimmel established themselves under the old mass-market media system. You had to appeal to the masses. TH-cam isn't mass media at all - you can go super deep on all sorts of weird interests/topics! Its wonderful. Thank you so much for your channel-I've enjoyed it greatly over the years and learned a ton!
I would almost rather have Robert Smith than David Gilmour. If I had to select between the two. I still can't believe Rick got Billy Corgan though. That was an amazing interview.
Rick, you bring up the Sting interview, and it raises an excellent point. That video ended up in my mentions, probably because I had been watching 80s videos on TH-cam recently, and I gave it a watch. I think I had encountered a few other of your videos in my recommendations, and may have even watched a few of the videos about Spotify Top 10s. And from the Sting interview I was led to the Brian May interview, and those two interviews hooked me in. Artists like Page and Gilmour, greats whose publicists aren't directing them to social media outlets such as your channel, are done a great disservice, because someone with your background is going to give a much better conversation than someone with only a superficial understanding of music and production. Keep doing what you are doing, and hopefully soon, before we lose some of these legends, you'll get the opportunity to do these interviews.

Hopefully, Cocomelon can get David Gilmour on - that'd be cool.
Brian Eno would be good.

A true genius of our time.
An Interview with Eno probably would take about 6 hours ❤

Rick you are the best. Every time I watch you I learn more about the music I grew up with and love. One thing that you have for your craft is PASSION!
Gilmour has a new album out, good chance to get him for an interview.
That's why I thought he might do a sit down with Rick. He'll be doing tons of interviews for the release and I hoped this channel would be a part of that.
Who knows though.
He's gonna be in the states in the near future
It’ll be way easier for Rick to fly to UK, giving him/us the chance of a Gilmore interview.
i think the way to Gilmour might be through the Rockonteurs podcast
Yeah, him and his daughter have some TH-cam presence. Not sure how much direct involvement they have with that, of course.
Dude, you're killing it. Jerry Cantrell and Dweezil Zappa in the last week and a half, Tony Levin, Alan Parsons in the last month??? Who else can do that?
Josh Freese, and Tom Bukovac.....plus all 3 of the Police as well.
The Dweezil thing blew me away.
@@AdamGotheridge I watched the whole thing, and I'm not a zappa guy at all. I respect the amazing work he did, and learning about it through Dweezil was super interesting, and he was just great at doing interviews.
Sometimes an interview is worth watching just for the quality of the conversation even if you're not necessarily a huge fan. That's what I love about this channel. Even when I'm not a fan of their music, I often become a fan of the person and their skillset and mindset.
@@JimmyNuisanceYou would be a Dweezil guy if you saw him live doing "Zappa does Zappa". All I can say is WOW. He and his band were ASTOUNDING musicians. I was never expecting it to be the fantastic show it was.
Rick, I don't know if you know how much we love your channel! We know you know what you're talking about, we appreciate your questions and your hard work and even your rants. We watch you because we appreciate the content you make. You're a joy man. It's great how much you love to teach and how genuinely interested you are in the people you talk with. Keep the great work man!
This didn't age well. 🤣 Congrats on getting David on the channel!
We appreciate you Rick! You are keeping music culture & history & education ALIVE!! Thank You!
I am right there with you!
TH-cam is AT LEAST 90% of what we watch. SEC football and sumo on cable, and next to nothing on broadcast.
Yeah true. Something fishy here.

You nailed it ! 👍
Exactly! Right before this video I was watching an old video showing Norwegian traditional basket weaving. No lie!
Why should that be bad for mental health ?
My wish list:Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, Mark Knopfler and Donald Fagen.

Wholesome to know people still care about depth in conversation
Great idea. Guy recently interviewed David Gilmour on his Rockonteurs podcast, and it’s on TH-cam!
Guy would be such an awesome guest! I was thinking the same thing just last week. Would love to see Rick interview him. Guy was a guest on a music quiz show here in Australia a while back and he’s got such a great sense of humour and is an awesome storyteller
True! It'll serve as a bridge to getting Gilmour on.

Beato. Well done!
Your doing all you can to get Gilmore and Page on so glad you had Brian May ❤ from Australia 🇦🇺
Very clever way of getting access to Gilmour 👏
Get Nick Mason first, an interview with him would be great in itself!
Plus his perspective would be interesting because he seems to get along with both Roger and Dave. Plus he was in the band at the beginning, more than we can say for Dave.
Yes! Plus he is so much more fun and enjoyable to talk to.
Yes Nick comes across as a top bloke in what I've seen and he's "in the middle" of the things
The only guy who's played on every Pink Floyd album. That would be amazing!
Totally agree!! Excellent suggestion!
This is what the internet should be about, learning and enrichment.

His inventions and inventiveness singlehandedly changed the face of rock music, and his influence remains as strong today as it was nearly a half century ago. Bring him on.
