      When I saw them live in 2014 I had a brief conversation with Christian, their guitar player, and I asked him if they'll ever play Born In Winter live. He told me that it uses sort of some special guitar tuning and it's probably never going to be in their set. Shame, cause I'm sure it would bring the house down, great dynamics

One of my favorite tracks by one of my favorite bands; thanks, man, that made my evening. Gojira, for me, is the evolution of the predecessor TooL's subgenre. It's so alien, foreign, novel ...never done before... it challenges your soul in it's darkness-void. It's not evil, it's not good...it's depth and void and power. It's themes are death, but not non-existence....not heaven or hell either...but ...just epic

    Grateful to of been able to stumble across this channel. It’s amazing to see, hear & feel the same expressions as Mr. Geebz. A few songs I strongly suggest: “Toxic Garbage Island” “Mouth of Kala” “Art of Dying” maybe even their live performances as well. They sound great live just as they do in their albums. 😎🤘🏽 cheers Geebz! Thank you for sharing!

    Oh man I just discovered this channel! I’d love you to do anything by one of my favorite bands Between The Buried And Me!
    Prog metal at its finest! Sun of Nothing, Ants of the Sky, White Walls, Selkies the endless obsession nearly all of their songs would make for great reviews!

    I'm still here!
    Geebz, I don't think I have ever posted a comment on a youtube video, but I wanted to say that I love your vibe! Though reaction videos are dime a dozen these days on this platform, I keep on wanting to watch yours because you have a critical, yet super open approach to analyzing the pieces you hear/watch. Suffice it to say, I was not surprised when I looked through your older videos and saw meditation videos and chakra-centered explorations. As a fellow explorer of that realm, I appreciate the simultaneous comfort you bring with your dynamism when you do these videos.
    Anyhow! I also have 2 recommendations!
    You have reacted to a few Opeth songs, and I think the song Blackwater Park (from the album of the same name) is a journey you'd super dig!
    But I also have a non-metal suggestion! Agnes Obel is a wonderful songwriter from Scandinavia and her song Fuel to the Fire has some vibes you have not yet talked about on the channel and I am super curious what you would feel about them!

    • @dodgrblu
      @dodgrblu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Vacuity is great, along with Toxic Garbage Island. I find it hard to get into many other Gojira songs, a lot like Tool, I find they don't really quite achieve what people describe they do, and there is a lot of sameness to their tracks.

    GOJIRA! Amazing live! One of the most thoughtful metal bands out there...... Love these masters so much!

  • @mikemarino7806
    @mikemarino7806 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, I'll start by saying that I REALLY enjoyed your analysis of this...and I'm pausing at 6:50 to compliment you, and the band, for drawing you into the adventure they wanted you to go on with them...let me explain:
    As you describe the "travel check", of them bringing you along without going full steam, I couldn't help but smile to myself and think "oh, dude, you're walking RIGHT into it...it's about to happen!"
    You see, I love Gojira, I think they're the heavy metal leaders in the world right now, and this song in particular is perhaps their most creative piece as far as showcasing the depth of their musical ability as a cohesive unit. There's a looming presence in this song, one with some borderline viking/mongolian undertones of the low, open throat vocals, and almost a feel of old school chanting music. It's an ominous feel, that stays in the lower register, and then the song smacks you in the face with an operatic entrance into stadium-type volumes. I can't say enough good things about this song, and I really, REALLY appreciate your review of it.
    The song clearly lets you know that "things aren't right" for the beginning, and at 7:00 of your video, it's show time - all the drama, all the buildup, and all of the groundwork comes to fruition in what feels like a bad dream come true...a menacing event to the ears.
    I think that ultimately, my favorite creative element of this band, is their ability to take a fairly structured 4/4 time signature, and to "busy up" the subdivision of notes in each measure, and to create a feeling of something more complicated. These guys are truly masters of their craft, and you sir, are truly a master of appreciating the craft of these types of musicians. You've gained a subscriber for sure, and I look forward to watching more of your videos!

    This song by Gojira carries within an emotional charge that's both special and characteristic of Gojira. Grats for the content, I also suggest you check out Ulcerate - Stare into death and be still, powerful and intense as it can get

I've requested Dimmu Borgir's The insight and the catharsis a few times in the past and would love to see that but also would love to see you react to anything off of Opeth's Still Life album. I particularly enjoy Godhead's Lament and White Cluster. Those pieces have some fun arrangements and i think you'll really enjoy the opening riff to Godhead's Lament. It's one of my favorite riffs by Opeth who I am unsure if you can tell is my favorite band. Hope your days are warm and sunny.

  • @seanfrancis2
    @seanfrancis2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Here are some Gojira songs for you that I absolutely love: "Where Dragons Dwell"; "The Art of Dying"; "Flying Whales"; "Oroborus"; "Global Warming"; "Backbone"; "Silvera"; "Stranded"; "Magma"; "Pray"; "L'enfant sauvage"; "Gift of Guilt"; "World to Come"; "Ocean Planet"; "Adoration for None"; "The Cell"; "Esoteric Surgery"; "A Sight to Behold"; "All the Tears"; "Vacuity"; and "Explosia". "The Art of Dying" is arguably their toughest song to play, to the point they no longer play it live because it is so hard to play it burnt them out. Gojira is arguably one of the most Technically Proficient bands in Metal right now, and it is amazing to see how well they just play live, my favorite live band. "Born in Winter" is an amazing song to just sit back and listen to.

  • @MattiasWalc
    @MattiasWalc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hahah the reaction at 1:57 ”of tiiiime”, I think it’s a C2 (or D2), it sounds so good. I think Joe said in an interview that Born in Winter is hard for them to play live because of how low he has to sing in the intro,- so far, to my knowledge, they haven’t played this one live yet

    • @Celatra
      @Celatra 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's an E.
      Though the part where he goes "all was created out of the night "
      It's a 3rd below the E, and that's a C. Joe always sings the root note, so if the song is in E, he sings in E.

    • @MattiasWalc
      @MattiasWalc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Celatra I know that Gojira usually plays in C standard so I assumed it was either that or D standard, so the root of either those. But apparently he sings an E flat there

    Gojira do use layering and effects in recordings but they absolutely kill it live in barebones type performances with just synths playing and them playing everything else live with the vocalist doing everything live and sounding amazing. Saw them live in Nottingham UK in a small venue up front close and personal.. incredible band live..
    Suggestions:
    Chelsea Wolfe - The Culling
    Ulver - All the love.
