Do you think this engine will be a success for Harley-Davidson going forward? Oh by way I pronounced Chassis wrong, yes I know the correct pronunciation, I’m human, I make mistakes. Thanks for watching!
I think it was a great idea to put this engine in an adventure bike. Once the kinks are worked out I could see them spreading it to other chassis. Maybe throw some fins on it to give it that old school look and have it slowly implemented in some of the touring bikes. Going to be tough with all the hate current H-D buyers give when something new comes out.
Give me this engine in a road glide and I’m a happy camper. Keep the styling of the road glide, put this motor in it! Put the radiator in the lowers and keep the road glide how it looks.
I was thinking the same. I'd like more torque though... I thought about more displacement but I think realistically a turbo or supercharger would be awesome.
This is all good news! The hydraulic valves is a big plus for me! No expensive valve maintenance for ever! Plus variable cam timing. This engine sure sounds like a winner. I hope it all works out. Time will tell. Fingers Crossed!
Harley has had hydraulic lifters in the V twins since the 50s on some model engines with no adjustments needed so this isn't really anything new for them . Most people who build a V twin engine for performance usually get rid of the hydraulic lifters & go solid because you get less valve float and you get more lift out of the cam plus higher RPMs because with hydraulic lifters once the oil thins down from heat you loose some lift plus their is always a slight delay between the hydraulic lifter & push rod to rocker arm & with solids you have none of that but the down fall of solids is more maintenance & if you over rev the engine often times you end up with bent valves or holes in the pistons from the valves smashing into the tops of the pistons especially if you have a ignition that doesn't have a rev limiter built in or an adjustable rev limiter . Looks to be a great engine but looks ugly compared to the air cooled V twins in my opinion . It's too bad Harley pulled out of Super Stock bike drag racing after all the years winning quite a bit using the V rod engine that pushes those bikes to low 7s in the sanctioned 1000 ft drag strip at over 190 mph because I would be curious to see if Harley or Vance & Hines would maybe try to use these engines in this class for racing or not . Supposedly the V rod engines used on the drag bikes are making close to 1000 hp from what I read on race fuel with injected throttle bodies but no other power adders like a turbo blower or nitro or nitrous which is crazy hp for a V twin .
@@RidingintheOzarks I hope so because the only name that's used for the HD drag race bikes are Buell showing on the tanks and I would rather see the name Harley Davidson on the tanks . I also wonder if maybe HD could use this engine in the new flat track bikes as well to at least compete with the Indian that not only stole some of HDs riders but we're smart enough to start engineering testing & building their new flat track bikes before HD did & pretty much has dominated the last few years with it .
It is a maintenance free system, and with a chain instead of pushrods, they will work fine. My '95 pc800 has them and it works great, however I did once swap all of them out in a bmw 316i because of a defect bucket (clack clack clack) and I did see that happen on honda shadows. So maintenance free yes, not problem free. I think the electrically adjusted camshafts will prove more of a reliability issue. We'll just have to wait for 1 or 2 years.
I had a1992 BMW r100gs. I’ve also had a dyna glide. I often said My perfect bike is a combination of the 2. That is what this is. Good luck with your new bike, I’m putting money aside for one.
I would wait on buying a first year it comes out. I bought a new 2015 street 750. You would not believe there problems it had. The valve covers leaked replaced under warranty. They claimed bad retainer bolts and defective gasket. Steering head bearings in triple tree were not sealed right from factory water got in there locked up steering could not move so rusted and seized replaced whole front assembly under warranty. Two recalls for safety bad fuel pump and rear deflector not to standard. Handle bar controls came apart while riding scary. Another warranty claim. I know the msrp on Pan-America is $17,000 plus starting msrp vs $7,565. Harley hasn't built a all new bike since 2015 and before that 10 plus years. Let's say the engineers forgot how to build a reliable safe bike. Hope you the best of luck with your Pan-America motorcycle 🏍. This was my experience with a all new harley platform motorcycle.
@@paramount10987 Idk those new bmw r1250gs are pretty sweet minus the price tag of course, I have a 06 gs got a good deal on it for 5 grand and it runs great leans nice , couldn't be happier. Then again got lucky , prev owner babied it.
I got mine 3 days ago and already put 800 miles on it. Amazing product from Harley. BTW, it was a trade in on my '17 SGS. Love it, the best bike I ever had, and I had so many.
HD needs to replace their entire line of engines with maybe even larger displacement revolution max engines for their cruiser and touring frames within the next 5 years. Maybe keep the older air-cooled sportsters for nostalgic reasons and keep releasing special editions
At first, when HD introduced this bikes past year, i was sceptical and i laugh at the design... But when this bike get out and all the spec are listed out, i was in aww... Yess, pie on my face...
Yeah it was surprising to see Harley actually make a good engine after so long. An air cooled longitudinally mounted vtwin is likely the worst design of an engine that there is, the cooling is a joke.
I hope harley gets with the times and makes cool bikes with competitive H.P. and performance. Can't keep making the same old bikes it's killing the brand. And that's coming from a guy who rides a Road King
This, I heard of the story of harley losing money by going to a liquid cooled DOHC and harley fans wanting the brand staying to the traditional fin and pushrod. Eventually leading to harley being more of a brand than motorcycles. I like this and I wish they would release this engine or more liquid cooled DOHC for their other riding styles
@@jeremiahwalker2303 what's killing the brand is the price, not performance. The iron line should not cost near 5 figures. Drop those bikes down to between 7 and 8 grand and they'll fly out of shops.
I’m a KTM and Ducati guy. This 1250 Revolution Max 6 engine seems to be state of the art. The only features I didn’t hear described are vacuum pump evacuation of the crankcase and dry sump oil system. I wonder if these features are included? Of course, a different variant of this engine could include these features. I am impressed and will consider Harley-Davidson in the future.
It really looks like they've done their homework designing a platform for the stricter euro emissions. I think we'll see a smaller displacement version of it to help sales in countries with license cc restrictions. I also think we'll see it in a sportster sized chassis for the same reasons.
It seems a perfect fit for an updated version of the sportster and I think that would be a home run for HD! Light weight, inexpensive, EPA compliant, cruiser with modern tech and real performance? Yeah, that makes sense!
@@Bandit-co9xc I am excited to see what the MoCo does with this new engine. After the Sportster changes, I really wanna see a performance bagger with this in it as well as some other updated performance items like Ohlins suspension as well as cutting edge tech.
its nice for harley to build something thats not just a cosmetic change of the same old stuff.i allways thought the "heritage" they pushed was nonsense.it allowed the worlds bike designers to leave harley in there dust while harley was making updates to ancient designs.congrats to harley for getting out of the 1950's design mentality.they may just survive after all.
@@lonniecross4698 I meant the 2021 Pan America 1250 with sport tires and hard saddlebags is about the closest thing you're probably going to get from an American motorcycle company making a Sport Touring bike! I personally would rather have the Revolution Max 1250 Sportster S though it's more of a modern Cafe Racer/Bobber style of bike!
@@lonniecross4698 I just watched that reveal for the new H-D Sportster S and I still had it on the brain still, sorry! Yeah Americans don't really make a Sport Touring Bike at all!
I'd say Harley needs to get something in the hottest selling genres right now, and for starters the ADV bikes are at the top of that. Probably naked sports/street bikes would be next. After that, performance bagger/touring machine. A true sports-tourer isn't a hot seller at all and many brands have gotten out of them; bikes such like Concours 14, FJR1300, Ninja 1000SX, H2SX. Gone are ST1300, VFR800/1200, Sprint ST 1050, GSX-1250FA, etc. Now it's 5 different versions of an ADV, old legacy sports-tourers that've been around a long time, sports nakeds, classic/heritage/retro/cafe stuff, and superbikes. Then there's the big tourers with big bags and tons of weight.
It’s a work of art. So glad to see Harley Davidson stepping up their game with this new, modern, power plant of an engine! I have been saying for a while that they absolutely must start building bikes that can at least compete with the Indian scouts and now the rebel 1100. I mean you just cannot have Honda building a better sportster than you! Or Indian for that matter! New custom 1250, then a couple of 975 varieties, 975 ADV bike, this engine opens up a whole new world of possibilities for Harley, and the consumer! Keep the bikes coming, I say! Love it!
@@RidingintheOzarks I bet it will. Looks like the way they’ve tuned that engine, it should rip pretty nicely! Making it’s power right in the sweet spot for a cruiser bike, from what I’ve seen and heard. It is the “modern” sportster.
"stepping up their game" more like finally making a half good engine that can compete with modern roads and heat. Everything up until this has been a total joke as far as engineering.
Lots of great information here. I can’t wait to see this bike in person! I hear a lot of people talk about how much they want one. I hope Harley hits a home run with this one.
Who woulda thought getting rid of the obscene longitudinal air cooled vtwin would be such a success. The design of their engines has been atrocious for the last say, 70 years.
@@RidingintheOzarks I'm not into the ADV touring. I ride about 20K back road miles a year. "Sporty" touring and seeing new places is my thing. The Pan America could be a replacement for my current ride. A "sport touring" focused bike with that engine... that's what would, no doubt, get my money.
Yet HD is most popular Brand in the US... just cause it isn't what you want doesn't make it awful...I am all for HD offering more and different Motorcycles. Are Honda VTX motors antique and awful too?
As long as the oil changes are easy and the primary chain is gone, and full LED lighting I would like to see a version of this bike bumped up to 1400 and put in a street glide, road king, and heritage classic with no change to the style of the bike, just add a motor. The days of those hot air cooled engines with the loud shifting clunk are gone. Liquid cooling is the way forward to get those hot volcanoes between your legs in check as well as all the unnecessay engine parts like pushrods, pushrod lifters, rocker arms and a big huge left side primary chain rotating in oil using 1950'/1960's technology. Being to old school has hurt HD, technology advancement is everything going forward.
Put it in the Road King Special and ill get one. Make the 114 the standard engine in the touring chassis bikes and attach the Revolution max with the special models. I think it would be super successful.
Great engine... high performance, low maintenance that hopefully will prove to be very reliable. They are off to a good start with new innovation in the PA, with HD's new management and vision here's hoping they really branch out and offer more new models to compete in several categories.
Harley made a sporty looking cafe many years ago. If they tried again with this Revo stressed member concept they might be on to something that appeals to another set of riders that want a bike that is both heritage and handling with a great retro look and sound.
Hammer has a maxed out build of the evo Sportster making about 130 WHP. This could easily start at 150 engine HP. Ok somebody is going to complain about the sound but that power will sell bikes.
@@vernlochtefeld1626 this is the engine from the vrod, anything they did to make it emissions compliant they could have done to the vrod. Sad day, I would have loved to see the vrod stay and them still expand the lineup into models like this
I think it will fail, 1st. When I go into the dealership nobody is exited about everyone calls it an overgrown blast. A couple guys said it's no Ulysses. So if the people selling aren't behind it it's doomed. 2nd it's overpriced I mean if you get all the accessories you've got as much as touring bike invested. If you're going to sell to the target market you need to get in that price range. That being said I can't wait to go ride one next week at my dealer. I hope they expand on this motor and build one for touring bikes.
I think the 975 Bronx is going to give the BMW R nine T some real competition. A naked”R” and a “GS” in smaller cheaper more basic configuration and a cruiser touring version that appeals to both those of us who prefer a more relaxed comfortable ride. I love the Pan Am and am seeing long term reviews saying it is as much a Sport Touring as Adventure bike. The biggest issue I see Harley having is convincing people to buy the new Sportster S over the PanAm. Myself I’ve been waffling. I don’t intend to ever ride two up, my wife is uninterested to say the least, and don’t plan to go trail blazing but would take the basic off-road course. The Sportster S is cool but you can’t hang bags on it as far as I can tell, the thing has such limited suspension travel and it’s almost a hard tail.
I'm wondering about the cylinder bores, with the rings riding directly on the aluminum. It may save a little weight and production costs. Reminds me of the Chevrolet Vegas, a very short lived engine. The bike is very complex, it may be too costly to fix down the road, resulting in low trade in value......
BMW has been doing it for years. The Vega was just chrome plated cyl bores. This is much different. It should be good for a 200,000 mile motor. . . . If Harley does it right.
I think all modern engines with so much electronics are costly to fix, I personally don't see this being any worse this most other modern bikes with same tech.
I personally think that this is something Harley has needed to do to stay competitive with the rest of the market. I think they need to keep the bigger bikes air cooled and be more like Indian in their approach. For example, the Chief line has the thunderstroke air cooled mill and then build a lighter bike using the new liquid cooled mill to compete with the scout and then another for rivaling the challenger. Let's face it if they want to stay sport competitive liquid cooled mills allow for greater power figures that are sustainable over greater distances at much higher revs. Indian has a couple of different liquid cooled mills and an air cooled mill. If Harley-Davidson could bring another LCM offering to compete directly with the scout and one for the challenger, I believe they will pull in more of the younger crowds. I do not think they should completely abandon air cooled pushrod engines as it will cause the more die hard enthusiasts to jump ship but they need to offer up designs that will compete with all of the Indian models directly as that is the rivalry that has always been and like in years long past Harley needs to play catch up because Indian is kicking their butts. They need to reconsider the vrod which was in my opinion what the scout was directly competing against.
@@RidingintheOzarks Harley-Davidson has always stayed with if it isn't broke don't fix it when it comes to the designs of their machines and have relied on nostalgia to promote their sales. The V-rod, the street series, and now the Pan-American have been the only true deviations from design cues that have been around since the 50s. The FL has been one of the longest running model designations. It is nice to see some true modernization. The AMF days had Harley-Davidson branded Aerimacchi bikes that served as dual sports and lightweight entry bikes but they were never Harley designs this is Harley collabs with Harley designs which makes it more authentic and appealing.
Great job on the video! I had a BMW GSA with the shift cam and was wondering if the PanAm was similar and after watching your video on the engine details I could see what appeared to be the solenoids to achieve the same technology. Also the clarification of hydraulic no maintenance valves was great. I test rode the PanAm last week and have to admit HD did a pretty good job. Would I get one to do my cross country rides instead of the comfy reliable Ultra I usually ride? Hell ya! This is not a KTM or GSA and I am glad it is not. The PanAm is more comfortable and nearing 70 years old losing 400 lbs while increasing performance is a huge bonus. Thank you for putting this video together in a quick, neat and technical fashion.
I had a 2012 V-Rod Muscle, and had I not injured my back id still be riding it but the forward pegs made the riding position impossible to hold for long. A few years ago I was able to ride my buddies 2005 Street-Rod with the center controls and ever since I've been hoping they would make a new one. After the V-Rod got cancelled I gave up hope but with the new sportster I'm hoping to get a new one this year.
It is a sharp looking engine design... no doubt. Let us see how this engine pans out in a new years. I believe HD will be making a version of this engine for their touring bikes in the near future. Many of us want reliability and longevity. Our air cooled engines suffer from overheating, which requires expensive upgrades to tackle. Time will tell. I highly recommend never buying any new HD design until the bugs are ironed out. Look at the nightmares with the 17-19 M8s. Excessive oil consumption, sumping, etc...
I have insider information that Harley-Davidson designed the Revolution Max engine however there were other players in the business that got involved (fuel injection, VVT, electronics, exhaust and other engine components) in the development like everyone else but the design is owed by Harley-Davidson. Some may ask is it similar to the Engine that is going in the new Sportster S platform? That engine is a new engine (LaMotta) and technology.
Really according to Harleys Press Release it’s the same basic engine.. different heads and pistons to match the heads combustion chamber, different valve sizes, cam profiles and VVT phasing, different intake and exhaust… I wouldn’t argue it’s a different motor but not different technology…
@@RidingintheOzarks I guess they allowed LaMotta to do some things to it also. If you Google LaMotta you'll see the Sportster S platform but no association with it for some weird reason
All good info and I applaud Harley for taking this initiative and hope they have nothing but success but I have a few obvious questions from the cheap seats not mentioned in your video: 1) Who was the brain trust behind the engine design? Inhouse Harley/USA, third party engineering like the V-Rod, or? Highly complex engines can have highly complex problems if not engineered correctly and as a potential customer I want more than faith in the bar & shield that they got it right, I want credentials with credibility. When the cheese slides off the cracker the owner gets to hold the bag, especially down the road if problems persist (wouldn't be the first time a manufacturer walks away from a design). 2) Where is it manufactured? Harley leans on their "Made in the USA" title but have shown increasing shifts to leverage global manufacturing (no different than many other manufacturers) and I would want to know whose manufacturing economy my money is supporting. Note: I'm Canadian so I lost out on any outcome of this but I would think this is very dear to their core customers concerns. I haven't read anything about domestic production nor the involvement of an engineering company with a depth of experience in these technologies which makes me wonder. I think it would be nice to know, no matter the answer.
I believe it is mentioned in the Video Harley Davidson just put on TH-cam that the Bike is assembled at the York, Pennsylvania, Motor and Transmission is built in Milwaukee. As far as I know this design is inhouse. I haven't seen or heard anything to make me think otherwise.
I would like to see that motor in a smaller stripped down platform that would inspire the chop culture of the American garage junkies to build some insane bikes. I see lots of possibilities here.
You missed one of the main things, the newly designed crank! Not only is it completely different, but it's one of the main reasons this engine can now spin 9000+ rpm.
@@RidingintheOzarks the HP is great ! Lol but it will meet more displacement to bring up the torque for a heavier bike like a bagger. So I could see 160HP 135lbsft

I ride a hotrod Dyna and would like the see this motor in a Dyna type standard. Especially if they could give the engine a more classic look with some added cooling fins maybe
The Pan Am was one of the beast adventure touring bikes I have ridden and I have owned a Multistrada Enduro. but 25k OTD for the S model without the bags and no auto blipper? Still shooting themselves in the foot.
Make a sport tour bike my BMW R1250RT which pretty much sets the standard for the style. Below one liter is where a lot of growth is both on road and off road.
I too would like to see this engine in a sport touring bike, but they don't sell very well in the US market...my favorite bike the R1250Rt is just too expensive to maintain, and the BMW dealer network is terrible! That being said...why not put this engine on the street glide, sounds like they should ASAP!
Maybe someday but that means frame redesign which touring bikes are about do for but it maybe a few years, I expect they want to see how well this engine is accepted...
Great video I learned a couple things I didn't know thank's, I bought a special few months back and love it. The handling, power and functionality of this motorcycle is amazing.
I think there will be coming a bagger with a new frame with this engine which will outperform the rest of the market. Also because here in Europe whe have severe rulings
@@RidingintheOzarks nah... the challenger is just a knock off... fit and finish is crap, paint compared to hd is poor and the 131 m8 kills the challenger. To me indian / polaris is a bad copy... they copy more then the chinese do. Not only from HD, but also from bmw, husqvarna...
sell it as a crate engine and make so its cvt snowmobile clutch version( no tranny) ... 150 hp from 2 cyl that a good power to weight ratio! i can think of engine swaps already!
Sport touring version of the pan-america. Change the tires, maybe change the fuel mapping, pit cool bags on it, and there you go. A $20,000 full on sport tourer with it's specs is a decent deal. The GS1250RT comes out around $22,000 USD. Harley is going to have the frame, because Harley makes good frames, suspension has always been the weak spot, but $2000 at tge dealer gets you better suspension than BMWs stock. Or maybe someday Harley does a SE suspension package that is what their motorcycles deserve.
I've had a few Harley's and I like this bike, not enough to part with my GSA though. Harley on all their bikes really needs to find a better way to route the exhaust like straight down from cylinders, and hide those red hot pipes away from rider and engine.
If Harley used more aluminum and carbon fiber they could use this in their larger baggers as you would not need as much torque off the line. Making the engine part of the frame on their touring bikes would bring the weight down.
They drop that in a sportster like segment, let the hp wars begin! Indian will respond and we all get better bikes. Win win win win! Video was amazing man, very well done!
@@RidingintheOzarks yeah but honda ya just get what ya get, no aftermarket performance usually, like the Goldwing. .......... 😭😭😭 how did everyone just look past the vrod? This engine came from the vrod and the “street rod” VRSCR would be a sportster like bike with the engine in it. They were amazing bikes that Harley purists sabotaged
@@RidingintheOzarks True for some! While I like some of the older models more and think they are awesome and should be there in the lineup forever with little enhancements, these newer, advanced and refined models are a lot appealing too and I am sure there is a growing number whose first and preferred bike would be these newer models though - so, Harley is doing the right thing by stepping up while still reviving the models that brought them glory!
I have one and on the road the Pan Am is awesome. Off-road, the engine and chasis doesn’t match up the best. Power is great, but it’s heavy. And the chasis doesn’t catch up with the engine very well. Definitely need knobby tires off-road. Harleys stock tires are horrible off-road. 👍
Make it a Sportster motor. Classic Sportster styling, staggered tapered mufflers. My favorite. And for god's sake, Harley should offer muffler "options", instead of me buying a bike with mufflers I hate, then replacing the mufflers for $1000.
@Ben Daulton so you claiming the Harley-Davidson Sportster isn't good at handling is that right? How do you explain Harley-Davidson Sportsters winning dirt track races for 50 years?
There's no getting around the messy looking plumbing and complexity of liquid cooled bikes unfortunately. Understandably, its the way forward but we'll forever look back at air-cooled blocks as works of art.
I think they should use this engine as a "Sport" model for all of their cruisers right now. Softail Standard Sport, Road King Sport, Sportster Sport. They did that with the Dynas and sportsters back in the day. Superglide sports and Sportster sports. So do it now! Give the bikes front adjustable forks, and adjustable rear shocks. Dual Disk upgraded brakes. Take the lean angles from 25/28 degrees to 34/36 degrees. THATS what the market wants. That's why all the old FXR's and Dynas are being bought up and turned into sport cruisers. Imagine a 1000cc revo engine in a sporty. Or a 1250cc in the Softail. Then for the bigger tourers do a 1450 or 1500cc. They would FLY out of the showrooms.
I am with you on some of this but I don't sacrifice the comfort for lean angle, I just rode the Rebel 1100 DCT with 34 degrees and they did that and I think the foot pegs and leg ergos are not good. Remember cause it is a different motor means a different frame and that is costly, the softails just a got a new frame a few years ago so while we will see new models that maybe similar like the custom 1250 I would not expect to see traditional softails get the Rev Max treatment anytime soon. And I agree some of the markets wants this but I see plenty of comments from the die hards that don't want that too... Best option build different bikes to suit both kinds of riders...
@@RidingintheOzarks Yeah I know it just wouldn't be cost-effective at all. Maybe they should take a little bit of the tech and try to fit it into the 114's but again, idk if that is cost-effective. I currently own an 01 Superglide sport that has a 34-degree lean angle and there's a reason I haven't let go of it lol. I know they can do and do it very well. I think they will just have the two separate lines of bikes. As you said, the traditional cruisers and the new. Hopefully, the new custom will have a more traditional cruiser trim level in the future. Still, if they could find a way to just slap that thing into the Softail, even as a 1 off, I'd love to see it!

So they are once again trying the dual pin crank that everyone else uses. Gone is the harley idle vibration. Hope it works, but hope they can keep a rumbling single pin crank motor for the nostalgia..
Thanks for information on this engine and I truly hope they develop something that's a beast for the street under that engine platform and I hope they drop it soon cause it's what I'm waiting for to make decision on my next bike.
I would like to see the Bronx with the full power 1250 with 150hp. A true naked sport bike. Keep the electronic controls of the PA out. Just deliver a balls out naked sport machine at a reasonable price. Somewhere in the next two years a sport touring model (150 hp) designed to look some what along the lines of the Buell S3T Thunderbolt. I would be first in line at my dealer for one.
The frame design where the motor is the main stress member was done famously by Vincent black shadow. My question is will they find away to make this motor for the soft tail line then boost up the sportster cc with maybe a twin cam up grade. As far as making a modern Engine I don’t know if I would call it that I would call it a new look with new tech based off old way of design
This is just my guess but the new engine will primarily be for new model of bikes like the Custom 1250, maybe the bronx if it comes back, a new Sport Touring model I hope... They have a patent on a Air Cooled VVT pushrod motor and I think that it is most likely to be a the next new motor design for the classic bikes. I still think the Sportster is dead after this year, the Custom 1250 will be the replacement but I don't think they will go with the Sportster name any more.... Just my Opinion, I been wrong many times before.
Completely off topic from the video but I would love to see a modernized Evo engine, basically a 883/1200 milwaukee 8 that they could put in the sportster...that is if they don't cut the sportster.
I like this motor but the air cooled ones do look a bit cooler due to their heritage. In the future this engine is the only thing that will keep the motor company alive though.

Yes.
There is some great technology and innovation in this engine. I know this is a step in the right direction.
It’s the base engine which they will evolve a new set of bikes. The future custom (Nightster?) with the same engine will be a beast

This is all good news! The hydraulic valves is a big plus for me! No expensive valve maintenance for ever! Plus variable cam timing. This engine sure sounds like a winner. I hope it all works out. Time will tell. Fingers Crossed!
I like the fact that it has hydraulic valve lash Adjusters. Real world reliability, ease of maintenance, and cost of maintenance will be seen in time.
Agree but if it performs as well as it looks on paper it should be a plus!
@@peteloomis8456 I am wondering if they won’t get back into drag racing after they get this engine out in the custom 1250...
This is a game changer for HD. I get mine in May. I already have all my accessories in the garage.
Awesome now that’s is enthusiastic!!

HD needs to throw this in a street glide🙏
I got mine 3 days ago and already put 800 miles on it.
Amazing product from Harley.
BTW, it was a trade in on my '17 SGS.
Love it, the best bike I ever had, and I had so many.
HD needs to replace their entire line of engines with maybe even larger displacement revolution max engines for their cruiser and touring frames within the next 5 years. Maybe keep the older air-cooled sportsters for nostalgic reasons and keep releasing special editions
Bring back the BRONX!!!
This engine in a road king would be awesome really.. a 1650 or so would be great..
I do hope Harley is successful with it but I hope the keep more traditional engines and bikes in the US market.
THey pateneted an air cooled motor with VVT last year. I expect it to be the next engine for the traditional bikes.
They need to quit caring what you old heads want. Get your trike, and let me have my pan America
I rode the new pan America last weekend on there demo day. This bike is a work or art. The engine is quite. So fast. So nimble I love it.
I did to have a first ride video coming out this weekend
I’m a KTM and Ducati guy. This 1250 Revolution Max 6 engine seems to be state of the art. The only features I didn’t hear described are vacuum pump evacuation of the crankcase and dry sump oil system. I wonder if these features are included? Of course, a different variant of this engine could include these features. I am impressed and will consider Harley-Davidson in the future.
I believe it has the feature or a form of them but it was not till after I made the video that I was aware of them.
Traded my bmw for a pan am! Pan am is more fun, faster, more powerful to me.
It really looks like they've done their homework designing a platform for the stricter euro emissions. I think we'll see a smaller displacement version of it to help sales in countries with license cc restrictions. I also think we'll see it in a sportster sized chassis for the same reasons.
I sure hope sooner than late!
I believe that '20 was the last year of the sportster in Europe. So they have some catching up to do already.
It seems a perfect fit for an updated version of the sportster and I think that would be a home run for HD! Light weight, inexpensive, EPA compliant, cruiser with modern tech and real performance? Yeah, that makes sense!
You called it. This motor will be available in the Sportster S.
I would like to see a 1900CC version of this engine
I want to see this engine in a sport touring bike.
It already is, check out the new H-D Revolution Max 1250cc. Sportster S!
@@RollingArtDesigns that’s cool but it’s in no way, shape, or form a sport tourer.
Love it!
I rode that Rebel 1100 today and it will get with it.
@@RidingintheOzarks I bet it will. Looks like the way they’ve tuned that engine, it should rip pretty nicely! Making it’s power right in the sweet spot for a cruiser bike, from what I’ve seen and heard. It is the “modern” sportster.
@@robbyclark6915 well it doesn’t sound or feel like a sporty and there is some weird ergonomic’s with foot pegs
Thanks Ty! I am hoping to do a demo ride in a few weeks on one, thanks for watching!
Who woulda thought getting rid of the obscene longitudinal air cooled vtwin would be such a success. The design of their engines has been atrocious for the last say, 70 years.
I’d like to see a new Vrod ☺️
A sport touring bike would be a great addition. I like the BMW 1250 RT but of course not the cost of their maintenance.
I think it would be an easy jump from the Pan America
@@RidingintheOzarks I'm not into the ADV touring. I ride about 20K back road miles a year. "Sporty" touring and seeing new places is my thing. The Pan America could be a replacement for my current ride. A "sport touring" focused bike with that engine... that's what would, no doubt, get my money.
This is so much better than the awful antiques that HD have been churning out for the last 50 years.
Yet HD is most popular Brand in the US... just cause it isn't what you want doesn't make it awful...I am all for HD offering more and different Motorcycles. Are Honda VTX motors antique and awful too?
@@RidingintheOzarks I agree, they are much more suited to the USA than here in the UK. Just seems so odd to me to use pushrods and air cooling.
Also I've had nothing but water cooled bikes except for one and I have never had a problem.
Great engine... high performance, low maintenance that hopefully will prove to be very reliable. They are off to a good start with new innovation in the PA, with HD's new management and vision here's hoping they really branch out and offer more new models to compete in several categories.
Totally agree
Harley made a sporty looking cafe many years ago. If they tried again with this Revo stressed member concept they might be on to something that appeals to another set of riders that want a bike that is both heritage and handling with a great retro look and sound.
If this is the motor for the next gen sportsters, it’ll be interesting to see them rocking over double the HP of the current gen.
Yeah might be a little scary, I did Rebel 1100 Test ride today and in Sport Mode it will scoot! it is pulling about 86 HP on 510 pound motorcycle.
Hammer has a maxed out build of the evo Sportster making about 130 WHP. This could easily start at 150 engine HP. Ok somebody is going to complain about the sound but that power will sell bikes.
Just ride a vrod lol
The V Rod is gone. Emissions I think
@@vernlochtefeld1626 this is the engine from the vrod, anything they did to make it emissions compliant they could have done to the vrod. Sad day, I would have loved to see the vrod stay and them still expand the lineup into models like this
I would definitely be interested in this engine in a slightly smaller, lighter Heritage Softail.
Yes, I think PanAmerica will be reasonably successful because is offers a fantasy lifestyle variation along with the motorcycle itself.
I think it will fail,
1st.
They could use this engine for a light weight touring bike it has lots of potential
Definitely.
Please release the Bronx!!! I need that bike.
Time will tell, I ma listening for any new info but nothing yet...
I’ve been waiting for Harley to catch up with the rest of the market. I might just consider a Harley now.
Go ride a demo and see what you think!
Basically all motorcycle engines have a plated cylinder of some sort been that way for quite a while.
I think having Water Cooled and Air Cooled is definitely way to go, I think an Air Cooled with VVT will be coming in the next few years...

Thanks! I rode the PA and I have rode a BMW R1200 GS and found the PA more comfortable to. Glad you enjoyed the video
Excessive oil consumption, sumping, etc...
it would be a nightmare doing a full rebuild if it blew time to sell fam😭😳
Hopefully it turns out to be very reliable!
@@RidingintheOzarks yeah hopefully those mechanics are definitly gonna have to be trained for all those extra components

Thanks Steve, I appreciate the support!
All good info and I applaud Harley for taking this initiative and hope they have nothing but success but I have a few obvious questions from the cheap seats not mentioned in your video:
1) Who was the brain trust behind the engine design?
I heard Porsche worked on the vrod engine
Imagine where HD would be now in the adventure bike market had they not axed the Buell XB12X.
I hope they sell a million of them.

Or maybe someday Harley does a SE suspension package that is what their motorcycles deserve.

what is the saddle temptrature on a 95 degree day?
In the sun. A million.
A million is also how much money you need to buy a Harley
Great video!
Make it a Sportster motor. Classic Sportster styling, staggered tapered mufflers. My favorite. And for god's sake, Harley should offer muffler "options", instead of me buying a bike with mufflers I hate, then replacing the mufflers for $1000.
Ahh, that muffler stuff is federal. It is hard to please them. Mufflers are really large now.
@@iruleyounow Oh I am sure someone will fab a one off custom with this engine. Check out the short clip I just released to get an idea of acceleration...
Thanks Mike - I learn a lot from your videos!
Hell I learn a lot making them 😀 Thanks for watching!
So this is the motor in the Pan American 150 hp at the crank.Same motor that is in the new 2021 Sportster release de tuned to 121 hp so with a motor that is that adjustable it could be a touring power plant. Zeits is proving himself as a true CEO Putting the aftermarket crate motor companies on the ropes, securing the MoCo as an industry leader pleasing both riders and shareholders. Well played
I'm very happy for Harley.
I hope you don't have to wait much longer!
No huge heavy chain driven primary
No chain drive primary helps weight and shortens length of engine
I would like to see the Bronx with the full power 1250 with 150hp. A true naked sport bike. Keep the electronic controls of the PA out. Just deliver a balls out naked sport machine at a reasonable price. Somewhere in the next two years a sport touring model (150 hp) designed to look some what along the lines of the Buell S3T Thunderbolt. I would be first in line at my dealer for one.
They should change that hedius headlight too.
Like the VVT engine they patented a few years ago?
@@RidingintheOzarks I'm not aware of that engine but I'd love to take a look, that sounds awesome if you ask me!
I like this motor but the air cooled ones do look a bit cooler due to their heritage. In the future this engine is the only thing that will keep the motor company alive though.
