The Indian dealership where I bought my Scout gave me all kinds of swag (including a shirt), played my song of choice over the speakers, and revved a few motorcycles in the showroom while I rang a bell. It was pretty awesome. He completely failed to mention the Indian Motorcycle Riders Group (Indian's version of HOG). Lastly, I don't know where he bought his motorcycles or compared prices but my Scout was a better value than anything comparable that Harley had. I'm pretty sure he just did this video to get views and comments. Well, it worked.

I’m a Harley tech for over 20 years now and trust me when I tell you Harley has major design flaws. Harleys major design flaw is the single pin crank that is pressed together and is prone to failure by the flywheels twisting or pinching on the rods. I have studied the Indian 111 now a 116 and the water cooled challenger and they are way better engineered! All that being said please don’t stop buying Harleys because I need a job and Harleys breaking down keeping me employed! If all I had to work on were Indians I wouldn’t have a job because they are super reliable and I’d just be sitting around like the Maytag man.

An an Indian owner, I came with the mindset that we all have to laugh at ourselves once in a while. I get the spirit of the video but I couldn't help but notice a lot of these talking points are not accurate. The Chief is solo but the cruiser class also has the Vintage which is equipped for a pillion. The Challenger starts at $21,999 whereas the top-of-the-line Limited and Dark Horse models start at $27,999. This is similar between HD's standard and Special models. The Challenger has a 108 and not a 106. Despite it having the smallest engine of the big Indians, it is unquestionably the most powerful. Just a little more time on the Googles would have paid dividends here.

"Harley set the standard." So did Ford but much better brands followed. Harley's issues created the Japanese motorcycle industry. I rode a Yamaha 1100 in the 70's and 80's while my friends all rode Harleys. I spent so many hours sunning myself on the side of a highway watching them trying to get their bikes to run or trying to find the part that fell off. Just about every Harley "innovation" came about 10 years after it was on a Japanese or European bike, so they have no right to get condescending. Harleys are the beautiful blonde you marry that can't cook, clean, work or f__k.

If bikes never broke down, there would be
no need for bike mechanics. Bikes would
be disposable n no improvements would be
developed. That's why there are tons of
aftermarket parts available for Harley's. They
can be improved, and made to go faster, if that's your thing. The ground is just as hard at

As an actual Indian owner I was actually interested to see this video, but so much is really wrong in this video that it wasn’t even an interesting watch. And that has nothing to do with indian or Harley, just not even getting facts right or conveniently leaving out facts. Like not even mentioning that the challenger is water cooled, only focusing on the displacement. Or forgetting that indian has offered “cruiser” options but people opt to buy the ones with the bags(since it’s the same bike underneath and you can take the bags off and have you’re cruiser whenever you want) so they’ve stopped offering the stripped down versions(though yea they do need a more middle weight option). And forgetting that the vintage darkhorse was just a Chief darkhorse last year, so now you get the bags with it, instead focused on what you don’t get from a different model(the vintage started as just a Chief with a couple extras added, vintage darkhorse did the same thing). Also specifically knocking the vintage darkhorse for not having passenger seat(while showing one with a passenger seat) even though the Harley deluxe doesn’t come with a passenger seat nor does the electraglide standard(both of which are also “only” a 107 for barely less than the vintage darkhorse). And to even start with Indians prices while never mentioning harleys CVO is just ridiculous(and if you’re comparing top trims that would be the comparison, you even say fanciest version then don’t use the fanciest version because it would make Harley look stupid). And again never mentioning that the challengers 106(which is actually a 108 not 106 as stated here) is a water cooled engine just comparing displacement. And not mentioning that the reason Harley aftermarket is so large and you can build a sportster at home is because their bikes haven’t really changed in decades. That’s not really a good thing. Plus the challenger has barely been out a year, of course there’s not going to be much aftermarket for it. And from experience riding with harleys, nobody mistakes my indian for a Harley and every ride people ignore the harleys and praise the indian. If anything every Harley looks exactly alike so nobody cares anymore. Can’t even remember the last time I saw a Harley that wasn’t white or black out on the road. I like both brands and enjoy the banter between them, but this video just didn’t do either side justice really. To me just made Harley owners look worse. Trying to trump harley up by leaving out facts from both sides and misleading/wrong information. Most of this is just conjecture and bias. If you’re going to make a video like this at least make it worth it. Again, I enjoy the banter from both sides of it, so this isn’t just an Indian owner being biased(unlike this video clearly being a Harley owner being biased). Just get all the facts and get them right before just picking and choosing what makes Harley sound better. Then go ahead and make a video about indian sucking. If you do it right I’ll enjoy it even with being an Indian owner. But this wasn’t enjoyable.

The engine gave out at 100,000 miles. My son put a new engine in for me. I took a demo ride on a 2014 Indian Chieftain and loved the ride & power. I gave the Harley to my son and bought the Chieftain and have added the 2 stage exhaust, air cleaner and cams. It is the best riding bike I have ever ridden and the power is hot. I had my Harley up to 100 mph and seen other Harley’s at similar speed and it looks very scary and feels scary feeling the suspension getting a speed wobble. I have had my Indian up to 140 mph and it feels & rides stable and smooth. I am 78 years old tomorrow and still riding.

Pathetic. I’ve tested every single Indian and Victory in production as a former employee of Polaris. (I’m now an RN) I’ve tested many Harleys for direct comparison as well model for model. Not demo days, not hours, not days but months of test riding. Since 2014 HD been changing their depends trying to figure out how to keep up. Features, overall dependability, comfort, performance, bang for the buck are all there on the Indian showroom floor. If you’re going to shill for HD then just say it. I’m open about being an Indian guy as overall Indian makes a better motorcycle. Yeah Indian may not TOTALLY have the name and expansive apparel selection of HD, but the bikes speak for themselves. I used to be more diplomatic about this but I’m not in the industry anymore. My greatest enjoyment during my time in the business was when a Harley rider would trade in his Harley for an Indian. I don’t give a damn about a name. I approach it from a scientific perspective. If you want an overpriced name, underperforming bike by all means go Harley. If you want better performance, better balance and better price go indian.

Once they kill the Victory brand I trade both Victorys for two Harleys. Never again buying a Polaris product. Wait until they kill the Indian brand. Polaris just bought the Indian name/brand. The bikes are not really Indian Motorcycle like the original brand that die in 1953. They just make the engine to look like the original Indian bikes. No warranty they will not kill the brand. Harley-Davidson has been Harley-Davidson since 1903. You get an HD and pay high dollar because of the name and legendary tradition. Is as American as Apple pie. If I want cheap and reliable I will get me a Jap bike but it will never have the appeal of the HD brand.

    7. H-D’s cruiser/softail line up is 11 versions of the same bike. Second, Challenger has a 108, not a 106, and it is water cooled which is why it is smaller. Puts out more power than H-D’s largest stock motor (117)(yes I’ve ridden both)
    6. It actually starts at $23K. The road glide will scrape earlier than the Challenger. H-D does not include the electronics, but will gladly sell them to you for $2K. Challenger has higher wattage sound system with more clarity. There’s no way you did any research before this edgy nonsensical video.
    5. Bought or sold, a brand is a brand. H-D would have died twice if no one took pity on them.
    4. H-D Storefront and buying experience truly is pretty sweet. But then again, they sell “incomplete” bikes, so they need to soften up customers to make sure they come back and buy those accessories and better handlebars.
    3. Literally no other manufacturer has (or needs) the aftermarket/factory part support of a Harley. Again, it’s because they always leave “something missing” on every model.
    2. This argument gets old and is baseless. Cue list of bike manufacturers that don’t have immediate dealer support in every city in every state (sorry moto guzzi).
    1. My niece thinks every sports car is a Lamborghini and every sports bike is a gixxer. What’s your point. 99 percent of unbiased riders taking a blind test of both brands will pick the Indian after their spine bottoms out, they don’t find the adjustable windshield switch, don’t find the saddlebag lock button, and have to go back to the H-D dealer because they didn’t pay for the Apple CarPlay “module”.

Mind you, my buddy that had the Chief. He bought dyna glide this year and he loves it. Everyone likes something different and that's freaking awesome, lets stop talking shit about each others bike and ride like hell.

It was not Springfield IL it was Springfield MA, so maybe read a few books before doing a video. Isle of man win was a big thing at the time, as Canon Ball Baker did something remarkable. When he rode across country there was NO gas stations. You bought gasoline from the local market in Mason jars. There were no highways and the few paved roads ended in towns the rest were dirt. In some cases the only way across a river was highering a boat to get across. He was a remarkable man. But to your point I did ride a new Indian and hated yes HATED how it sat. Long time Harley guy and at 6'4" I am way to tall for Indian. I felt like I was on a gynecological table. And you're correct Indian after market is non existent as is the dealer network. If you want a harkey clone buy a metric. Plus they don't make 3 wheelers, getting back to your point of selection, which since my foot was crushed in the Marine corps it makes 2 wheels a scary propersition.

Street Glide is a fork mounted fairing. The Road Glide is the fixed fairing. The Challenger has more hp, torque, better, more intuitive infotainment that is more closely mounted to the rider, more travel, better handling, braking, acceleration.... the list goes on and on. Harley started in 1903. That is 2 years after Indian/Hendee; not 3. Indians' dealership experience was far more elaborate than my experience at H-D. Harley acted like I was lucky to have been there. Ignored for 40 minutes. Bought the Indian. Got a t-shirt with both purchases, plus plenty of other swag. The ownership group offers discount and is worldwide. Granted they don't have as many aftermarket parts. They are newer to the market. The 106 is only a couple of years old. But they already look better from the factory so you don't have to paint them up with goofy chrome bullshit. It is already there. You were leaking coolant because you were on a Harley. That is just a fact. Deal with it. Then Go tug your balls, you dusty fart. Your H-D disappears when an Indian shows up. If you think your H-D looks better, You're dreaming, Mate. Trust me. My Indian Chief Classic made a H-D Deluxe look like it was drawn by a deranged child. My Chieftain Limited was just voted best looking bike at a 100 motorcycle charity ride where every other bike lest one was a Harley. Harley being better looking is Subjective? I believe the word you were looking for was delusional.

Modern Harley culture itself pisses me off. They built their legacy on being the rebel, it's how they've always portrayed themselves. Walk into a Harley store these days. It's like being in a fucking Walmart. You can walk in and get your pre patched, over priced vest that was made in China. Then your 20 dollar Harley shot glass. How about a pair of jeans that cost an extra 60 bucks because there's a Harley logo on them that by covered by your belt. Then you can close out your magical journey by snagging one of those cool poker chips. They're not free any more though, 10 bucks a pop. And don't forget the 20 dollar cardboard map so you can show all your other weekend warrior Harley buddies that you went to the Harley store in "name a city". It's a stupid subculture more worried about polishing chrome and showing off their second mortgage midlife crisis than they are about actually riding. And the sad thing is there are plenty of metric cruisers that cost so much less and are better Harleys than Harleys

Not to mention the FTR which looks cool as hell and doesn't really have a rival on Harley's end.

    • @packgrog
      @packgrog 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Yeah, many of the points seem either valid (dealer network and part availability) or kinda weak, but the aesthetics point is bullshit and completely subjective. I own a Sportster, I like my Sportster, but *NOTHING* in the Harley catalog looks anywhere near as good as the Polaris Indian line. The Challenger has some odd visual elements that look too modern for a more retro styled line, but holy crap do the rest of their bikes look fantastic. They're just better looking machines, IMO. And FFS, nobody buys an Indian if they're yearning for a Harley. They cost roughly the same. You buy an Indian if you like a Harley-like bike but aren't as sold on the styling or find the whole Harley culture off-putting. Used Harleys are way cheaper. You have to buy near-new for the Indians, so if you're actually buying one, it's sure as hell not from Harley jealousy.

Only the Dark horse Vintage (both the regular Dark Horse (Chief) and regular Vintage have been discontinued), Springfield classic, and Roadmaster Classic, still have that look. Roadmaster is next to be dropped for sure, now they introduced the new style Harley Wannabe Roadmaster.

I agree. To me different Harley models just seem to be different combinations of parts on essentially just 2 basic bikes. Traditional with a conventional pair of shocks and soft tails where an attempt is made to emulate a hard tail with a suspended rear frame section. Then it's like full or minimal blade type front fender. Mags or conventional spoked wheels., handle bars. Honestly though, when i look at the bikes; Harley's all look alike to me and it's far from a look on equal with the old hard tail classic knuckle head.

When i sold Indians, the number one motorcycle traded in was HD. I got very familiar with the ride of all their models and various trims. As well, the customers weren’t shy about telling me how great the buying experience was with us versus at the HD dealer, and I was only treating customers the right way so I wasn’t sure how that could be screwed up. Finally, i NEVER had anyone tell me how much more expensive our bikes were against HD models. IF that’s true THEN they only didn’t say anything because the quality was worth it.
If anyone ever said, “nice Harley” about my bike I didn’t fly into a rage because my fragile ego couldn’t handle it. I’d just smile and educate them about a great uniquely styled bike that I thoroughly enjoyed riding. For Indian riders it’s about enjoying the ride and every HD rider I sold an Indian to felt the same way.

I've ridden both road glide and challenger..I personally like the challenger, sport mode option, beautiful sound, and better tech including speakers and map nav, plus a better price

@@alkeron598 I rode both and I prefer the HD. Better ergonomics, better handling, more torque off the line, better sound and nav system plus feels more premium. Indian dealer support is terrible. I live in the largest metropolitan area in the world and only one Indian dealer in the entire area. I know many that have bought from the one dealer and god forbid you need work done you have to leave your bike with them for two to three weeks.

If it wasn't for Ronald Reagan, Harley would be bankrupt by now.

And if it wasn't for Trump, I'd be a Harley owner. Won't forget Milwaukee HD cancelling Trump's visit as they surrendered to the woke mob threatening protests; Wrote HD off and went Indian.

I was a HD guy. Since I bought my Chieftain, I will NEVER buy another Harley. I’ve owned 3 of them. Indian is simply a better machine.

8:19 How did you take your MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) at a Harley dealer? You mean you took your MSC (Motorcycle Safety Course,) which is ran by the MSF, at a Harley dealer? Or to be more specific, you took your BRC (Basic Rider Course) with the MSF (organization.)

If you are going to review a company you should at least have one clip of you riding their products. I dont have a whole lot of experience with a ton of motorcycles but if I had the platform that you do I would make a way better effort to actually review the bikes you are trash talking and not just make vague accusations about the brand as a whole.

When I bought my Harley they gave my wife a leather riding jacket. That was a nice touch because she was pretty upset that I bought the bike.

F9 actually just had a good video going in depth about why the scout makes so much more power than the sporster, and its a noticeable difference, I've owned both

He he. I'm still buying a new Yamaha in the spring. I've had my share of Harley headaches. No matter how much you polish a turd, it's still a turd.

Strange. When I bought a new Harley I did get a short tour of the dealership, but no book like you describe. I only got a sales pitch to illegally remove my catalytic converter, replace the exhaust, add an enhanced intake and tuner to richen the mixture...all against EPA regs.
