For me, 20lbs heavier & 4" taller than you, it was not a bike that required a lot of wrestling or muscle to extract the most out of it, and it responded well to minor rider inputs. Wow, I'm really impressed Yammie. I didn't know you had real skills. Just thought you were one of those TH-camrs that do all talk and can't do the walk. Great job on the track on this legend machine.
It's like riding an early monster or SS half the fun is the sound of the bike the other half is that as fast as some of the bigger ones could be it was all on you no modes or wheelie control or even ABS ,you whisky throttle it at the wrong time and you'll pay with a trip to the emergency room .It actually takes some skill to go fast which riders gained the long way through riding or the hard way by crashing .Which is why you'll find a lot of old Duc's have been down once usually not to hard if the owner is still selling it but a lot have hit the pavement to encourage a sale . I have to admit though the sound of an air cooled Ducati engine with good exhaust cans on a Mt road at full chat is one of the sweetest sounds you'll ever hear except maybe downshifting the same engine even though I can probably actually go faster down the same road on my newer Duc it's just not quite the same experience . Or maybe I'm just old and you kids should just keep heading toward sterile but extremely fast Elec motorcycles since bikes are such horrible polluters and get such terrible mileage even the old ones .
My '78 900ss returned 60 miles to the Imp. gal at highway speeds, and never dropped below 50 when flogged, except on track days - 35. Is that bad mileage?
I love how every time he has a track he starts out with his warmup lap and is way better than I could ride at this point in my career lol I want to do a track day sometime next season and really see how much fun it is to do some real riding in an appropriate setting. Love the videos and the whole team GO YAMSTERS!!!😂
You won't really learn how to ride a motorcycle with more than 20-30hp until you start doing track days every couple of weeks during the season, and even then, it takes the average rider about 4 years to get really good, but it's one hell of a lot of fun, and you'll meet some life-long friends.
Yammie, you keep making me want to find a way to design the bike that's a concept that's been going laps in my head for a couple years! I don't know how to design the engine though!!!
I’ve owned my 1098 S for almost 9 years. It was one of those bikes that I said “I will own one someday.” I also went from a 2008 Aprilia RSV1000R which is a fat pig compared to the 1098. Never had a chance to track her yet, it’s been years since I’ve been on the track but riding a bike like that and then jumping on my friends 959 panigale was like night and Day. It made me feel like I was a pro at riding bikes lol. The panigale seemed nothing in comparison to the 1098. My bike was set up for racing so I believe it has a racing ECU tuned to 152 hp st elevation (I live 5k ft above sea level) So when I brought it down to sea level felt like a whole new monster.
RAW is a great description. The power and the torque is like a drug. I’ve got 33K on mine and it still runs like a scalded dog. I’m going to keep riding it it until it blows.
I would love to take my 2009 Aprilia RSV1000R Factory to the track here in northern California but I can't afford to right now. Having NEVER been on a track day I'm sure I would have my hands full due to the lack of electronics. It's just like the 1098 in terms of being analog and that's why I bought it when I did 7 years ago. I didn't (and still don't) want any on-board helpers; I want to feel everything. 140-ish hp and 80-ish lbs/ft of torque would probably give a newbie track rider, like me, their money's worth. I can't wait til I can get out there and try it. Kool video!
Aaaaah the end of Ducati's glory days. After that generation until the early 10's nothing would ever be the same. That's why I bought a Monster 1100 Evo (very different bike I know but I'm a street rider and use my bike to commute too). Such a fantastic bike on every level and one of the last dream Ducatis for me. More recent ones just don't do the same thing for me and once the emission restrictions reach the year of production of my model here in France and I won't be allowed to use it on the city daily I'll be very sad. I really don't know what my next bike will be to be honest...
It's so strange to hear someone say that 'grabbing your own gears' is weird, to me as a rider of 25+ years, this is what a 'normal' bike is like. It's supposed to be a bit challenging, because it's about the experience, not the all out speed. All the electronic gizmos only make sense if you are chasing lap times, but they take away from the fun.
Whitney tells us she protects her future brains 🧠. Papa Yam 🍠 now needs to rinse his out of his track day leathers. Thanks for sharing another great video. So fun to watch.
I love, it's not stock, it's not a ride around town machine. It likes open road and tracks. From memory I believe it's been jumped up to 177 hp 102 torque, I could wrong it's been awhile since I last looked at the don't sheet. I always hated the mirrors, now after seeing it they design makes sense. Still they are absolutely unless.
Ducait in the old days: Our bikes might try to kill our customers ... well, that is true love. Modern Ducati: oh we might get in trouble with legal. Let's give our riders ABS, traction control, blipper shifting etc and a big computer so they can handle the 200ps. ;-) Ducati 998s owner here. That thing constantly tried to kill me coming from a ZX-7R. But nothing compares. Nothing. The looks, the feeling, the feedback the sound.
Bikes without electronics are a real handful. Modern bikes can explore the real limitations of a bike if you have the skills to do so. You can make more mistakes with modern bikes with stability control imu. Actually the electronics are so great that the limits of physics come down to just 2 tires vs 4 tires of a car.
@@adolfshitler cheers, honestly so far I find it pretty placid as long as I'm not yanking the throttle. I'm aware of how much power it's packing though.

So it would be interesting to see you test it out. Great content, following you for a very long time and always happy to see new vids 👏🏼

Shoulda had spite behind you on the turbo Busa w a camera man would’ve been the best sneak peak
I don’t think spite is a track guy, I think he’s more of an off road/adv guy
I love my pasta rocket. Most beautiful bike ever made
Had my 1098 for 10 years still love it
Yammie, you keep making me want to find a way to design the bike that's a concept that's been going laps in my head for a couple years!
Did Whitney hear you call the 1098 a "man's bike?" 🤣😂
thx for the memories i rode one in 2008 when they came out and its one of those bikes that burns into the mind :D
Haven't riden a 1098, I can say my 848 is a dream to ride.
Had my 1098s when first released love the ride. B4 that 748. 748 was hard work but also fun to ride. All depends what purpose u want the bike for.
Kool video!
15:30 that dude is literally fucking horizontal on those corners holy shit, he must see the banana in the mirror and not wanna get caught
V2 vs 1098 Video?!? That would be a great comparison video!
Whitney tells us she protects her future brains 🧠. Papa Yam 🍠 now needs to rinse his out of his track day leathers. Thanks for sharing another great video. So fun to watch.
Fastest I've ever been to Yammie Noob's vids........Glad to learn something new about mean machines on 2 wheels !!!
This video hurt me, it made me _feel_ how much I miss the track. Especially on something that visceral, that emotional, You have won my envy sir.
Let's give our riders ABS, traction control, blipper shifting etc and a big computer so they can handle the 200ps. ;-)
Ducati 998s owner here. That thing constantly tried to kill me coming from a ZX-7R. But nothing compares. Nothing. The looks, the feeling, the feedback the sound.
I appreciate this Video a lot!!!
It was a big reason for me to buy a 1198!!!
Great content man!! 🙏🙌
I guess this is a *REAL BIKE*
I'd like to see more track day footage in general, it's really awesome.
2009 & 10 Haga rode for the Ducati Xerox Team aboard the 1098r. Finished 2nd & 6th in those years, not too shabby.
That's the best Ducati ever made
Poppa Yam is a man of culture. I see that dith grips hoodie
Idk that ive ever paid this much attention to one of your vids man lol
The amount of different amazing bikes you get to ride has me so jealous man lol
Great review, it was a really nice day at ECR that day. That 1098 looks even better in person and on track than I would have thought. Cheers
Yammie listens to death grips. It goes it goes it goes it goes.
I bought it and the first ride was amazing. I didnt believe what was going on.
Now this the yammie content we all have been waiting for, im making my friends subscribe
"... with 150 hp and no traction control !!! " would have earned you a lot of sideways looks (of confusion) 20 years ago lol
\m/
@@adolfshitler and the first gen zx 14 hasn't even got ABS, I've got one but just need the unrestricted license for it!
@@adolfshitler cheers, honestly so far I find it pretty placid as long as I'm not yanking the throttle. I'm aware of how much power it's packing though.
Great video of a great bike! Your throttle control is wonderful, so light.. holding an egg! (California Superbike School) A million subs here we go!
My last dedicated "track" bike was a 2008 ZX-10R that was just a beast. So privative by todays standards. So fast...
Liked for the earth crisis hoodie. Edit: nvm, that doesn’t say earth crisis.
Edit: still liked. Loved all the raw footage.
I prefer the 848 over the 1098 especially for the backroads
A Sunday video from yammie freaking awesome.
me: *stumbles across this channel* "Ohh, I could win that? Not normally a sport-bike guy, but..."
*watches the video*
"I would DIE on this thing."
love mine its uncomfortable af but the low end of the bike is bizarrely fast. Sounds great with akrapovic exhaust. Ask my neighborhood they'll agree.
The sound of that bike is amazing
Okay I put this on full screen and I don’t need to buy a superbike because it’s just so well shot I felt I was cornering with you. Whew I am worn out just watching it!
'That RSV into the corner is cooking too hot' Man that had me laughing
The 1098 only needs two mods: gp shifting and a 14 tooth front sprocket. Super easy bike to ride.
2005 2013 superbikes were as you described this bike, they are always trying to kill you!
That's why I own an old bike
Yeah! I’ve never been so tired after a trackday like I did on the 1098…jump right back on the r3 that at least it’s not trying to kill me every time I exit a corner lol
You can tell how much work he is putting on riding it by his voice
EDIT: dang it he says it outright
apparently the 1098r versions for wsbk had traction control
It's an oldie but a goodie! Nice riding!
I would have one just for the sound! (Chef's kiss!)
@YammieNoob please do something about DUCATI STREETFIGHTER 848 2014, it’s a wonderful thing also, just bought it this autumn and didn’t have a chance to try it on track. And what’s interesting it’s the same dynamics as on 848 evo, seating position very aggressive in that case, it’s like a sports bike, but wothout plastics, crazy thing to ride also, kind of raw, it has DTC, but if you turn off that thing.. So it would be interesting to see you test it out. Great content, following you for a very long time and always happy to see new vids 👏🏼
Just bought a 2011 1198SP and immediately stripped off all street parts, added race bodywork and had suspension dialed in. Gonna be a track bike only for 2024 - what the hell am i getting myself into?!
Do you have a video on what a track day entails or what it looks like price wise? I would love to learn more about what a track day like that is like and hopefully get on something I could take out to one! Love the videos man!
there are YT videos on what track days are like. They can run anywhere from about $150 - $300 for a track day when using your own bike. (triple that if you have to rent a bike for the track day)
