Absolutely love listening to knowledgeable people. That guy has probably forgotten more about Ducati than we ever knew, an absolute fountain of riveting info👌
Absolutely chuffed for ye, Rich and his mate are top class bike mechanics, fair play to the guy who had it in the shed for 17 years, he deserves a pat on the back as well.
Easily one of my favorite BVG/44 teeth videos already. Ive been working on my 998 for years now, so I know enough to follow Rich's comments. I also know enough to recognize that he is a real Ducati mechanic and i am a hack. The engine start up was excellent. The startup after a major repair is a great feeling. I cant wait for the first ride Chris. Im sure you will enjoy it.
Love this series on the 916 . 90s bikes have so much more character than the boring modern bikes which ride themselves. We should all go back to riding them instead. Great series thanks
I ride a 1997 VTR 1000 Firestorm, and i wholeheartedly agree. A big old analog bike is so much more fun than the modern alien spaceships without any soul...
It's funny you say that I was just thinking the same that people should stop buying new bikes out of protest to tec, I vave a few. Ikes and want to sell half and been thinking of selling my new bikes and keeping g the older ones with very little and no tec, I'm have come to realise the tec gets in the way of enjoying the bike and if your a good rider you don't need it and the way I like to ride is wheelies and rolling burnouts ect😮
@bergerniklas6647 I have a zx14 and it's my favourite bike over several more in the stable because of its minimal tec, you start it and go it does every thing g I like 👍
That guy is awesome ... clearly knows his stuff and his attention to detail is superb. Makes me want to buy a Ducati just so I could get him to work on it.
Best video to ever come out of your camp. I think we all agree that the 916 is a dream bike. What many of us drooled over for years and years. I LOVED this video Baron! And thx for not letting this channel die. Love 44Teeth!
Rich is a hero, he helped me out with a look over my 1098 at a trackday at Castle Combe a few months back and he's so flippin' nice and mega helpful. What he doesn't know, is not worth knowing
As an ex 996 SPS owner, this was absolute gold!!! That mechanic of yours is a treasure trove of ducati lore. That engine startup brought tears to my eyes
It says Cusworth Bikes on the plate, which immediately perked my interest even more. This dealer was based in Doncaster and flattened in 2008/09, being replaced by a furniture store and later a car park to aid the nearby job center and disability centre. I'd say take the bike to its origins and park it where it once stood on the showroom, but knowing the area it might get stolen.
Got some funny looks from the misses as I was grinning away when she fired into life, awesome. Could watch and listen to Rich talk and work for hours, just amazing
Absolutely loved this from start to finish. Rich is an absolute gem, such a deep, deep knowledge of Ducati's. He has a touch of the Dibnah about him. He should have his own channel.
Had a Datatool 50 on a bike for 31years, no false alarms even in heavy wind, stopped it being stolen twice before it was garaged, still works fine, great piece of kit...
Damn. Old school Ducati is thing of beauty. That trellis frame looks way better than modern ones. BTW that's probably the most poetic presentation of mechanics I've ever seen.
Why do I get the impression that the whole of Britain is filled to the brim with knowledgeable talkative motorcycleshop owners? What a joy to hear this man share his passion for these bikes. Great vid!
Brilliant! Rich even spotted the none standerd bolt,Attention to detail was top drawer.Graet to see. And the bike is a cracker I still have my old posters of 916 sps in folders in the loft. Im going to fish them out now :)
You accidentally made an educational video! Really enjoyed the old school mechanics. Reminds me of when I was a kid and the bike shops were owned by ex racers and mechanics and seemed to know everything
Got nothing but good things to say about Rich and Lougi Moto! Absolutely lovely bloke who really takes his time and does a proper, thorough job, is happy to help if you need it and has completely earned his outstanding reputation! What this man doesn't know about Ducati's isn't worth knowing.
23:10 Pah ha ha! “If you’re doing the belts at home…!” Yeah right! Top work Baron, this was a really nice relaxing video. This guys knows his patients inside out, really super to watch. Top narration for us lamens as always. A perfect soothing Sunday night treat to enjoy with some leftover party snacks and a glass of flat Dr Pepper. Love it.
Best Baron vid for yonks. Lovely to see a prime chunk of Bologna fettled back to life. Great to showcase the Louigi Moto Team as well. Thank you muchly👍
This show was excellent, what a treat to hear from a legend like this chap. Chris thank you thank you for this video. Would be so awesome to have content like this more often. Best creator of bike content.. well done Chris.
Brilliant video, such a wealth of knowledge from Rich at Luigi Moto. Thanks for the tips as well. I might attempt a belt change as my 848 is due in approx 2k miles. So pleased for you Chris, she’s a beauty. Keep us updated on the progress with the rest of the re commissioning. Love these kind of videos. 👏👏👏
Love videos like these. Priceless info and character. As you get older , you have to cherish the older gents while they’re still around. I have an old 900 SS and watch as much as I can of all these older Duc heads. Dreaming of putting a 888 /916 next to to it. Thanks for the awesome vid
Fascinated by this, I’m picking up my first Ducati next week, a Supersport 950S which has similar performance stats to the 916 which when it came out and I saw as the pinnacle of superbikeness, utterly gorgeous and esoteric, it’s taken until I’m 65 to buy into the Ducati mystique but better late than never. Following the restoration with great interest.
Well, this simply been joyous. At the moment, I am recovering from a stroke, (lived) and have been for a while. I live for TH-cam,and derive great momentum from your success!
Always so satisfying to hear a bike come back to life after a long ‘slumber’ and she sounds fantastic….. methinks you’ve got yourself a great buy there 👍👍
Nice to see a proper down earth person on TH-cam regards the mechanic and sure everyone who watched this had a massive smile when the bike roared into life .... nice one .
Craftsmanship! I love listening to a master mechanic with years of experience with specific generation of engine technology, just talk. The knowledge from experience is fantastic. Tip of the hat to the master mechanic!
This is movie gold!! Brilliant subject, top Ducati master, propably the best bike ever, and not to sloppy on the editing!! Well done Chris! Very well done!!
I haven't lived in the West Country (or the UK) in 30 years so it was nice to hear a good West Country accent again. Also, it's always a treat to listen to someone who knows their subject inside and out and is still clearly passionate about it. Great video, thanks.
Wow, how good is that!!! You wouldn't want anyone else touching your bike after Rich and his team have been at it. So good to listen to such informative, genuine people. Well done. I'd DEFINITELY put new tyres on - you don't want to risk that beauty on old rubber. Cheers.
I have a 2002 748R that hasn't been started in 15 years, this has inspired me to get it sorted. It looks like Louigi Moto might be the best place to go.
Not sure where I heard this but, I became aware of a cold start-up technique that makes sense for all these early bikes. This is what I do to avoid premature wear in any of the valve train parts. First off use a good synthetic oil as it seems to cling to parts way longer than dino oil. THEN....when starting a cold bike, you start the engine with the lowest revs possible, just a slow idle. Don't rev it up at this point. THEN let the bike idle for at least 90 seconds to let the oil flow up into those valve/cam/rocker arm parts. I've used this starting method on my 916 ST4 for almost 30k miles. I've done my own valve checks and finally an adjustment at 25k miles when one of the valves was getting close to out of adjustment, but was still within specs. The chrome on my rocker arms was near perfect. Cam lobes excellent.
What a cracking video! We're all on the edge of our seats waiting to find out of you'd brought a right old dog, or potentially a wet dream of a machine! Top man in the flat cap...brilliant!!👍👍
Another amazing shop video! All of your shop vids are personal fav's. I can't wait to see James at JHS's reaction to this bike, and what he can do with the suspension/chassis to make it perfect. I believe he said he had built a few of these bikes back in the day. You're lucky to have shops like these guys and JHS in the UK. We don't have many in Canada, and the ones we do have, that are fair, knowledgeable and do amazing work, and usually British Expats.
Rich is awesome when it comes to fettling with all manner of Ducatis, he is also a top instructor on track and very popular with many of our customers.
Not that I'd ever own a bike like that, but it's quite nice to gather all the knowledge available especially when you live for 2 wheels. Thanks men, cheers!
Amazing video, it is a pleasure to watch this very interesting, entertaining and educational video about your 916 SPS. I rode a few Ducati's the past years, started in 1995 on a 900SS than a 748 - 748 SPS - Monster S4 - Monster S4Rs and actually driving a Multistrada 1200S. When I look at the video, I get a bit nostalgic and remember the days that I drove the 748's. How knows, maybe I'll find such a barn find as you. Enjoy your ride, take care and be cautious when you're on the road.
Amazing! Properly made me smile watching this and it’s not even my bike!! I could listen/watch Rich work on these bikes all day - such incredible knowledge…👌🔧👌🔧
Super video and fantastic, skilled and knowledgeable mechanics giving you such really sound advice. Getting the SPS's heart beating again, was an absolutely joy. Onwards and upwards from here!
just joined the Ducati fam with a 979 first road bike for 40 years and totally love it.! Thinking about buying a multistrada. Only Ducati for me now! loved the vid!
I used to think Ducati's and Italian wiring was just a joke, until I bought a new 749 and it broke down after 400 miles! Luckily I had AA cover with the bike. The guy that came out knew what it was straight away (starter/fuel relay I think). I got another replacement and rode with it under the seat, just in case. Loving this video, great to hear from guys that know these bikes inside out! 👏👍
I love the glimpse through that white top. No idea how Gary gets anything done with you around. I need to watch the older videos again always a good way to relax.
Can I just say Hell yeah boiiii. That was awesome. Pride of the fleet surely. That video was beautiful and almost calming listening to the wise words. Well done. 👏
Hi Chris I'm delighted that you now have certainty that the bike is genuine as that can't be taken for granted. I hope it gives you many years of owning pleasure. Had to laugh about the comment 'burzts into flames ' as a friend had that experience sadly..
Absolutely love listening to knowledgeable people.
That guy has probably forgotten more about Ducati than we ever knew, an absolute fountain of riveting info👌
Can't agree more. Motor enthusiast channels that show us those guys are not that common. Big thumbs up.
Took my 999 down to Rich in 2018 to get it road worthy after years sitting from previous owner. Absolute genius and a top bloke.
I have one 4k miles been sitting 25 years in my dining room

I automatically trusted him when I saw him wearing a flat cap.
That was also my first thought.
You know you in the hands of a expert
Henry Cole wears a flat cap too, but he gets a lot of flack!

90s bikes are over complicated garbage.
If you really want to experience true analogue riding, you need to get a horse.

That guy is awesome ... clearly knows his stuff and his attention to detail is superb. Makes me want to buy a Ducati just so I could get him to work on it.

The Fred Dibnah of Ducatis. Lovely to watch someone with that much experience.
