Awesome video mate, that’s a collection of my dreams! A couple of slight corrections to note re the WSBK championship, when it started, who Tardozzi rode for etc. 😊 The World Superbike Championship began in 1988 where Fred Merkel won both the ‘88 and ‘89 championships on his RC-30. Davide Tradozzi rode for Bimota in 1988 on the very trick YB4ei-r (Yamaha FZ 750 powered with EFI) finishing 3rd in the championship. It was Marco Lucchinelli who gave the 851 a win on debut at the first WSBK round at Donington in April 1988. After finishing second behind Bimota’s David Tardozzi in Race 1. He took the flag in Race 2 ahead of eventual series winner Fred Merkel (Honda RC30). These days I’m a bonafide Ducatista but I have also owned an RC-30 (years ago now) and completely agree with your comments re handling, they are a sublime bike to ride!

It was wonderful to hear Shane talking about the late Steve Hislop. The other chat about racing days gone by (in particular the WSS championship at its heyday when 600's were THE bike to own) was wonderful. I grew up watching the 916's through to the 998's racing in BSB and WSBK, was fortunate enough to be at brands in 1999 with that MASSIVE attendance, and also later on when Shane did the double as a wild-card. Wonderful memories, great times. Thank you.

    • @GETurn77
      @GETurn77 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes 916 was an absolute game changer in superbike history…as in ways with its power and style things like the fireblade and the R1 had there times…particularly as game changing cool road bikes..widow makers’ unfortunate apt term. GSXR’s very much part of that…Awesome bikes, all of them …and this coming from a GSXR lover ….sh•t and the ZXR’s need there mention too…sherbet I’m getting emotional…back in the day.
Rider aids were your right wrist. None of this anti wheelie bollocks…traction and crap. That’s what riding a powerful bike must be ..keep the front down or control the wheelie. Sure lap times will be slower but that’s riding not relying on electronics to control that…

An AMAZING collection of "CROTCH-ROCKETS". The local Can-am shop hired me at age 13 & my boss started taking me to Daytona Bike Week in 1973. Our AMA M/C CLUB flagged the Road Racing practices & races. 1973 the RR Bikes were air cooled, drum brakes, spoke wheels. We were right in the middle of all the action in the pits, starting grid, and track, riders.I learned a great appreciation for RR bikes,& riders. Back in those days all teams used box trucks & vans, well we happened to be standing in the pit/garage area when Team YAMAHA 53' BIG RIG Tractor trailers pulls in and unloads Kenny Robert's tz-750. This bike looked like something NASA made. Mag wheels, triple disc brakes, in-line 4cyl. liquid cooled 2stroke, 4expansion chambers, monoshock. Kenny lapped the 2nd place rider in the Daytona 200 and nobody was surprised due to the advanced technology YAMAHA put into this bike. Thank You

Plenty of nerdy stuff around that one, especially when you start looking at the engine. Can you go back and do a whole show on just that one bike please? 🤣 By the way World Supers started in ‘88 at Donington, Tardozzi did win race 1 but on a Bimota. I’ve got a 1994 Fast-By-Ferracci Ducati 916 sp1 only 311 made, rare as rare can be. And I’ve just bought a Kawasaki 2004 Zx6rr M1, only 50 made, with 2800 miles on the clock. These vids are great keep up the great work.

Wow what a collection. My favourite is the NH Fireblade that he won in Malaysia on. What an absolute find.
The owner is obviously extremely wealthy and I understand why he wants to remain anonymous. So thank you to the owner for allowing The Late Brake Show to visit.
Shakey is nearly as good to watch presenting as he was to watch racing. Love this channel.

Shakey has come such a long way since I used to read his road tests in the 90's Fast Bikes magazine....I loved that mag. ( I'd take the UK spec' RC30)

WOW and what excellent commentary by Shakey as it made even this room full of special bikes, come alive for me with racing and other memories. Nice work both.

Incredible!! I have the start of a collection just like this, only it's 1/12th scale! Great to see you Shakey getting into your zone after such an epic career. Hope to see you racing again in the future, and would be great to bump into an old friend at an event one day soon... it's been too long mate!

Stunning collection of bike beautifully curated and great to have Shakey to show us all round!
I’m and I would take the Ducati 2017 Shakey Byrne 2 championship bike! Though the V4SP is I’m only allowed to smuggle a road bike out!
Truth is I would like the lot!

Fantastic collection of bikes. MR Shane Shakey has a wonderful way of delivering an engaging story.
I remember when 851 arrived on the superbike scene and changed everything.
So the 851 would be my favourite for sentimental reasons, or is it the any other V twin or V4, how the hell is someone suppose to choose ?!
I remember watching the Australian Superbike Championship and hearing those 'V' config engine bikes above the inline fours, that will stay with me till my last days.

I'm definitely a Honda biased guy. With that being said, 100% Nicky's bike. Such a tragic loss. I've been a huge fan for as long as I can remember. Man, what a cool video! Such a pleasure to hear Shakey speak about the history of this collection. I much enjoyed it.

    Hello Shane Byrne,
Thank you for showing us this amazing collection.
My favorite Ducati is actually the Ducati Desmosedici RR, which you unfortunately did not mention in your video recording 🤷🏻‍♂️.
    Cheers Wil.

SB knowledge on these bikes is amazing.. to hear someone with so much personal experience with these bikes talking about them makes it extra special . And the fact he was so good at riding them makes him the best qualified person to give this tour . What a breath taking collection

Yeah you don't often get that. The right mix of real Champion + watchable personality. They either have one or the other (or, in some cases, neither). SB is a genuine kid in a sweetshop here, you could feel the emotion of him contemplating that 1st Championship bike.

Fantastic collection. I don’t know if he still has it but I once saw Tony O’Neil’s one and it definitely has the edge even on the Ducati museum. Only race bikes (and a couple of actual jet fighters).
Starts with a 888 and then virtually every Factory 916/996/998/999 of the leading rider or both. And then MotoGP D16 all over. My head was spinning.
