      Hi there. Can you tell me if you used all the exact same ingredients she did in her recipe? I tried making a small batch just to test out (not to be shelf stable or anything like that) so I did not add the preservative to her homemade aloe vera gel since I don't have any preservatives, but I used the same other ingredients. After adding the aloe and whisking it into the butter it became very stiff and hard. Do you know what I might have done wrong? I was really hoping to be able to use home made aloe gel and my block of shea butter.

      Yes, exactly

    • @Khalia333
      @Khalia333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Unfortunately, you are still going to need to add more preservative to the final product. The preservative in the aloe gel is only effective for the gel alone. Once you add the gel to something (or something to the gel), the preservative gets diluted and becomes less/non-effective. You have to compensate for that in the final product. If you are making this for yourself and plan on using it up fairly quickly then it's fine. If you plan on trying to sell it, then you definitely need more preservative.

    • @cecilvig
      @cecilvig  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Khalia333 Thank you for your feedback.
      If the ingredient added to the store bought aloe vera gel is water-based, then we need to add a preservative, but if it is oil-based, then we don't need to add a preservative.
      In this recipe I have added shea butter which is 0% water and I have also added vitamin E because shea butter can oxidise. My fragrance is also pure oil.

    • @Khalia333
      @Khalia333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@cecilvig You will still need to add more preservative because you are diluting the preservative that's in the aloe vera when you add any extra ingredient; water-based or not.

    I have purchased 5lbs of unrefined shea butter which is yellow and very smoky nutty scent. It’s yellow. It’s hard to cover the shea butter scent. ( I’m new and didn’t know better). I don’t want to waste it. Do you have any suggestions as to what scent to use with it that would complement and help the shea scent? I’m also thinking people prefer a white moisturizer over the yellow colored ones. Maybe I can add mica powder to give it a pretty color. Your thoughts?? Thank you.

    • @mscatledge1
      @mscatledge1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I wonder if I can help. I make body butter, and when I first started, I also had a hard time covering the scent of unrefined Shea butter. You have a few choices here. You can find scents that compliment the nutty aroma of the Shea or mix the Shea with another butter. I used Sal butter to do my body butter. It helps cut the scent of the Shea. Mango butter works too. Also, don't be discouraged about using yellow Shea. The yellow tint is rather pretty in body butter when using a scent like the lemon pound cake scent I use. Good luck.

    Hi new subscriber here. Wow such simple ingredients, I love THIS! I'm going to do this as a face cream of course I gotta do a couple of batch tests first. But I absolutely love shea butter and aloe vera gel for the face. 😍Also guys, the ones concerned about the product spoiling or whatever, the natural vitamin E is an anti-oxidant that prevents products from going rancid or spoiling. Also store bought aloe vera gel already has a preservative in it, or at least it should, check for ingredient on the container such as phenoxyethanol or any other preservative name. The product lasts as long as your shortest raw ingredient shelf life does. Me personally I would label 6 mos from use.

    Beautiful video. My concern is that the use of aloe gel necessitates a preservative for safety; unless the batch will be all used up in a few days, microbe growth definitely will occur.
