      Since your a formulator, just curious why use an emulsifier if your not using water. Wouldn’t stearic acid be better. It has a much higher melting point and it’s a stabilizer. It’s an emollient and a lubricant.

    Thank you for sharing your recipe. As you grow and share what you do teaching your audience how to make these body and room sprays grows your audience offer that they can buy ready made from you or make themselves and wholesale the containers and ingredientwhich can grow into a business of its own. You can make a recipe book and sell that to help others get started with their own business and buy all they need from you. I love to see how you make things your videos are great! But I would prefer to just buy it and would buy from you seeing how you are making this. Also your video on product photography was really good. You can approach restaurants in your area and offer to take their menu dishes pictures for them. Have a rate for digital and one for prints. I’m in the food industry and covid hit hard. Many smaller independent restaurants had to get creative - offer to take pictures for their website for their menu or to create a to go menu or menu in general. Go look at how they are marketing on their menu and website and tailor your presentation to that customers need with your photography. Specially for the internet which so many did not have a presence in. Who’s you the best snd many Blessings.

      Take your total ounces and multiply by the %. For example, if your total batch size is 16 ounces, multiply 16 x .15 = 2.4 ounces of shea butter; 16 x .30 = 4.8 ounces of kokum butter; 16 x .05 = 0.8 ounces mango butter; etc.

      You’ll need to get registered and have a stand alone facility and an inspection from the state. It costs over $1000 + yearly inspections. It’s easier to out source your recipe, have someone else make it for you in a different state, and you sell it (which is what I’ll be doing) until I get my own studio.

    • @AS-dw9oe
      @AS-dw9oe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is possible to create a body butter WITHOUT preservatives as long as you don’t add water to it since over time, it causes rancidity. A body butter with purely oils and butters with arrowroot powder is called an Anhydrous Formulation which means it has NO water. If you don’t have water in it, you don’t need a preservative. Depending on the percentage ratios of the butters to oils will depend on how thick, dense, light and fluffy it is. I like mine to be denser but still with a bit of airy texture to it (kinda like the Truly Beauty Butters) so I do 70% butters and 30% oils. 🥰 Hope this helps! Also, make sure you store it in a dark cool place

    the recipe looks amazing but I was wondering how much my btms50 doesn’t melt easily. Takes forever and it is still a bit clumpy. Also when whipping it became hard and into small clumps. Is there such a thing as too whipped? Thanks!

    Hello! May I ask the reason why you added a preservative? Is it because of the aloe extract? I’m just starting to learn about formulation and such. 😄 It looks amazing 🥥

      Preservative is a must when you have any formulation with water, even distilled & boiled water. Lotions/creams develop bacteria at the drop of a hat so always spray/wipe all of your pots, bowls, utensils & storage containers with 91% rubbing alcohol & maintain a sterile environment as much as possible. Though preservative isn't required in oil based formulas with no water, it's a good idea. There are a few good "natural" preservatives, vitamin E oil & lavender EO do not count as such. Research videos on skincare preservatives, its very helpful!

    • @AS-dw9oe

      When formulating body and skincare products, usually they use a weight scale to weigh their products and use glass beakers that have a high tolerance to heat! I’m a newbie at this stuff too but have been learning a bunch of stuff 🥰

    • @HawthornCompany
      @HawthornCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can replace anything you want ♥️ you can also lower the BTMS50 to 3% and the arrowroot powder to 5% and add up to 7% extra oils instead, or up to 7 extra botanical extracts at 1% each. As for adding all of the oils, I recommend sticking to 1 to 4 oils at most.

      Hi dear I used this recipe.
      Instead of kokum butter I used cocoa butter. Below was the ratio
      20% mango
      15% cocoa n Shea each
      The consistency is like ice Cream n it's melting. Where did I go wrong. Can you please guide

      @@sonalishah6923 your formulation should consist of 70% butters and 30% oils
      Or 80% butters and 20% oils
      I think you did not use enough butters hence why it Is melting

    I'm fairly new to making bath and body products. This recipe is a bit confusing to me, how do I convert this recipe to lbs, oz, ml ect? Also if I don't have kokum butter, are there any substitutes that I can use? Or could I use 25% shea butter and 25% mango butter or 15% mango butter, 30% shea butter and 5% coco butter?

    • @HawthornCompany
      @HawthornCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hi! Everything is done by weight, so you won’t need to measure by ML. I gave it as percentages so you can use whatever metric you desire and create however much you want. I’ll give you an example, let’s say you want to make 6 ounces of product, then you’d take the percentages of the recipe and apply it to 6 ounces. 30% of 6 ounces would be 1.80 ounces (6 multiplied by .30 in a calculator) and so forth. If you want to convert it to pounds, then every 16 ounces equals 1 pound. In this scenario, if your scale reads pounds and not ounces, I would just use grams instead, since it’s less confusing (to me) than having to convert pounds to ounces and vise versa. Or, if you want to make 1lb and 6 ounces of product, that is equal to 22 ounces, so you’d use 30% of 22 ounces, which is 6.60 ounces.
      As for a substitution, if you use a lot of Shea butter the recipe will be really soft, and mango butter has a lower melt point. You can definitely leave out the Kokum butter though and just substitute it for more Shea there’s nothing wrong with that. It will make it creamier and fluffier, but have a lower melt point. If you try it and don’t like how soft it is, increase the BTMS 50 to 8 or 10% to make it firmer. If you don’t have BTMS50, then replace it with Emulsifying Wax NF (start with 5% and go from there).
      You can play with any combo of butters, there’s no right or wrong answer. Body butters are fun to play around with because the recipe is so flexible ♥️

    Can Aloe Extract be substituted or omitted if I don't have it on hand? If substituted, does it have to be an extract? If omitted, do I increase another ingredient to keep the % at 100%?

      You don’t have to add the extract, just increase the % of something else (oils preferably)
