    These details are what make a truck look way better. Your average person will notice that something looks different but they can't put a finger on it, and thats what you want. Its so easy to over do it and this stuff is the perfect way to make your truck stand out.

      It does stick to all smooth surfaces. Between coats while the film is wet you can score the spots (with a toothpick) where you want it to tear. Or you can score with a blade when dry to weaken the film in a nice straight line. I prefer option 1.

    • @Donslife

      I think both methods can work if you have used the product before. On a side not, you can spray dip on piece of scrap cardboard or plastic and wet a detail brush or toothpick to dab a little material back on. This can be handy if you have an accident. As for the durability - no problems yet!

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The exterior probably after 45 mins. The interior probably the same but there are two methods I have done. One way for the interior is to use a knife and drag the blade lightly to thin the film around the edges before it fully dries. Then carefully peel after dried. Or you can let it dry, slowly and carefully drag the knife blade where you want the film to break. Be careful not to scratch the plastic parts and go slow. If you make a small mistake you can use a modelling brush and dab Hyperdip on the spot that lifted. It should bond and dry with the surrounding dip.

      I prefer Hyperdip for what you described chrome deleting. It is a little more finicky than plasti dip, but it is designed for automotive specifically. Plasti dip is more general use but all made by the same company. Tip: don’t use bug and tar remover on either. It softens the coating.

    Hey Don, great video. I just did the same thing to my at4 but I’m having trouble getting the red 4 to be outlined in black while keeping it red. Every time I pull out the middle of the 4 to expose the red again, it just pulls some of the black off the outline leaving spots of chrome showing. Do you have a better method for getting the 4 out?

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question; There are a couple methods. You can use a sharp toothpick and score the edge in between wet coats to thin the film. This will allow it to tear in the thin spots. You can also use a knife, but you risk scratching the emblem. If you peel a spot a little more than you wanted, don’t panic, you can use a modelling paint brush and spray some dip in the cap, then dab it on the light spot and it will reactivate the film and bond.

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used a knife and very slowly and carefully cut it out. I just let the knife rest on the dried dip and drug it along slowly (didn’t want to scratch the plastic). Then once I could peel a little, I kept the knife there to cut any spots that weren’t separating. Since it is small it didn’t take too long.

    Love your vids! I’m a twenty year painting contractor, wanting to do some cosmetic work on my AT4. Just so I’m clear with this process, you did not intricately mask each letter, but just a box around the badge? Then you peeled away what was on the paint job of the truck and you did not have to score it at the badge? So where the badge meets the paint of the truck and the red part of the badge did not require scoring, it just pulled away because of the angle? Thanks!
    Also, one more question, I saw you did your wheels on another video, if you spray out the Lugnuts does the paint job get damaged when the lugs are removed for tire rotation?

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Randy, for the AT4 red insert, I like to use a toothpick and score the outline of the 4 in the crease between wet coats. The goal is to keep the film thin where you want to tear it. It is a good idea to keep a modelling brush handy to and dip it in some material sprayed in the can lid. You can touch up any jagged edges this way too if your line in the ‘4’ isn’t straight.
      You are correct about masking a box around the emblems. The film won’t bridge the body of the vehicle to the emblem because the adhesive keeps the letters off the body. Just peel slowly and you should be good. Use that toothpick for the hard to reach spots and sharp angles if needed. You don’t need to score around the badges/emblems at all. The only spot I have had to is in these red ‘4’ sections.

      @@ronzy417 honestly if you want permanent, I would pay to have them professionally painted or powder coated. They have the equipment to do it right and probably in a day. Well worth it. • @Donslife
      @Donslife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What are you spraying? My 3 main pieces of advice are:
      1 - Clean the surface of all contaminants
      2 - Don’t spray too heavy - lots of light coats only or it could run. You can wipe runs carefully and keep going with more coats and probably salvage the job
      3 - peel carefully! The dip will tear nicely if there was an existing gap (like the cars body and the emblem). The adhesive on the emblem keeps it off the body, so the dip makes a ‘bridge or film’ but it is super weak so it tears when you are peeling. If you have a tiny issue, you can spray some dip on a piece of scrap cardboard or something and dip a small paint brush and repair and edge of you peeled to far. A knife can work in some areas but it is incredibly risky too, so I typically don’t use one.

      I know a guy that did red. Looks good too. @weir003 on Instagram. I recommend sanding lots and even wire brushing if needed to get all of the chrome scraped down
