    FINALLY a show that shows both the outside situation and then continues on inside the hospital. All the ambulance shows just having patients dropped off at the ER and that is the last you see of them. I always wonder how they make out, especially the seriously injured ones. Very good series. As an ER X-ray tech for 25 years I saw a lot, but it is fun to see the other techs doing what I used to do.

      I suffered a brain hemorage in 2015. If it wasn't for the Devon Air Ambulance I would have died. My saturation levels were dangerously high and I suffered a level 4 Brain Hemorage. They decided to take me by Air Ambulance because the land Ambulance believed that I wouldn't have made it to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by land. I'm glad I have these amazing videos on TH-cam to watch. And it makes me feel reassured to know that I am not the only one to suffer a Brain Hemorage and come out the other side. All be it in a wheelchair and my memory isn't like it was but I'm alive. My thanks to the Devon Air Ambulance, The Neuro Surgeon, Nurses and the ITU Nurses especially for sitting with me for the 3 months that I was in a coma and on a ventilator. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK 🙏 YOU To each and everyone of you. (Even if the sound quality is as some people have commented is poor). What does it matter to someone like me who's life was saved by all these AMAZING Medics. Life is to short to have a rant about the poor quality of sound. I was run down by a car while trying to mind my own business on my motorcycle, of coarse the bloody driver drove off,I imagine it ruined his Saturday morning ,my bike apparently was in pieces,I was able to give my parents phone number to another motorcyclists looking after me lying on the road,I had over $3,500 worth of motorcycle leathers and other protective gear on.I can not remember anything,including some things in previous days.no pain, no “oh no” or “shit I’m flying through the air”.Motorbike riding for some people like me is one of very few things that helps my depression and makes me always happy,this is gold when your 42 years old.Broken L5 vertebrae ( squeezing on the nerve that cause massive pain down my right leg and numbness), compound fractured “open book” fracture of front of pelvis,broken rear sacrum (rear pelvis), ruptured testies(no more children plus testosterone shots for rest of life), acl tear in right knee.9 weeks on my back in hospital with a metal external pelvic stabilisation on(very uncomfortable) plus 2 internal rear pelvic screws.16 months now,still looking for a job,specialists appointments still,but I’m pretty much rehabbing myself now.Im still not strong enough to get on a bike,but I admit I dream of riding again.
    It’s maybe a little bit like telling people you believe in a god or your gay,it’s hard for family and medical staff to understand why I would want to put my life at risk again of not just injury,but serious spinal and brain injury,or death, but I think I speak for a lot of motorcyclists that use riding not for speed or risk taking,but for being so in the moment,freedom from self, I like putting on the helmet and slamming down that visor,I don’t like myself a lot,but in those few hours riding,I’m free from myself.

    Paramedics in the UK are amazing.
    They’ve given me a ride to hospital a few times now.
    Last time was for a pulmonary embolism, which wasn’t too pleasant.
    I had the taste of blood in the back of my throat for weeks and had to inject myself 3 times a day in the stomach with Fragmin.
    Because of my weight at the time, I needed 2 injections 3 times a day.
    The injections were the worst part of it, as my whole stomach was black and blue half way though the 3 month course of injections.
    I was transported straight from my GPs office to hospital by ambulance…..I’d only went into my GP as I thought I had a chest infection.
    I ended up in intensive care with nurses watching me the whole time and I was told that I could take a turn for the worse at any time.
    Luckily I was out within 24 hours and felt better within 7 days of starting my treatment.
    I now suffer from repeat DVTs and peripheral vascular disease, which was undiagnosed until I got the Pulmonary embolism.
    I’m now on Rivaroxaban for life.

    Doctors carry out blood/blood product transfusions, amputations, RSI, stronger drugs etc. Also, London's Air Ambulance doctors can perform REBOA, thoracostomy and thoracotomy (full opening of the chest)...
    It isn't a competition on what your paramedics can do in what country. I don't understand why so many of you think that's wrong to utilise doctors this way just because you don't.
    Our paramedics go to university for four years to qualify. They're extremely well trained.

    • @roguewolf7053
      @roguewolf7053 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was a paramedic (both land & flight) & then an ER Nurse/flight nurse for years. I think y’alls use of drs on scene is fantastic. There ARE places here in the US that have begun doing something similar. I know in southern Louisiana they have very small helicopters used to carry JUST a dr & their gear to severe sites to help the paramedics. The small helicopters can land nearly anywhere. MOST places here DO have helicopter ambulances and more & more are having trauma drs assigned to fly with them. It’s a good system & saves more lives than what was done previously.
      While in MY state (every state in the US has different rules as to what medics can do) I could do MOST of those things. But would have to can the dr who was over my company medics to get permission. Which delays such actions. A dr on scene wouldn’t have to spend the time explaining their reasoning & debating care before acting. And seconds MATTER!! 😕😕🤷🏻‍♀️😞
      I’m also VERY IMPRESSED how organized their ER teams are!! Where the dr can stand back & just IMMEDIATELY take in the info the team provides RATHER than performing most of those test themselves OR hearing it repeated to them 2nd hand when they get there AFTER the exam is began by nurses. I was an ER Nurse & sometimes the lack of organization during major trauma care. My NORMAL team was organized but we mostly did it ourselves. Rather than it being standard. 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️😒

    Life is very fragile at any age. Unexpected things happen to good people. Anyone over 50 has those problems as well as onset of mid age health problems but no matter if 8 years old or 98, try to find something good in each day & never miss saying a friend or loved one how you really do care. I've lost many loved ones. I have regrets about things I should have said or perhaps not said. Don't let that happen to you. It will bother your mind forever. Life is ups & downs like an EKG. There will always be some bumpy times so be used to that & never worry over little things or that will make them big things.

      I'm not quite sure to what extent the paramedics are trained in the are where you live, but trauma RSI, chest drains (not just decrompressions), pre-hospital REBOA or pre-hospital resuscitative thoracotomy (open heart surgery) certainly are things most certainly not done by average joe.

    • @laceandbits
      @laceandbits 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Chris Thomson Some of the drugs such as Ketamine can only be administered by a doctor, and strong painkillers are necessary in order to do things like straighten a fractured femur. Yes, I agree they were relatively close to a hospital but fractured femur and pelvis can kill due to blood loss. If the blood isn't getting to the foot and they move him before the leg is straightened, more damage could have happened.
      I have been in this situation after a car accident, with broken femur, pelvis, ankle, fibula, both knees, elbow and maxilla. I am really grateful that a doctor was in attendance to minimise further damage to me, and the less qualified ambulance staff (wonderful and well trained as they are) didn't just scoop me up and take me to hospital which was only 15 minutes drive away.
      No, it's not unique to London, this was in rural Sussex 30 years ago. Pretty well the whole of the UK has this system in place thanks to our struggling National Health Service - and it's free at the point of use, although we should all be paying more into it.

      This is actually also done in several places in the US. It’s just not common/standard practice here yet.

      It's pretty common in the UK for a doctor to attend serious emergencies, they usually have their own vehicle or are part of the air ambulance crew. Doctors can perform surgery at the scene, allowing the patient to be transported in a more stable condition.

      In the US EMTs must be accompanied by at least a paramedic for 911 calls. There are also nurses and doctors that will go to the scene for more extreme emergencies. EMT here. Also the requirement of education for paramedics and EMTs has gotten higher in recent years (even though we’re still paid garbage).

    I just want to say what a wonderful job you all did with each and every patient. If only our doctors and emergency rooms here in the US were as efficient it would,be wonderful. And your ER Boards in 2 pieces is so much better for the patient. You can easily remove the without any adde stress on you patient. Great job. As a retired and disabled married couple, I am 62 hubby is 61 and our 33 year old son is disabled but improving slowly. Albeit much slower than we all thought but since we have no idea or proof of drugs his wife had been slipping in his food which caused a mental breakdown and attempted suicide we will never know. And the extremely poor hospital that saw him first should have immediately done a drug screen, plus a general practitioner prescribing medication only a qualified and license psychiatrist should prescribe we will never really know everything. Only effervescent their disillusionment of the marriage after a psychiatrist, nurses and even fellow patients told our son it was very obvious his ex wife did not care. And the doctor that was luckily there on his third admission had a meeting with our son, his the wife and her (the DR) and told her he was getting more support from his parents over the phone than she was doing and told him to go home with his parents and basically get away from his ex wife. After he was home we finally find out she had been using drugs but he didn't know that until after they where married. The sad thing is she works at a nursing home facility and gets wasted before going to work. At any rate I have bagged my husband to move to the U.K. But he says it is just to expensive and doesn't know how we would live. Such a pity, as I love your country and history and would gladly move there and change my citizenship. But alas it evidently not in Gods plans for us to live out our lives i a beautiful small town and country. And receive proper medical care. Keep up the good work.

      +Mrs. Garcia Of course but what kind of medical care you get is unrelated to whether you pay taxes or how much you pay. Many people don't make enough money to pay any taxes, and some pay way more or way less than others since taxes are based on income. When people call it free they mean free at point of use. Of course no one thinks it magically appears :).

    I think it would be a grand idea as seeing sooo many people that are in "unable to talk situations" or the docs puttin people in sleepmode to save their life. That medical info is so deadly important to know, really life or death... Quite scary actually if you think about it....

      WONDERFUL IDEA!! Also a good idea to put a card in your wallet or fill out the ICE (in case of emergency) info on your phone which CAN be accessed without unlocking your phone! As a ex paramedic/ER nurse & now unfortunately a complex chronic illness patient such things are PRICELESS in emergencies where u cant communicate & CAN save your life!! They also actually have micro jump drives that you can put ALL your medical info on and carry on a necklace or bracelet. I have one that is in a card in my wallet & do have another that goes on a necklace too. As well as filled on the ICE info on my iPhone. My husband also carries a micro jump drive with my info on it as well as a card in his wallet listing my meds, allergies & medical diagnosis.

What many don’t realize that in major trauma/injury/illness pain CAN KILL by throwing the patient into shock or causing a heart attack/stroke. Of course NOW with everyone HYSTERICALLY PARANOID concerning opioid based pain meds patients’ pain isn’t NEARLY as well controlled. 😕😒😒 I imagine in a few years when this hysteria turns around they will look at the numbers and see that a significant number of patients lost their lives or suffered serious complications due to lack of proper pain control. Ugh. Sorry...rant over.

      @@roguewolf7053 I am a chronic pain patient bc of my MS. There is no cure and it will only get worse as time goes on. I've already had battles over getting my prescribed pain meds. In MN pharmacies now have the last say and it's ridiculous. I've known children with cancer who have had to jump thro hoops to get meds. It's a sad world we live in today. I'm terrified of what my future with pain holds. Even with the lil meds I do get I still live at anywhere from a 4 up to an 8 in pain every day. There's so much wrong with how opiates are looked upon in society. I can't count the amt of times I've gotten the "oh look here's another seeker" looks/tone when trying to get my meds so I don't withdrawal. I hate it so much but I have a 3 yo so I need to be up and moving all day every day. Thank you for making an epic point! 😊
