I have watched the entire series and found it very enlightening and educational. I then went to watch NY MED, and was highly dissatisfied with the way it was filmed, and the jazzing up of the show. Trauma investigation was far more serious in its approach, whilst NY MED seemed far more disorganised and rather flippant. I congratulate Trauma Investigations for its hard hitting reality and the dedication of all those doctors, trauma specialists, paramedics, doctors, surgeons and nurses involved. I have great respect for all those involved in producing an excellent series. Thank you so very much.

I completely agree...and I find myself worrying about the financial implications for the US patients... I worked for several years in Australian emergency departments which seem very similar to the UK in their processes and attitudes....and healthcare here is free so for our patients there is no added anxiety about how to pay for their treatment..the impression I get is that in America, health is big business and not a Right, such a shame..

Health care in USA is BIG BUSINESS, nothing more.
If one needs to go to emergency care, the wait can be from four to six hours, sometimes longer.
Never take an ambulance as that is an outrageous expense, upwards of $2,000.
Truly, if ever in USA DO NOT GET SICK, if you do get sick, go to Canada.

These doctors are great 👍. For an E.R doc he has great bedside manner. In the U.S. some of the E.R. Doctors are over stressed and act like robots. The trauma team is great. So calm
This is not an ER, it's actually a Major Trauma Centre - Only a small number of hospitals (11 in England) offer this highly specialised and expert treatment. But if you need to be there you will get there. And not to bash the US but at no point will the patient or the treatment staff ever have to concern themselves with who is going to pay for the care - care being the sole purpose of a medical system and all...
I agree, America hospitals are very bad. It's all about money. They spending billions of dollars making hospitals look like luxury high rises, but wont assist in putting money into actual patient treatment and care.
clive ramsbotty I was in a trauma hospital in Montana. I paid my deductible for my insurance. With the insurance from the young man who killed my boyfriend and change my life forever. I had to give part of the $25,000 to the hospital. They did like that my bill was over $500,000. Funny...I thought that was why I had insurance.after I paid my lawyer and the hospital I ended up with $8,000. It still makes me angry. I lost half my right hand and my right leg above the knee. Yup...wish this happened in London
Agree. And American hospitals will find out what’s wrong with you and kick you out a day later. And then you end up back in hospital 2 days later. Sad.
It’s funny how people make America sound great in all areas, while it may have been like that a long time ago but now lots of places in the world that deal with hospitality beat the US 10 fold. I know that America is the best place if you don’t want to return home I’d rather go to the Middle East and see the horrors there then see it in America

Wishing I could move to England from USA! The elderly man stayed in hospital 2 1/2 weeks with no significant injuries after a fall down the stairs. I had a major lower spinal and upper cervical surgery and was sent home from the hospital only two days after surgery with a hard neck collar and back brace. It was horrible as there was no one to help me. So happy that the UK cares more for its people than for financial gain!!
Believe me they pay a price. It looks good on the surface but not is all as it seems. I used to live there knowing first hand.
The hospital is the worst place to be when you just need to recuperate and don’t have an acute need. Data shows you do better at home, need less pain medicine, and are more motivated to move around which is one of the most important things after any surgery. I don’t care what country you live in, get out of the hospital as soon as you can.

Brilliant episode and brilliant show. Dr Gareth Davies is both a superb physician and has a wonderful rapport with his patients. A true example for all doctors. But all the medics are fantastic.
I wish the United states would treat people like this and have teams like this the United states suck as far as medical professionals and quality of care

Doctors & nurses in the US lack the compassion and ethics of their own profession. I myself worked in the medical field & hated the way we treat ppl. Lot of the times it was hard for me to keep my mouth shut telling others how to do their own jobs.
Yes the US has a long way to come but at the moment it doesn't seem likely to change!

If I understood correctly when explained to me, it's a crosswalk.
A bit late to the party, but zebra crossings are marked crossings of which pedestrians always have the right of way to cross.
Unlike a so called pelican crossing, which has the traditional "wait and walk when the green man shows", zebra crossings are a constant green light for pedestrians present, 24/7. Vehicles must reasonably stop to accommodate people waiting to cross, failure to do so is a driving offence.
The reason why it's silly that a person is walking blindly over the zebra crossing is because despite that person technically having the right of way in most cases, they should have been aware that a police car might not have been able to reasonably stop in time had they crossed in the path of the vehicle. Emergency services vehicles on blue lights and sirens have the right of way at a zebra crossing over a pedestrian, that's really the only exception. Alot of people forget rules like that, or they'll blindly step out in the path of a moving car because *technically* they have the right of way. Unfortunately being right doesn't always coincide with the momentum of vehicles travelling along the road.
Since you've been watching this program in its entirety, no doubt, you probably will have seen that alot of accidents involving cars-v-pedestrians are caused by pedestrians assuming that just because they have the right of way, that they are perpetually safe to cross.

I just found this in my feed…this would be my dream job!! It’s got gorgeous paramedics, a helicopter, and gorgeous paramedics..oh, did I already say that?!?
Some comments were about James…I don’t know if they said why he was combative… if a body has major trauma, especially the head, your body has things that you don’t know…his body was in the fight mode that your brain tells your body to react to…I’m just on the little bit showing James in the start…some ppl that see a person fighting and think that he was being angry, but nope…that just means he needs to get to the hospital very quickly
Hope James recovers ok. My 25 year old daughter has heart conditions and can be hooked up to monitors that can be seen at nurses stations, she's had nurses rush into her room twice because she'd had a heart rate as low as 35, and she'd be watching tv or listening to music. Some of her conditions can make it go really low. She has a defibrillator/pacemaker so we know shes safer now lol.
Love these doctors. So calm and nice and Anne is a badass. She's good and so confident. Love it. Would Love to work with her for a few days. I would learn so much. But my endlish isn't that good to work in a English native country.
This happened to me and they kept me for a week until I could eat then sent me on my way. It was horrible. Took me 6 months to feel better. Never found out what it was that caused it
Poor James has a head injury and does not know what he is doing.
Doesn’t matter what day it is when you’re retired, unless it’s Christmas or something. We don’t care once we’re retired. I don’t anyway. I do what I want, when I want, regardless of what day it is.
As a air doctor I always feel horrible if somebody dies. I feel so bad.
Don’t feel horrible. Your efforts are amazing. Dying is sometimes unavoidable. All we can do is our best. Those who you have helped and those who you tried to help will have appreciated you too.

When I worked in A&E we nicknamed bikers "organ doners" (hospital dark humour) I quit riding bikes after 6 months of starting work there.
Here in Poland we call bikers "donors" too. Im still riding my bike because if I wanted to eliminate every risk in my life I would have to stay in bed 24/7 and give up every bit of fun life has to offer..

You see this with any type of injury. Some people respond extreme.
As a doctor or nurse it is hard to treat someone that is acting like a spooked deer. They can hurt you real bad, and they don't mean to.

my son had a major bleed in his brain the resus team could not stop it and after treating him for a while i had to sit and watch my son die, unless you have had a similar experience you could not understand the helpless feeling as he slowly died and there was nothing you could do.

asking an older person what day it is (date or day of the week) sometimes isn't really the best way to make sure they are aware of their surroundings. Many retirees live blissfully unaware of what day of the week it is. A better one is what time of day or what month/season/year
Great observation. I keep telling my mother's doctors the same thing. She's 84. The only day she cares about is Sunday.

I was thinking the same thing, I'm 39 and self employed and I completely lose track! I think in this case it could be down to editing out a lot of the examination for the program though.
Errhka old people still watch their soaps and old ppl tv so im sure they know what day it is. Just because your old doesn’t mean your completely oblivious of what day of the week it is. You have to take in account that they also have birthday partys and functions they attend and so will check the dates. Moreover they have much more free time than the younger lot so are thus more inclined to know the date than their more youthful counterparts
Totally agree. I am on disability and I NEVER know the date. I do usually know what day it is though (kids go to daycare, that's why).

After watching a lot of these kind of episodes (as a person that happens to take multi medications with a few other issues) I am now looking into getting a 🏥Medical Bracelet (they also have necklaces and keychains🏩 now as well😊. I didn't know)...
I think it would be a grand idea as seeing sooo many people that are in "unable to talk situations" or the docs puttin people in sleepmode to save their life. That medical info is so deadly important to know, really life or death. Quite scary actually if you think about it.

MizzzKitty yes I bought one too. I’m physically disabled, have hip dysplasia, on a ton of meds and have tons of spasm triggers brought about when I’m incorrectly moved or my legs are bent against gravity.

Doctor made a mistake with the thoracotomy. Should have listened to his lungs closer. I am an advocate of taking patient straight to CT scan if they are hemodynamically stable. By the time the patient is back to the Trauma bay they know exactly what to treat and when.

YES! I was thinking the same. That frustrated me so much. And, while I understand how it is so critical in timing to save lives and get blood and air so the heart doesn't stop from pressure, when you have a bunch of hands nearby even in the er where it is more sterile, use some damn iodine before cutting the skin.
He wasn't stable though he was bradicardic & his chest was crackling with a head injury. The thoracotomy enabled them to transfer him too hospital as he would of died in the transfer due too the pressure build up in the helicopter due his 2 collapsed lungs which would of put extreme pressure on his heart causing a cardiac arrest which is extremely difficult to treat mid air. Even in hospital he was still unstable post rsi.

It’s so sad to see that most hospitals may not or don’t care about the patient but about money but these people in UK are different as their faces and behaviour tell that they work to help and understand what is not known, money is worthless here and has no value this is a hospital not a luxury hotel being used as a hospital
That's why we lead the world in emergency trauma treatment, because it's not about money. It's about compassion and care for the patient. Lesser nations charge people to be looked after and cared for, but universal health care free at the point of contact, is the only way to behave in any responsible and civilised society.

Why is there two different HEMS teams present in the first case (and why did it seem like the first team hadn't started to do anything?)?
artspooner was most likely another on call team, even with the London air ambulance they can have more than one trauma team available to respond in cars alongside their helicopter! I can only guess that the first HEMS team had just finished primary survey and inspecting the patient when the helicopter team arrived, this is probably why it looked like they hadn’t done much, as a lead clinician it only made sense for her to essentially take over his care from her arrival, but yes to answer your question it was just another on call HEMS team, quite common in larger areas it’s just the majority of patients aren’t lucky enough to get 2 teams at once! (Plus the helicopter was probably requested by the first doctor who had arrived with his team via vehicle)

I have so much respect and admiration for all first responders, regardless of where you're located...You are nothing short of angels!!! Thank you to everyone who selflessly put their own lives, at times in danger to help and save others...After watching this show, I can only say the United states should take some pointers on how to treat their citizens as human beings and not money... Our healthcare system is so shameful compared to Europes.

It would of settled down if that was the case.
It's possible. My good friend is highly tolerant to sedation and so the few times he's had to be sedated the poor doctors have had to play the up and down game to keep his pain managed while not sedating him too deeply. Though it could have also been due to the severe head injury.

My "major" heartburn with these doctors is - judging by the fact that the majority of these patients complain that they have no memory of the accident which resulted in their injuries, it's obvious no one explained to them that it's common to have amnesia regarding the events surrounding a head injury. I think a simple explanation of the fact that this is pretty much normal, and no cause for concern, could alleviate at least some of their concerns.
Yes,telling James, a critical patient in a lot of pain, to relax, really helps. 🤦♀️ SMH.

KittyMom 419 finger thoracostomy is a common initial pre hospital management to rapidly release intrathoracic pressure. It is quick and simple to perform. If the pt retensions, reinserting fingers will release again. If pt continues to tension a chest drain is indicated.
Tube is only needed if also priority to drain fluid, or it keeps closing before they arrive at the hospital causing the lung to start deflating again

I will never understand why people insist on riding motorcycles! If you hit something or something hits you, it's just you and the concrete or you and the tree or you and the brick wall!! There's nothing between you and severe injury or death. These people (I will refrain from calling them morons) who ride motorcycles should pay extra taxes to help pay for their reckless decisions.
