Almost like how back when I was at a conference the dude was telling us how his friend got out of juvie or prison and he got clean from drugs and we clapped for him but the dude said “don’t clap. He died a week later” like damn ok. He could’ve been nicer since we didn’t know but oh well.
@Bryan Charlier I guess he must have deleted it. He said that they should just delete their social media problem solved. That’s basically what he said.
To think others would go so far in their choice of words but fail to understand once they say it, it's very hard to apologize for. Hearts go out to her for standing up and speaking how she truly feels about this. This should make others learn about how to think before they speak
This is amazing! The only problem is, it's a program/extension/app you would have to install. A regular teenager won't willingly install it to his or her device...
She was just running the concept for tests, but it could be further developed and applied to social media platforms themselves. That way it is not up to the individual to install, but rather for the platforms to incorporate it by default. Seeing as your comment is 5 years old however, I'm surprised no single large platform has ever done anything with all of this.
This is truly heartfelt and I cannot believe these things are being said to each other. Kids just say what they want and think that it doesn't matter to the people they're saying it to, well id like to show them this video!
She is 14! Spreading the word about cyber bullying, she is amazing. The facts in this are so true and its really saddening to know that this has and still is happening in the world. Its amazing what teens can do and don't get credited for, go Trisha
Thank you for this video! This topic is really important and popular nowadays in digital world! People should be more careful about what they do in social media. A lot of people don’t think about it and do whatever they want. Users should have been more polite and friendly with each other! Cyberbullying should have ended.
I really enjoyed this talk. She used a lot of good points. Kids now days are out of control with the things they say to each other. Honestly adults are just worst because some just don't care. I like her rethink idea because you might not think it will hurt the other person but it can.
i love how most of the comments so far are telling the victims to "walk away" or "shut your computer off," "block." and "be mentally stronger." or "just ignore it" or even asking why are people letting what others say affect them? but what about telling the abusers to stop being abusive assholes?
AnTra23 Simple, reinforce them everyday. Let them know how special they are, and to ignore people who are mean to them. And to teach them if they dont like to be put down, change whatever they can to prevent it. IE if they are overweight and dont want to be called fat etc, show them and work with them to lose weight. Parenting is a LIFELONG job, you dont stop when they hit 10 years old, or teenage years, young adult years or ever adult years. Many parents stop supporting their kids emotionally when they are teenagers, assuming they are good to go. Both parents work jobs, they become disassociated with their kids. This leads kids to feel isolated, and alone, which makes them vulnerable to bullying. Our society now is based on everyone wins mentality, which creates a shit ton of weak willed individuals. Kids need to LEARN how to lose, how to ignore comments that put them down. To use those comments and losses to fuel their desire to get better. I play with my children, and let my kids win most of the time, but often enough I beat them and then counsel them that its not the end of the world and to work harder to get better. Is this a fool proof method? No way, but its a far better method than trying to censor bullying and hurtful things children and adults will say. Because it doesnt work, and it leaves people ill equipped to handle those situations. We are an aggressive, territorial, violent species, dont forget that and train your children to adapt to that behavior.
***** I disagree, giving more power to the government is the problem currently. Everyone wants to be told what to do, so they can be absolved of what they do.
I am so glad to hear the results of rethink, thank you for having a heart and the drive to do something effective that greatly reduces the risk of hurting people's feelings and saving lives. This is so wonderful and to be able to teach others to think before they post, how awesome. Now if we can just teach people that if you dream it, you can do it. And let people become more aware of how simple it is to want it think it dream it do it get it give it thanx GOOD JOB!

Cyberbullying is a serious problem of modern society. In most cases, teenagers are susceptible to cyberbullying. They should have thought about the damage before writing awful comments. You correctly noted that teenagers are like cars at great speed, they do not think about the consequences. But it seems to me that it is adults who are to blame for the fact that children have become so cruel and ruthless. Now most of the children have virtually no childhood, because they have started buying the latest gadgets early and children are sitting on social networks from an early age.
Wow, that was an amazing speech. She is flawlessly doing her work at the age of 14th. I was so glad to see the remarkable rethink alert message outcomes. They are really making difference. I can say that with surety because once i tried to wrote something ugly on one of the social media and when i click the hit button, they show me message-"Are you sure to post this comment? it may be inappropriate." Something like that. At that time i thought for a second and decided not to post. This is for everybody that rethink before you say or write on someone. We all need to stop the all kinds of bullying. It can change someone's life very drastically.
+Sajni Dalal I was amazed that such a great speech was done by a 14 year old. She comes across as someone a lot older who has something important to say.
+Sajni Dalal Yes! That was a great idea to stop all the mean stuff adolescence post on the internet! Its incredible that she has moved people so much by this speech when she is at such a young age.
I liked what she said about how our only solution is Stop, Block, Tell. I work as a Prevention Educator doing programming in K-12 and Colleges on Bullying- This video along with Shane Koyzcon's spoken word speech are very moving- the heart of the matter, is teens are growing up in the Comparison and Competition fueled culture- from Xbox Live points on Call of Duty- to how many 1.2K Likes/Followers you have on Instagram, to the modeling of our parents and politicians with Democrat/Republican disagreements. We are far too blinded by America's own sensational media. I think if we had a wider world perspective, and actually seen more images and stories of how Third world countries are suffering, in poverty, oppressed, etc. We would allllll live differently and think differently when it comes to how we treat each other. Doing these presentations- its kind of sad sometimes when I see just how students as young as 4th, 5th and 6th grade have a knowledge or direct experience with suicide ideation. That was sooo far removed from a few generations ago.. Kids might have thought about it, but rarely ever did they go through with it.... now, its almost romanticized and glamorized as a way of feeling better about ourselves and the situation. Its not right- and I dont want any youth to give up on life or their future. Keep speaking LIFE people. Keep SPEAKING LIFE!
+Daniel Gennaro I think your comment is very insightful with a lot of good points. I think as a Prevention Education you should take this video seriously and take action!
+Grant Langford thanks so much for the positive response and encouragement! I'm almost hesitant to check replies on you tube because we know they're always negative and critical. you've really inspired me, thanks for being thoughtful. kind wishes!
This is great! There were sad things said and it really proves what cyber bullying can do. Ive been cyber bullied before and I wish that person has this app. If only people around the world would understand this. I honestly am very nice and I don't think I'd need this app but I'm thinking of getting it anyway. Congrats on this and I hope you keep doing great things.
That's a great question. Thanks for posting it. As you say, we should do something for fix it. It's really important for our future generation. We should unite and think what consequences can be. This problem has been going on for a long period. The most important thing is that we should think before we start typing something. We should not forget about other people's feelings. Moreover we can regret after we did a damage. I ll make sure , i wil do everything to stop it.
That’s a great video, thank you for posting it. Cyberbulling is currently a very serious problem. Many people suffer from it. It seems to me that people should be kinder, because by insulting people they hurt them. Sometimes people scam others without even knowing them. Therefore, before you write something someone should think very well. After all, a simple name calling can bring a person to suicide.
I live by the mantra: Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. Helps when it comes to cyber bullies because those who post such hateful and hurtful things are immature. Best to just block them and surround yourself with positive loving people. Still, this program looks like it will have a positive affect. Kudos to Trisha for a job well done. :)
+Adalaide Kahless I really like that saying. it is the first time I have heard of it. I really think that the people who say them hurtful things to others are just looking for someone to pay them attention. I do agree with you that if they are being bullied they should just block them and stay away
this is amazing and groundbreaking, why today are ISP's not using this - instead tomorrow sports stars in UK start a boycott of social media to make a statement
+Michael Graham I agree with you on this. However, I believe it should be bigger than just Facebook. Awareness should be addressed across the entire internet.
This is a very serious problem today in our society. Kids get of the internet and say whatever they want, when they want too. I agree 100% that if these kids just think before they say something that could be very hurtful to others, it could save lives.
I daresay, that the research that you have done should have a great meaning for all people using social websites. The chart was extremely informative and I suppose this app should have helped users to rethink or even delate their comments.
Great video and very heroic of her to develop this app and I hope that it is an integral and non-removable part of technology to come. The other point here is that people who post these comments and videos of victims need to be held accountable in a very serious manner and no slap on the wrist. This might make people think twice as well.
It's extremely disappointing that people have to be rude to others. Even if we shut off our computers and back away from the situation, the issue of cyber bullying still stands firm. I'm disappointed that other people have to say such rude things online. In my opinion, I have received many offensive messages through trolls online. That's one of the biggest problems with our society as this isn't being "realistic", but it's simply hurting someone else's feelings. I'm happy to see that lots of people feel the same way. It drives my inspiration to change the world. :)
SmileForMe Getting offended is part of life. If you can't handle it, too bad, nobody cares. Cyber bullying isn't a problem, but people overreacting to it is.
Another thing I would say is that people overreacting is a completely normal thing. We are all humans. We can't simply "make the pain go away" and such. It's natural that we'd over react to things and it's also natural that your emotions can go out of control. However, you also have a point that it's a problem as without the pain, you'll never get stronger. Just like how muscles build up, pain is a factor of growth. Once you overcome that phase, you'll become more stronger and revitalized. Nice thinking. :)
SmileForMe Thank you for actually being a reasonable person. Anyway, I do agree to parts of that. I've personally grown pretty thick skin, so pretty much nothing that anybody can say will bother me much. When I said people overreacting was a problem, I was talking about how people will overreact so bad that they'll go so far as to try and censor other people's opinions that they don't like.
It's an interesting technological concept however that could be applied to social media platforms by default regardless of your personal preferences. If Facebook or Instagram one day decide to just slam a pop-up in your face like that every time, there's not much you can do about that.
Besides, the app still looks like something that came outta 2010. There are also many that report UI problems on the app. Has trisha given up on it or what happened?
I experienced bullying during my adolescence. The scar is still there but the next time, if ever, I will tell someone I trust. Bullies have a sense of entitlement. They think they can say or do whatever they want and justify it by saying, “you’re too sensitive”. No! Bullies need to be held legally, socially, and morally responsible 💯
A plugin wouldn't do jack. All a bully has to do is remove the plugin. The only effective way to do this would be to have rethink implemented into the actual chat services. This has already be done in some places such as RiverChat
to the victims of cyberbulling ,take action ,speak up ,get in their face and ask these bullies WHY are they doing this and demand them to stop thier hurt,hate,......... etc
Fabulous initiative. However, we should also be teaching young people how to handle bullying with self-respect and dignity. Eleanor Roosevelt wisely said: No one can hurt me without my permission “.
The real problem is feeble-mindedness. Bullying is bad but it's not realistic to think it can be eliminated completely any time soon. People need to toughen up and learn how to deal with reality.
Great idea Trisha, hope ur application has one more feature, that it records the offensive posting and if repeated time and again then sends a message to the host sites, like TH-cam to block them. This would definitely put an end to this nuisance...
Vivek Kunder That's a reallly bad idea and taking our free speach away that's like saying i hate this * religion* and it found it offensive and blocked me from something
MultiDarkZen Hating a religion is stupid. Don't be ignorant. You can't 'hate' several hundred thousand people that you don't know just because you dislike a few of them who identify in the same way. If you did say something like that repetitively, then of course you should be blocked. There's a fine line between 'free speech' and 'offensive, hurtful, uneducated speech', buddy. (I hope you noticed that the word 'speech' doesn't have an 'a' in it by the way - everyday's a school day :)))) )
Thanks Nina. Its only for repeated offenders who doesn't care about other peoples feeling and say whatever In the name of Free Speech. Hope someone does something on it.
I could say whatever I want. Freedom of speech. If you don't like it turn off ur phone. Cyber bullying is the biggest bs there is to combat all you gotta do is turn ur phone off or block the person
I'm here wondering why people are disliking this video when I'm sure that they saw the title 🙂🙂🙂 if you don't like it then you can just exit the video I'm sure it's not that hard.
your ideas very useful in real life . its impressive talk to our personality. also help in breve in mind. i love your show. its very help in develop my attitude.
***** You can be as condescending all you want. But if you think special interest groups will think the Socratic Method on words is good enough, you better think again. You are pretty naive if you really believe that they would';t block words if they had the means to identify them en mass.
Wow! It almost seems like social media is the problem! It almost seems like people should take some sort of psychological test to make sure they are mentally capable of handling social media and the internet.
The research makes it clear: this ReThink idea is very helpful in a format relating to studying. However, I would like to inquire how it could be implemented into actual platforms. Would you require that a post take some time before it is visible? Like, having to wait 10 min for it to go through, in which the process can be undone?
Dont want to be cyber bullied? Here are a few simple tips: 1. Shut off the computer. 2. Dont be on social media in the first blace. 3. Block the person. 4. Grow up.
Yes, It's true. But that actually happens when you don't stop to think you might be actually hurting another person. You think you have freedom of speech? You people use all the time the "freedom of speech" card and I think you don't even know what the hell it means. Your freedom ends when the freedom of other people begin. Threre's absolutely no reason for you to think you are entitled to bully others. I'ts cowardly and disgusting because people do it all the time and then they wonder "woah, why did they commit suicide? what a shame!". Hypocrites... People like you never stop to think about the consequences of your actions. I highly recommend you listen to this video carefully and grow up.
Wow, you're the true MVP here, you just solved the problem... Do you really think that a person being cyberbullied is only hurt on the internet?? A lot of kids cyberbullied gets bullied at school too.
i was ravaged by bullying, and although it was not online, it still hurt me a lot, what a lot of u are saying, you don't know how it feels, or you would've not said those things.
I think the idea of the extension would be amazing. It could be installed by a teacher in high schools on their laptops. Or a parent could install it on their kids device. Nice (:
Love this work, and love this kid. I'd support it, but I'm not fully behind the idea, though. My biggest thing is that it filters written speech, and the very real truth is that most people are too afraid to say what they mean. The real question is can this tech really curb bullying by training people to think a second time? I definitely think it can, at least on a superficial level. Parents of bullies should raise their kids not to bully. Parents of the bullied should teach their kids resilience. But I do not want a world where the weak are just cast aside. They'd choose to be stronger if they could. Trust me.
Trisha, I love this idea. I work in a high school and the need to have students rethink could be life- changing. However, is there any way to have optional comments sent instead of only the OK or rethink option? I have found students often do not see or think of other options instead of posting their gut reaction. I don't know technology, but if optional sentences like " I need time to get back to you on this" or "I'm sorry, I don't feel the same" or "I'm not sure how to respond" or "that hurts my feelings" or "that doesn't sound right to me, can we talk?" Etc. could pop up along with an ok or rethink message, it might help them get the communication skills they might be struggling to use. If the user could easily click on a more positive or neutral sentence, it might change the discourse. Best of luck to you.
This Is REAL in today’s world. This young woman will do great things. Kids have IPads at the age of 3 now. To say “what is a X age person doing having a phone “ it is absurd. It could be for educational purpose / safety ( phone ) or for fun! We forget that in an age that the technology grows / the child does as well. What she is doing is creating a LAYER of thought that is not currently around in the technology world. It’s a start. And it’s a brilliant tactic. To at least attempt a 2nd thought that a lot of kids need when they are not face / face when behind technology. If anything it’s a start.
I loved how they started to laugh at the start, then everything got depressing.
that is the best part lol!

Excellent. Terrific. Very clever, bright and caring young lady!
This is amazing! The only problem is, it's a program/extension/app you would have to install. A regular teenager won't willingly install it to his or her device...
Pity True, It would be better if marketed to parents to install on home computers at the least.
+Jessica Gomez How many kids access social media on computers? Every kid i know uses a cell phone.
Its something that a phone company can put on as a starting app like google or safari and make it that it cant be deleted make it a requirement app

You are brilliant, compassionate and what you are doing will save lives! Thank you!
Great work :-)) You are very inspirational, keep on spreading positive message to people. Deep down we all care, just some need a bit of reminding :-)

Can you delete this comment cus it’s bad and you said there should be no bad comments
U gotta be mentally strong in order to deal with the dangers ahead in social Media otherwise don't go there at all.
i mean i go on the deep wep sometimes. eh it isnt that bad
The girl has a clever system.
Bruh this girl is a god at doing speeches🔥🔥🔥🔥
I don't think a bully would install your plugin.
I think the point is it would be preinstalled on all devices.
Maybe that's when a parent should step in and enforce it.
It's an interesting technological concept however that could be applied to social media platforms by default regardless of your personal preferences. If Facebook or Instagram one day decide to just slam a pop-up in your face like that every time, there's not much you can do about that.
I think it should be there by default
Besides, the app still looks like something that came outta 2010. There are also many that report UI problems on the app. Has trisha given up on it or what happened?
I experienced bullying during my adolescence. The scar is still there but the next time, if ever, I will tell someone I trust. Bullies have a sense of entitlement. They think they can say or do whatever they want and justify it by saying, “you’re too sensitive”. No! Bullies need to be held legally, socially, and morally responsible 💯
Amriacle Jahara your coming from your pain body be present
A plugin wouldn't do jack. All a bully has to do is remove the plugin. The only effective way to do this would be to have rethink implemented into the actual chat services. This has already be done in some places such as RiverChat
if a bully wants to bully someone so much that they remove a plugin to bully that person, they should just have their privleges revoked.
9 years later, I don't actually see this at any social media apps. What happened?
to the victims of cyberbulling ,take action ,speak up ,get in their face and ask these bullies WHY are they doing this and demand them to stop thier hurt,hate,......... etc
Great opening line..
7:40 instagram added this kind of thing that says offensive messages like this have been reported so people think twice
A exactly.
I’ve gotten comments like that just because I said the first season of a show was better then the second.
Tricia, thank you for your incredible and necessary work!
I could say whatever I want. Freedom of speech. If you don't like it turn off ur phone. Cyber bullying is the biggest bs there is to combat all you gotta do is turn ur phone off or block the person
D MULA correct
71% to 4.6% is impressive
I'm here wondering why people are disliking this video when I'm sure that they saw the title 🙂🙂🙂 if you don't like it then you can just exit the video I'm sure it's not that hard.
I love you Trisha!!!! She is like my new role model.
@Shrek. bro i don’t even remember commenting that or watching this video💀💀

A very worthy initiative...
your ideas very useful in real life . its impressive talk to our personality. also help in breve in mind. i love your show. its very help in develop my attitude.
Here to spread some love on this girl who've done a great job because there's a lot of negativity in here.
Trying to censor the internet is a VERY bad idea.
Especially on a planet where when war criminals are reported only the whistleblower gets punished.
Syncretic Views I'm not sure you know what censorship really means. Perhaps you should go look it up. It will be helpful information for you to have.
***** Flagging words is how you censor people.
Syncretic Views
Nope. Try again.
Only this time do what I suggested and learn what censorship is.
***** You can be as condescending all you want. But if you think special interest groups will think the Socratic Method on words is good enough, you better think again.
You are pretty naive if you really believe that they would';t block words if they had the means to identify them en mass.
That's a shame you didn't look up what censorship is. It speaks to the kind of person I want nothing to do with.
I'm done. Please don't write me back.
That was a wonderful speech
the real question is why does a 11 year old have a presence on social media
+Ya Bish I think it might be that we are in the 21st century and kids these days have access to so much more than what we did
Ya Bish thats not the real question.
@Toby Henderson brahhhhhhh If u have kids I feel bad for them
How does a 11 year old get on a water tower
How to stop cyber bullying:
1 block the person
2 get off the internet
3 don’t film yourself doing things you don’t want other people to see
4 become a Amish
YOU GO GIRL THIS IS AMAZING
I love this video

okeveryone needs to leave alone the way she says adolescence
Very Inspiring!
i have to watch this as a assignment for school so i can take notes on it i guess
very good speech
Wow! It almost seems like social media is the problem! It almost seems like people should take some sort of psychological test to make sure they are mentally capable of handling social media and the internet.
You are amazing, keep going! You have a very bright future.
Here are a few simple tips:
1. Shut off the computer.
2. Dont be on social media in the first blace.
3. Block the person.
4. Grow up.
+Uber-Charged Tuna What about STOP CYBER BULLING AND ACTUALLY GROW UP? That's an even greater idea.
LadyCanu It's never going to stop. When you give people absolute freedom of speech, people will say what they want to say, even if it's good or bad.
Uber-Charged Tuna you know. You are very true.
I believe that's why the block button was created, why didn't she block them? cyber bullying can never be stopped. RIP to them #myopinion
Then again, the bully could just make another account.
awesome... a small stuff can make change in huge thing, i heard that, she proved it...
I think the idea of the extension would be amazing. It could be installed by a teacher in high schools on their laptops. Or a parent could install it on their kids device. Nice (:
ok though I am very distracted by how she says "adolescent". It is not pronounced that way Trisha.
I KNOW ITS SO ANNOYING
!!!!!
hahaha 😂😊😊 keep getting offended
+Clorox bleach being offended and distracted are very different things, maybe you should rethink before you type :)
Trust me.
There’s no such thing as “cyber bullying.” Sticks and Stones.
How did no one correct her on adolescents?
she knows what love is
Stop the hate on her now
Why she is wrong
That beginning though

me showing a cyberbullied victim how to turn off their computer
This Is REAL in today’s world. This young woman will do great things. Kids have IPads at the age of 3 now. To say “what is a X age person doing having a phone “ it is absurd. It could be for educational purpose / safety ( phone ) or for fun! We forget that in an age that the technology grows / the child does as well. What she is doing is creating a LAYER of thought that is not currently around in the technology world. It’s a start. And it’s a brilliant tactic. To at least attempt a 2nd thought that a lot of kids need when they are not face / face when behind technology. If anything it’s a start.
