    I've had a Maverick Hybrid for 11 months now and I love it. In the past I've owned full-size and mid-size Chevy and Ford trucks (2 of each). It can't tow the way my Silverado that I traded for it could, but for me, that isn't a big deal, I don't really tow anything. It does have a 3/4 ton payload capacity which is crazy. But for me, the best part is the 41 mpg I get commuting everyday. Beats the heck out of the Silverado's 15 mpg. The Silverado had a 34 gallon tank and the Maverick has a 13.8 gallon tank. I can go further on a tank of gas with the Maverick than I could with the Silverado's huge tank.

      41mpg on a truck!!! Thats fucking insane

    • @coolbreeze2444
      @coolbreeze2444 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@donjohn281 That's the advantage of a hybrid. Commuting is where hybrids excel because the electric motor does most of the work. When I'm sitting at a stop light, the engine is off, so no burning gas while idling. As long as I'm going less than 45 mph, it's mostly electric, the gas engine just comes on to charge up the battery once in a while. Out on the highway, when the gas engine is actually working, I still get 33 mpg.

      Great detail Ken. Actual owners like us know more than the reviewers who get a loaner for a couple of days and pretend to be experts. And they make you stare at them for most of the video.
      I own one of each I show on my channel because I drive in Park City in the snow. Looks like I drive more hwy miles than you. My combined mpg, AWD = 26 (1 more rhan EPA) Hybrid = 36 (1 less than EPA). I never had a vehicle get close to EPA rating before.

    The hybrid is targeted to fleet sales (for the XL trim) and for dads who want some kind of truck but also need to commute. 40+ mpg in city traffic + runs to the big box store and to the ball fields. It's an alternative to a compact SUV or sedan. It's not meant to really compete with bigger pickup trucks.

    One thing to understand about the Maverick (along with many other hybrids) is that that CVT is not a pushbelt, but rather an eCVT, where the engine and the smaller of the 2 motor generators are connected at a planetary gearset, with the engine spinning the planet carrier and the motor generator spinning the sun gear. The continuous variability comes from the motor generator varying it's speed.

      My job is likely going to be looking soon to get out of the 2017 Jeep Renegades we're in now and switch back to Ford (Chrysler-Fiat reliability issues) and I'm hoping we aim for the Mavericks. We only need 2 to complete the fleet, however we will need the AWD as we need to jump curbs and drive off-road pretty frequently. But most of our driving is on-road so fuel mileage is key. I can't see any other vehicle in Ford's lineup satisfying the people in charge at my job. We had a 2013 Escape before and they didn't like that, Bronco and Bronco Sport is too expensive comparatively so I'm sure we'll end up with Mavericks eventually.

    I got lucky and found an XL on a local lot while looking for a Ranger. Even with the additional $5K dealer charge, it was a good deal. It is a hybrid with the 2.5 liter engine. I am retired and this little truck met my needs. The power and speed surprised me. The mileage is terrific, and just in time. The price of gas is out of control, but I’ve only had to fill my tank one time since I bought the truck 5 weeks ago. I live in Orange County, CA, and still haven’t seen another one on the street. I’ve had a few cool cars in my life, but I’ve never had more random strangers stop and ask me about this cool little truck. It is certainly hard to find, and I’ve noticed a few for sale on the secondary used market with $10,000 and up markups. It’s not often an economy car is worth more after you drive it off the dealer lot.

      Destination is something everyone pays for any new vehicle though. Destination for a RAM 1500 is $1795. $1695 for Silverado. A CRV you’ll still pay $1300.
      No you can not get a Maverick for under 20k in real life and that’s a bit of deceptive marketing. But it is still dang cheap compared to literally anything else on the market. A base Maverick is cheaper than a base Corolla. And much cheaper than a Corolla hybrid.

      Nah, keep these giant things far away from our streets. Unless you live in the remote wilderness there's no need for these behemoths. It'll just be used by people picking up their kids from school, blocking the traffic with their comically oversized "trucks".

    Wish I could get one! But in Hawaii it's a 10k dealer markup for the BASE hybrid XL. Sadly just can't stomach fronting 30k for the base model. Would love the hybrid though...

    It would have been nice, had you guys given us the details of the specific options on this truck. Seems that truck may have the Luxury Package ? I could also use more detail about the Co-Pilot 360, as I might want to take it off my order. That item is somewhat backed up due to shortage of chips. And yes, as of a while ago, no more Hybrid orders, then as of 2-27 no Maverick orders at all until possibly August..for the 2023 model year. The difference between EcoBoost AWD and Hybrid FWD is about 22mpg vs 33-37 mpg. A huge difference.

    I wish you tried out the Maverick Hybrid in Lariat trim with the luxury package. I believe that config includes satellite radio and push button start. I wonder if the Lariat trim changes the ride characteristics.

      That look usually means he thinks it's slow and/or sounds terrible under hard throttle.
